It emerged during this scandal that some of the girls involved had made complaints to the police about what was being done to them (being gang-raped, sexually tortured and coerced into prostitution) and the police did nothing. Social workers also knew what was going on and did nothing. The police and social workers have since apologised for failing to take action. But there's another group that should be hanging their heads in shame today: journalists. The Muslim rape gangs were known about in the affected areas long before the story broke in the national press. It was headline news in local papers in places like Yorkshire. Indeed, some of the newspapers were running campaigns demanding that police prosecute these crimes! It is standard practice for the major news outlets in London to scan the regional newspapers to see if there are any stories worth picking up. So they must have known about these goings-on, and chosen not to report them, for about a decade before the story finally surfaced after it could no longer be repressed. Britain's journalists, social workers and police should be in the dock alongside the Muslim rapists. But they won't be. And now that their favourite perpetrators have been exposed and convicted, they are running spin to protect them. Nick Griffin (leader of the British National Party) was one of the very few public figures who spoke about this problem long before it was publicly acknowledged. Admittedly, he did it only behind closed doors, no doubt to avoid prosecution. But he was secretly filmed by the BBC and prosecuted anyway for incitement to racial hatred. He only got off because Muslims aren't a race. Then shortly afterwards the government extended the incitement laws to cover religion too. But now this pitiful coward in the Telegraph blames Nick Griffin for having issued a warning about the rape gang problem all those years before. -- There's one more figure who played an important role in this saga. As long ago as 2001, Nick Griffin, the leader of the BNP, was making claims about Asian grooming gangs. In 2004 he repeated these allegations in a speech clandestinely recorded by the BBC for a TV documentary, Secret Agent. He was arrested and charged with inciting racial hatred. A report for the children's commissioner in 2012 found there were 1,514 perpetrators. Of these, 545 were white, 415 were Asian and 244 were black. The ethnicity of 21% of perpetrators was not recorded. Attempts to analyse the Asian figure further runs into problems. Just 35 of the 415 Asians are recorded as having Pakistani heritage and thus highly likely to be Muslim, and only five are recorded as being from a Bangladeshi background. The heritage of 366 of the Asian group is not stated in those figures. -- But it concludes that "Asians" are over-represented because of their occupational profile. -- "However, the view in different parts of law enforcement is that it is wrong to take these figures and cases and say the race or religion of the perpetrator leads to them committing these crimes. Police believe the mission was only abandoned when the group turned up after the EDL demonstration had finished. Omar Khan, 28, Mohammed Saud, 22, Jewel Uddin, 27, Zohaib Ahmed, 22, and Anzal Hussain, 24, pleaded guilty at Woolwich crown court to engaging in preparation for acts of terrorism. A sixth man, Mohammed Hasseen, 23, pleaded guilty to the same offence and possessing a document likely to be of use to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism. The defendants - except Hasseen - had travelled in two cars from Birmingham to Dewsbury on the afternoon of 30 June with an arsenal of weapons hidden in holdalls in the boot of one of the cars. They also had 10 A4 printouts of a document addressed to David Cameron and the Queen that set out in chilling terms their determination to take revenge on the "enemies of Allah" - the "English Drunkards League". It stated: "We love death more than you love life ... What we did today was a direct retaliation of your insulting of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) &amp; also in retaliation of your crusade against Islam/Muslims on a global scale. It is of the greatest honour for us to do what we did." The men refused to answer questions during police interviews and detectives say they cannot rule out the possibility they had been planning a suicide attack. Judge Nicholas Hilliard QC, the recorder of Greenwich, told the men: "This will attract significant custody. There is no doubt about that." Marcus Beale, assistant chief constable with West Midlands police and responsible for its counter-terrorism unit, said the six were extremely dangerous and could have maimed, killed and brought misery which would "have transmitted fear and anxieties to our communities". The men drove around the town to the sites where the demonstration had been held and then, after stopping at a chip shop and mosque, made their way back to Birmingham. The aborted plot may never have been discovered had it not been for a traffic officer who decided to carry out a routine stop on one of the cars - driven by the suspected bomb-maker Khan - as it headed back to Birmingham along the M1 motorway. The gang had given the wrong registration number when they purchased car insurance over the phone earlier that day. The traffic officer seized the car and took Khan and his passenger, Uddin, to Meadow Hall train station so they could get back to Birmingham. Meanwhile the car was taken to a pound where it was locked up for the weekend. On Monday morning the staff discovered the arsenal of weapons and a full-scale manhunt involving hundreds of counter-terrorism officers swung into action. Within 48 hours all six men had been arrested. Detectives say there is no evidence linking the group to Pakistan or al-Qaida - although Hasseen had researched bomb-making from the Inspire magazine, a self-help guide produced by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula which is pushed on internet forums to would-be terrorists. One of the group, Uddin, was under "low-level" surveillance by the security services because of a suspected connection to a separate plot to carry out an attack rivalling the 7 July 2005 bombings - although police insist there was not enough evidence against him to warrant his arrest in relation to that case. As the rally was taking place, the five men travelled there in two cars, one of which was carrying a homemade bomb constructed out of a modified firework and containing 359 nails and 93 ball bearings. They also had two sawn-off shot guns, parts of other explosive devices, knives and a long printed message, dated the same day, describing their motivation and calling the Queen a "female devil". It said: "To the EDL (English Drunkards League). O enemies of Allah! We have heard and seen you openly insulting the final Messenger of Allah... you should know that for every action there is a reaction. "Today is a day of retaliation (especially) for your blasphemy of Allah and his Messenger Muhammad. We love death more than you love life. However, the men arrived after the EDL rally had broken up because the right-wing group had insufficient speakers to carry on later into the afternoon. A second member of the group, Ahmed, had been separately charged with possession of jihadist magazines that included bomb-making instructions. He was on bail at the time of the failed bombing. Responding to suggestions police could have arrested Uddin earlier, ACC Beale said: "We didn't fail to join the dots. "We were doing what was right and proportionate at the time." Five of the men were from Birmingham - Uddin, 27, and Khan, 28, both from Sparkhill, Ahmed, 22 from Saltley, Hasseen, 23 from Tyseley, and Hussain, 24, from Moseley - and one, Saud, 22, was from Smethwick.
