I assume a lot of that criticism came from the same people who don't see any problem with Obama saying he basically wasn't even there. That he needs to have an "investigation" to figure out what went wrong because he really doesn't know what happened. Just so people understand, embassies are American soil and an ambassador is a 4 star general. *Any* attack on American soil goes right up to the top, just like you see happen here with Bush. I know its not dramatic or like you see in movies, but as you can see during 9/11, no matter where you are or what you are doing as president, the watch command will send the message up the chain until somebody *physically* walks up and delivers the message to the president. Even if they are in the middle of something and the Chief of Staff has to whisper it in the Presidents ear. That happens 24/7/365 unless the president is physically or mentally incapacitated. Anywhere and everywhere. So this is something to remember as you hear this story about an investigation and who knew what and when. The only thing that makes any sense whatsoever is that Obama ordered a stand-down. But why was that order issued? And now that we know there was a drone there sending footage back to the situation room people were monitoring real time. Chris Matthews immediately goes into some kind of defense mode over a certain response. So my question to everybody is this: Does having and watching 24/7 cable news networks inform or misinform people more? Or has it just destroyed what was left of main stream journalism by turning news into talking heads and opinionated commentary? Take for example, the fact that large portions of our population now tune to a comedy channel to get their news. I assume its because we've gone so far down that road that people can't tell the difference between *real* information vs bias, persuasion, manipulation, and/or personal opinions. The Yemeni government asked NATO to assist in searching for survivors. Ken Allan, a Navy spokesman, said a NATO fleet just outside the territorial waters of the island Jazirt Atta-Ir reported seeing a "catastrophic volcanic eruption" at 7 p.m. local time. The 2-mile-long island is about 70 miles off the coast of Yemen. "At this time, the entire island is aglow with lava and magma as it pours down into the sea. We do not have confirmation of how many people were on this island at the time of the eruption," Allan said in an email. "The lava is spewing hundreds of feet into the air, with the volcanic ash also (rising) a thousand feet in the air," Allan said. The Canadian Armed Forces said they are trying to locate nine people believed to be at sea after the Yemen coast guard requested help. The NATO fleet was sailing toward the Suez Canal when it spotted the eruption. The government of Yemen asked NATO to assist in the search for survivors and the closet ship, the HMCS Toronto, is heading toward the island. Yemen is a poor tribal Sunni Muslim country at the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula.
