York Regional Police said the fifth suspect was arrested Wednesday evening. More details about the arrest will be released Thursday. Earlier Wednesday four suspects were arrested during a high-risk takedown outside a Toronto shopping centre Wednesday. One of the suspects fled the scene on foot, briefly evading arrest. The ordeal began when officers from both the York Regional and Toronto police surrounded a car at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and Jane Street in North York shortly before noon Wednesday. Earlier in the morning, officers responded to a call about a home invasion in Vaughan. The CTV News helicopter captured the scene from the air, in exclusive video that shows police surrounding a four-door sedan near the intersection. Blocking the car's path, both uniformed and plainclothes police were seen jumping from their vehicles with guns drawn. Officers handcuffed one person while two others ran away. Police captured one of the runners, but the other managed to make it into the nearby Sheridan Mall. With three suspects in custody, police spent Wednesday afternoon searching for the fourth fleeing suspect -- described as an approximately six-foot tall black male wearing black clothing and a black toque -- before a male was apprehended a few hours later. The fourth suspect was arrested near a low-rise apartment on Dallner Road around 4 p.m. The male was arrested after a resident of the apartment building heard noises coming from the garbage room. Police also "safely located" another man who they believe had been taken captive during a home invasion on Solway Avenue, near Keele Street and Major Mackenzie Drive in Vaughan approximately 30 minutes before the police takedown.
