George Zimmerman Released on $150,000 Bail

Florida authorities released George Zimmerman Sunday evening on
$150,000 bail, as he awaits his second-degree murder trial for the
shooting of unarmed teen Trayvon Martin.

The neighborhood watch volunteer was wearing a brown jacket and blue
jeans and carrying a paper bag as he walked out of the jail around
midnight Sunday. He was following another man and didn't look over at
photographers gathered outside. The two then got into a white BMW car
and drove away.

No questions were shouted at Zimmerman from members of the news media at the scene, and he gave no statement.

His ultimate destination is being kept secret for his safety and it could be outside Florida.

As with the July 2011 release of Casey Anthony, the Florida woman
acquitted of murder in the death of her young daughter, Zimmerman was
released around midnight. But the similarities end there. Anthony was
quickly whisked away by deputy sheriffs armed with rifles as angry
protesters jeered her. While news helicopters briefly tracked her SUV
through Orlando before she slipped from public view, there was no such
pursuit of Zimmerman, who will have to return for trial.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester said at a hearing Friday that Zimmerman
cannot have any guns and must observe a 7 p.m.-to-6 a.m. curfew.
Zimmerman also surrendered his passport.

Zimmerman had to put up 10 percent, or $15,000, to make bail. His father had indicated he might take out a second mortgage.

Zimmerman worked at a mortgage risk-management company at the time of the shooting and his wife is in nursing school. A website was set up to collect donations for Zimmerman's defense fund. It is unclear how much has been raised.

Bail is not unheard of in second-degree murder cases, and legal experts had predicted it would be granted for Zimmerman
because of his ties to the community, because he turned himself in
after he was charged last week, and because he has never been convicted
of a serious crime.

Prosecutors had asked for $1 million bail, citing two previous
scrapes Zimmerman had with the law, neither of which resulted in
charges. In 2005, he had to take anger management courses after he was
accused of attacking an undercover officer who was trying to arrest
Zimmerman's friend. In another incident, a girlfriend accused him of
attacking her.

Zimmerman, 28, fatally shot Martin, 17, during an altercation on Feb.
26 inside the gated community where Zimmerman lived. Martin was unarmed
and was walking back to the home of his father's fianc'ee when Zimmerman
saw him, called 911 and began following him. A fight broke out -
investigators say it is unknown who started it.

Zimmerman says Martin, who was visiting from Miami, attacked him. Zimmerman says he shot Martin in self-defense, citing Florida's "stand your ground" law , which gives broad legal protection to anyone who says they used deadly force because they feared death or great bodily harm.

Zimmerman was not charged for over six weeks, sparking national
protests led by Martin's parents, civil rights groups and the Revs.
Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Martin was black; Zimmerman's father is a
white, non-Latino and his mother is from Peru.

Earlier Sunday, Zimmerman's attorney was working to secure the money
for bail and a safe place for Zimmerman to stay. But residents in
Sanford, where Martin was killed, didn't expect a ruckus once Zimmerman
was released.

City commissioners said they hadn't received calls from nervous
residents. Protesters didn't show up outside the jail. And talk at one
local coffee shop seldom focused on the case.

"It's just kind of a non-issue now," said Michele Church, a server at
Mel's Family Diner. "That's pretty much all anybody in Sanford wanted,
was an arrest, so it could be sorted out in the court system."

On Friday, a Florida judge agreed to let Zimmerman out on $150,000
bail. Defense attorney Mark O'Mara has said there are several options
for where Zimmerman should go, but would not disclose any of them.
Lester on Friday indicated Zimmerman would be allowed to leave the state
if arrangements with law enforcement could be made for him to be
monitored.

He was fitted with an electronic device when he was released Sunday,
according to a statement from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

About a half-dozen photographers and cameramen camped outside the
Sanford jail Sunday, focused on the door marked "Bonds Rooms," where
other people who had been arrested and released on bail exited.
Zimmerman had entered the jail about a week earlier after more than a
month of nationwide protests calling for his arrest.

"The mood in Sanford has calmed down tremendously," said Sanford
Commissioner Patty Mahany, whose district includes the neighborhood
where Martin was killed. "I think now that people are able to see the
justice system taking place, even though they understand it's going to
be quite slow, people are willing to just remain calm and really we're
all getting back to our daily routines."

A spokeswoman for the Seminole County Sheriff's Office declined to
release any information about whether they were increasing patrols or
security.

Defense attorneys for other high-profile clients who awaited trial on
bail have said Zimmerman should leave Florida and refrain from going
out in public. Sanford residents say they aren't expecting to see him
around the neighborhood anytime soon.

"They've already said they're going to move him to a safe place,"
Church said. "Everyone has calmed down. That's all anyone in Sanford
wanted, an arrest."

Meanwhile, Martin's parents published a "Card of Thanks" in The Miami
Herald obituary page Sunday. The note says Sybrina Fulton and Tracy
Martin express their appreciation for all the public's support since
their son's death. The notice includes a photograph of Trayvon Martin
dressed in a hooded sweatshirt, similar to one he was wearing the
evening he was killed.

"Words will never express how your love, support and prayers lifted
our spirits and continue to give us the strength to march on," the
letter says.

Any kind of physical activity lowers Alzheimer's risk

Cleaning house and doing yardwork are taking on new importance. A higher
level of physical activity - not just exercising - is linked to a
reduced risk of developing Alzheimer's disease even in people over 80,
suggests research published Wednesday in the journal Neurology.
Protective activities include washing
dishes, cooking, cleaning, gardening - even playing cards. People who
scored in the bottom 10% of physical activity were more than twice as
likely to develop Alzheimer's. Study participants did not have dementia
at the start of the four-year study, which is part of the ongoing
Memory and Aging Project at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago."The
implication of this study is really astounding," says physician Aron
Buchman, the lead author. "Exercise is good, without a doubt, but this
study is about more than exercise. Older people who might not be able to
exercise can tailor activities that are right for them."There
is no cure or drug to delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease, which
affects about 5 million people in the USA; numbers are expected to
triple as Baby Boomers get older. Aging is the main risk factor.During
the study, 71 of the 716 study participants developed Alzheimer's.
Study authors say this is the first study to use an objective
measurement of all physical activity in addition to self-reports.
Participants wore an actigraph on their wrists to assess levels of
activity. The mean score for participants was
3.3 hours per week. Intensity of exercise also mattered: People in the
bottom 10% of intensity of physical activity were almost three times as
likely to develop Alzheimer's.The study is
the latest evidence that physical activity, even in later years, aids in
delaying Alzheimer's. The study did not attempt to measure which
activities were most helpful."We've known
that muscle activity generates neurons in the brain, but this study
gives us additional motivation," says physician Gary Kennedy, director
of geriatric psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, who
was not associated with the study. "It shows you don't have to go to the
gym. Older people very often don't want to do that."Results
did not vary by age, sex or education. The authors also looked at
chronic health and genetic factors. Among the findings:oBody mass index, depressive symptoms or vascular risk factors did not change the association between activities and risk.

oThe gene APOE4, which puts people at higher risk for developing Alzheimer's, did not change the results.

Alzheimer's
develops for years prior to symptoms occurring, notes Kennedy. The
authors tried to control for that possibility by administering baseline
cognitive tests. "This is an important
message for society as the largest growing segment of our population is
old people," says Buchman. "We need to be encouraging physical
activities even in very old individuals, even if their health doesn't
allow them to take part in fitness programs."In
an accompanying editorial, the authors cite physical activity as a
promising, low-cost, easily accessible and side-effect-free means to
prevent Alzheimer's.

First Intel-powered smartphone to be launched in India

Intel has confirmed details of the first smartphone to be powered by one of its processors.

The XOLO X900, made by the Indian manufacturer Lava, will go on sale on 23 April priced at about 22,000 rupees (lb265).

Lava has teamed up with Indian retail chain Croma to distribute the device across the country.

The move follows Intel's previous failed attempt to break into the smartphone market.

A tie-up with manufacturer LG in 2010 fell flat, with no models going into production.

Meanwhile, chips designed by British-based ARM and the American firm Qualcomm now dominate the market.

Details of Intel-powered smartphones made by Motorola Mobility and Lenovo are expected soon.

  Hyper threading
The chip maker announced the partnerships at the Consumer Electronics Show in Barcelona in January.

Intel's tie-up with Motorola Mobility is seen as most significant as the company is in the process of being purchased by Google.

The Atom-based chip promises more efficient battery
consumption, as well as Intel's own "hyper threading technology"
allowing for enhanced multi-tasking.
The XOLO X900 - which features an 8-megapixel camera - will
run initially on Android Gingerbread, Google's smartphone operating
system.
This will later be upgraded, Intel said, to the next incarnation of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Lava has emerged as one of India's fastest-growing companies since being founded two-and-a-half years ago.

"After our success in feature phones, with over 10 million
happy customers in under three years, XOLO will be a differentiated
player in the fast-growing smartphone segment," Lava's co-founder and
director Vishal Sehgal said in a statement .

Facebook, Google Must Adapt as Users Embrace 'Unsocial' Networks

When Facebook bought the photo-sharing app Instagram for $1 billion, theories flew as to what it might mean. Was Mark Zuckerberg defensive, worried that his 850 million Facebook users might stop uploading
250 million photos a day? Or was he making a proactive move into
mobile, where Instagram's friendly interface makes Facebook look clunky
on iPhones? The real story is both-and one of splintering social
networks that are breaking up the vast, open "social graphs" that give
Facebook and others such power. Facebook's acquisition of Instagram is a
signal that smaller, closed networks are growing popular by giving
audiences more control over what they share. The networking giants, such
as Facebook and Google, will have to allow consumers new ways to build
tighter social circles. And marketers will face new challenges in "going
viral" among the masses. For nearly a decade, marketers have been
agog over the promise of social networks to provide free advertising, a
cascade of word-of-mouth in which consumers act as advocates for a
brand or product. The dream is based in part on Robert Metcalfe's law -the
concept by the inventor of the Ethernet that in any networked system,
value grows exponentially as more users join. Like the old 1970s shampoo
commercial, you tell a customer about your product, and she tells two
friends, and so on, and so on, until the world is knocking on your
hair-products door. Going viral like this requires massive connections
of friends.Trouble is, Metcalfe was wrong, at least with human networks. In a landmark 2006 column in IEEE Spectrum ,
researchers Bob Briscoe, Andrew Odlyzko, and Benjamin Tilly showed
mathematically that networks have a fundamental flaw if all nodes are
not created equal. The authors pointed primarily to Zipf's law ,
a concept by 1930s linguist George Zipf that in any system of
resources, there exists declining value for each subsequent item. In the
English language, we use the word "the" in 7 percent of all utterances,
followed by "of" for 3.5 percent of words, with trailing usage of terms
ending somewhere around the noun " floccinaucinihilipilification ."
On Facebook, your connections work the same way from your spouse to
best friend to boss to that old girlfriend who now lives in Iceland.Human
networks, like words in English, have long tails of diminishing usage.
New, smaller social media tools are resonating because they recognize we
have limits on what we share and whom we listen to. Here are a few:o Path .
This social network restricts you to 150 friends, the exact number that
British anthropologist Robin Dunbar suggested was the upper limit on
human relationships. While Path users can post images, videos, or
locations to Facebook and Twitter, the core appeal is creating a closed
circle of high-quality connections.o Pinterest . This network is the darling of 2012, skyrocketing
to No. 3 in usage behind Facebook and Twitter. Users tag, or "pin,"
images of things they like and sort into online scrapbooks. While users
can follow others and comment on their posts, about 90 percent of usage
in my observations has been pins with zero social comments. Pinterest is all about what you like, not how you communicate with others.o Google+ vs. Facebook vs. Twitter . Google ( GOOG )
finally got social networking right in 2011 when it gave up on Buzz and
launched G+, a cleaner version of Facebook with strong privacy
features. Google+'s "Circles" allow you to sort friends into groups, and
then share different things with different circles of friends. Facebook
rapidly copied the idea by making it easier to post updates to select
groups of friends. And while Twitter is open to all, one of its popular
features is "lists" that allow you to view updates of only handfuls of
online contacts.o Springpad . This innovative note-taking application
allows users to save items they like, via Web or mobile, and appends
useful information such as price comparisons or movie times. While you
can share items with anyone, the default settings are private, and the
app's slogan is "share and discover with the people you trust."o Instagram . Yes, this is an open network that allows liking and commenting on photos. But Instagram
is primarily a photo broadcasting tool, and its rapid growth to 40
million users is driven by how easy it is to make your mobile snaps look
professional.

Nokia Posts $1.2 Billion Loss as Phone Sales Tumble

BERLIN - Nokia , struggling to reinvent its smartphone business around Microsoft 's
Windows software, said Thursday that it lost EUR929 million - about $1.2
billion - in the first quarter as sales plunged 29 percent amid flagging
demand for its lineup of older Symbian smartphones.
The loss contrasts to a profit of EUR344 million, or $451 million, one
year earlier. Sales in the most recent quarter fell to EUR7.4 billion from
EUR10.4 billion a year ago. In a statement, the Nokia president and chief
executive, Stephen Elop, said the company would accelerate cost-cutting
amid what he described as a mixed response to the new Lumia smartphones
with Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system.
"Over the last year we have made progress on our new strategy, but we
have faced greater-than-expected competitive challenges," Mr. Elop said.
Referring to the four Lumia smartphones now on sale, Mr. Elop said:
"The actual sales results have been mixed. We exceeded expectations in
markets including the United States, but establishing momentum in
certain markets including the U.K. has been more challenging."
The company, based in Espoo, Finland, had warned investors last week of
its first-quarter loss, with losses continuing into the second quarter.

In addition to cutting costs, Nokia has said it will explore unspecified
"structural changes," which some analysts interpreted to mean the sale
of business units, such as its 50 percent stake in Nokia Siemens, the
money-losing network equipment joint venture.
Nokia said it took a EUR772 million charge for restructuring efforts at Nokia Siemens.
Shares of Nokia rose 2.9 percent in Helsinki trading to EUR3.12.
Francisco Jeronimo, an analyst at International Data Corp. in London,
said that investors have been heartened to see gains in sales of the
Lumia lineup, which the company introduced last year. Nokia sold more
than 1 million Lumia phones during the fourth quarter of last year. In
the first quarter of this year, the number doubled to 2 million, at an
average selling price of EUR220.
"It took more than a year for Apple to sell more than 1 million iPhones in a quarter," Mr. Jeronimo said. "And it took Google- Android more than 1.5 years to sell more than 1 million Android handsets. So judged by that measure, Nokia is doing well."
In the short term, however, Nokia continues to suffer financially.
Sales in Nokia's core devices and services division, which make up 60
percent of total sales, fell 40 percent in the quarter, to EUR4.24 billion
from EUR7.1 billion. Overall smartphone sales fell 52 percent in the
period, to EUR1.7 billion from EUR3.5 billion, reflecting weakness in
devices using the Symbian operating system, which Nokia is phasing out.

The number of smartphones shipped by Nokia to operators and other
sellers fell to 11.9 million from 24.2 million in the quarter.
Sales of basic cellphones, which account for the bulk of Nokia's handset
revenue, also fell amid rising competition from low-cost Asian rivals
and pressure from Chinese mobile network operators, which are
aggressively discounting the prices of basic phones. The average selling
price for a basic phone fell by 18 percent, to EUR33 from EUR40 a year ago.

On Monday, Moody's downgraded Nokia's long- and short-term debt ratings,
citing the company's deteriorating financial position and raising
questions about its ability to shift its smartphone business from
Symbian to Windows. Moody's lowered its rating on Nokia's senior debt to
Baaa3 from Baaa2 and its rating on short-term debt to Prime-3 from
Prime-2.
Moody's warned that Nokia may also have to inject more money into Nokia
Siemens, its venture with the German conglomerate, which lost a combined
EUR986 million in 2010 and 2011. Nokia, in responding to the credit
downgrades, said Monday that it was on target to reduce production
overhead at Nokia Siemens by EUR1 billion a year, as well as to cut EUR1
billion from operating costs in its core devices and services business.

But losses at Nokia Siemens are accelerating. In the first quarter, the
venture had an operating loss of EUR1 billion after a EUR142 million loss a
year earlier. Sales fell 7 percent to EUR2.9 billion.

India announced Thursday the successful test launch of a
new nuclear-capable missile that would give it, for the first time, the
capability of striking the major Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai.

        				        						The government has hailed the
Agni-V missile, with a range of 5,000 kilometers, as a major boost to
its efforts to counter China's regional dominance and become an Asian
power in its own right.
The head of India's Defense Research and Development
Organization, Vijay Saraswat, said the missile was launched at 8:07 a.m.
from Wheeler Island off India's east coast.

It rose to an altitude of more
than 600 kilometers (370 miles), its three stages worked properly and
its payload was deployed as planned, he told Times Now news channel.

"India has emerged from this launch as a major missile power," he said

'Rogue' Alien Planets May Circle Billions of Stars

Billions of stars in our Milky Way galaxy have captured rogue alien
planets that once cruised freely through interstellar space, a new study
suggests.

Many wandering alien worlds, which were ejected from the solar systems
in which they formed, likely find new homes with different suns,
according to the study. The finding could explain why some alien planets orbit extremely far from their stars, researchers said.

"Stars trade planets just like baseball teams trade players," study
lead author Hagai Perets, of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for
Astrophysics, said in a statement.
Simulating star clusters

Perets and co-author Thijs Kouwenhoven of China's Peking University
simulated the evolution of young star clusters containing about as many
free-floating planets as stars. They found that 3 to 6 percent of the
stars would grab a rogue over time. The more massive a star, the more
likely it is to snag a planet.

They studied young star clusters because capture is more likely when stars and rogue planets
are crowded together. Over time, close interactions between stars cause
clusters to disperse, so any planet-star encounters have to happen
early in the cluster's history, researchers said.

Rogue planets are a natural consequence of star formation. Newborn solar systems
often contain multiple planets. One or more of these worlds can be
ejected as a result of planet-planet interactions, becoming interstellar
travelers.

Scientists think such roamers are common throughout our Milky Way galaxy. One study last year, for example, estimated that rogues outnumber "normal" alien planets with obvious parent stars by at least 50 percent, and that they're nearly twice as common as main-sequence stars like our sun.

Rogues don't have to stay parentless forever, however. They can latch
onto a different host star if it's traveling in the same direction at
about the same speed, researchers said.

Captured planets generally end up hundreds or thousands of times
farther from their new stars than Earth is from the sun. They're also
likely to have orbits that are tilted relative to any "native" planets,
and they may even revolve around their stars "backward," researchers
said.
Finding captured rogues

Astronomers have yet to detect any clear-cut cases of captured rogues.
Imposters can be difficult to rule out, since gravitational interactions
within a solar system can throw native planets into wide, tilted orbits
that mimic the signature of a captured world, researchers said.

Perhaps the best evidence to date in support of planetary capture comes
from the 2006 discovery of two huge planets - 14 and 7 times more
massive than Jupiter - orbiting each other without a star.

"The rogue double-planet system is the closest thing we have to a
'smoking gun' right now," Perets said. "To get more proof, we'll have to
build up statistics by studying a lot of planetary systems."

	Finding a planet in a far-flung orbit around a low-mass star would be a
good sign of capture, researchers said, because the star's disk
wouldn't have had enough material to form the planet so far out.

Is it possible that our own solar system grabbed a wandering planet?
Astronomers have peered at the outer reaches beyond the dwarf planet
Pluto, and they haven't found anything yet.

"There's no evidence that the sun captured a planet," Perets said. "We
can rule out large planets. But there's a non-zero chance that a small
world might lurk on the fringes of our solar system."

The study will appear in the April 20 issue of The Astrophysical Journal.

Total hits 230 cities, covers about two-thirds of the U.S. population.
April 18, 2012, 7:22 AM -
Verizon Wireless will expand its faster 4G LTE network to 27 new cities
on Thursday, bringing the total to 230 metro areas nationwide and
within the reach of two-thirds of the U.S. population.
Verizon was the first of the major U.S. carriers to offer LTE and has
a big lead over AT&T, with 38 markets on LTE, and Sprint, which is
planning to role out LTE to six cities in mid-year.
Verizon has begun showing TV ads that brag it has six times the
geographic coverage of AT&T with LTE. Verizon now offers 20
LTE-capable smartphones, tablets and modems, including the new Lucid
smartphone by LG and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.
Verizon said its LTE network speeds on
fully-loaded cell towers average 5-12Mbps for downloads and 2-5Mbps for
uploads. Outside of LTE areas, devices revert to 3G speeds, often about
one-tenth as fast.
In addition to the 27 new cities getting LTE on Thursday, Verizon
said it will expand its LTE coverage within 44 existing markets. By the
end of 2012, Verizon will offer LTE service in 400 cities, reaching more
than 260 million people, the carrier said.
Thursday's LTE activations are in the following locations: Auburn and
Tuscaloosa, Ala.; Pine Bluff, Siloam Springs and Van Buren, Ark.;
Visalia/Porterville, Calif.; Fort Walton Beach and Ocala, Fla.;
Brunswick, LaGrange and Macon/Warner Robins, Ga.; Peoria, Ill.;
Kokomo/Logansport and Marion, Ind.; Dodge City, Garden City, Great Bend
and Hays, Kansas; Salisbury, Md.; Cattaraugus/Allegany, N.Y.; Sandusky,
Ohio; Ardmore and Ponca City, Okla.; Salem/Albany/Corvallis, Ore.;
Pierre, S.D.; and Big Springs and Tyler, Texas.

North Korea Breaks Off Agreement with US

The International Atomic Energy Agency says it is now unlikely to send a
delegation to North Korea, after Pyongyang stated it is no longer bound
by an agreement with the United States not to test missiles and nuclear
devices.

Spokeswoman Gill Tudor made the announcement late
Tuesday, ending hopes for the visit for which IAEA officials began
negotiating with North Korea in March.

Earlier in the day,
Pyongyang said it was breaking off a bilateral agreement to halt its
nuclear activities and allow IAEA inspectors to enter the country after
the U.S. suspended much needed food aid. Washington said North Korea did
not keep its end of the bargain when it carried out its failed missile
launch on Friday.

North Korea's Foreign Ministry vowed to
continue trying to fire a long-range rocket into space to place what it
said was a weather satellite into orbit. It also vowed unspecified
retaliation now that the agreement with the U.S. is no longer in place.

State
Department spokesperson Mark Toner said Tuesday that Pyongyang's
statement was "not surprising, given their recent behavior." He said he
could not predict whether North Korea is laying the ground work for a
future nuclear test, as some fear.

"Frankly, it's very difficult
to say. It's a very opaque regime. We parse out their public comments,"
said Toner. "We also know that in the past, there's been this pattern
of bad behavior. So we can't preclude anything at this point."

Former
CIA Director Michael Hayden also refuses to speculate on whether North
Korea could follow up the failed missile launch with such a test. But he
tells VOA that he is concerned that the country's new leader, Kim Jong
Un, may feel pressured to solidify his power with an additional
provocative act.

"We have seen this pattern in the past - where
they have a missile launch, the rest of the world has responded, and
rather than compromise and negotiate, the North has taken another
provocative action. And in two instances, the provocative action has
been an attempt at a nuclear test," he said. "So I fear that this is the
course of action they may be on."

North Korea on Tuesday also
rejected the U.N. Security Council's condemnation of the failed launch.
On Monday, the Security Council ordered a tightening of sanctions aimed
at preventing North Korea from developing and exporting nuclear and
missile technology. The statement said the council will respond
accordingly to any further provocations by Pyongyang.

North Korea
insists it was within its legal rights when it launched the rocket last
week. The rocket broke apart and fell into the Yellow Sea. The launch
prompted criticism from the United Nations, long-time North Korean ally
China, the United States, Japan, and the European Union. Critics
accused the North of using the satellite scenario as a cover for testing
ballistic missile technology banned under United Nations resolutions.

South Korean defence officials said that North Korea had launched two
surface-to-ship missiles from a site on its west coast early on
Wednesday, a day after world leaders attending a nuclear security summit
in Seoul urged the regime to cancel the rocket launch and return to
six-party nuclear talks.North Korea insists that the forthcoming
launch, which is expected around 15 April to coincide with the centenary
of the birth of the country's founder Kim Il-sung, is designed to put
an observation satellite into orbit. The US, South Korea and Japan ,
however, say it would be a violation of UN security council resolutions
banning North Korea from missile activity, as the same technology could
be developed for use in multistage missiles, including those capable of
hitting the US mainland. If the launch goes ahead it will
immediately kill off a deal, which was reached at the end of February,
in which the US agreed to provide 240,000 tonnes of food aid provided
that Pyongyang end its uranium enrichment programme and tests of
long-range and nuclear missiles. The prospect of a fourth North
Korean long-range missile launch since 1998 is causing disquiet across
the region, partly due to concerns that it will veer off course and
potentially dump debris on its neighbours' territory. On Friday
Indonesia's foreign minister Marty Natalegawa urged North Korea to
abandon the launch, saying it would "undermine peace and stability in
the region".The Philippine president, Benigno Aquino, said he was
concerned that debris may fall on his country's territory, calling the
planed launch a "needless provocation".Japan is concerned that the rocket may fly over the southern island chain of Okinawa and has ordered its self-defence forces to intercept the rocket or its fragments if they pose a threat.

In
an unusual show of transparency, Pyongyang has told the international
maritime organisation that the rocket will be launched between 7am and
noon from 12-16 April. The first stage of the Unha-3 rocket will come
down about 87 miles (140km) off the west coast of South Korea, while the
second will fly over a chain near the main Okinawa island before
falling into the sea east of the northern Philippines .Japan's
defence minister, Naoki Tanaka, said the odds of the rocket striking
Japan were low, but added: "We want to be fully prepared for the
possibility of rocket fragments falling on our territory."Japan
will deploy ground-based Patriot Advanced Capability-3 interceptor
missiles in its south-west and Okinawa, and send three Aegis-equipped
destroyers carrying missile defence systems to the Japan Sea and East China Sea.Experts
doubt Japan has the ability to shoot down the rocket in mid-flight;
instead, the precautionary moves appear to be aimed at reassuring the
public that Tokyo is taking North Korea's latest provocation seriously. The
planned launch is causing particular alarm in Japan, which is already
within striking distance of North Korea's medium-range Rodong missiles. In
a report published on Friday, the national institute for defence
studies in Tokyo warned that North Korea's progress on nuclear
technology, coupled with recent regime change, had increased the risk of
conflict breaking out in the region.Satellite images taken
earlier this week show North Korea is making preparations for the
missile launch from its Tongchang-ri site, located about 35 miles from
the northern border with China. Expert analysis showed trucks and fuel
tanks outside two large buildings used to store propellant for the
rocket, although the rocket itself was not visible.http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/mar/30/north-korea-missile-launches-tensions?newsfeed=true

Updated at 7:09 a.m. ET: Surveillance video footage of
George Zimmerman being led from a police car shortly after he fatally
shot teenager Trayvon Martin does not appear to show any injuries or
bloodstains, but his attorney says the video is too grainy to be
revealing.

There are no visible signs of injuries to Zimmerman's head or blood
on his clothes. However, he is wearing a red jacket, which could obscure
blood stains.Appearing on NBC's TODAY on Thursday, Zimmerman's
attorney Craig Sonner described the video as "very grainy." He also
pointed out that Zimmerman had been "cleaned-up" and received first aid
in the four hours between the incident and Zimmerman's videotaped
arrival at the police station.Sonner has previously said that his client suffered a broken nose and a gash to his head during the altercation.

Neighborhood watch volunteer Zimmerman, 28, who was released without
charge, claims he shot dead the 17-year-old Martin on Feb. 26 in
self-defense after the teen attacked him.Eugene O'Donnell, of
John Jay College of Criminal Justice, said the video shows "that it's
beyond dispute that there are no serious injuries, physical injuries,
he's not in a hospital."

Justin Bieber may have over 19 million Twitter followers and legions
of adoring fans around the world, but the teen sensation is now facing
legal action over a phone prank gone wild. Earlier this month,
Bieber tweeted out a phone number -- with the final digit missing --
urging his followers to give him a call. The tweet was deleted a little while later but not before scads of teenaged girls grabbed their phones and started dialing.

A man and a woman in Texas said their phones have been ringing off the hook ever since.

The
couple said they plan to sue Bieber for inspiring harassment by his
"reckless" behavior. The two are now demanding an apology as well as
concert tickets and endorsements for their business or else they will
take the case to court. Pranks have also landed the teen star in
trouble before. In 2010, he narrowly escaped being arrested when he
splattered a police officer with a water balloon before a concert.
