Something that i have thought of from the very beginning when i wondered what could possibly make David Petraeus cover for what were obvious lies coming from the Obama administration over the Benghazi embassy attack. The Obama administration lied from the start about the cause of Benghazi and thus changed the talking points that would be released. Petraeus also knew it was false from the start as e-mails show. So what happened in between that time that made Petraeus suddenly reverse course and knowingly espouse untrue facts regarding the embassy attack and the dangerous environment that precluded it?, and only a few short days later, lie to congress,the American people,and become complicit in a scandal that would possibly discredit a long and storied career? The answer is because of possible "pressure" from members of the Obama administration over another scandal that had more immediate concern. That of his affair with Paula Broadwell. An affair which, from all news accounts i read when the scandal broke, was already well known to the Obama camp when they hired Petraeus. Broadwell's affair with Petraeus was likely known to Holly Petraeus, according to family friends. The FBI reportedly knew about it months beforehand and White House Counterterrorism adviser John Brennan reportedly was aware that there was a relationship as early as the summer of 2011. So why would the Obama administration hire Petraeus as head of the CIA when they knew, as news accounts stated, that his affair with Broadwell in Afghanistan was an open secret?. An issue as salacious as that would open up Petraeus to blackmail from foreign govt's and their intel agencies, it was a potential hole in national security, one that if publicly revealed would have, and did destroy the career of Petraeus. What would Petraeus have done to keep it a secret?, and why would the Obama administration allow such a scenario to even be considered. Keep in mind that when the affair was revealed Obama and James Clapper, head of national intel both denied having any knowledge of the affair and claim they were surprised at the resignation : the Obama Administration has offered little explanation as to why the Justice Department kept the the President in the dark about the Petraeus affair until two days after the election. Prosecutors and FBI agents knew at least as early as last July that the affair was occurring; high-level Justice officials, including Attorney General Eric Holder , knew in "late summer." According to White House Press Secretary Jay Carney, the President "was obviously surprised" when he learned of the affair on Nov. 8. so for a review: Obama's top aide and now head of the CIA John Brennan knew about the affair in 2011 before Petraeus was hired. Obama's close friend and head of the Justice dept Eric Holder Knew months before sept 11. Yet we are somehow expected to believe that the president had no idea. Is it possible that the Obama administration hired Petraeus with the knowledge of the affair in order to use it as a sword of Damocles?, to hang it over his head in case of a policy dispute? Petraeus himself knew that the FBI was aware of the affair months before hand, and hoped he could keep it a secret and keep his post But some of his closest advisers who served with him during his last command in Iraq said Monday that Petraeus planned to stay in the job even after he acknowledged the affair to the FBI, hoping the episode would never become public. He resigned last week after being told to do so by Director of National Intelligence James R. Clapper Jr. on the day President Obama was reelected. "Obviously, he knew about the relationship for months, he knew about the affair, he was in it, so yes, he was not going to resign," said Peter Mansoor, a retired Army colonel and Petraeus's executive officer during the Iraq "surge," who spoke Monday with the former general for about half an hour. "But once he knew it was going to go public, he thought that resigning was the right thing to do. There is no way it would have remained private."
