"A combination of raising the issue that the US government shouldnt be in the business of endorsing any one religion, and highlighting the fact that if you are not a Muslim, you do not have to obey Islamic laws (such as not drawing Mohammad)" - Thunderf00t

BTW: "A federal judge has issued a startling ruling that suppressing speech is allowed when Muslims threaten violence because they're upset over whats being said.

"The court finds that the actual demonstration of violence here provided the requisite justification for intervention, even if the officials acted as they did because of the
effect the speech had on the crowd."

Violence is rewarded and free speech is killed by a judge. Interesting to note that this trial went before a judge and not a jury. This is because it would be far easier for a single judge to make a ruling against the first amendment than it would be to convince a jury of Americans, especially if there were a couple of patriots amongst them.

Syria's Idriss warns Lebanon to restrain Hezbollah

May 21, 2013 01:11 AM By Lauren Williams

Supporters of Hezbollah and relatives of Hasan Faisal Sheker, an 18-year-old Hezbollah member, carry the coffin during his funeral in Nabi Sheet near Baalbeck May 20, 2013

BEIRUT: The defected Syrian General and head of the opposition Supreme Military Council has issued a stern warning to the Lebanese government to stop Hezbollah forces from entering Syria or risk bringing the Syrian war to its doorstep.

In a broad-ranging interview via telephone from Jordan, where he is holding talks ahead of Thursday's "Friends of Syria" meeting, Gen. Salim Idriss lashed out at Hezbollah as religious extremists, while also claiming President Bashar Assad's government had lied about gains in the strategic city of Qusair over the weekend.

"The devil's party is attacking Syrian territory, slaughtering the Syrian people to help the criminal Bashar's forces," he said, referring to Hezbollah.

"They lied, they were not able to enter Qusair and the number of theirs killed was in the dozens," he said of fierce battles Sunday in the city, 40 km from the Lebanese border. "Their dead are lying on the streets."

Idriss said the Free Syrian Army was well armed and being reinforced, determined to defend the city.

"We respect Lebanon's sovereignty and we don't want to bring the battle to Lebanon, but our patience is running out," he said. "We want the Lebanese president to guarantee that Hezbollah will not enter our territory."

It is unclear if Idriss' warning implies a further escalation or simply a continuation of the repeated shelling of Hermel and other Bekaa Valley areas by rebel groups over the past month.

"These are religious extremists with no respect for the integrity of Lebanon, who have built a state under the state," he said of the party.

The general, touted by the U.S. as the best chance for unifying disparate opposition groups on the ground, also said the role of the extremist Nusra Front, labeled a terrorist organization for their links with Al-Qaeda, was exaggerated.

"There are no more than 5,000 fighters with Nusra,' Idriss said, "But there is an obsession in the Western media and a sophisticated propaganda campaign that overstates their role."

He said the military council did not work with Nusra, adding that efforts to unite rebel brigades under the council's umbrella had made headway, with "around 90 percent" of rebel forces now under its command."

The military council is appealing to the U.S. and other Arab backers of the opposition for more and heavier weapons to topple Assad. Concerns about the growing influence of extremists and a string of videos showing rebel human rights abuses have prompted concern among U.S. lawmakers that weapons could fall into the wrong hands.

"We condemn their practices which are against our law and our traditions. We are exerting efforts to educate the FSA on lawful practices and telling them not to put anyone on trial until the regime has fallen," he said.

He said there was evidence Nusra was infiltrated by the regime to legitimize fears of a Sunni extremist takeover, but admitted their methods, which have included extrajudicial killings, torture and suicide attacks, had tarnished the reputation of the opposition.

"There are suspicions that they are not working with the revolution, but are serving the regime interests."

Idriss appealed for all foreign fighters in Syria to leave, and pointed to the role of Hezbollah as "religious extremists' and a "foreign militia" to counter the regime's claims that the uprising was backed by foreign extremists.

"What is more dangerous: Hezbollah or Nusra?" he asked.

Idriss was doubtful the peace conference proposed by the U.S. and Russia: "The only discussion point is when and how Assad will leave and when the commanders of the criminal armed forces will be brought to trial."

Referring to an interview Assad gave with an Argentinian newspaper this week in which he said he would "not stand down," Idriss said a political solution appeared unlikely.

"The majority of Syrians don't want violence, but they don't want Assad. Unfortunately it seems the only way to unseat him is militarily."

"The fighters on the ground, the martyrs, who have spilled their blood, are ready to fight for another 100 years."

Co-owner Mike Higgins of TGS Outdoors, a new gun store in downtown Branford, said new state gun laws are hurting his business.

Mike Higgins, the co-owner of TGS Outdoors, a gun shop that opened in downtown Branford earlier this year despite protest , said in a recent interview that new gun laws passed by the state are hurting his business.

Specifically, Higgins said there is a shortage of ammunition, and he didn't know why, according to the New Haven Register. Also, he said that stricter gun laws mean less gun sales, according to the Register.

"If our state was a free state, I could be making four times what I am now," Higgins told the New Haven Register . "I'm just trying to survive, to be a small mom-and-pop shop, which the politicians love to claim that they support. But what they've done is to force me into a small puddle of inventory where I have to fight it out with other business like mine, and that's if I can get types of guns that people are looking for, because there is a real shortage of product."

During a live interview with CBS News, Moore resident Barbara Garcia
found her missing dog beneath the debris. Garcia explained that she rode
out the storm in the bathroom of her now-decimated home, but was
separated from her dog. As she's telling her story, someone off-camera
spots the dog, buried beneath the rubble. As the camera rolled, Garcia
was able to lift up the debris and free the pup.
"Well I thought God just answered one prayer to let me be okay," Garcia said, "but he answered both of them."

British sisters on aid trip are kidnapped and raped in front of their father after being stopped at Libyan checkpoint

: Two women were abducted on the outskirts of Benghazi en route to Gaza
:Taken by men in military uniforms to an isolated farm along with their father
:Witnesses said sisters, of Pakistani origin, wearing 'Free Palestine' t-shirts
:Officials said four suspects had been arrested and are tracing a fifth person
:Deputy Prime Minister Awad al-Barassi said father witnessed the rape
:Libyan Interior Ministry blamed the incident on 'outlaws' and illicit checkpoint

Two British women aid workers were kidnapped and raped in front of their father after being stopped at an unofficial checkpoint in Libya.

The sisters were abducted when their vehicle was stopped on the outskirts of the eastern city of Benghazi.

They were taken by men in military uniforms to an isolated farm and subjected to a horrific sex attack in front of their father.

Witnesses said the young women, both Pakistan-born British citizens, were wearing veils and Free Palestine T-shirts. Libyan officials said four suspects have been arrested and security forces are trying to trace a fifth.

It was unclear whether they were part of the 'revolutionary brigades' that serve under the country's security ministries or outlaw militia.

Deputy prime minister Awad al-Barassi said the sisters were in a 'very bad shape' after the horrific attack, which happened on Tuesday. Last night they were preparing to fly home to the UK.

He said the women were part of an ten-vehicle aid convoy trying to reach the Gaza Strip with medical supplies. Organised by IHH, a Turkish humanitarian relief organisation, the aid mission left Britain on February 25 but became stuck in Libya when Egyptian border guards refused to let the convoy cross into Egypt.

The family were on a bus on their way to Benghazi's Benina airport when they were stopped at the unofficial checkpoint by armed young men in military uniforms.

Mr al-Barassi said the women and their father were kidnapped, and the man witnessed his daughters' rape.

He said he visited the victims and met their father at a Benghazi hospital to apologise on behalf of the Libyan people and government. He described the family as being in a 'very bad psychological state'.

There were reports that two other members of the aid group were also assaulted by a different armed group and that two others are missing.

The remaining members of the aid convoy travelled to the Turkish consulate in Benghazi for safety

Mr al-Barassi said those involved in the attack would stand trial soon.

The attack highlights how Libya remains a dangerous place for foreigners in the aftermath of the overthrow of the Gaddafi regime.

Hundreds of heavily armed militia, many with links to criminal gangs, continue to operate freely across the country.

Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into another civil war because of Qusayr - Poll

Al Arabiya

The rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) held Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah personally responsible for the situation in the Syrian border town of Qusayr, as sectarian tension was on the rise in neighboring Lebanon.

"We announced that Hassan Nasrallah will be held personally responsible for the current situation because he in person is meeting with all of before they head to Qusayr," FSA spokesperson Louay Almokdad told Al Arabiya English. "We are today calling Nasrallah a killer of the Syrian people."

Clashes between forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad - along with Lebanese ally Hezbollah - and the rebels raged into a second day Monday in the strategic town of Qusayr, which is between Damascus and the coast.

"It has reached the audacity and extent of criminal behavior that Nasrallah met with 1,200 of his fighters in the southern suburbs before they headed to ," the FSA spokesperson said, adding the Hezbollah chief has distributed "tokens of motivation on which Shiite slogans - Yatharat al-Hussein - were written to each of his fighters."

"We are certain these are fighters of Hassan Nasrallah. They are no longer Hezbollah, they are fighters of Hassan Nasrallah and Ali Khamanei."

However, the FSA spokesperson also said that, along with Hezbollah, were fighters from other Lebanese groups, including the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and the Baath Party.

The Syrian rebels have repeatedly warned that they will hit Hezbollah targets on Lebanese territory if the latter does not withdraw from Syria and have called on the Lebanese government to put a stop to Hezbollah intervention.

The Lebanese government: a state of paralysisHowever, according to Imad Salamey - a professor of International Affairs at the Lebanese American University in Beirut, the Lebanese government cannot do anything to stop the powerful Party of God.

"The Lebanese government has been and continues to be in a state of paralysis, which mostly works in Hezbollah's interest," Salamey told Al Arabiya English on Monday. "The government cannot stop Hezbollah, and the army stopping Hezbollah from intervening in Syria will definitely not be the case."

"Hezbollah is being dragged further into the Syrian conflict, and it is not going to end in Qusayr," he said, adding that the movement "was dragging Lebanon into a civil war."

" involvement in the Syrian issue, no matter what the pretext, will only drag Lebanon into the conflict because the Lebanese are divided ."

At least three people were killed and 40 injured in two days of fighting in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli, where an Alawite minority lives. Lebanese Sunnis mostly sympathize with the revolt against the government of Bashar al-Assad, whose minority Alawite sect is an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

A wave
of tit-for-tat kidnappings and
infighting
between rival Islamic militant groups in the northern Syrian city of
Aleppo risks sparking large-scale internal fighting between rebels
after clashes killed at least nine
militants earlier this week, activists said Saturday.

The
director of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights,
Rami Abdul-Rahman, said a coalition of rebel groups known as the
Judicial Council had accused another armed opposition faction, the
Ghurabaa al-Sham, of plundering factories in Aleppo's industrial
neighborhood. Aleppo, Syria's largest city and a former commercial
center, is split between rebel and government control.

Any
internal fighting between rebels in the city would play into the
hands of the Syrian goverment, which is fighting an opposition
dominated by extremists linked to al-Qaida network.

Aleppo,
a city of 3 million that was once a bastion of support for President
Bashar Assad, has been engulfed in heavy fighting since rebels
launched an assault there in July and captured several neighborhoods.
Over the past few weeks, regime forces have been pursuing an
offensive in the city, mainly focused on pushing the rebels from
around the international airport and a nearby military air base.

Abdul-Rahman
said tensions among rebel factions have been rising in
opposition-held areas, mostly on the eastern side of the city.

The
two groups, the Judicial Council and the Ghurabaa al-Sham, clashed on
Tuesday near Aleppo in fighting that left four members of the
Judicial Council dead, Abldul-Rahman said. He added that the Judicial
Council is now holding dozens of members of Ghurabaa al-Sham captive.

Aleppo-based
activist Mohammed Saeed said Ghurabaa al-Sham withdrew its fighters
from several neighborhoods, including the industrial area, and that
it had released all of the Judicial Council members it had been
holding captive.

"The
situation is very tense in Aleppo," said Abdul-Rahman, who
relies on a network of activists around the country. He said that
Ghurabaa al-Sham has warned it will bring some of its members from
outside the city to fight against the Judicial Council if its members
are not freed.

Saeed
said Ghurabaa al-Sham released all Judicial Council members it was
holding while the other group refused to set free Ghuarbaa al-Sham
members and is still holding them.

He
added that the Judicial Council is an umbrella organization that
includes the Tawheed Brigade, al-Sham Liberals and the
al-Qaida-affiliated Jabhat al-Nusra - one of the most effective
forces among the mosaic of rebel brigades.

"There
are fears that fighting (between rebels) might erupt in Aleppo,"
Saeed said by telephone.

In
other parts of Syria, the Observatory reported that rebels captured
several villages late Friday in the central province of Hama after
weeks of fighting with government troops."Civilians in those
areas are now cut off from contact with the outside world, and lives
are in extreme danger," the coalition said in a statement.

The
uprising against President Assad's rule that began in March 2011
quickly became an outlet for long-suppressed grievances, mostly by
poor Sunnis from marginalized areas. It has since escalated into an
outright civil war that killed more than 70,000 people according to
the United Nations.

The
conflict has grown increasingly sectarian, both in action and
rhetoric.

Fox news reporter targeted by Obama administration.

Following is an article from Yahoo about another attack on the freedom of speech.

http://news.yahoo.com/obama-administration-targets-fox-news-reporter-chilling-echo-190527066.html

Associated Press reporters are not alone. One week after news broke that the Justice Department secretly obtained phone records from AP, more news has emerged about the Obama administration 's campaign to silence leaks.

This time, it's new details about a 2010 Justice Departmentinvestigation into a Fox News correspondent who reportedgovernment secrets on North Korea . The twist is that in the Fox News case, the government is suggesting that the reporter broke the law and criminal charges could result.

The news points to how the Obama administration is going to unprecedented lengths to defend secrets - prosecuting moregovernment leakers under the 1917 Espionage Act than all prior administrations combined.

Anecdotal evidence suggests the crackdown is having an effect, with AP saying some of its sources are falling silent. But that success could come at the expense of the newsgathering and investigative-reporting process that the Founding Fathers saw as a crucial check on federal power.

The Fox News case, in particular, suggests the "criminalization of investigative journalism," writes Glenn Greenwald in The Guardian, a British newspaper.

According to a Washington Post report Sunday , Fox News chief Washington correspondent James Rosen reported in June 2009 on a CIA analysis that suggested North Korea may respond to UN sanctions with more nuclear tests. The story was published online the same day that a confidential report on the matter was released to select officials in the intelligence community, including a State Department security adviser, Stephen Jin-Woo Kim.

Detecting a connection, FBI investigators built a case alleging Mr. Kim leaked information to Mr. Rosen. To do so, they used every tool in their arsenal: analyzing security badge access records to track Rosen's comings and goings from the State Department, tracing the timing of his calls to Kim, even subpoenaing his personal e-mails.

Ultimately, FBI agents concluded Kim did, in fact, leak information to Rosen using a complex, if clumsy, system of communication including aliases and coded signals.

In his report, FBI investigator Reginald Reyes said evidence suggested Rosen had broken the law, "at the very least, either as an aider, abettor and/or co-conspirator."

While details on the case are forthcoming, it is not a crime for journalists to report classified information, except in rare circumstances. Furthermore, government seizure of media records is tightly circumscribed under the government's Code of Federal Regulations .

The AP and Fox News cases renew concerns about the potential stifling effect government investigations have on reporters and their sources.

"Search warrants like these have a severe chilling effect on the free flow of important information to the public," said First Amendment lawyer Charles Tobin in the Washington Post report. "That's a very dangerous road to go down."

Jane Mayer of The New Yorker goes further: "It's a huge impediment to reporting, and so chilling isn't quite strong enough, it's more like freezing the whole process into a standstill," she told the New Republic .

As a case in point, Gary Pruitt , CEO of the AP, told CBS's "Face the Nation" this weekend that the Justice Department's investigation is already silencing AP sources.

"Already, officials that would normally talk to us and people we talk to in the normal course of news gathering are already saying to us that they're a little reluctant to talk to us," he said. "They fear that they - they will be monitored by the government."

Perhaps the most serious implication, however, is that the investigations threaten to jeopardize the very practice of investigative journalism, already endangered by budget cuts and the 24/7 news cycle.

"Under US law, it is not illegal to publish classified information," writes The Guardian's Mr. Greenwald. "That fact, along with the First Amendment's guarantee of press freedoms, is what has prevented the US government from ever prosecuting journalists for reporting on what the US government does in secret. This newfound theory of the Obama DOJ - that a journalist can be guilty of crimes for 'soliciting' the disclosure of classified information - is a means for circumventing those safeguards and criminalizing the act of investigative journalism itself."

Republican Congressman Gohmert: IRS 'Would Have Shot the Boston Tea Party'

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) on Friday declared that the Internal
Revenue Service (IRS) would have murdered the participants of the
original 1773 Boston Tea Party and and would have "killed off" half of
the Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence.
In a 30-minute floor speech to express his outrage over a report in The Daily Caller
that said the Department of Homeland Security was "protecting the free
speech rights of pro-Shariah Muslim supremacists," Gohmert noted that
President Barack Obama's administration had a number of other problems
like the recent news that the IRS had scrutinized the tax-exempt status
of tea party and other conservative groups.
"Homeland Security has had reports warning their employees about the
dangers of people that may be involved in such heinous activity as being
classified as evangelical Christians or as being concerned about the
Constitution and that people should be following the Constitution, and
concerned about people who may have tea party in their name," he
explained.
"You know, thank goodness that the IRS was not around to have helped
the Founders when they founded the country or otherwise they would have
probably shot the Boston Tea Party participants, they would have killed
off over half of the signers of the Declaration of the Independence,"
Gohmert added.
"And this country would have never had gotten started if this
Department of Homeland Security had been around to be helpful -- so
called -- to our founders."
In referencing the Declaration of Independence and the Boston Tea
Party, Gohmert seems to be suggesting that the IRS and the Department of
Homeland Security do not have legitimate authority -- similar to the
claims the American colonists made against the British empire prior to
the Revolutionary War
