God vs. Gov't: What Does the Constitution Really Say About the Separation of Church and State?

God vs. Gov't: What Does the Constitution Really Say About the Separation of Church and State? What does the U.S. Constitution - specifically the First Amendment - really say about the separation of church and state?

This question has been at the center of public debate for decades, as atheist activists, in particular, have advanced the notion that the nation's founders envisioned a particularly fervent imposition of the segregation of God and government. But is this really the case?

Dr. John Eastman, a distinguished law professor at Chapman University, told TheBlaze that he believes these non-believers have their story wrong.

"They think the phrase separation of church and state is the First Amendment," he said, going on to note that these words don't appear anywhere in the U.S. Constitution.

Just in case you need a refresher, the amendment reads:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The first line creates the most contention, as it involves two separate religious articles - the Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses. It is the former that most atheist activists tend to focus on, and according to Eastman, their assessments are generally wrong-headed.

Rather than a decry waged against any inclusion of faith in the public square, the professor claims that this portion of the document speaks against a state-imposed faith.

"It tells us that you don't want a national religion - a state-coerced national religion, a one-size-fits-all, everybody-has-to-join ," he said of the Establishment Clause, going on to highlight a bit of history. " were concerned that with a strong national government there would be a national religion ... they wanted to allow the states a free hand to collaborate religion in their important work of fostering a citizenry."

Eastman called the provision one that was rooted in federalism. Over the past 50 years, he charged the U.S. Supreme Court with misunderstanding the Establishment Clause to mean that religion must be removed entirely from public life. Atheist activists have seized upon this interpretation as well.

"We're on the threshold of success," he said, though, of reversing the trend.

As far as nativities on courthouse lawns and other similar religious imagery goes, Eastman said that communities should be allowed to express their views so long as citizens are not being coerced by the government to subscribe to specific ideologies.

NYT: OBAMA ADMINISTRATION KNEW OF IRS SCANDAL 5 MONTHS BEFORE ELECTION

In no uncertain terms and with no hedging, The New York Times reports that the Obama Administration was aware of the fact that the IRS was targeting Tea Party groups as far back as June of 2012. The Treasury Department's Inspector General confirmed that he told senior Treasury officials in June of 2012, a full five months before Election Day:The Treasury Department's inspector general told senior Treasury officials in June 2012 he was investigating the Internal Revenue Service's screening of politically active organizations seeking tax exemptions, disclosing for the first time on Friday that Obama administration officials were aware of the matter during the presidential campaign year.

We still don't know for sure what the President knew or when he knew it, but this does confirm that the Administration was aware of the fact that Obama's political enemies were under fire by the IRS and covered that fact up during an election year.

As Lisa Meyers of NBC News told "Morning Joe" today , "Imagine if we -- if you can -- what would have happened if this fact came out in September 2012, in the middle of a presidential election? The terrain would have looked very different."

The first time President Obama was asked when he found out about the IRS scandal, he told the media that he learned of the news last Friday, the same way the rest of us did -- from the news media.

Thursday, a Bloomberg reporter asked the President when both he or anyone in the White House learned of the scandal. The President dodged the question .

With this latest news confirming when the Administration first learned of the IRS scandal, we now know that, along with Benghazi and the unfurling Associated Press scandal, that there were three scandals brewing and unfolding in the White House during an election year. But we are only now hearing about them -- six months after Barack Obama is safely re-elected.

This fact says as much about the failure of our lapdog national media as it does about President Obama. Why just this morning the Times itself dismissed the IRS scandal on its editorial page.

What kind of presidential candidate can we expect from Republicans in 2016?

2011 was a banner year in stupidity, craziness, and fright from the Republican Party. With seven candidates vying to be more conservative than each other, the atmosphere was perfect for insanity. Throughout the year, each candidate made comments that proved just how out of touch, ignorant, and dangerous the right wing has truly become. It's hard to choose which quotes to list but here are just 25, brought to you by Michele Bachmann, Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, and Newt Gingrich.

"They can get married. They can marry a man if they're a woman. Or they can marry a woman if they're a man."
~Michele Bachmann, on whether or not homosexuals can get married.

"The more toppings a man has on his pizza, I believe the more manly he is. A manly man don't want it piled high with vegetables! He would call that a sissy pizza."
~Herman Cain, on manliness. Too bad House Republicans declared pizza a vegetable, and therefore declared Cain, a sissy.

"Our nation needs to stop doing for people what they can and should do for themselves. Self reliance means, if anyone will not work, neither should he eat."
~Michele Bachmann, saying the unemployed should starve.

"Our Founding Fathers never meant for Washington, D.C. to be the fount of all wisdom. As a matter of fact they were very much afraid if that because they'd just had this experience with this far-away government that had centralized thought process and planning and what have you, and then it was actually the reason that we fought the revolution in the 16th century was to get away from that kind of onerous crown if you will."
~Rick Perry, incorrectly stating that the American Revolution occurred during the 1500s. It actually occurred in the 1770s and ended in 1781.

"One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country. It's not okay. It's a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. is supposed to be within marriage. It's supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal...but also procreative. That's the perfect way that a sexual union should happen...This is special and it needs to be seen as special."
~Rick Santorum, opposing contraception and frighteningly suggesting that he would love to make pre-marital sex illegal.

"There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate."
~Newt Gingrich, blaming his many affairs on his patriotism.

Homosexuality had been officially classified as a mental disorder in the APA's first Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-1) in 1952. There it was designated as a "sociopathic personality disturbance." Viewing homosexuality as a mental illness was not controversial at the time as it coincided with prevailing societal attitudes. DSM-II, published in 1968, listed homosexuality as a sexual deviation, but sexual deviations were no longer categorized as a sociopathic personality disturbance.

The publication of DSM-II coincided with the emergence of the gay rights movement. The Stonewall riots in 1969 in New York City marked a watershed event in the movement. Having successfully challenged the police and government attempts to shut down public places where gay people gathered, gay activists would soon challenge psychiatric authority as well.

The rest is the disgusting history of gays challenging every single good institution and forcing their beliefs on all groups or calling them bigots. Liberals lead the way.

Men who are physically strong are more likely to have right wing political views

Weaker men more likely to support welfare state and wealth redistribution
Link may reflect psychological traits that evolved in our ancestors
Strength was a proxy for ability to defend or acquire resources
There is no link between women's physical strength and political views.

Men who are strong are more likely to take a right-wing stance, while weaker men support the welfare state, researchers claim.

Their study discovered a link between a man's upper-body strength and their political views.

Scientists from Aarhus University in Denmark collected data on bicep size, socio-economic status and support for economic redistribution from hundreds in America, Argentina and Denmark.

The figures revealed that men with higher upper-body strength were less likely to support left-wing policies on the redistribution of wealth.

Men with less upper body strength are more likely to support the welfare state - like Labour leader Ed Miliband

But men with low upper-body strength were more likely to put their own self-interest aside and support a welfare state.

The researchers found no link between upper-body strength and redistribution opinions among women.

Professor Michael Petersen said: 'In all three countries, physically strong males consistently pursued the self-interested position on redistribution.

'However physically weak males were more reluctant to assert their self-interest - just as if disputes over national policies were a matter of direct physical confrontation between individuals.

'While many people think of politics as a modern phenomenon, it has, in a sense, always been with our species.

'Political views are designed by natural selection to function in the conditions recurrent over human evolutionary history.'

The findings were published in the journal Psychological Science.

Professor Petersen added: 'Many previous studies have shown that people's political views cannot be predicted by standard economic models.

'This is among the first studies to show that political views may be rational in another sense, in that they're designed by natural selection to function in the conditions recurrent over human evolutionary history.'

In conclusion...All this boils down too is...Liberals are Sissy's

by Margery Eagan
You know the worm has turned when even MSNBC's Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow hold their noses at the stench from Barack Obama's scandals - when so many stories from the so-called liberal press now describe the erstwhile Messiah as "aloof," "arrogant" and "holier than thou."

Obama announced the acting IRS chief's resignation last night. It's a start. But not quite enough to make up for the continuous late-night news loop from the Benghazi cover-up to the IRS scandal to the seizing of phone records of Associated Press editors and reporters.

Comedy Central's Jon Stewart - the chief news source for millions of young and liberal Obama voters - has laced into the president nonstop over White House claims that the president has learned of all this malfeasance on the TV news, just like any old bar stool Joe.

The way things are going, Stewart said, "I wouldn't be surprised if President Obama learned Osama bin Laden had been killed when he saw himself announcing it on television."

The same media types accused of covering Obama on bended knee - such as myself - are now turning our collective backs. And no wonder. What we're learning about his administration has undermined our basic trust in government.

Yet the president seems oblivious to how serious and unsettling these scandals are, and how much damage he's done to his own agenda. And how he's fed right into the fears of the tin-foil hat set who can point to these very scary power grabs and say, "See? He really is coming to get us."

Obama is no Nixon - at least not yet. Tricky Dick was the prime mover behind the White House "plumbers," the notorious "enemies list" and the Watergate break-in, while Obama remains oddly passive in the face of his own administration's perfect storm of scandals.

As for the IRS, we can't forget its long and disgraceful history of targeting citizens for political payback: from Clinton ladies Gennifer Flowers and Paula Jones to Martin Luther King Jr. to the John Birch Society and supposed communist sympathizers. The Wall Street Journal just reported that congressmen from both parties are seeking hundreds of politically motivated audits in the Clinton era.

Until now, whenever Obama screwed up, Hillary voters could say, "I told you so." But that ended when Hillary, inexplicably, told congressmen pressing her on why Americans at our embassy were killed, "What difference does it make?"

Now we die-hard Dems are depressed, discouraged ... and bracing for "Joe Biden in 2016."

WAS IT AGAINST UNIFORM PROTOCOL FOR THE MARINE TO HOLD OBAMA'S UMBRELLA?

As TheBlaze blog pointed out yesterday - and many other stories covering
President Barack Obama's press conference outside the White House showed - the Commander in Chief called in Marines to hold umbrellas over him and the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan as it began to rain during an outdoor press conference.

But now the Internet is starting to buzz with an interesting angle: Was it actually out of Marine uniform protocol for the Marines to hold the weather-shielding items?

"... hy don't we get a couple Marines - they're going to look good next to us -
just 'cause I've got a change of suit but I don't know about, uh, our prime minister," Obama said, requesting the umbrellas while he answered questions regarding the IRS scandal.

Some are pointing to the Chapter 3 of the MCO P1020.34F of the Marine Corps Uniform Regulations, which states:

Female Marines may carry an all-black, plain standard or collapsible umbrella at their option during inclement weather with the service and dress uniforms. It will be carried in the left hand so that the hand salute can be properly rendered. Umbrellas may not be used/carried in formation nor will they be carried with the utility uniform.

As can be noted here, female Marines are permitted to carry umbrellas while in
service or dress uniforms. The Marines pictured holding umbrellas are in dress
uniforms, but they are males and the Marine holding one above Obama is using
his right hand.

That seems pretty clear. But is there a caveat? Meaning: Would the president's
request supersede military uniform protocol rules?

The manual states that a commander "may interpret the provisions of this Manual
to address specific concerns whenever necessary." A commander in the manual is
defined as Marine officers titled as "Commanding General, Commanding Officer,
Director, Officer in Charge or Inspector-Instructor."

"Exceptions to this Manual are only granted in writing by the Commandant of the
Marine Corps (Marine Corps Uniform Board)," it states.

TheBlaze contacted the the Marines' and was also referred to Title 10 responsibilities of the United States Code, specifically this portion of the section (emphasis added):

The Marine Corps, within the Department of the Navy, shall be so organized as to include not less than three combat divisions and three air wings, and such other land combat, aviation, and other services as may be organic therein. The Marine Corps shall be organized, trained, and equipped to provide fleet marine forces of combined arms, together with supporting air components, for service with the fleet in the seizure or defense of advanced naval bases and for the conduct of such land operations as may be essential to the prosecution of a naval campaign. In addition, the Marine Corps shall provide detachments and organizations for service on armed vessels of the Navy, shall provide security detachments for the protection of naval property at naval stations and bases, and shall perform such other duties as the President may direct. However, these additional duties may not detract from or interfere with the operations for which the Marine Corps is primarily organized.

Given that the president is defined as the Commander in Chief "of the Army and Navy of the United States..." by the Constitution and that fact that the Marines' dress code protocol says "the Commandant or higher authority" can authorize "articles that are not authorized for wear as a part of a regulation uniform," is the president considered a commander with this ability?

The spokesperson for the Marines said "certainly."

OFFICIAL IN CHARGE OF IRS OFFICE RESPONSIBLE FOR CONSERVATIVE TARGETING NOW HEADS AGENCY'S OBAMACARE OFFICE

Well, this can't be good.

It appears that the official who oversaw the Internal Revenue Service office responsible for
targeting conservative groups has moved on from that post and now heads the agency's Obamacare division.

The Internal Revenue Service official in charge of the tax-exempt organizations at the time when the unit targeted tea party groups now runs the IRS office responsible for the
health care legislation.

Sarah Hall Ingram served as commissioner of the office responsible for tax-exempt organizations between 2009 and 2012. But Ingram has since left that part of the IRS and is now the director of the IRS' Affordable Care Act office, the IRS confirmed to ABC News today.

Her successor, Joseph Grant, is taking the fall for misdeeds at the scandal-plagued unit between 2010 and 2012. During at least part of that time, Grant served as deputy commissioner of the tax-exempt unit.

Grant said Thursday he would resign as commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division on June 3, TheBlaze reported. He was appointed to the post just eight days ago.

Here's a May 8 press release announcing his extremely short-lived promotion:
Grant,
Kay Named to IRS Leadership Posts

IR-2013-47, May
8, 2013WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service today announced the selection of Joseph H. Grantas commissioner of the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division and Sheldon Kay as Chief of Appea ls. "Joseph and Shelly are strong leaders who will provide strong leadership and continuity in thesecritical parts of the IRS," said Steven T. Miller,

Before that, he was Chief Operating Officer and a Deputy Executive Director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC). Grant also served on the staff of the Oversightand Social Security subcommittees of the House Ways and Means Committee. In Appeals, Kay will serve as the Chief after serving as the Deputy Chief of Appeals since his returnto the IRS in May 2011.Kay was formerly a member of the Sutherland's Tax Practice Group, focusing on tax controversyissues, including IRS procedures, dispute resolutions and tax litigation matters. He also served asthe IRS District Counsel for the Georgia District
where he was the primary legal representative for theDistrict Director, the Director of the Atlanta Service Center, and the Chiefs of Appeals, Collection,Criminal Investigation and Examination Divisions. The mission of the IRS Appeals organization is to
resolve tax controversies, without litigation, on abasis which is fair and impartial to both the government and the taxpayer. Appeals handles andresolves more than 100,000 taxpayer cases a year

CCTV footage of violent armed carjacking where business owner protects himself taking out the carjacker, leaving him as a quivering blob of flesh.
Our current political cesspool led by the Obama administration would have you believe that protecting yourself is wrong. That the tools to properly defend yourself should be banned. The Obama Administration has been using horrible events where firearms were used illegally,to institute restrictions on legal ownership. Fact is, his leftist nonsense will only embolden illegal use of firearms. Tell Obama to quit kneejerking horrible events in the news and using them as a cheap political prop.

SEE SOME OF THE OUTRAGEOUS REQUESTS THE IRS MADE TO TEA PARTY GROUPS

onservative groups targeted by the the Internal Revenue Service were ordered to provide copies of their websites, social media postings, donor lists and much more in the still-emerging IRS scandal.

Politico reviewed documents from 11 such organizations and found they were asked deeply probing inquiries, including for one group, the "minutes of all board meetings since your creation."

"They were asking for a U-Haul truck's worth of information," Toby Marie Walker, president of the Waco Tea Party, told Politico. Her group was asked for copies of all its newsletters, any stories written about them, and transcripts of radio shows where they mentioned any political candidates by name.

The American Patriots Against Government Excess was asked for summaries of all material passed out during meetings. They had been reading the U.S. Constitution; the group's president mailed in a copy.

The inquiries were all in the name of the organizations' applications for tax-exempt status, yet the process for many stretched out for more than a year and a half.

Other groups were asked whether they had any tie to the Koch brothers-backed anti-tax organization Americans for Prosperity. The Liberty Township Tea Party was asked whether they knew a former leader of the Cincinnati Tea Party. That former leader, Justin Binik-Thomas, said he never worked with the Liberty group and has no idea why there were lumped together - though is worried now about being on the IRS's radar.

"Will my personal taxes get audited? Will my small-business taxes get audited? Am I a pawn to try to get at another group?" Binik-Thomas said to Politico. "There are a lot of people involved in the Tea Party. Why was I isolated from thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people? Why was I singled out?"

One conservative group, Linchpins of Liberty in Franklin, Tenn., gives talks to students. Founder and president Kevin Kookogey said the IRS wanted the names of everyone his group trained.

"Can you imagine my responsibility to parents if I disclosed the names of their children to the IRS?" Kookogey told the Daily Mail . He said the very thought "should send chills through your spine that the government would ask me to identify those I teach, and to provide details of what I teach them."
