Selective Unemployment: US slows immigration to save American jobs

The United States remains highly selective over just who it allows in from abroad to set up a business. The authorities fear the outsiders may take jobs from ordinary Americans - but they're the ones who could in fact be providing them.

Handcuffed Arkansas man shot to death in the back of police car

A 21-year old man was fatally shot in the head while handcuffed in the back of a police car in Arkansas. The police claim it was a suicide but victim's family has a hard time believing it.

Chavis Carter was arrested by two officers for carrying marijuana, after being detained at a traffic stop last Saturday. The officers say they searched him twice before placing him in the back of a police car wearing "double locked" handcuffs.

Carter allegedly called his girlfriend while at the traffic stop, telling her he'd call later from jail.

But shortly thereafter, the young man was found slumped over in the back of the police car with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The officers claim they were nowhere near the car when the gun was fired.

Police at the scene maintain that Carter had concealed a gun and shot himself. But Carter's mother believes police killed her son and are now trying to cover it up. She says her son suffered a wound to his right temple, but he was left-handed. The fact that her son was wearing double locked handcuffs makes a suicide even more unbelievable, she said.

Police Chief Michale Yates said that the death is "definitely bizarre and defies logic at first glance."

Yates told HLN TV that there is no indication of any projectiles coming from outside the vehicle, which suggests that whatever happened to Chavis happened from inside the car.

Several "Justice for Chavis Carter" Facebook pages have been set up. Many of the Facebook page commenters call for justice in what they consider a brutal murder by police officers.

"Such a tragedy," Shawn Lewis wrote on one of the pages, which has more than 1,300 "likes" "But not the first time a young man of color has been killed in cold blood by the police force with no provocation. What can we do to stop the war on our children?"

Amid a whirlwind of conflicting ideas about how the young man was shot in the head while handcuffed, the FBI has begun an investigation into the case.

"You can ask any officer anything you want, but it doesn't mean they are going to tell you anything," Charles Coleman, a member of the Jonesboro City Council, told the Huffington Post. "Until there's an investigation, you're like any other person hearing pieces of the news. I'd rather have it documented in black and white."

So far, anger has been brewing in those familiar with the case. Sherman Pye, who runs a bail office in Jonesboro, said people are heated about the lack of transparency about what happened.

"Everybody is just on pins and needles waiting to see the outcome," Pye said. "We just want to make sure he's dealt a fair deal. We're not here to convict anyone, we just want clarification."

American CIA plane said to be moving prisoners crashed in Mexico with 400 tons of cocaine

CIA "Manages" Drug Trade, Mexican Official Says http://ow.ly/czWrh

The Central Intelligence Agency's involvement in drug trafficking is back in the media spotlight after a spokesman for the violence-plagued Mexican state of Chihuahua became the latest high-profile individual to accuse the CIA, which has been linked to narcotics trafficking for decades, of ongoing efforts to "manage the drug trade." The infamous American spy agency refused to comment.

In a recent interview, Chihuahua state spokesman Guillermo Terrazas Villanueva told Al Jazeera that the CIA and other international "security" outfits "don't fight drug traffickers." Instead, Villanueva argued, they try to control and manage the illegal drug market for their own benefit.

"It's like pest control companies, they only control," Villanueva told the Qatar-based media outlet last month at his office in Juarez. "If you finish off the pests, you are out of a job. If they finish the drug business, they finish their jobs."

Another Mexican official, apparently a mid-level officer with Mexico's equivalent of the U.S. Department of "Homeland Security," echoed those remarks, saying he knew that the allegations against the CIA were correct based on talks with American agents in Mexico. "It's true, they want to control it," the official told Al Jazeera on condition of anonymity.

Credibility issues with employees of the notoriously corrupt Mexican government aside, the latest accusations were hardly earth shattering - the American espionage agency has been implicated in drug trafficking from Afghanistan to Vietnam to Latin America and everywhere in between. Similar allegations of drug running have been made against the CIA for decades by former agents, American officials, lawmakers, investigators, and even drug traffickers themselves.

Some of the most prominent officials to level charges of CIA drug trafficking include the former head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Robert Bonner. During an interview with CBS, Bonner accused the American "intelligence" outfit of unlawfully importing a ton of cocaine into the U.S. in collaboration with the Venezuelan government.

US security agencies have acquired even more powers under president Obama - that's despite his pre-election pledges to make the government more open to ordinary citizens. Instead, his administration is spending record amounts to keep its secrets - and is cracking down on whistleblowers.

New wave of Anaheim protests: 9 arrested as police disperse crowds (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

At least nine people have been arrested by Orange County Police as they pushed protesters back during a street rally in outrage over the recent officer-involved shootings that left two locals dead.

More than 200 people have gathered outside Anaheim police headquarters chanting slogans condemning the police and taking over a parking lot, where they drew outlines of bodies.

"The whole system is guilty" and "Am I next?" the angry crowds were chanting in rage, says the LA Times.

The assembly then began marching toward Disneyland, but 50 police officers in riot gear and about two dozen officers on horseback prevented their movement toward the theme park.

The crowd was chanting, "Why can't we go to Disneyland? You're protecting the city, not your people," sites the Orange County Register.

One eyewitness tweeted, "The pics from Anaheim are disgusting, how much firepower does one need against unarmed civilians?"

But many of the demonstrators came from outside Anaheim and were part of the Occupy movement, reports local media.

Some of those arrested have already been released.

For those in custody, "APD are trying to trump up charges because man arrested tweeted while in cuffs " tweets Orange County reporter, Amber Stephens.

Organizers of the rally and family members of those killed by the officers had earlier voiced their request for a peaceful demonstration in an effort to avoid a repeat of Tuesday's events.

On July 24, police used rubber bullets to disperse a 1,000-strong crowd who threw rocks and bricks at the police. By the end of the night at least seven people were injured, 24 arrests made and 20 buildings damaged.

This month, police fatally shot two men in Anaheim: Manuel Diaz on July 21 and Joel Acevedo on July 22. Authorities said that Diaz, 25, who was unarmed, was resisting arrest and that Acevedo, 21, had fired a weapon at officers during a chase.

Authorities are investigating the fatalities to determine if civil rights infringement investigations are warranted.
