@pigshead Thats right mate. I usually order my blades from brisa. Worked for a while for a timber merchant in Hamburg and got lots of nice woods at home. One of my favorites next to curly birch is Amboina burl. A bitch to work with since its hard like a stone but looks so nice! http://imageshack.us/f/709/vikstrm.jpg/

@MrSlave , The last knife i made was, A lauri PT 63, nickel bolster,black fiber spacer, 1cm of reindeer horn , fiber spacer,and 7cm of medium grade Masur for the rest of the handle. Never tried Ambonia burl, It looks great , but hard to shape like you say. As for sharpening i use diamond whetstones x3 and a Flexcut powerstrop for edge finishing. www.axminster.co.uk/flexcut-shopflexcut/
