Well there was a lot of back and forth leading up to about 47 after Britain withdrew and handed the problem to the UN. The UN partitioned it into two states. That is when the Arabs openly declared war. The majority of ethnic cleansing took place after said event.

I read the page. You give me too little credit my friend. As I pointed out there was violence being committed against Jews too during this time period. I can list many massacres and pogroms/riots against jews. The motive was clearly ethnic cleansing, but the Jews had no where else to go really. No other country was going to accept all of those Jewish refugees. Violence begets violence as I said before. The Jews in turn resorted to ethnic cleansing.
