Naked man that mounted a Perth city billboard waves his pistol

A naked man who mounted a city billboard armed with a small pistol has been arrested by heavily armed police yesterday.

Three officers from the Police Tactical Response Group used a "cherrypicker'' crane and finally managed to bring the man down to the ground, where he was taken to a waiting ambulance.

The drama ended just on 6pm, after nearly four hours.

The man is in police custody and has been taken to Royal Perth Hospital.

Police were unaware if the man was brandishing a genuine pistol or a replica, but later confirmed it was a genuine weapon.

The bizarre incident brought central Perth to standstill when the man climbed on the advertising billboard on the corner of Wellington and Barrack Streets, about 2pm.

For nearly four hours the naked man had been at the centre of a major shutdown of streets in the CBD, which is also caused disruption to city train services.

Earlier, Central City Medical Centre staff were eye level with the gunman when they were trapped in their office less than 100m from man.

About 5.50pm, receptionist Jamie Chan, 24, of East Perth, heard the police call to the man: "'We're here to help you, please come down here. We can get you suitable medical attention."

The man, who appeared to be in his 30s or 40s, had been yelling at onlookers and was pacing up and down the billboard, approximately 10 metres in the air.

No shots have been fired.

Heavily armed Police and Tactical Response Group officers were called and police snipers could be seen taking position in a nearby carpark.

Parts of Wellington, Barrack and Stirling streets were closed to traffic and pedestrians, with detours in place.

A Public Transport Authority spokesman said the incident had caused "major disruptions" to public transport services in the area.

A Burnaby Mountie got a taste of a postman's life when he was attacked by a Jack Russell Terrier mid-arrest on Thursday July 1st.

Footage shows him calmly completing the arrest of a female suspect even as her angry Terrier tears at his pant leg, which it had already ripped off up to the plain clothes officer's knee.

The officer was responding to a call of shots fired in the area of Byrne Road and Lowland Drive.

2 suspects, a man and a woman, were stopped in a car and arrested.
A rifle was seized and the man is facing firearms charges.

The dog was brought to the Burnaby police station and later reunited with its owners, according to police.

Both suspects were released but the male is scheduled to appear in court to face the charges.

The Austin Police Department released dashcam video of a police officer who struck a motorcyclist with his patrol car.

Officer Damon Dunn had just completed a traffic stop near Scofield Ridge Parkway and Mopac on May 29.

According to the police report, Officer Dunn was putting notes in his computer when he realized he had rolled through a stop sign at the intersection of Magazine and Lamplight Village.

As he rolled through the stop sign, Dunn struck a motorcyle ridden by 74-year-old Louis Olivier.

Olivier was taken to Brackenridge where he remained in good condition Friday.

No disciplinary action was taken against Officer Dunn.

There is a law enforcement exemption that allows police to use mobile data units, such as computers, in their vehicles while driving.

A jewellery store owner from Saltaire, West Yorkshire, UK, released cctv footage of the moment he turned the tables on 2 masked robbers brandishing a samurai sword and an axe.

John Bradley, 40, said he made public video of the incident from September last year in a bid to track down the bandits, who are yet to be identified.

The armed men burst into his jewelry shop in a bid to make off with the lb200,000 worth of valuables it houses.

But the 40-year-old fought back. Pushing the robber with the sword and disarming him, Bradley falls through glass cabinets in the scuffle before chasing the pair out of the store, empty-handed, with their own weapon.

Mr Bradley, a married father of two, sustained a minor hand injury that required surgery, during the incident.

The owner released the footage after a man was acquitted in court last week, accused of driving the getaway car.

Runaway saw blade spinning through front yard leaving gap in neighbor's house

A home security camera has captured a runaway saw blade shooting through a northern Ohio yard leaving a huge gap into the side of a house.

CCTV shows a large blade spinning off a saw being used to cut through a street.

The blade then rolls through a front yard and leaves a 3-foot gash in the side of an empty house in Lorain, a town about 25 miles west of Cleveland.

Rachel Gayhart says she and her husband checked their video Monday to see why the street work wasn't finished.

She says the blade missed a gas meter on the side of the neighboring house by two feet.

The video shows a construction worker retrieving the runaway blade and putting it back on the saw like nothing happened.

Lorain officials say the firm doing the work under contract for the city is investigating.

Waterbury police are still looking for the suspect who tried to rob a store last Friday but instead was beaten with a baseball bat by the store's owner.

Around 1 p.m. Friday, a robber entered United Liquors, and demanded money.

He flashed a chrome pistol and fired a shot into the wall to show the cashier he was serious.

But Mr. Keshwala, the store owner and cashier, wasn't going to be intimidated.

He grabbed a baseball bat from behind the counter as a neighbor, Richard Riley, came inside to help.

The store owner began slugging the robber and they pushed him into a corner of the store.

During the struggle, the thief fired a second shot into the back wall.

He managed to wrest free and escaped with some cash he swiped from the cash register.

Police have checked local hospitals for the man, who was likely bleeding from the head as a result of the beating.

Cop charged with felony aggravated battery & misconduct caught on dashcam

A suburban Chicago police officer caught on dashcam hitting a motorist 15 times with his metal baton and firing a stun gun at the man's passenger has been charged with felony aggravated battery and official misconduct, and more charges are possible, prosecutors say.

Neither man attacked or threatened Streamwood Police Officer James Mandarino during the early morning traffic stop last month, Cook County, Ill. prosecutors say.

In fact, the video taken from the officer's dashboard camera suggests that both the driver, Ronald Bell, 28, and the passenger did exactly as they were told.

"This conduct as displayed on the video by this officer is not only disturbing, it's outrageous and is unacceptable," Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez said during a news conference.

"Every law enforcement officer holds his or her powers through the public trust and this officer's senseless act of rage against an unarmed citizen constitutes and offensive violation of that trust."

Mandarino, 41, a 15-year police veteran, was charged with felony aggravated battery and official misconduct.

If convicted, he could face up to 5 years in prison on each count.

Mandarino did not enter a plea during a brief hearing. The judge set his bond at $50,000.

Mandarino's attorney, Ed Wandering, says Mandarino's record speaks for itself.

"He's a decorated officer," Wandering says.
"He was officer of the year three or four years ago."

Prosecutors said Mandarino followed the car and pulled it over after he heard its tires squeal shortly before 4 a.m. on March 28.

After Bell pulled into the driveway at the home of his brother, Stacey Bell, and climbed out of the vehicle, Mandarino approached him with his gun drawn, Alvarez said.

While there is no audio on the video, it appears that Ronald Bell got back into the car after Mandarino ordered him to.

Mandarino then turned to the passenger, who had also gotten out of vehicle, and fired a stun gun at him twice, Alvarez said.

Ronald Bell then got out of the car, put his hands in the air and got down on his knees while keeping his hands behind his head, apparently on orders from Mandarino.

That's when Mandarino repeatedly struck Ronald Bell on his head, neck and shoulders, Alvarez said.

Stacey Bell tells "I saw the officer striking my brother.

It kind of was very shocking to me, and I went outside and was pleading with them to stop beating my brother.

I was saying, 'He's complying with your commands. I don't understand why you're beating him." '

Ronald Bell suffered a concussion, a cut on his ear that required seven stitches and various bruises.
The passenger wasn't injured.

"He's recovering," Stacey Bell told Glor. " ... He just doesn't want to make any statements to jeopardize the case against the officer."

Mandarino arrested Ronald Bell on suspicion of drunken driving, resisting arrest, threatening an officer and various traffic offenses. All of those charges have been dropped, Alvarez said.

She would not say what, if anything, the officer said to justify his actions.

The charges against Mandarino stem from the alleged beating. No charges were filed in connection with the officer's use of the stun gun, but more charges are likely, Alvarez says.

Police department officials saw the video and notified Alvarez's office within 24 hours of the incident.

Mandarino has been placed on paid administrative leave, the police department said in a statement that announced the officer's arrest but declined further comment.

Stacey Bell remarked to Glor that he's "not happy with the fact that this guy's on administrative leave.

I don't think he should be getting paid by the residents of Streamwood after the actions we witnessed."
