Man who helped Sandy Hook kids is harassed by conspiracy theorists

A man who found six children in
his driveway in Newtown, Conn., after their teacher had been shot and
killed in last month's school massacre has become the target of
conspiracy theorists who believe the shootings were staged.
"I don't know what to do," Gene Rosen told Salon.com.
"I'm getting hang-up calls, I'm getting some calls, I'm getting emails
with, not direct threats, but accusations that I'm lying, that I'm a
crisis actor, 'How much am I being paid?'"
Rosen, a 69-year-old retired
psychologist who lives near Sandy Hook Elementary School where the
shootings took place, says his inbox is filled with emails like this
one:
How
are all those little students doing? You know, the ones that showed up
at your house after the 'shooting'. What is the going rate for getting
involved in a gov't sponsored hoax anyway?
"The quantity of the material is
overwhelming," Rosen said, adding that he's sought the advice of a
retired state police officer and plans to alert the FBI.

On the morning of Dec. 14, Rosen had just finished feeding his cats
when he saw six small children "sitting in a neat semicircle" at the end
of his driveway. According to the Associated Press:

A school bus driver was standing over them, telling them things would
be all right. It was about 9:30 a.m., and the children, he discovered,
had just run from the school to escape a gunman.
"We can't go back to school," one little boy told Rosen. "Our teacher is dead."

Adam Lanza, the 20-year-old gunman, had shot his way into the school and opened fire, killing 20 children and six adults.

  Scenes from Newtown, Dec. 14-21, 2012 ]

Rosen took the four girls and two boys-students of slain teacher
Victoria Soto-into his home, gave them toys and comforted them while he
tried to reach their parents. He spent the days following the massacre
telling his story to the swarming media that invaded the small
Connecticut town in the wake of the shootings.
"I wanted to speak about the bravery of the children," Rosen told Salon . "I guess I kind of opened myself up to this."

A quick Web search for Rosen's name reveals some of what he's opened
himself up to: Appearing online are photos of his home, his address and
phone number, several fake YouTube accounts and plenty of conspiracy
theories.
One post, entitled "Grieving Town Grandfather, or Bad 'Crisis Actor,'" reads in part:

Gene's oft repeated, and changing, story about that day, focuses
totally on the kids and the sound of gunshots. Even though his eyes and
ears should've taken in the whole scene, his story focuses completely on
the kids and the guns.
Why? Well, if this was a false
flag event designed to move political opinion on gun control, here in
America, then you would get a lot more bang for your buck by talking
about the innocent little children. That's what tugs on America's heart
strings the most ... especially around Christmas time.

Oxygen's New Show "All My Babies' Mamas" Makes Everyone Mad and it Hasn't Even Aired

Have we gone too far? It's a question we ask at the outset of every outrageous new reality series -be it "Survivor" or "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo." It's also usually an early sign of a show's success.

How reality TV hurts girls

But response to a new show teased as part of Oxygen Media's spring
lineup, seems to mark a momentous moment when reality has truly jumped
the shark. Collective and largely unchallenged outrage over the
network's upcoming show "All My Babies' Mamas" is the unusual case of a
show sparking enough controversy to potentially kill it.

"All My Babies' Mamas," a one-hour reality special slated to air in the
spring of 2013, features Carlos "Shawty Lo" Walker, an Atlanta-based
hip-hop artist with 11 children by 10 different women. Oh, he's also got
a 19-year-old girlfriend, who's a year shy of his oldest child.

By the looks of the leaked sneak peak and an early press release, the
show's take on this challenging family dynamic is more "Brady Bunch"
than "An American Family."

"As the household grows, sometimes so does the dysfunction, leaving the
man of the house to split his affection multiple ways while trying to
create order," reads the goofy-sitcom-style description, in a press
release posted the Oxygen's website late December. "Will there be a
conflict over a family holiday, who needs school supplies and who holds
the household finance purse strings, or can these feisty babies' mamas
band together and live peacefully as one family unit?"

Since the show was publicized, the conflict has been primarily
off-camera. Calls for a boycott of the network and a petition to pull
the special from the network's lineup have risen to a fever pitch in the
past week.

"By pushing these degrading images, your company seeks to profit from
the humiliation of girls and women and the blatant stereotyping of
African-Americans," writes, Sabrina Lamb, the woman behind the petition.

Lamb first noticed the press release on Oxygen's website, and after
watching a 13-minute sample reel of the series on YouTube-which at one
point features Shawty Lo unsuccessfully naming his 11 kids as quiz show
music plays-she wrote an open letter to the present of Oxygen calling
for the cancellation of the show before it goes to air.

"The focus of our outrage is that they would dare exploit the pain of
these children and that Oxygen would promote this toxic situation to its
young, impressionable female audience," Lamb, an author and cultural
commentator, tells Yahoo! Shine. "There's no way this can go forward.
We're going all the way to the end with this."

As of Friday, her plea to the network's president had received well
over 13,000 signatures and countless support from bloggers, journalists,
and activists, including the NAACP.

But network executives may be just as hellbent on attracting those
young, impressionable women Lamb is talking about. In the show's press
release, Cori Abraham, senior vice president of development for Oxygen
Media promises, "All My Babies' Mamas" will be filled with outrageous
and authentic over-the-top moments that our young, diverse female
audience can tweet and gossip about."

Jennifer Lawrence weighs in on reality TV

Cat-fights, questionable parenting, and unregulated households have
become the bread-and-butter of cable TV ratings. The soaring success of
"Honey Boo Boo," "The Real Housewives" franchise, and the Kardashian
conglomerate all hinge on those three voyeuristic elements for success.
But it seems Oxygen has officially gone too far for viewers-if those
13,000 signatures are any indication.

Chicago Tribune editor Clarence Page likens the premise of "Mamas" to slavery. Huffington Post contributor and Syracuse University professor Dr. Boyce Watkins calls the show a "platform for ignorance."

"As a respected African-American media professional I can not in good
conscience allow this program to move forward," writes radio personality
Morris O'Kelly in an open letter to Oxygen.

Lamb and her fellow critics take particular offense to the press
release's suggestion of scuffles between women for entertainment
purposes, and the fact that each woman is given a pithy nickname to
describe their flattened, TV-friendly personalities ("Jealous Baby Mama"
and "Shady Baby Mama" are two of the moms). Shawty Lo's teenage
girlfriend as the can-it-get-more-outrageous X factor doesn't help.

"You've got a network with international reach telling a young female audience
it's okay to have unprotected sex, that other women are enemies, that
they're not valued by men, that their financial sustenance should come
from a man, and that babies are just spectators in all of this," Lamb
tells Shine. Still she wants to be clear: "This is not just a women's
issue."

The depiction of a disjointed African-American family, with an ill-suited father, is also a sticking point.

"To someone committed to the black family, who has spent a good part of
his career fighting to improve the image and perception of black men,
this all feels like a sticky gob of spit in my face," writes My Brown Baby's Nick Chiles in a post titled "If We Let Shawty Lo's Show Get On Air We Will Have All Failed Ourselves."

Chiles also notes the irony of the network's history. "Painfully,
Oxygen is the network that was started by, among others, Oprah Winfrey
in 1998, with the brilliant idea of-wait for it-empowering women," he
writes. "But 1998 was a loooong time ago. Since then, it was purchased
by NBC Universal in 2007 for $925 million and any kind of mission about
female empowerment was long ago abandoned."

Oxygen is not the first network to face backlash for exploiting the
tribulations of troubled family dynamics. In fact "Mamas" co-creators
and former MTV honchos, Tony DiSanto and Liz Gately, faced similar
outrage with the launch of their hit series "Teen Mom" a few years back.
But this may be the first time a show has been boycotted before it has
even completed production.

"What we have here is a show that's not even on air," says Lamb, who
also runs World of Money, a nonprofit dedicated to the financial
education of children. "We can fight this. We can say to advertisers if
this show, about kids watching their mothers fight each other for
crumbs, is what you value, then we don't support your brand."

Shine's request for a statement from Oxygen was not returned by press
time. However, we did obtain correspondence between Oxygen President
Jason Klarman and the New York Chapter of the NAACP, after a
representative from the organization requested the show be dropped from
the network.

In his emailed response, Klarman claimed "the show is still in early
development" and the footage leaked was "not representative of the final
special, which is still being cast and developed." He also responded to
the accusations of racial stereotyping. "While we are seeking to
chronicle a true story, it is not meant to be a stereotypical
representation of everyday life for any one demographic or cross section
of society...That said, we are highly attuned and sensitive to your
concerns and our diverse team of creative executives will continue their
involvement as the special is developed."

Klarman's email is unlikely to quiet the growing campaign against the
show and the network. Lamb, for her part, is making it her personal
mission to thwart Shawty Lo's debut. "I don't want him on TV," she says.
"He needs therapy and condoms, he doesn't need a TV show."

" Tyranny is defined as that which is legal for the government but illegal for the citizenry ." - Thomas Jefferson

The gun control lobby in this country has been on the ropes for years .
All across the nation, one legislative and judicial victory after
another on both the State and federal levels is notched in the belts of
those Americans supporting their 2nd Amendment Rights. From the US Supreme Court's double rulings in Heller and McDonald in support of every common, law-abiding citizen's individual right to keep and bear arms to the overwhelming victories
gun rights supporters won during the November 2010 midterm elections,
it seems that those in the gun control lobby just can't catch a break.
And yet, despite the pummeling that they are being dealt on every front,
these anti-gunners just can't seem to figure out why it is that they
have lost touch with the American public.

The Timeless Legacy Of The Gun Control Lobby
While the reasons for their inability to captivate their audience are
many, one of the primary factors involved in their fall from grace is
profoundly simple-- hypocrisy .
In one high-profile example after another, prominent gun control
advocates are caught preaching about the limitations that should be
imposed on the law-abiding, general public's right to own and carry guns
while being called out in embarrassing public revelations where they
are found to be personally practicing that which they are condemning.
While the do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do approach might be acceptable to
the gun control lobby's minority hoplophobe base, it is completely
unacceptable to the independent mind of the critical-thinking
individuals that form the collective body of the American public.
A perfect example of this phenomenon of gun control hypocrisy would be the recently introduced SB 610
in the California State Legislature. SB 610 would effectively make
concealed carry laws in California "shall-issue" for State and US
legislators and no one else. In response to the Tuscon tragedy, lawmakers all over the country are trying to pass legislation that would give them special treatment and protections that their constituents would not enjoy. Now, this trend has reached the Capitol in California. In this Los Angeles Times opinion piece ,
the author correctly calls out three Democrat State Senators who have
voted in support of gun control bills in the past but somehow manage to
believe that they should be afforded special rights to self-protection
that the people they serve apparently do not deserve. This is exactly
the type of thinking that would rub critical-thinking voters the wrong
way. If these California State Legislators want to afford themselves
concealed carry permits for self-protection, then the right approach
would be to introduce legislation to change the "may-issue" (which, in
practice amounts to will-not-issue-under-any-circumstances for the urban
areas of the State) CCW laws in California to "shall-issue", where
every common, law-abiding Californian who has not been adjudicated in a
court of law to be mentally ill must be granted a concealed carry permit
for the valid reason of lawful self-defense if he or she applies for
one and meets the standardized training criteria. This would allow
those politicians to protect both themselves and the constituents they
serve. The fact that these State politicians wish to create an
exclusive class of citizenry that holds them in higher regard than the
public masters who placed them in office is both hypocritical and runs
contrary to our country's Constitutional principles.
But then again, the thinking behind these anti-gun State politicians
should really come as no surprise. Theirs is a pattern that has a long
history in the annals of gun control lore. After all, it was only this
past Sunday that President Obama engaged in demonstrating this same double-standard regarding the national gun control issue. In his Op-Ed
in the Arizona Daily Star, the President calls for additional gun
control measures in the wake of the Tuscon tragedy while completely
ignoring the fact that his Administration is currently under heavy
attack for an international gun-running scandal headed by the BATFE
called "Project Gunrunner" that cost at least one US Border Patrol agent and a significant number of Mexican nationals their lives .
Meanwhile, stalwarts in the gun control lobby such as Dianne Feinstein have long felt very comfortable leading a political life of anti-gun hypocrisy . While she condemns gun ownership and Right-to-Carry
laws for common, law-abiding citizens across the country, she freely
admits to carrying a concealed handgun of her own for self-protection.
Apparently, the good Senator believes that while her own safety may be
at risk while under the death threats made by a terrorist organization,
the lives of her female constituents who have been threatened by former
boyfriends or stalkers don't deserve the same level of consideration in
regards to the right to self-defense that she does.
But Dianne Feinstein is hardly alone. North Carolina State Senator,
R. C. Soles, one of the most staunch gun control advocates in his
State's Legislature, actually went so far as to use his firearm in claimed self-defense
at his Tabor City house against two home intruders. Apparently,
Senator Soles believes that his right to own a gun for self-defense
supersedes those of his constituents who clearly do not deserve the
right to use their own lawfully-owned firearms for the exact same
purpose.
Or, even beyond the anti-gun politicians, the gun control lobby's
most prominent public figures, such as Rosie O'Donnell, have taken to
the pulpit with loud public statements decrying the private ownership of
firearms by common, law-abiding citizens. Yet, O'Donnell is perfectly
comfortable hiring a bodyguard who applied for a concealed carry permit
to protect her and her children. The funny thing is, when the front pages of Connecticut's The Advocate and Greenwich Time
called her out on the carpet for this double standard, her spokeswoman
at the time, Jennifer Glaisek, could do nothing other than attempt to
dance around the issue. One can only logically draw one conclusion from
O'Donnell's actions. Apparently, Rosie O'Donnell and her children's
lives are worth more than the average, law-abiding citizen's in this
country. She and her children deserve 2nd Amendment protections that
the rest of the American people clearly do not.
So, as the reader can clearly see, the shattered state of the gun
control lobby is really no one's fault but their own. When the anti-gun
movement's leaders cannot even manage to practice what they preach, how
can they expect those in the general public to lend their cause any
credibility? What the gun control lobby doesn't seem to understand is
actually profoundly simple. Americans in general are an independent,
critical-thinking group of self-actualized individuals who believe in
the time-honored concept of leadership by example. We generally pay
attention to, and are willing to entertain the musings of those who are,
on the most basic level, able to walk their own talk. Such was the
case with our nation's Founders, who believed in the cause of freedom so
much that they effectively inspired our fellow countrymen to their
cause by signing their own death warrants in boldly placing their names
on the Declaration of Independence. Theirs was the standard of politics
and, more importantly, statesmanship, that all future generations of
American leaders would be judged against. And when it comes to the
those who would consider themselves leaders in the gun control lobby, it
is blatantly obvious that they fall glaringly short of this proud
American standard.

A woman charged with trying to swindle donors by posing as a relative of a child killed in the Connecticut school massacre had also been soliciting money for Hurricane Sandy relief.
Nouel Alba
was arrested Thursday and accused of concocting bogus tales about
having to identify her nephew's body in order to raise money for a
"funeral fund" for the victims.
The New York Post reports (http://bit.ly/UyyRTk ) that in the days after Sandy struck, Alba also posted Web messages claiming she had founded several charities to assist storm victims.

But the postings were filled with false claims, as well as an invalid tax-ID number for one organization.

In an interview with CNN before her arrest, Alba denied being involved in any scam.

Long time Anti-Gun Advocate State Senator R.C. Soles, 74, shot one of
two intruders at his home just outside Tabor City , N.C. about 5 p.m.
Sunday Jan. 7 2010, the prosecutor for the politician's home county said.

The intruder, Kyle Blackburn, was taken to a South Carolina hospital,
but the injuries were not reported to be life-threatening, according to
Rex Gore, district attorney for Columbus, Bladen
andBrunswick counties..

The State Bureau of Investigation and Columbus County Sheriff's
Department are investigating the shooting, Gore said. Soles, who was
not arrested, declined to discuss the incident Sunday evening.

"I am not in a position to talk to you," Soles said by telephone. "I'm
right in the middle of an investigation."

The Senator, who has made a career of being against gun ownership for
the general public, didn't hesitate to defend himself with his own gun
when he believed he was in immediate danger and he was the victim.

In typical hypocritical liberal fashion, the "Do as i say and not as i do"
Anti-Gun Activist Lawmaker picked up his gun and took action in what
apparently was a self-defense shooting. Why hypocritical you may ask?
It is because his long legislative record shows that the actions that he
took to protect his family, his own response to a dangerous life
threatening situation, are actions that he feels ordinary citizens should
not have if they were faced with an identical situation.

It has prompted some to ask if the Senator believes his life and personal
safety is more valuable than yours or mine.
But, this is to be expected from those who believe they can run our
lives, raise our kids, and protect our families better than we can.On December 30, 2009, Soles (at the time, the longest-serving legislator
in the state) announced he would not seek re-election in 2010. This
came after an August, 2009 incident in which he shot a young man and
former legal client in the leg who was allegedly trying to kick in
Soles' front door. In another incident, Soles pepper sprayed
a young man. Soles' lawyer, Joseph Cheshire, said the shooting was
self-defense. Cheshire and Soles have said that Soles has been generous
to former clients in hoping to ease them back to a law-abiding life.
Soles has denied having sexual relations with any of the young men Soles was indicted on charges of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury on 7 January 2010. Soles pleaded guilty in 2010 to assault with a deadly weapon and was fined $1,000.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say a store was looted by 40 to 60 people and at least one suspect was captured.

According to an arrest report, officers were called to a store on St. Andrews Church Road, near the corner of Blanton Lane, at 1 a.m. Wednesday, after someone reported that a "large group" of intoxicated people were "looting" the store.

When police arrived, they allegedly witnessed 40 to 60 people inside the store, stealing items, then running from the location.

Police say they found one of those people -- 19-year-old Deon A. Cardwell -- standing outside the store, drinking an alcoholic beverage.

The store clerk allegedly told police that Cardwell had stolen the beverage. Police say Cardwell admitted to stealing the drink, as well as other merchandise valued at $18.77.

He then allegedly began yelling at police, telling them that he stole the merchandise, "so what?" Police say he also threw a can of Red Bull at an officer and tried to run away.

When police captured Cardwell, they noticed he had bloodshot eyes, slurred speech and had trouble standing up, according to the arrest report. He also allegedly admitted to drinking at an "underage party" across the street before coming to the store.

Cardwell was arrested and charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, theft and misrepresenting his age to obtain alcohol, according to the arrest report.

Worst Mass Murders In U.S. History

With the recent explosion of coverage on shootings and potential shootings, one would come to the conclusion that the worst mass murder ever committed was with a gun. Some media outlets report the Virginia Tech massacare as one of the deadliest in American history:

"the Virginia Tech massacre of 2007, the worst mass murder in U.S. history at that time"

"The Newtown, Conn., shootings , with 28 dead, exceeded the 1991 Luby's massacre in Killeen to become the second deadliest mass murder in US history"

The media's chance to pass propaganda off as truth has become sickening especially during these last few days(like their inate ability to differentiate from an assault rifle and a machine gun). These people would have you believe that guns are the problem and not the person who made the decision to do these things. Yes we know guns are the main choice in most mass murders in America , killers in countries where civilians tend to be armed show a slight preference for guns. Swiss and American murderers use guns simply because they're around. South Korean, Chinese and British murderers don't have guns freely available, so they use knives. People are going to kill whether that be with a gun, a knife, a bomb, or fire. Not counting the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the top three worst mass murders were accomplished w/o the use of a gun. Counting 9/11 the top 2 out of 5 mass murders were committed using airplanes

9/11/2001: 2998 weapon of choice: airliner

4/19/1995: 168 weapon of choice: explosives

3/ 25/1990: 87 weapon of choice: a match and two cans of gas

5/18/1927: 45 weapon of choice explosives

12/7/1987: 43 weapon of choice: airliner

Guns arent the problem its society and how we deal with these potential killers. Also how the media deals with and portrays these shooters should be addressed to. Most of these shooters are people who were weidros or social outcast. In the medias quest for ratings and viewers, they give these shooters the attention they seek and possibly encouraging others to be like the Lanzas and Loughners of American history. Here is a test for just how much attention shooters and killers like these recieve. Are you ready? OK Here is the challenge: Name one victim from the VT massacares off the top of your head(No Google, No Wiki) or name two people from the Columbine shooting not named Eric or Dylan.

RIP to all the vitcims involved in these tragic, senseless acts of violence and desperation.

There have been a few vids posted recently that include Randi exposing frauds. I went on a Youtube video spree and found many interesting vids about Mr. Randi. I came across this vid in which he gives his thoughts about 9/11 and conspiracy theorist and decided to share.

James Randi (born Randall James Hamilton Zwinge ; August 7, 1928) is a Canadian-American stage magician and scientific skeptic best known for his challenges to paranormal claims and pseudoscience . Randi is the founder of the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF). Randi began his career as a magician named The Amazing Randi , but after retiring at age 60, he was able to devote most of his time to investigating paranormal, occult , and supernatural claims, which he collectively calls "woo-woo".

Although often referred to as a " debunker ", Randi dislikes the term's connotations and prefers to describe himself as an "investigator". He has written about the paranormal, skepticism , and the history of magic. He was a frequent guest on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and was occasionally featured on the television program Penn & Teller: Bullshit!. The JREF sponsors The One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge offering a prize of US$1,000,000 to eligible applicants who can demonstrate evidence of any paranormal , supernatural or occult power or event under test conditions agreed to by both parties.

The Newberry County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) and the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) will again have a curfew for Newberry County Registered Sex Offenders and offenders under its supervision for a sex offense.

"The Halloween curfew has worked well in the past to provide peace of mind to the public. We want parents to know that there is an extra measure of protection when their children go Trick-or-Treating, said Sheriff Foster.

Newberry County Sex Offenders Halloween Rules
o Curfew: 5:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. statewide on Halloween day.
o This applies to all persons who are monitored under the Newberry County Sex Offender Registry as well as those under supervision for a sex offense. For those who are not currently under supervision, but are monitored, this is used only as a means of ensuring the public's peace of mind as well as minimizing unnecessary issues for offenders.
o Curfew will be enforced through law enforcement officer surveillance techniques throughout Newberry County.
o Sex offenders are being notified that there will be no lights on outside their houses; no candy distribution; no participating in Halloween parties or carnivals.
o Registered sex offenders in some counties will have to report to a designated location for the duration of the curfew. They will be notified by their Probation/Parole Agents.

For information regarding sex offenders in your neighborhood, you can check the State Law Enforcement Division web site: ( http://services.sled.sc.gov/sor/ ).

Additional Tips for Parents on Halloween
1. Wear reflective or light-colored clothing and stay with adults.
2. Only go to houses of people you know and stay with groups whenever possible.
3. Children can enjoy Trick-or-Treating as long as they are with a responsible adult.
For more information, contact Lt. Tony Eigner, Newberry County Sex Offender Registrar, at (803) 321-2222.

9/11 conspiracism is dragging activists away from the real issues

By George Monbiot. Published in the Guardian 6th February 2007

There is a virus sweeping the world. It infects opponents of the Bush government, sucks their brains out through their eyes and turns them into gibbering idiots. First cultivated in a laboratory in the United States, the strain reached these shores a few months ago. In the past fortnight it has become an epidemic. Scarcely a day now passes without someone possessed by this sickness, eyes rolling, lips flecked with foam, trying to infect me.

The disease is called Loose Change. It is a film made by three young men which airs most of the standard conspiracy theories about the attacks of September 11 2001. Unlike the other 9/11 conspiracy films, Loose Change is sharp and swift, with a thumping soundtrack, slick graphics and a calm and authoritative voiceover. Its makers claim that it has now been watched by 100 million people.

The Pentagon, the film maintains, was not hit by a commercial airliner. There was "no discernable trace" of a plane found in the wreckage, and the entrance and exit holes in the building were far too small. It was hit by a Cruise missile. The twin towers were brought down by means of "a carefully planned controlled demolition". You can see the small puffs of smoke caused by explosives just below the cascading sections. All other hypotheses are implausible: the fire was not hot enough to melt steel and the towers fell too quickly. Building 7 was destroyed by the same means a few hours later.

Flight 93 did not crash, but was redirected to Cleveland Airport, where the passengers were taken into a NASA building and never seen again. Their voices had been cloned by the Los Alamos laboratories and used to make fake calls to their relatives. The footage of Osama Bin Laden, claiming responsibility for the attacks, was faked. The US government carried out this great crime for four reasons: to help Larry Silverstein, who leased the towers, to collect his insurance money; to assist insider traders betting on falling airline stocks; to steal the gold in the basement; and to grant George Bush new executive powers, so that he could carry out his plans for world domination.

Even if you have seen or read no other accounts of 9/11, and your brain has not yet been liquidised, a few problems must occur to you. The first is the complete absence of scientific advice. At one point the presenter asks "So what brought down the Twin Towers? Let's ask the experts." But they don't ask the experts. The film makers take some old quotes, edit them to remove any contradictions, then denounce all subsequent retractions as further evidence of conspiracy.

The only people they interview are a janitor, a group of firemen and a flight instructor. They let the janitor speak at length, but cut the firemen off in mid-sentence. The flight instructor speaks in short clips, which give the impression that his pupil, the hijacker Hani Hanjour, was incapable of hitting the Pentagon. Elsewhere he has said the opposite: he had "no doubt" that Hanjour could have done it(1).

Where are the structural engineers, the materials scientists, the specialists in ballistics, explosives or fire? The film makers now say that the third edition of the film will be fact-checked by an expert, but he turns out to be "a theology professor"(2). They don't name him, but I would bet that it's David Ray Griffin, who also happens to be the high priest of the 9/11 conspiracists.

The next evident flaw is that the plot they propose must have involved tens of thousands of people. It could not have been executed without the help of demolition experts, the security firms guarding the World Trade Centre, Mayor Giuliani (who hastily disposed of the remains), much of the US Air Force, the Federal Aviation Administration and the North American Aerospace Defense Command, the relatives of the people "killed" in the plane crashes, the rest of the Pentagon's staff, the Los Alamos laboratories, the FBI, the CIA and the investigators who picked through the rubble.

If there is one universal American characteristic it is a confessional culture which permits no one with a good story to keep his mouth shut. People appear on the Jerry Springer Show to admit to carnal relations with their tractors. Yet none of the participants in this monumental crime has sought to blow the whistle - before, during or after the attacks. No one has volunteered to tell the greatest story ever told.

Read some conflicting accounts, and Loose Change's case crumbles faster than the Twin Towers. Hundreds of people saw a plane hit the Pentagon. Because it collided with one of the world's best- defended buildings at full speed, the plane was pulverised: even so, both plane parts and body parts were in fact recovered. The wings and tail disintegrated when they hit the wall, which is why the holes weren't bigger(3).

The failure of the Twin Towers has been exhaustively documented by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Far from being impossible, the collapse turns out to have been inevitable. The planes cut some of the support columns and ignited fires sufficient to weaken (but not melt) the remaining steel structures. As the perimeter columns buckled, the weight of the collapsing top stories generated a momentum the rest of the building could not arrest. Puffs of smoke were blown out of the structure by compression as the building fell(4).

Counterpunch, the radical leftwing magazine, commissioned its own expert - an aerospace and mechanical engineer - to test the official findings(5). He shows that the institute must have been right. He also demonstrates how Building 7 collapsed. Burning debris falling from the twin towers ruptured the oil pipes feeding its emergency generators. The reduction in pressure triggered the automatic pumping system, which poured thousands of gallons of diesel onto the fire. The support trusses weakened and buckled and the building imploded(6). Popular Mechanics magazine polled 300 experts and came to the same conclusions(7).

So the critics - even Counterpunch - are labelled co-conspirators, and the plot expands until it comes to involve a substantial part of the world's population. There is no reasoning with this madness.

People believe Loose Change because it proposes a closed world: comprehensible, controllable, small. Despite the great evil which runs it, it is more companionable than the chaos which really governs our lives, a world without destination or purpose. This neat story draws campaigners away from real issues - global warming, the Iraq war, nuclear weapons, privatisation, inequality - while permanently wrecking their credibility. Bush did capitalise on the attacks, and he did follow a pre-existing agenda, spelt out, as Loose Change says, by the Project for a New American Century. But by drowning this truth in an ocean of nonsense, the conspiracists ensure that it can never again be taken seriously.

The film's greatest flaw is this: the men who made it are still alive. If the US government is running an all-knowing, all-encompassing conspiracy, why did it not snuff them out long ago? There is only one possible explanation. They are in fact agents of the Bush regime, employed to distract people from its real abuses of power. This, if you are inclined to believe such stories, is surely a more plausible theory than the one proposed in Loose Change.

9/11 Truther Convinced Government Destroyed Past 11 Years Of His Life

PROVIDENCE, RI-Citing "overwhelming evidence," 9/11 Truth movement adherent Dennis E. Shaw, 53, told reporters Tuesday that he believes the U.S. government has orchestrated a secret, intricate plot to systematically destroy his entire life over the past 11 years.

Shaw, who since 2001 has lost his job, seen his marriage end, and, according to friends, completely alienated himself from mainstream society, argued that there are "serious reasons to doubt" the commonly accepted explanation that his slide into reclusion and paranoia was his own fault.

"The official story is all too familiar," said Shaw, a self-identified 9/11 Truther who hands out pamphlets at Kennedy Plaza from 2 to 6 p.m. every day. "On Sept. 11, 2001, terrorists crashed three planes into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. Then, over the ensuing months and years, my obsession with the truth behind those events supposedly led to the gradual collapse of my personal and professional life. But this convenient little narrative requires us to believe a series of highly improbable coincidences."

"Open your eyes, and you'll see the puppet masters' fingerprints are all over my pathetic, seemingly self-destructive existence," he added.

Pointing to a detailed timeline scrawled on poster board affixed to the wall of a studio apartment cluttered with 9/11 paraphernalia, Shaw reviewed the events that, he believes, "happened too perfectly to be anything but the intentional, controlled demolition of life."

"In January 2004, my wife said she wished I spent more time with her instead of on Internet Truther forums, yet somehow, in April of that very same year she complained that it was 'becoming unbearable to be around me,'" he said, showing reporters a day-by-day account of the couple's failed relationship. "It simply doesn't add up that Melissa would say she wanted to be with me both more often and less often -unless, that is, an outside party like the U.S. government wanted her to say it."

"Meanwhile-and this is where it really gets interesting-on four separate occasions in 2002 I recorded my mother saying she thought my research was 'interesting' and 'worth thinking about,'" continued the man, who confirmed he has watched the film series Loose Change seven or eight times in the past week. "How was it, then, that by November of the following year she was calling it 'crazy' and 'sad,' a complete reversal of her original stance?"

Shaw went on to present a chart showing the "suspiciously" rapid disintegration of his friendships since 2001, noting the disparity between the 258 social interactions he shared with his best friend, Stephen Danforth, in the years before 2001 and the mere 17 interactions they've had since then, a decline Shaw said "can't be explained by pure, random chance."

Recently, the 53-year-old created a website dedicated to "uncovering what really happened to Dennis E. Shaw's life," in which he posits the existence of a shadowy government conspiracy whose sole purpose is to engineer his downfall.

"Everyone's in on it-Bush, Cheney, Bernanke, Israel, and now Obama," said Shaw, claiming that an entire life and career "couldn't just collapse like this all on its own." "Not a single one of them has ever come forward to deny their involvement in the destruction of my life."

Even ignoring the rest of the evidence, Shaw remarked, the fact that he lost his job as a reporter for The Providence Journal mere weeks after writing articles in which he described 9/11 as an inside job was, in itself, "a smoking gun in Uncle Sam's hand."

"On the evening of October 28, 2005, I handed in an article exposing Bush and Cheney's cover-up of the real 9/11 Commission report. Well, what a surprise that the very next morning I was fired from my job by my editor, a man I have reason to believe has connections to the FBI, the CIA and, yes, Dick Cheney," said Shaw, whose former employer cited "repeated breaches of journalistic integrity" and "erratic behavior" as the reason for Shaw's dismissal. "Fast-forward three years and my rent has shot up, my credit score has dropped, and Melissa is no longer taking my calls. You think that was all some kind of magical coincidence? Think again."

Smoking cigarette after cigarette, Shaw then proceeded to show reporters a homemade videotape he shot of his ex-wife returning to his apartment to pick up her toaster, rewinding the tape over and over again to spot what he believed could be "government surveillance devices" concealed in her clothing.
