One man was shot to death by Miami police, and another man is fighting for his life after he was attacked, and his face allegedly half eaten, by a naked man on the MacArthur Causeway off ramp Saturday, police said. The horror began about 2 p.m. when a series of gunshots were heard on the ramp, which is along NE 13th Street, just south of The Miami Herald building. According to police sources, a road ranger saw a naked man chewing on another man's face and shouted on his loud speaker for him to back away.Meanwhile, a woman also saw the incident and flagged down a police officer who was in the area. The officer, who has not been identified, approached and, seeing what was happening, also ordered the naked man to back away. When he continued the assault, the officer shot him, police sources said. The attacker failed to stop after being shot, forcing the officer to continue firing. Witnesses said they heard at least a half dozen shots. Miami police were on the scene, which was just south of The Miami Herald building on Biscayne Boulevard. The naked man who was killed lay face down on the pedestrian walkway just below the newspaper's two-story parking garage. Police have requested The Herald's video surveillance tapes. The other man was transported to the hospital with critical injuries, according to police. Their identities were not released. The incident, which came as crowds descended upon South Beach for the annual Urban Beach Week hip-hop festival, snarled traffic on the causeway for several hours. In a text message, Javier Ortiz, spokesman for Miami police's Fraternal Order of Police, said the officer who fired the fatal shots was "a hero." "Based on the information provided, our Miami police officer is a hero and saved a life,'' he said. Sergeant Altarr Williams, supervisor of Miami police's Homicide Unit, said a man doesn't have to be armed to be dangerous. "There are other ways to injure people,'' Williams said. "Some people know martial arts, others are very strong and can kill you with their hands.'' Investigators believe the victim may have been homeless and laying down when the crazed man pounced. Police theorize the attacker might have been suffering from "cocaine psychosis," a drug-induced craze that bakes the body internally and often leads the affected to strip naked to try and cool off. The victims have been identified as Ebehard Schaaf, 61, a German medical doctor; Sriya Shah, 33, a Nepali-born Canadian woman; Song Wondin, a 44-year-old man from South Korea; and Wen Ryi Ha, 55, of China, according to officials with the tourism and civil aviation ministry and at the base of the mountain. "Climbers climbing down the mountain have said that they have seen the body of the Korean," said Tilakram Pandey, of the tourism and civil aviation ministry, by phone from the base of the mountain. The Korean had earlier been reported missing. There were reports of a Nepali missing as well, but those reports could not be verified, Pandey said. David Breashears, a climber and filmmaker who has reached Everest's peak five times, told CNN that anyone still unaccounted for after nightfall has poor prospects for survival. "You will surely perish at night at those elevations and those temperatures without the safety of a tent and the protection of a warm sleeping bag," Breashears told CNN. The cause of the German's death has been diagnosed as high-altitude cerebral edema, according to Ang Tshering Sherpa of Asian Trekking, which organized his expedition. Reports says the six fetuses had been covered in gold leaf after being roasted as part of a black magic ritual. It is not clear where the bodies came from, but Chow Hok Kuen is believed to have been attempting to smuggle them into Taiwan. The bodies were reportedly found in a different hotel from the one Chow Hok Kuen was staying at, but were in his luggage. Police made the arrest after responding to information they'd received saying that infant corpses were being offered to wealthy clients via a black magic services website. "The bodies are of children between the ages of two and seven months. The bodies were found in the early hours of Sunday, sparking a large deployment of local, state and military officials to the scene, the Excelsior newspaper reported on its website. "What's complicating the identification of all the people was that they were all headless," said Jorge Domene, the Nuevo Leon state government's spokesman for public security, who added that many hands and feet were were also missing. The bodies were being taken to a Monterrey auditorium for DNA tests. They were found on an isolated stretch of the road, scattered in a pool of blood at the entrance to the town of San Juan, on a highway leading from Monterrey to the border city of Reynosa. A white stone arch welcoming visitors was spray-painted with black letters: "100% Zeta." The victims could have been killed as long as two days ago at another location, then transported to San Juan, said state attorney general Adrian de la Garza. 'Cartel wars' Suspected drug gang violence has flared up across the country this month, with scores of deaths attributed to massacres between the two largest drug cartels and clashes with security forces. Eighteen people were found decapitated and dismembered near Mexico's second-largest city, Guadalajara, on Wednesday. Just a few days earlier, there were 23 killings in the city of Nuevo Laredo, in Tamaulipas state adjacent to Nuevo Leon on the US border, where nine people were found hanging from a bridge and 14 others that had been decapitated. Authorities have blamed much of the deadly violence on battles between the Zetas, a gang set up by ex-commandos, and groups allied to the Sinaloa Federation of Mexico's most wanted drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman. "This is the most definitive of all the cartel wars,'' said Raul Benitez Manaut, a security expert at Mexico's National Autonomous University.
