New World Record in Tightrope Walking

Adil Hoshur (alternatively Adili Wuxor), dubbed 'China's Tightrope Prince', reportedly secured a place in the world records after he and two disciples simultaneously crossed a 1,400m (4,600ft) span of wire next to the Aizhai Bridge over the Dehang canyon in China's Hunan province.

The trio performed the feat using only balance bars and without safety nets - a daunting prospect considering they were some 350m (1,150ft) above the ground. As if that wasn't death-defying enough, they crossed at the same time in opposite directions which, needless to say, required some extra tricky maneuvering.

Mummies Given New Clothes in Ceremony

South Sulawesi province, Indonesia - an exhumed pair of mummies are given a new set of clothes.

Referred to as Ma'nene, the ceremony is meant to pay respects to dead ancestors and honor the bonds that exist between family members, both living and dead. Indeed, many locals believe spirits of deceased ancestors are still with them. Occurring every three years, mummies are cleaned and given new clothes before being laid back in their graves.

Here, the first mummy (Piter Sampe Sambara) is around 80 years old while second (Martha Bu'ta') is some 40 years old though, apparently, some such mummies are well over 100 years.

Here we have typical example of what happens in such an event.
City of Lanzhou, Gansu province - a truck fully loaded with some 300,000 yuan (47,000 US$) worth of grapes rolled sideways during a tight corner, spilling its contents into the roadway. Neighborhood locals and passersby soon appeared to plunder the scene, making short work of the 'bounty' and negating any prospect of a salvage operation.

Men Fall Through Glass Sidewalk

A portion of sidewalk constructed from tempered glass in China's Sichuan province broke while two men were walking over it, sending them plunging five metres down into a parking garage below.
According to a reporter from the scene, the portion of sidewalk was constructed from 40 layers of tempered glass, but apparently a fair number had already developed cracks.

On the topic of glass pathways, one must admit such reports make Tianmen's glass mountain path , some 1430m (4700ft) high, all the more daunting.

Here we have an example of 'crimson cooking' with a rat.
Term can also be translated as 'red cooking' - typically refers to cooking with soy sauce in Chinese language.
Cooking with soy sauce is fine by me but, with a rat - bones, skin and tail included?
Each to their own...

Statue was recently established in a famous sightseeing spot in China's Henan province. That such a statue is too erotic and obscene to exist in public space was discussed in local news. It's reported authorities have appeared to observe it for themselves.

As for the individual responsible for its production, they claim,
"...it's a piglet receiving a back massage from its mother."
However, the statue's inspirational source has been discovered - part of a series of erotic pig figurines produced some ten years ago.

...and, yeah... little more can be said

Fatal Accident: Moped Rider Buried Alive in Asphalt

The accident happened when the driver of the electric moped pulled out in front of the truck driver prompting him to suddenly brake and swerve. The fully loaded truck rolled, spilling ten tonnes of hot asphalt onto the moped driver.

The accident occurred in Yuhuan, Zhejiang province on the 14th around noon. The truck's driver, Yang Fu, was on his way from the waterfront to a nearby construction site. According to him, while crossing an intersection the moped came suddenly from his right. In an attempt to avoid a collision he blasted the horn, braked heavily and veered left, which caused the truck to overturn and dump its load onto the moped driver.

Firefighters wearing heat resistant boots used shovels and hoes to retrieve the body of the 18 year old moped driver. Found nearly an hour after the ordeal, the body was burnt near beyond recognition; the asphalt had apparently been around 100^0C. According to a witness on scene, as the truck dumped the asphalt a large plume of black smoke was let forth. The victim appeared to scream sharply from within the asphalt, soon after subsiding into silence. A spokesman for emergency crews reports he would have died within a minute.

The man, who resides in China's Jilin province, lost both of his hands when a home-made bomb used in order to catch fish exploded prematurely. Lacking the funds to afford prosthetic hands, he spent eight years (presumably with a helper) constructing his won.

One cannot help but be impressed by his ingenuity - via elbow movement he's able to move the hands' fingers and thumbs enough to grasp various tools and function on his own. Considering they look rather like something from Renaissance Europe, it's understandable why he's known locally as 'China's Steel Alchemist'.

He admits some short-comings with his work, such as the inability to lift heavy objects and their tendency to become cold during winter months.

Heavy flooding in the Philippines capitol, Manila, estimated to have effected the lives of some two million people, has now stopped and the waters are receding. However, in what one would think is an unreal situation droves of people appear to be out having fun. Some, perhaps a little too much. In times when one would think the majority would be troubled, such people likely represent those particularly resilient and carefree.

Flooding was heaviest from the 6th to the 8th, during which record setting downpours devastated Manila suburbs. Video below, shot from rubber dinghy on the 8th of Aug in the Santa Mesa V-Mapa district, showcases some of the flooding.

Residents in a suburb of Xi'an, China, discovered what appeared to be a strange species of mushroom while drilling a well. When none in the village, including the 80 year old village elder, were able to identify it and searches online suggested a mysterious species granting perpetual youth, a news team was called forth.

Xi'an Television later apologized via their formal account on Chinese Twitter, citing their reporter's "youth and ignorance in the way of the world".
