We did have a few shit bags that would take fights to far, but that was the exception, not the rule. Back in the 80's, were I was living there was sort of a gentleman's agreement. This was usually between two guys of the same race, white actually. If a white guy got into a fight with a black guy, it normally ended up being about 5 against 1, in favor of the blacks.
Sounds like you had it pretty rough in your town. I got most of my beatings in the house, the youngest of 7 did not make life easy More..
