For Babylon 5 fans: 15 minute musical montage

SPOILER ALERT and warning: This video has many spoilers in it if you haven't seen the whole series yet. This is NOT a space battle montage for people with ADD. It's a fan made video for other fans of the show. If you you're not a fan of Babylon 5 or have no intention of ever watching the series then I wouldn't recommend watching this video.

I finished watching this series last week and began work on this video, adding a little to it here and there over the week. What I tried to do is select scenes from various seasons that shows some of the overall story arc. It's difficult because there were many story arcs to the show and they overlapped. I did my best to make something that old fans of the show may like, I hope. But at the same time something for someone who may not have seen the show and hopefully this will give you an idea if it's something you'd like to watch. So, I'm not aiming for huge amounts of views here lol.

If you haven't seen this show I give it my highest recommendation. I know it's good because after I watched the last episode there was this empty feeling in the pit of my stomach, in the knowledge that there will be no more. (Yeah I watched the entire series, movies and all the spinoff series including "Babylon 5: The Lost Tales. Which only had two episodes.)

B5 starts off a little clunky trying to find its stride, the first season is basically character and story arc development with some stand alone episodes, so it's a little slow. But once the story lines start to come together WOW! If you intend to invest time in the series give it at least till the second season, you won't regret it.

Another thing I noticed is that Babylon 5 has an excellent musical score. They used very little canned music for this series, each episode was scored with it's own individual music.

What B5 is, IMO is a book that's been made into a series. It's been tried in the past(and present) to present popular books as movies, miniseries etc. They often times fail because you simply can't effectively fit the amount of detail in a book into a short time frame like a movie or miniseries. The only way to do it is to have a weekly series like B5.

Another observation. A lot Sci-Fi shows go for the stand alone episode format, where each episode is somewhat formulaic and have little to do with each other. Sure there are some weak story arcs that hold the whole premise of the show together, but you can essentially catch one single episode and if you've missed most of the rest of the series it will make little difference. Some other popular shows like Star Trek series will have around 25% of the episodes which have to do with some story arc. B5 on the other hand is like 75% Story arc. You can watch the show and see various things happening, taking shape and in a later season it all seems to come together and you're like "Oh! That's why he said that". Or "Oh! That's why that happened'. The writing was really well done. The key is don't miss an episode and pay attention.

All in all this series is up there in the top Sci-Fi shows you don't want to miss. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I put as many as I could think of off the top of my head but if I missed your favorite Sci-Fi show in the poll no problem, lets hear about it in the comments.

What do you think about a Firefly video?

This should look fine in fullscreen.

MATURE not for all audiences.

Another montage of random GIFs, pics and stuff. New, old, whatever I found on my HD from the last year or so, I shoved it in there. The opening sequence with the mushroom cloud was the start of another project that I didn't go through with, so I used it here too. I was just going to do enough for the Johhny Cash song, you can kind of tell where I ended it, but then I figured what the hell and kept it going.

Originally broadcast from 1976 to 1977, 1 season wonder with 13 episodes.

Holmes and YoYo is considered one of the worst TV shows of all time according to TV guides 50 worst shows, number 33 in sitcoms/comedies I believe. Still, there is a noticeable influence on other TV shows and movies involving robot cops. In the 76 broadcast season commercial time sales were up a little over fifty percent over the previous year. A network exec was quoted as saying "This season we could sell a test pattern". Interestingly enough it's at times like these that networks were more likely to take chances with new concepts for a show. In the case of this one it didn't pay off.

You might recognize John Schuck from a more popular role in McMillan and Wife, not a bad actor, horrible robot. The concept for this show was supposed to ride the coattails of successful shows at the time like The Six Million Dollar man. Why someone figured that concept might work as a comedy is beyond me but here it is for your enjoyment.

Aired from 1972 to 1977, 5 seasons 121 episodes. The pilot was based on the novel "Poor, Poor Ophelia" by Carolyn Weston.

Even though crime dramas were quite popular in the 70's this show is basically all Karl Malden and Michael Douglas, without them this would have been a flop. There was chemistry. When Douglas left the show in 1975 and was replaced with Richard Hatch (Yeah the Hatch that later starred on Battlestar Galactica) some chemistry was lost and the show subsequently lost it's ratings.

Not that Hatch is a bad actor, it was breaking up that duo that did it in. Michael Douglas had some success in 1975 with a movie he produced called "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" and felt that this new found success provided better opportunities, so he left the show. He later made a successful TV to film transition as you probably know.

This is one of those TV shows that starred a lot of people who later went on to become famous in TV and movies. Quinn Martin was a gatekeeper production company for many decades in show biz.

Originally broadcast from 1977 to 1978, 2 seasons 38 episodes. The highly successful 1974 movie of the same name is considered the pilot for the series. There was also a movie which concludes the series called "The Capture of Grizzly Adams" from 1982, where Adams ultimately proves his innocence.

There was also a 1990 film called "The Legend of Grizzly Adams". In that movie Adams was played by Gene Edwards who was Dan Haggerty's stunt double in the TV show, other than that there is no connection with the show.

Ben the bear's real name was Bozo.

Look closely at the Apple easy dessert commercial and see if you can spot a younger and thinner George Wendt long before his days as Norm on Cheers.

This intro is not the best video quality but the sound is pretty good. The source is from 16mm film that was transferred to VHS tape in the 1980's. The video tape didn't hold up very well. It's the best I have for now until I can do another film transfer myself. I have the original film reels, I should be able to get better video from it. That will be quite some time from now, until then enjoy!

This video is part of an ongoing project to build a retrospective TV archive made for the LL community on my Retro TV channel at

Originally aired from 1952 to 1958, 6 seasons 104 episodes. Based loosely on the comic book concept of Joe Schuster and Jerry Siegel. This was the first TV show to feature Superman.

This intro is from a black and white season. In the third season Superman was filmed in color but broadcast in B&W, not many people had color TV's at that time, people wouldn't really see the episodes filmed in color until the mid 60's when the show ran in syndication.

Robert Lippert's "Superman and the Molemen" is generally considered the pilot for this series. Directed by Lee Sholem, the script was written by Robert Maxwell. It starred George Reeves and Phyllis Coates. That hour long movie was later divided up into two episodes and broadcast as "The Unknown People".

You look at the flying effects and think it's hokey but it was actually pretty sophisticated for the time. If you glance at other shows from the early 50's you'll see what I mean, like Flash Gordon for example.
