The soldiers of the 1st French army lead by the Marshall de Lattre de Tassigny that arrived the 15th of august on the Var shores, joined the battle from the 23rd of august. They ended the fights by neutralizing one by one the different German strong points by both negotiation and Fights. With the fleeing time, most recollection of this week of intense fighting has gone. Very few passers-by know that the name of the street they are walking in corresponds to a partisan or a soldier hero. However a strong symbol of the battle is still present in the hearts and minds of all the Marseille inhabitants: it is a simple tank facing the church of Notre Dame de la Garde at the exact place where it was destroyed the 25th of august.
