Belen vs St Thomas Water Polo Handshake fail. - 05-02-2013

With the title decided, the teams lined up to walk through the traditional handshake line, a classic high school sports gesture aimed at maintaining a sense of friendship and collegiality. What resulted was a fracas when a Belen player used the opportunity to launch one of his STA rivals into the pool rather than shake his hand.

The resulting kerfuffle was exactly what you would expect to emerge from two rivals in such a highly-charged faceoff. STA players immediately jumped in to defend their now-soggy teammate, while Belen players responded in kind once the STA players reached the handshake line instigator. Eventually coaches from both teams were able to intervene and stop the shoving from escalating into something worse, though not before emotions were frayed and tensions reached a piqued level.

Eventually, the teams made up, with a group of Belen players apologizing to their rivals for the teammate's actions, though that hardly makes his little shoving fit any more sportsmanlike.

Considering the fact that the game marked the final matchup of the 2013 season, that shove could mark the last act of one young man's water polo career. That's a shame, both for him, his school and the sense of friendship fostered when high school sports work as they should.

This was recorded yesterday in Moscow. There was some kind of disagreement between the lady and a street vendor. She ends up taking off her clothes and the vendor wasn't too impressed.
Anyway, she doesn't know that she made the day for a bunch of bored teens who screeched away with glee at her actions.

Napolitano clarifies comments that implied 9/11 terrorists entered U.S. through Canada

A suggestion by the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary that terrorists have routinely entered the United States through Canada - including the perpetrators of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks - caused a kerfuffle in Washington Tuesday.

Janet Napolitano made the comment in an interview Monday with CBC's Washington correspondent, Neil Macdonald.

In the interview, Macdonald asked Napolitano to clarify comments she made last month that the Canadian and Mexican borders must be treated equally.

"Yes, Canada is not Mexico. It doesn't have a drug war going on; it didn't have 6,000 homicides that were drug-related last year," Napolitano said.

"Nonetheless, to the extent that terrorists have come into our country or suspected or known terrorists have entered our country across a border, it's been across the Canadian border. There are real issues there."

When Macdonald asked if she was referring to the 9/11 perpetrators, Napolitano answered: "Not just those but others as well."
Wilson 'frustrated' by comments

That prompted Michael Wilson, Canada's ambassador to the United States, to set the record straight Tuesday.

Wilson told reporters at the Border Trade Alliance meeting in Washington, where he was keynote speaker, that he is "frustrated" that the 9/11 myth has surfaced yet again.

"Unfortunately, misconceptions arise on something as fundamental as where the 9/11 terrorists came from," he said.

"As the 9/11 commission reported in 2004, all of the 9/11 terrorists arrived in the United States from outside North America. They flew to major U.S. airports. They entered the U.S. with documents issued by the United States government, and no 9/11 terrorists came from Canada."
Napolitano misunderstood question, handlers say

In response to Wilson, Napolitano's handlers said she had misunderstood Macdonald's question and was referring to Ahmed Ressam, the would-be bomber referred to as "the millennium bomber."

Ressam was arrested in December 1999 at Port Angeles, Wash., with homemade explosives in his rental car. He was later convicted of plotting to bomb the Los Angeles International Airport.

Napolitano issued a statement later Tuesday to clarify her remarks.

While she knows no 9/11 terrorists entered the U.S. through Canada, she said, "there are other instances ... when suspected terrorists have attempted to enter our country from Canada to the United States.

"Some of these are well known to the public, such as the millennium bomber, while others are not due to security reasons."

Wilson said he was satisfied with the clarification but still wants a face-to-face meeting with Napolitano.
Napolitano digs deeper hole

But then, Napolitano appeared to make matters worse by explaining to the border conference Tuesday why the Canada and Mexico borders should be treated equally.

"The fact of the matter is that Canada allows people into its country that we do not allow into ours," she said.

"That's why you have to have a border, and you have to have border policies that make sense."

Liberal MP John McKay, who was at the conference, said Napolitano's comments alarmed him.

"If you are, in fact, negotiating a managed border, and your negotiating partner believes a set of mythology, then you have problems," he said "You try to work on the basis of fact, not on the basis of myth."

Saying Canada is lax about whom it allows into the country is "plain nonsense," he added.

"I have a heavily immigrant riding, and I do visas all day every day, and one of the most difficult things I have to explain to my constituents is why is it that the United States granted a multiple-entry visa to the relatives but Canada won't," said McKay, who represents the Toronto-area Scarborough-Guildwood riding.

In the past, other high-profile U.S. politicians have also suggested a link between terrorists and the Canadian border, including Napolitano's predecessor, Michael Chertoff, who said last year that more than a dozen suspected extremists had been caught trying to enter the U.S. via Canada.

When she was senator, Hillary Clinton said tighter security was needed at the Canada-U.S. border because of 9/11.

The Pulse: The smearing of a president: From start, unrelenting, unfair

 This election
has always been a referendum on Barack Obama. For some, not on matters
of substance. They can't have it both ways. It's hypocritical to
distribute a vicious, false narrative about him while fancying yourself a
patriot and a great American. Vilify a sitting president of the United
States with fiction and innuendo, and you are neither.

I objected when George W. Bush was the subject of undeserved
hyperbolic criticism, but the baseless scorn heaped upon President Obama
makes Bush's detractors look diplomatic. The president, the office, and
our nation deserve better.
It's been unrelenting. The day after Obama took office, Rush Limbaugh
told Sean Hannity he wanted him to "fail." Later, Glenn Beck called the
president a "racist" with a "deep-seated hatred of white people."
Donald Trump's birtherism took hold while words like socialist
were uttered with increased frequency. And a prairie fire of falsehoods
spread through the Internet suggesting, among other things, that Obama
is a Muslim or refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, paving the
way for Dinesh D'Souza's fictionalized "documentary" 2016 , which characterized Obama as fulfilling the anticolonial agenda of his father - a man he literally knew for just one weekend!

Among the usual memes used to undermine the president is the threat
of some apocalyptic cataclysm, usually in the form of an assertion of
federal power, like the seizing of guns. These predictions demand
unthinking acceptance of the notion that the president, like a bizarre
Manchurian candidate, is saving his nefarious agenda for a second term
that might never arrive. By my count, the website Snopes.com has
evaluated and debunked 103 of 124 Internet assertions about Obama.
Just before Hurricane Sandy hit, Ann Coulter called our sitting
president a "retard," Sarah Palin mocked his "shuck and jive shtick,"
and John Sununu openly questioned Gen. Colin Powell's weighty
endorsement as being motivated by race. At least earlier in the campaign
there was some effort at camouflage. Such as when Mitt Romney aired an
anti-Obama welfare commercial that falsely suggested Obama supported
handouts ("They just send you your welfare check") when, in fact, Obama
was accommodating requests of several governors, two of them
conservative Republicans, to try new ways to put people back to work. A
similar sentiment was expressed by Romney when he maligned the 47
percent who don't pay federal income taxes, overlooking that 83 percent
of that group are either working and paying payroll taxes or they're
elderly.
And, almost daily, there have been dire warnings about Obama, often
with sirens, from the Drudge Report. Example: the Sept. 18 edition
featuring a hideous picture of Obama (eyes closed) emblazoned with the
all-capped quote: "I ACTUALLY BELIEVE IN REDISTRIBUTION," a 14-year-old
excerpt that conveniently excised the future president's explicit
embrace of "competition" and "marketplace." No wonder I routinely field
calls from radio listeners who, with no hint of embarrassment in their
voices, say things such as "I call him 'comrade' " or "he's not my
president."
Their best evidence? Obamacare - crafted by the same people who wrote
Romneycare. Critics ignore that the Affordable Care Act is premised
upon personal responsibility and was born in a right-wing think tank.
Politifact, the Pulitzer Prize-winning website of the Tampa Bay Times,
called the idea that Obamacare represents a "takeover" of the
health-care system the 2010 Lie of the Year. And while some have also
labeled the president a "socialist" for signing the $831 billion
stimulus, no one ever used such language when Bush acted similarly with
the $700 billion TARP.
In the final days, the critics have turned to Benghazi, drilling down
on the shifting narrative regarding the killing of the U.S. ambassador
to Libya, but ignoring that, as the Wall Street Journal reported on Oct.
22, "The CIA was consistent from Sept. 13 to Sept. 21 that the attack
evolved from a protest." There's another problem with the criticism.
Romney now gets intelligence briefings, too. Perhaps that's why he took a
pass on this kerfuffle when Libya was the first question at the final
debate.
So why the attention on the recent 9/11? Perhaps to deflect attention
from Obama avenging the first 9/11. Most disturbing, the president's
critics have sought to diminish that achievement by treating his order
as a no-brainer. As a candidate in 2008, Obama was roundly criticized
when he said (to me and others) that he would act on intelligence
regarding the al-Qaeda leader even if he were in Pakistan. To Bush that
was "unsavory." To John McCain that was "naive." Hillary Clinton said
this was "a mistake." Joe Biden said Obama "undermined his ability to be
tough." And Romney regarded that pledge as "ill-timed" and
"ill-considered." Imagine the criticism Obama would have faced if the
mission had failed.
The reality is that there is much to be admired in the president and
his rise to power. Replace Kenya with Poland or Germany, and you'd have
observers rightly saying that only in this country could such a career
path be possible. He is a loving husband and father who, with the first
lady, is ably raising two daughters in the glare of the White House. He
is an intellectual heavyweight. And his personal ethics have been above
reproach.
Real patriots vote for or against candidates based on substance, not smear

N.C. Teacher Tells Student He Could Be Arrested for Talking Badly About Obama

WELCOME TO 1984!!

Last Monday, a high school student in North Carolina engaged his social studies teacher in a heated debate about politics and the two leading presidential candidates. During the exchange, the teacher (an obvious Obama supporter) got very angry with the student and accused him of disrespecting the president. She even went so far as to tell the boy that he could be jailed for speaking ill of Obama.

Sarah Campbell of the Salisbury Post first reported on the story. She claims that the school district is not releasing the name of the teacher and that she is not responding to requests for public comment (although the two students identified her to the newspaper). According to Campbell's story, the teacher will not be suspended or even face disciplinary action for what was heard on the recording. A statement from the school was released at the end of the week:

"The Rowan-Salisbury School System expects all students and employees to be respectful in the school environment and for all teachers to maintain their professionalism in the classroom. This incident should serve as an education for all teachers to stop and reflect on their interaction with students. Due to personnel and student confidentiality, we cannot discuss the matter publicly."

So, how bad was the exchange? It got fairly heated, with the teacher shouting at times. The kerfuffle started after one student asked a question about the teacher's "fact of the day" that said Romney was a bully back in high school. A student asked:

"Didn't Obama bully somebody, though?"

The teacher started to get angry and said:

"Not to my knowledge."

A couple of students relayed the story about Obama admitting that he bullied someone when he was younger. And that seemed to light the fuse on his teacher's anger. A couple of the students exchanged words with the angry teacher.

"Stop! Stop! Because there's no comparison. He's running for president. Obama is the president."

As one student attempted to argue for a fair, two-sided debate on the history of the candidates, he was shouted down and talked over by the teacher. She continued:

"You got to realize, this man is wanting to be what Obama is. There's no comparison."

Once again, the students pressed for equal discussion of the histories of both men, with one saying:

"If you're gonna talk trash about one side, you gotta talk trash about the other."

The teacher just seemed to dig her heels in deeper and press her defense of Obama telling the defiant teen:

"You will not disrespect the president of the United States in this classroom."

Again the student persisted and invoked his First Amendment right.

"I'll say what I want."

The still unidentified teacher read the student her rules...her Obama rules.

"Not about him, you won't!"

The back and forth continued and the most strident of the two students reminded his teacher that President Bush was constantly treated to negative statements about him while he was in office:

"Whenever Bush was president, everybody talked sh-t about him."

To which the teacher responded:

"Because he was sh-tty."

The social studies educator went on for a full minute with more ranting, saying that people were arrested for saying derogatory things about President Bush. The student correctly reminded the teacher that opinions are protected, but you cannot be arrested unless you threaten the president.

Our research has not turned up a single case of anyone in America being arrested for speaking ill of former President Bush. The local newspaper story also mentioned that their discussions about the story with a political science professor could not recall the arrests that the teacher was speaking about.

The entire confrontation was recorded by a student and posted on YouTube. Listen below; slight content warning for language.
