Al Qaeda hordes in dire straits as Syrian Defense Forces advance in Al Qusair

From Syria Defense twitters:

"The fall of the armed opposition defense lines east and in the southern city of Quseir"

"Syrian Army re-control over large-scale in al-Qusair city of Homs after severe clashes with the opposition fighters."

"Our heroes the Syrian Arab Army in the main square in Qasier"

"Quseir - Dozens of gunmen surrendered to the army units in the city"

"The Syrian Army has smashed the main communications and operations center for terrorists in al-Qaseir"

*********************************************From SyAF facebook:

"Syrian Arab Army officials have reported that Qusayr HQ has been captured and the terrorists are routing. The situation is developing by the hour. The bombing campaign continues to this very minute and will not end even if the rubble must be turned to dust in order for Qusayr to be a secure area."

"Families of Lebanese terrorist organisations that are clustered around Qusayr in Homs are advised to flee within the next 12 hours before the window of attack closes. The Syrian air force and missile forces along with heavy artillery is prepared to destroy most of the area of the city.
The town has been leafleted several times and though there has been some exodus, some Lebanese terrorists remain adamant not to allow their families to leave.
Syria has made a very hard choice, in light of the unforgivable acts of savagery in Homs, including cannibalism. It was clear to the leadership that the fighters there will not surrender and cannot reform. Therefor it was decided to burn the ground beneath their feet with the army's ultimate conventional weapon capacity.
The Syrian Air Force page will keep readers up to date on hourly developments as this battle begins."
*********************************************

"Syrian Army advanced towards the Northern district in Al Qseir, a stronghold of the most important and the largest and last rat hole"

"Syria'n army sources claim killing of Sheik Ahmad Assir from Lebanon Tripoli in battle of Qusayr."

=====================================

From Al Qaeda twitters:
"Pray for Qusair, it's being invaded by the regime army right now."

"I'm afraid that Homs is falling apart!! we've lost a lot and we've suffered a lot!! It's worse than you think it is! I can't explain more!!"

"Hello there, I just want to tell you that gates of hell are opened in Homs right now! Hysterical bombardment and deadly clashes everywhere."

"Terrorist 1: For months we said Alqusair Homs needed help..nothing..now, like a thriller nearing the end..massacre..everyone is suddenly interested.
Terrorist 2: I hope the other FSA battalions are trying taking this seriously.
Terrorist 1: They're not."
"Homs: Fierce clashes are taking place at the orchards of Homs-Tripoli road now."

"A disaster for Syrian rebels is in the making. Hezbollah and regime forces are storming al Qusayr since the early morning."

On Jan.25th, 2005 six firefighters of the NYFD were forced to jump from the 4th floor of a burning apt. building to the concrete below. Illegally constructed drywall partitions, built by the landlord and two tenants, were to blame for this. Two of the firefighters died on impact, one would land on his feet and break every bone in his body from the waist down. He would die years later. Only one of the six would ever return to work. This is the harrowing audio transcript of that very sad Sunday.

The Other 98%, a group loosely associated with Occupy Wall Street, is trying to raise enough cash to outbid Rupert Murdoch and the Koch brothers in their efforts to buy the Tribune Company, owner of the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune and The Baltimore Sun, among other newspapers.

Yes, these pro-democracy activists are calling for a "people's peaceful takeover" of what appears to be all of the company's media assets, including commuter tabloids and 23 television stations. According to the Tribune Company's website, its television operations reach 80 percent of households with a TV.

As would be expected, the only people who appear to have a serious interest in buying the company are right-wing billionaires. Murdoch, the founder of Fox News, is in competition with the Koch brothers, the men who bankrolled the tea party and Citizens United, the 2010 Supreme Court ruling that enabled corporations to make unlimited campaign contributions. Bids are reported to be in the realm of $660 million.

If 30 million Americans donated just $22, The Other 98% could match that amount. However, as the young woman in the video below says, some Americans, including celebrities who profess to have liberal politics, are capable of donating many times that. By the time of this posting, at least one person had pledged $10,000.

Are these activists "tilting at corporate windmills"? We'll know in 30 days, when the fundraising period is over. Regardless of the outcome, they're to be commended for making a bold and creative populist effort in the name of democracy, as is any American who joins them.

Detroit Plan for All-Black Hotel and Entertainment Complex on site of Tiger Stadium

Tiger Stadium was once the crown jewel of Detroit's major league baseball team the Detroit Tigers. Built in 1911 to accommodate 23,000 fans the stadium was expanded several times until 1937 by which it could house 52,500 fans.

The stadium was declared a State of Michigan Historic Site in 1975 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989. The stadium was abandoned on September 27th 1999 after a stunning last game 8-2 grand slam victory for the Detroit Tigers over the Kansas City Royals. Despite long term conservation efforts by remaining fans and historic groups the stadium was fully demolished in September 2009 with the revenue generated from the stadium's scrap metal paying the demolition bill.

Now an ambitious Detroit businessman thinks he has a bombshell idea for transforming the empty lot where Old Tiger Stadium used to be.

Francois DeMonique told WWJ City Beat Reporter Vickie Thomas he wants to see the site at Michigan Avenue and Trumbull transformed into an all African American hotel and entertainment complex.

"I love this city and I believe in this city. I've put a lot of effort into it and my company, which is Urban Caf'e Corporation, we are dedicated to being a part of the new face of Detroit. This may be just the first African-American development built from the ground up," he said.

DeMonique's vision for Urban Caf'e Detroit is one where visitors can stay in a hotel, attend a live concert, have a first-class dinner and dance the night away all under one roof without having to drive to separate destinations.

"We're anticipating the Old Tiger Stadium site, but there are other options and sites that we are currently in negotiation with, private enterprises and private owners," he said.

The look of the building would be aesthetically pleasing, DeMonique said, with a streamlined, avant-garde look that will instantly raise the profile of the area in which it is built. He said the facility will influence the city's skyline and "lift the spirits of Detroit's residents and visitors."

DeMonique, who's been working on the project since 2009, said the complex would focus on "celebrating the positives of many nations around the world" from the perspectives of art, dance, music, cuisines and the other aspects. He described the venue as being "the place to be for locals and a must-see establishment for tourists."

The hotel will be the jewel of the complex, DeMonique said, featuring its own 200-seat upscale restaurant, full-service bar, candy store, exercise room, spa, hair salon anda business center. The third through seventh floors will have 20 suites per floor, each featuring a theme-specific decor designed around the unique cultures of various African countries. DeMonique said the designs and concepts will cover all 100 suites, showcasing different countries of Africa and the Caribbean.

The complex will also feature a multi-purpose theater with 1,500 seats, which can be used for conventions, weddings, concerts, graduations and proms, among other things. The venue's central restaurant will be theme-based with 500 seats. DeMonique said the food will be mostly all-American bistro with a "Rain Forest Caf'e" vibe.

DeMonique, who was born in West Africa, said he regards the venture as an effort to reach out to an entire community by sharing African-American culture, cuisines and other heritages in all their variety. Although the complex will be urban focused, DeMonique said patrons of all backgrounds will be welcomed and embraced.

Urban Caf'e Detroit is projected to draw a quarter of a million patrons annually for the first five years of operation, DeMonique said.

The project has a price tag of $75 million to $100 million.

178,000 CHILDREN 'UNPAID CARERS'

Fucking shocking

Nearly 10,000 children aged five to seven are providing unpaid care for their family members or guardians, according to census figures.

The statistics show that a total of 177,918 minors are carers for their loved ones, with 15,728 providing more than 50 hours of care a week and 19,422 between 20 and 49 hours.

The figures, compiled from the 2011 Census, indicate that of the 9,985 five to seven-year-olds providing care, 1,642 are doing so for more than 50 hours a week, with 1,166 for between 20 and 49 hours.

In the eight to nine-year-old age bracket, 12,148 children are giving care, 1,520 for more than 50 hours a week, and 1,204 for between 20 and 49 hours. But it is the youngsters aged 10 to 14 who make up the largest group of care providers, with 72,266 providing unpaid care.

The figures released on Thursday show that 23,848 children who were aged 15 at the time of the 2011 Census were providing unpaid care, 1,763 for more than 50 hours a week and 2,489 for between 20 and 49 hours.

Meanwhile 59,671 of those aged 16 to 17 were carers, 4,842 for more than 50 hours a week and 7,520 for between 20 and 49 hours. The statistics also found that 65,615 18 and 19-year-olds were recorded as carers in 2011. No children below the age of five were listed as being carers.

The statistics, which relate to England and Wales, also indicate the level of health of the child carers. They show that 2,419 under 18s had "bad or very bad health" while 9,931 said it was "fair". The rest had "very good or good health ".

The figures show that more girls than boys are carers. A total of 95,250 were female while 82,668 were male. The Census found that 4,730 boys aged five to seven were carers, 817 of them providing 50 or more hours a week of care. Meanwhile 38,704 15 to 17-year-old males acted as carers for at least one hour a week.

A Department for Education spokeswoman said: "We know young carers need more help and we are supporting local authorities to do much more for these dedicated young people. We recently announced that young carers will be involved in the training of school nurses, so they know exactly what support they should offer and can champion their needs.

"We have also created a specific training guide for teachers to help them to better identify and support young carers - and funded the Children's Society and Carers Trust to support social services to adopt 'whole family' approaches to support young carers."

Cops Beat Man Who Begged For His Life To Death, Then Seize Video Evidence Of The Crime

The 19-year-old jumped from his living room sofa and hurried to the
kitchen door, which offered a view of the violent scene outside - Kern
County sheriff's deputies repeatedly striking a man in the head with
batons as he lay on the pavement.

"I saw two sheriff's deputies
on top of this guy, just beating him," Ceballos said in an interview
Monday. "He was screaming in pain ... asking for help. He was incapable
of fighting back - he was outnumbered, on the ground. They just beat him
up."

The man was David Sal Silva, 33, a father of four, and he
was pronounced dead less than an hour later. The altercation last week
was videotaped by witnesses and has roiled the Central Valley city for
days.

One woman frantically called 911, telling the operator:
"The guy was laying on the floor and eight sheriffs ran up and started
beating him up with sticks. The man is dead laying right here, right
now. I got it all on video camera and I'm sending it to the news. These
cops have no reason to do this to this man."

In an unusual move,
sheriff's officials later detained for several hours two witnesses who
had videotaped the incident on their phones. They were released only
after they surrendered their phones to deputies.

"It makes it
look like a coverup," said David Cohn, a lawyer for Silva's children and
parents, adding that he has not been able to see the footage. "What
we're all concerned about is, 'Are these videos going to be altered? Are
they going to be deleted?' "

Kern County Sheriff Donny
Youngblood said in an interview Monday that it was too early in the
investigation to reach any conclusions about Silva's death. But he
defended the decision to take custody of the phones as a way of
preserving possible evidence. The sheriff said his office obtained a
search warrant for the phones.

"We still have to secure the
evidence, especially when the evidence can tell us whether we did it
right or wrong," Youngblood said.

He said his agency, to remove
the appearance of any conflict, has asked the Bakersfield Police
Department to analyze the phone videos.

KERO-TV Channel 23 in
Bakersfield broadcast a security camera video from the scene showing
grainy images of figures pummeling someone on the ground, with about 20
swings of what appear to be batons or sticks. It's difficult to see

How Syria's Violence all Began

In February 2011 some anti-government demonstrations began. They were met in March with even larger pro-government demonstrations. In early March some teenagers in Daraa were arrested for graffiti that had been copied from North Africa "the people want to overthrow the regime'. It was reported that they were abused by local police. Time magazine reported that President Assad intervened, the local governor was sacked and the teenagers were released.
What followed is highly contested. The western media version is that protestors burned and trashed government offices and that "provincial security forces opened fire on marchers, killing several' (Time, 22 March). After that, "protestors' staged demonstrations in front of the al-Omari mosque, but were in turn attacked. The western media exaggerated the demonstrations, claiming crowds of up to 300,000, with 15 anti-government "protesters' killed (AP 23 March). Daraa is a border town with 150,000 inhabitants.
The Syrian government, on the other hand, stated that armed attacks had begun on security forces, killing several police, along with the burning of government offices. There was corroboration of this account. While its headline blamed security forces for killing "protesters', the British Daily Mail showed pictures of guns, AK47 rifles and hand grenades that security forces had recovered after storming the al-Omari mosque. The paper noted reports that "an armed gang' had opened fire on an ambulance, killing "a doctor, a paramedic and a policeman'.
Israeli and Lebanese media gave versions of the events of 17-18 March closer to that of the Syrian government. An Israel National News report (21 March) said "Seven police officers and at least four demonstrators in Syria have been killed " and the Baath party headquarters and courthouse were torched'. The police had been targeted by rooftop snipers.
Al Jazeera (29 April), owned by Qatar's royal family, implied the rooftop snipers in Daraa were government forces. "President Bashar al Assad has sent thousands of Syrian soldiers and their heavy weaponry into Derra for an operation the regime wants nobody in the word to see'. However the Al Jazeera claim that secret police snipers were killing "soldiers and protestors alike' was both illogical and out of sequence.
The armed forces came to Daraa precisely because police had been killed by snipers. Once in Daraa they engaged in more gun-fire and stormed the local mosque to seize the guns and grenades storied by "protesters'. Michel Chossudovsky wrote: "The deployment of armed forces including tanks in Daraa directed against an organised armed insurrection, which has been active in the border city since March 17-18.'
Saudi Arabia, a key US regional ally, had armed and funded extremist Sunni sects (Salafists and Wahabis) to move against the secular government. From exile in Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Adnan Arour called for a holy war against the liberal Allawi muslims, who dominated the government: "by Allah we shall mince them in meat grinders and feed their flesh to the dogs'. The Salafist aim was a theocratic sate or "caliphate'. Sheikh Muhammed al Zughbey said the Alawites were "more infidel than the Jews and the Christians'. The original North African slogan was rapidly replaced by a Salafist slogan "Christians to Beirut, Alawites to the grave'. They would soon act on these threats.
Saudi official Anwar Al-Eshki later confirmed to BBC television that arms had indeed been provided to groups within Syria, and they had stored them in the al-Omari mosque.
While the Syrian Baathist system has been authoritarian, is has also been secular and inclusive. The Saudi-Qatari and US-NATO backed armed insurgency aims to derail the reform program led by President Bashar al-Assad. If a more compliant government cannot be formed in Damascus, the big powers will probably settle for a country mired in sectarian chaos. That is, after all, what we see across the border in Iraq.

Parking meter 'Robin Hoods' provoke New Hampshire city's ire

LITTLETON (New Hampshire, US): In December James Cleaveland made an unusual New Year's resolution: to do all he could to keep police in the city of Keene, New Hampshire, from issuing parking tickets.

Cleaveland and a group of friends took to the streets with pocketfuls of change and began shadowing the city's three parking enforcement officers, stuffing coins in expired meters before they could issue $5 tickets.

They call their practice "Robin Hooding," and in just over four months, the group claims to have spared motorists more than 2,000 tickets in the city of some 23,000.

"It's my philosophy," said Cleaveland, 26, a member of a group called Free Keene, which subscribes to the libertarian principle of smaller government.

"I could go talk to the city council at every meeting but to me, actions speak louder than words. I can go out and try to save people and reduce the number of tickets."

The southern New Hampshire city's government does not share Cleaveland's view. This month it filed suit in state court against him and five others seeking a restraining order to keep them at least 50 feet from parking enforcement officers.

The suit accuses Cleaveland and five others of videotaping, taunting and intimidating its parking meter personnel.

The alleged behavior includes chasing officers on bicycles, shouting insults and accusing them of stealing people's money. One officer became so stressed that he complained of heart palpitations and began having nightmares about the group, according to court papers.

"It's affecting the employees and it's taking a lot of time and energy to deal with it, and so the city's intent was to try to establish some clear boundaries and a little breathing room," said James Duffy, a member of the Keene City Council.

"We're not saying you can't complain about the meters or plug them, it's just how that's done."

Cleaveland has vowed to continue. He said he knows each parking attendant by name.

"I don't follow them home or try to find them off duty," he said. "They always use the excuse 'I'm just doing my job.' I always say 'I'm just doing my activity too.'"

Calling card

The Free Keene movement is part of the Free State Project, a group that has sought to get 20,000 libertarians to settle in New Hampshire, a state already known for its limited government and which has no sales or income tax.

The Keene chapter's prior actions included publicly smoking marijuana in the city's central square to protest drug laws, and holding a protest against gun restrictions that featured a half-nude woman armed with a holstered handgun walking through downtown.

Cleaveland's compatriot Garrett Ean, 24, said he feeds meters up to five days a week in three- to four-hour shifts during the 8am to 5pm period when motorists must pay to park downtown.

He said he spends less than $15 a day since some of Keene's meters cost as little as 10 cents for 30 minutes of parking.

Like Cleaveland, he leaves a card on the windshield of each "saved" car that says: "Your Meter Expired! However we saved you from the king's tariff! - Robin Hood & The Merry Men."

The card leaves an address for an activists' center and encourages motorists to send a donation.

The group sometimes receives handwritten thank-you notes in addition to donations, which are sometimes enough not only to cover the costs of feeding meters but also to allow the group to pay the activists a small amount, said Cleaveland.

City councilor Duffy said the city, home to Keene State College, is a progressive community whose tolerance is sometimes stretched by the group's scrutiny of even the most minor actions of local government. "In many ways this is a progressive community and also a tolerant one, but it's been going on long enough," he said. "This won't be the last issue."

Football Coach Attacks Opposing Running Back, Gets Suspended for the Season

Apparently, Lincoln Haymakers coach Dave Brumagen subscribes to the Woody Hayes philosophy of coaching football.

Hayes, of course, is the legendary Ohio State coach who led the
Buckeyes to five National Championships and 13 Big Ten titles, then got
fired tout de suite after he hit an opposing player in plain view
of the TV cameras at the 1978 Gator Bowl. And obviously, I say that
Brugmen must be a follower of his because now he, too, has gotten into
hot water over an on-field assault of an opposing player.
Of course, the Champions Professional Indoor Football League isn't exactly the Big Ten, but it's not the LFL, either.

The incident in question happened at a recent game between the Lincoln Haymakers and Omaha Beef. After Beef running back R.J. Rollins
scored what would turn out to be the game-winning touchdown in a 27-23
win for his team, the guy got tackled at mid-field by Brumagen, the
Haymakers coach.

As you would expect, a little skirmish involving players from both teams followed Brumagen's tackle. Have a look for yourself:

All in all, two players from each team were ejected from the game, though, for some reason the Haymakers coach was not.

Afterward, however, the CPIFL took serious action. Six players were
suspended for either one or two games, and Brumagen received a
season-long suspension and a $500 fine.
That may not seem like much, but when you only make $10,000 a year plus tips, a $500 fine is huge.
