    • One of the things I have noticed about Ishaq, and most of the hadieth's is that they are used for convenience.
All of the books have multiple contradictions, not only when you compare booke, but within the same books themselves.
When you go through Ishaq you will notice verses that are word for word, the exact same as the Qur'an.
You will also se some that are writtin nowhere else.
(While I never draw absolute conclusions, If you do that, you have just closed the door on learning anything,) More..

    • LOL
The pickels and ice cream, is an old part of a clip from a 50s comedy tv show.
It turned into a sarcastic joke in America, for the eating moods of pregnant women.
If that is what she wants, try to talk her out of it.

    • Congratulations Dom.
      I remember my first child.
The emotions involved are endless, also depending on the mental state of both of you, things can be as different as night and day.
Your wife will go through a lot of mental and psysical changes,
Sometimes it will leave you in a confused state, of what did I do wrong, why is she acting like this.
It's not your fault, or her's.
She will get moody at times, and may cry a lot.

      • Thanks Jim,

I thought pickles and preserved foods were bad for pregnant women? Or is that small goods and smoked meats? We went to Borders Bookshop this afternoon and we've bought up on books about parenting, pregnancy, and fatherhood. Obviously, I want to be a really good Dad; but your right...there's NO instruction manual.

As far as we can figure, conception might have been 3 weeks ago. But we're still trying to figure out how it happened. So far our reproductive specialist has said that our More..

There is nothing in a name.
A rose by any other name smells just as sweet.
Unfortunatly, this does not apply to children.
I know people personally who have named their children after events or people from their favorite TV shows.
        Farrah ,from Farrah Faucet
Mandy, from the Barry manilow song.
Years down the road, all have regretted it.
The name a child grows up with, and has when in school or play can be a huge influnce on their lives.

I think I have brought up befor about the people who take one verse, or section from the bible and create a religion out of it.
Nobody strapped a bomb to themselves.
This is true all over the states.
We have in the eastern hills a group that found a couple verses reffering to the handeling of snakes, and created an entire cult surrounding it.

    • We do know that the Prophet was illiterate, but we also do know that he was commanded to read by Allah.
One of the interesting aspects of Ishaq, is that in the beginning there is great emphasis on the power of the pen.
Entire sections are writtin in a manor of a child playing with a new toy.
In this case the writtin language, (Clasical Arabic)
There are many refferences all along that reffer to writing.

    • Just a quick responce on this point.
This particular verse is probably the most misquoted verse in all of Islam.
First it was plagerized from the Adam and Eve story from Jewish lore.
The most important part is that it excludes
      "Mischief Makers"
Mischief makers are decribed as non-believers.
They are condemmed throughout the Islamic writings.
Basicly, anyone, mainly clerics, and other higher ups, can declare anyone as a mischief maker, and suddenly the verse has no meaning.

100 to 200 is the second, and so on.

One of the issues is the dating of "Facts" within the
      Islamic history.
We have many, many "Claims" of certian events, and dates in which they happened.
Unfortunatly, nothing exists from the periods in which they clain these events to have happened.

      • Hi Jim,

Yes, I really must say that I enjoy our discussions too. Its not really an issue of "winning" a debate or even trying to prove you wrong...its the process and the dialogue I'm enjoying. I completely understand that you've got work and family commitments. I'm in the same boat. There is an abridiged version, put out by faithfreedom.org, however I really do not think this is the one you are looking for.
This one will be biased, but what little I did read of it was fairly similar.
It omits a lot of "useless material" and goes straight to the point, but It is probably the "useless material", that is what we want to scrutinize.
I don't have any trouble looking up certian quotes however.

    • Hey Dom
You mentioned you were going to read Bukhari.
I wanted to throw something else in the mix.
I strongly suggest that you read Ishaq first.
      The Sirat Rasul Allah.
      Hear me out.
I know a lot of it has been denied,
I am not saying one is better than the other.
The sole reason I want you to read Ishaq first, is because it was writtin 100 years earlier.
One of the things you will get, from a historical viewpoint, is the progression of the language, and writing skills.

    • One of the things that has always upset me about a lot of religions is the additude.
They worship the wrong God, Kill them.
Christians were famous for this all the way untill about 400 years ago, and some groups even later than that.
We have fanatics here in the states that will take a verse out of the bible, usually old testament , and develope their own philosophy around it.

      • At one point in time I would have completely agreed with you. At one point in my life I managed to pretty much talk myself out of any and all organized religion because I reasoned, similarly to yourself, that no real god would want people to kill other people (because killing people is a sure sign of evil), and why exactly would any god even want people to be praying in the same ritualized boring manner all the time...does a god really need that?

      • The clot is speculated to be a description of early embryonic development, not original raw material used for the creation of the human species. For that, for humans to survive and thrive on a solid planet, God crafted humans from the same materials as the planet itself - soil or clay.

It reminds me of something I heard when I was a child visiting a planetarium, something about here we're built from the same stuff as stars. Was pretty awe inspiring :-)

Incidentally, this thing about the moon on the Muslim Jurists of America website...

In Islam we use a lunar calendar similar to the Chinese. I can understand why mood sightings to mark the end of Ramadan might be been important in the past; but I've got no idea why some people are still hung-up on looking for the mood these days. Maybe they're hoping Ramadan will finish a day early or something.

    • There is another interesting concept here.
We do know that Muhammed had axcess to parchment,
      From the Jews.
We also know that he was obsessed with knowledge of the Jewish and christian, writings.
He had a 12 year old Jewish scribe, who would read to him from the Jewish and Christian text.
We know he took part in at least 37, and as many as 70 raids into Jewish settlements.
The booty here would include a lot of writing materials, something that Muhammed himself would have wanted.

      • Possibly, although I am more inclined to think (an educated guess) that this period of Sunni vs. Shia conflict might have seen the introduction (and possible fabrication) of new documentation.

The destruction of documentation was likely earlier (according to a number of Sunni scholars) during the reign of Uthman ibn Affan.

      • OK, so you say that you are a Muslim. Then maybe its time you learn about Islam. Simply having "Muslim" printed on your birth certificate or identity card is not sufficient. Sometimes I feel a kind of sadness for people who are simply born into Islam. You never get the opportunity to experience the real joy of embracing Islam freely, by choice. And in many cases, you've got nothing to go on other than the Taqlid recommendations of a scholar or the Sheik from your local masjid. And ther More..
