Being shot is a 'chance you take' - UK Judge!

In a rare moment of clarity, a UK judge has almost condoned the actions of home owners who shot and injured two men attempting to burgle their house.

A judge has told two burglars permanently injured when they were shot by a homeowner: "That is the chance you take."

Judge Michael Pert QC jailed Joshua O'Gorman and Daniel Mansell for
four years each after rejecting a plea that he take the shooting into
account.
O'Gorman and Mansell, who have a string of convictions between them,
were blasted with a legally-owned shotgun by Andy Ferrie as they
attempted to ransack his isolated farm cottage in the early hours of
September 2.
O'Gorman, who was shot in the face, and Mansell, who was hit in his
right hand, had pleaded guilty to the break-in in Welby, near Melton
Mowbray, at an earlier hearing.

Sentencing them at Leicester Crown Court, the judge said: "I make it
plain that, in my judgment, being shot is not mitigation. If you burgle
a house in the country where the householder owns a legally held
shotgun, that is the chance you take. You cannot come to court and ask
for a lighter sentence because of it."
He was responding to a mitigation plea from Andrew Frymann,
representing O'Gorman, who said being shot was for his client akin to a
"near-death experience" for which he was not prepared. His injuries left
him with blurred vision, severe pain and problems with his balance.
Replying to Mr Frymann's suggestion that O'Gorman was traumatised,
Judge Pert said the arrest of Mr and Mrs Ferrie on suspicion of grievous
bodily harm could be considered just as disturbing. He said: "Some
might argue that being arrested and locked up for 40 hours is a trauma."
Mr Ferrie, 35, and his wife Tracey, 43, were held in custody for
nearly two days after Mr Ferrie called police to tell them he fired his
shotgun at the intruders. Their arrests prompted widespread criticism.
The couple were later bailed and told they would not face criminal
charges.
Mansell, 33, and O'Gorman, 27, both from Leicester but with no fixed
addresses, appeared in the court dock each wearing a grey sweatshirt
and showing physical evidence of the confrontation. A scar was clearly
visible on the right side of O'Gorman's face and Mansell had his arm in a
sling.
Commenting after sentencing, a spokesman for Leicestershire Police
said: "The decision made by the Crown Prosecution Service, after
reviewing all the evidence, was to take no further action against the
homeowners involved. We are unable to comment any further as we have an
ongoing investigation with three men currently on police bail."

http://www.metro.co.uk/news/912087-us-must-ban-insults-towards-islam-says-egypt-pm-hisham-qandil

The US has been urged to do more to stop people making
insulting jibes towards Islam, with Egyptian prime minister Hisham
Qandil describing the act as 'unacceptable'.

I am in a democratic country where free speech hasn't been taken from me just yet (though I am sure they are working on that) and I can make jibes about whatever I like.

It's alright for you fuckers to kill innocent Christians, burn foreign flags and generally deride the Western way of life in your own country, but there is no way I am going to stand by and let you dictate my way of life in my country via my own government or any other proxy.

So fuck you, allah, and the camel you rode in on.

Stuart Slann Tricked by Facebook "affair"

Man U fan tricked by 2 Liverpool fans into Facebook 'affair'

18 February 2009. It was the classic Manchester United-Liverpool football rivalry, but this was a prank that went too far.

A Red Devils fan claimed he got duped into driving over 400 miles to begin an affair with a girl he had met on Facebook, only to discover it had been a hoax set up by two rival Reds supporters.

Not only was he made to wait for over three hours when he arrived, his wife discovered his attempted adultery and has left him, reported The Telegraph.

Mr Stuart Slann, 39, had first met the two Liverpool fans while on a holiday in Cancun, Mexico, last November.

The three soon started arguing over football and a series of heated exchanges took place over the three weeks they were there.

Mr Stuart claimed that the Liverpool fans even playfully threw him into the hotel pool, where he accidentally broke his ankle.

Soon after the holiday, he began flirting online and swapping messages almost every night with a woman called Emma from Scotland.

Last month, she finally agreed to meet him in Aberdeen.

As he was driving nine hours from his home in Sheffield to a remote farm in Scotland, he received an SMS from Emma, saying she would be late getting off work.

However, after waiting three hours in his car for her to show up, the two pranksters called him to confess.

They recorded the conversation and put it onto Facebook and video-sharing website YouTube, where it has attracted hundreds of hits.

'Cruel thing to do'

And that was how Mr Slann's wife, Louise, 32, discovered the 'affair'.

Mr Slann said: 'It was a cruel thing to do. I've been taken for a ride. They wound me up good and proper.'

'I'd been chatting with this girl on Facebook for about a month or so. I really thought she was genuine, and I had no reason to doubt it.

'Then when I got the call to say it was all a hoax, I just felt awful.

'If they had asked to drive to Manchester, Leeds or even Liverpool, it wouldn't have been so bad and maybe I'd have seen the funny side.

'But to drag me all the way to Aberdeen was just cruel.

'When I met the lads on holiday, I thought they were all right and we had a bit of banter over football and they threw me in the pool.'
