May 17, 2013 12:26 PM

By JEFF KAROUB
Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan urged Detroit's pastors and majority black population Friday to join him in an effort to buy neglected properties and take other steps to help revitalize the struggling city where the movement started more than 80 years ago.

The fiery orator offered few specifics in a speech to the Detroit City Council, but made plain his displeasure with Gov. Rick Snyder's decision to appoint an emergency financial manager. He likened the takeover to buzzards circling over a carcass.

"The city abandoned, crime and violence rampant, and the governor has seen fit to take away the rights of the voting public," Farrakhan said, referring to putting someone in charge of the city's finances that wasn't elected. "I don't know what democracy really means if you can be given the right to vote and then somebody can take it away."

He said the city's downtown is "coming along pretty good" as its buildings are bought and renovated, but many other areas are "like a wasteland."

"But a wasteland always gives opportunities those who have a vision," he said.

Detroit's problems include high crime, joblessness and abandonment; its budget deficit is about $330 million and rising.

"Suppose we in leadership, the pastors of the city, stop arguing," he said. "Why shouldn't we come together and own Detroit?"

At the movement's annual convention in February, Farrakhan called on blacks nationwide to curb economic disparities by cutting back on excessive spending, pooling resources and investing in land. The Nation of Islam has more than 1,500 acres of farmland in Georgia, and leaders have said the group is looking to buy thousands more acres in the Midwest.

Now based in Chicago, the Nation of Islam was founded in 1930 in Detroit by Wallace D. Fard, who the movement says attracted blacks on the margins of society with a message of self-improvement and separation from whites.

The group, which promotes black empowerment and nationalism, was rebuilt by Farrakhan in the late 1970s.

He became notorious for calling Judaism a "gutter religion" and suggesting crack cocaine might have been a CIA plot to enslave blacks. Farrakhan has over the years denied claims of anti-Semitism, arguing his remarks are often taken out of context and that criticism of Jews in any light automatically earns the "anti-Semite" label.

His message on Friday was one of unity among races and religions, but he said he's focusing on African-Americans because they are city's majority population.

Farrakhan said it was important to return to Detroit "at a time of intense dark."

"We got to come home and help this city," he said.

Farrakhan also is scheduled to deliver an evening public address at Fellowship Chapel on the city's northwest side.

State sued over toddler's sex-reassignment surgery

May 18th, 2013 - In what may be the first lawsuit of its kind, a South Carolina couple is suing the state for performing sex-reassignment surgery on a toddler in its care.

Did the state overstep its bounds, or does the couple - who adopted the child soon after the surgery - need to drop the case?

Mark and Pam Crawford are the parents of a child that they adopted a few months after the state decided to perform sex-reassignment surgery on him. They contend that the surgery was not only unnecessary but is one that the child should have decided on for himself later in life - not by the state, and not at 16 months of age.

Intersex conditionThe child was born with intersex condition, which means that he could not be identified as either male or female. He was identified as male at birth, but soon after was discovered to have ambiguous genitals and also has internal male and female reproductive structures. It was decided to surgically alter him and declare him a girl. The lawsuit declares that the child had no medical need to be operated on and could have grown up as a healthy male or female.

"The state took something very special away from our son, and for no reason except for adults' inability to accept people who are born different," said Pam Crawford. She and the child's father said that he identifies himself as a boy and requested boy's clothing and a boy's haircut.

Horrifying decisionMost parents we spoke with felt that the state had way overstepped its bounds by deciding to operate on a child, especially one so young.

"My heart breaks for this poor little boy," related Bethany, mom of one. "If his external parts were boy parts, why not just leave them and call him a boy? If I had a child born with this condition, even if the child had both parts on the outside, I would leave him/her alone until they decided what their gender is."

Taryn, mom of two, agreed. "I feel had it been my child I would have waited until they were old enough to choose their gender," she explained. "I would not want to feel responsible for creating a lifelong struggle with their identity. How could this possibly have been in the child's best interest?"

Taryn also lamented the fact that children in foster or state care may not have anyone advocating for them. "I find it shocking the state was allowed to make such a major decision," she said.

Suing for damages is the right thing to do?Other parents - in addition to feeling outrage that the surgery was performed in the first place - felt that the parents were absolutely right to sue the state. "Their decision has probably caused the child more emotional trauma than would have had making the decision for ," shared Molly, expecting her second child. "Now he'll have to undergo yet another operation (if he chooses) to feel how he views himself. That makes me sad. If I were his parent I would probably sue just to have a future operation covered (again if he chooses) and for any therapy he would need."

The parents are seeking damages but are leaving the amount up to the court, and their lawyers said it may be the first case of its type in the nation. The couple hopes that this case, whatever the result, will be a wakeup call to physicians and those in charge of children in state care - they are people, and deserve to be advocated for.

Airplane Newark US Airways Express Lands On His Belly

A frightening scene caught on camera as a passenger plane made an emergency leading at newark airport overnight without its landing gear. Sparks seen shooting from the plane as the pilot was forced to make a belly landing at one of the nation's largest airports with dozens of passengers on board. Abc's lisa stark is here with the details.
Lisa how common are emergency landings like this one? Reporter: Bianna, they aren't uncommon. Piles can prepare for them in the simulator although they always look very dramatic and obviously you'd rather land with your landing gear.
Let's take a look at what happened last night. It was at newark at 1:00 in the morning this pilot coming in for a dramatic landing. You can see srks were flying.
The pilot did a great job keeping that turboprop on the runway and the wings level. Fire and rescue crews were standing by. They immediately foamed the runway, foamed that plane to make sure there was no fire.
31 passengers on board, three crew members, everyone, everyone got out safely. Us airways flight coming from philadelphia, it had taken off about 10:50 in the evening. It was supposed to be just a short hop to newark.
The pilot finanding gear is not working. The pilots then circle the tower for awhile while controllers and the crew tried to trouble shoot and reports now that the pilots decided, okay, we got to get all this landing gear up if we can't get it all down and come in on our belly. That's exactly what they did.
That plane apparently still on the runway. These pictures taken just moments ago. They're going to move it off the runway and what cording to us airways investigators with the national transportation safety board already on the scene there trying to figure out just what went wrong with this plane.
That's right, the ntsb busy at work this morning. But how prepared are pilots for this type of situation and how did this pilot manage to land the plane without any injuries to the passengers? Reporter: Well, the pilot did a great job.
They are somewhat prepared for this. They can practice this in the simulator. You may remember back in 2005 there was a really scary incident down at l.A. X. Airport in los angeles where a jetblue came in with its landing gear crooked.
It was actually in the wrong position, sparks were flying there too. Everyone landed safely. Got out safely.

Gear-up emergency landing of a US Airways Express, operated by Piedmont, DeHavilland Dash-8-100 at Newark Liberty International Airport. 01:10am May 18 2010. No injuries reported.

It is official news now. Justin Bieber's pet monkey Mally has been confiscated by German authorities because Bieber failed to declare the imported animal during his last stay in the central European nation.

Bieber seems to have lost interest in Mally as he failed to pay the fines (several thousand Euros) that was issued by the Germans, and he failed to fill out the required paperwork on time.

Mally spent the last 4 weeks in an animal prison, as ridiculous as that sounds, and will now most likely be transferred to a German zoo where he'll be spending the rest of his life.

The final part of VICE' documentary on the war in Afghanistan and highlights the incompetence of the Afghan National Army. This is part 3 of 3.

The other two parts can be found here.
Part 1 - http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=b24_1368637580
Part 2 - http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=1de_1368742142

"This Is What Winning Looks Like" is a disturbing new documentary about
the ineptitude, drug abuse, sexual misconduct, and corruption of the
Afghan security forces as well as the reduced role of US Marines due to
the troop withdrawal. In part three, we see that the sad truth is, at
the end of the day, we will be leaving behind ill-prepared security
forces, which will likely lead to an increase in Taliban attacks,
civilian casualties, and, overall, an increasingly dangerous and fragile
nation.

God vs. Gov't: What Does the Constitution Really Say About the Separation of Church and State?

God vs. Gov't: What Does the Constitution Really Say About the Separation of Church and State? What does the U.S. Constitution - specifically the First Amendment - really say about the separation of church and state?

This question has been at the center of public debate for decades, as atheist activists, in particular, have advanced the notion that the nation's founders envisioned a particularly fervent imposition of the segregation of God and government. But is this really the case?

Dr. John Eastman, a distinguished law professor at Chapman University, told TheBlaze that he believes these non-believers have their story wrong.

"They think the phrase separation of church and state is the First Amendment," he said, going on to note that these words don't appear anywhere in the U.S. Constitution.

Just in case you need a refresher, the amendment reads:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

The first line creates the most contention, as it involves two separate religious articles - the Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses. It is the former that most atheist activists tend to focus on, and according to Eastman, their assessments are generally wrong-headed.

Rather than a decry waged against any inclusion of faith in the public square, the professor claims that this portion of the document speaks against a state-imposed faith.

"It tells us that you don't want a national religion - a state-coerced national religion, a one-size-fits-all, everybody-has-to-join ," he said of the Establishment Clause, going on to highlight a bit of history. " were concerned that with a strong national government there would be a national religion ... they wanted to allow the states a free hand to collaborate religion in their important work of fostering a citizenry."

Eastman called the provision one that was rooted in federalism. Over the past 50 years, he charged the U.S. Supreme Court with misunderstanding the Establishment Clause to mean that religion must be removed entirely from public life. Atheist activists have seized upon this interpretation as well.

"We're on the threshold of success," he said, though, of reversing the trend.

As far as nativities on courthouse lawns and other similar religious imagery goes, Eastman said that communities should be allowed to express their views so long as citizens are not being coerced by the government to subscribe to specific ideologies.

By Colbert King
East Germany's Ministry for State Security, also known as the Stasi, posed a major challenge during my three-year stint as an attache at the U.S. Embassy in Bonn during the 1960s. Detecting and preventing Stasi agents from penetrating the security of U.S. diplomatic facilities in West Germany was a 24-7 undertaking.

The East German secret police were even more ruthless and relentless in operations against their own citizens. Political suppression in that communist state was total. There was no room for dissent. Thousands of East Germans were arbitrarily imprisoned for "internal security" reasons.

So it was especially galling to learn upon returning to the states in 1969 that the FBI had a counterintelligence program, known as COINTELPRO, that was, in some ways, as pernicious as the threat we were working against overseas.

Senate hearings in the 1970s revealed that the FBI, under the guise of protecting national security, had treated rights guaranteed by the First Amendment as little more than a collection of antiquated wishes best ignored.

With its surveillance of citizens, infiltration of civil rights groups and disruption of legal activities, the FBI's counterintelligence program echoed the behavior of East Germany's Stasi. The FBIacknowledges on its Web site that "COINTELPRO was later rightfully criticized by Congress and the American people for abridging first amendment rights and for other reasons."

Fortunately, Congress reined in the FBI, placing it behind, and not beyond, the Constitution.

Where are we now?

The revelations that the Justice Department had secretly seized journalists' phone records and that the Internal Revenue Service had targeted conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status show that government's heavy hand has not been lifted. Are these examples of COINTELPRO revisited?

Not quite, though they are disturbing.

Governments spend millions to prevent secrets from falling into enemy hands. A Justice Department probe into a compromised Middle East intelligence operation last year was not focused on the surreptitious work of a foreign power. The unlawful disclosure came from within.

The Justice Department sought to discover who in the U.S. government allegedly told the Associated Press about a failed al-Qaeda plot in Yemen.

The compromised Yemeni operation differs from some breakdowns in national security for its cause. Chalk up that serious breach to hubris: the leaker's puerile chest-thumping about having bested a sworn enemy or, worse, a self-serving desire to burnish the Obama administration's credentials as an al-Qaeda slayer.

In this regard, the administration has only itself to blame.

On top of the mistakes made by a U.S. official leaking the nation's secrets, the administration compounded things by launching a dragnet for the records of callsreceived and made from 20 phone lines (including office, home and cell numbers) of the AP journalists in five area codes and three states.

Talk about power running amok.

Meanwhile, back in the bureaucracy, Internal Revenue Service workers were having a high old time putting conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status through hoops. IRS employees were instructed to be on the "lookout" for groups with "tea party" and "patriot" in their names, according to the report of the Treasury Department's inspector general for tax administration.

The acting IRS commissioner has already been forced to walk the plank, and more heads may roll. The IRS has a steep hill to climb to gain the public's trust. But there is one bright spot: This misbehavior was detected and exposed by government self-policing. Of course, the selective screening never should have occurred. But the inspector general system created to ferret out government fraud, waste and abuse worked in this case.

The Justice Department, meanwhile, is in an even deeper hole.

Who can take seriously the department's mission, as stated by its Office of Privacy and Civil Liberties, "to protect the privacy and civil liberties of the American people"?

Famed First Amendment lawyer Floyd Abrams told the Daily Beast this week that the Justice Department's broad seizure of journalists' phone records was "certainly one of the most intense intrusions by the government into a pressroom that I can remember."

"Why couldn't they put this issue before a judge?" Abrams asked. "What they have done is foreclose any meaningful response by the AP. This isn't just seeking a record of one journalist for one day. This is breaking and entering into the heart of the journalistic process of the Associated Press."

Media outlets covering D.C. affairs should also be concerned. Journalists who draw on confidential sources while aggressively covering the city's corruption scandal may now wonder if U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen is going after their phone records. After all, it was Machen's office that served the subpoenas in the AP case.

COINTELPRO? No. Unchecked government power? Yes.

Right from when the nation, Nigeria got independence in 1960 there has being rivalry among the two major religious groups the Christians and Muslims. Nigeria which is mainly divided between the south and the north, the southern parts of Nigeria are predominantly Christians while the northern parts of the country are predominantly Muslim with minority Christians. The struggle for one dominates religion in Nigeria has being highly pronounced in the northern part of the country that is mainly dominated by the Muslims. This has led to constant terrorization and violence against the minority Christians in the northern part of the country, while the Christians on their part are busy praying and preaching the gospel of peace to convert the Muslim to become Christians. The present Boko- Haram bombing and killings of Christians in their places of worship has not being the only treat to Islamize the nation of Nigeria. The Christian community has experience past cases of the introduction of sharia law into the Nigeria constitution like that of the year 2000 that was rejected by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and other religious groups that are non-Muslim. There has being different attempt by past Muslim military leaders to make Nigeria recognize as a Muslim Nation which by the grace of God never see the light of the day.

Before this Boko-Haram crisis started in Nigeria, the man in the synagogue, TB Joshua, forewarned the nation of Nigeria about a vision of a disaster God has shown to him, that will befall the nation of Nigeria. This prophecy was given in the year 2010 the same year when this Boko-haram bombing started, when the prophet made this prophecy the whole nation where calling him prophet of doom instead of coming together to pray and see if the prophecy given by the man of God can be change, but they started castigating the prophet and calling him all sorts of name. Even other men of God capitalize on it to start prophesying greatness for the nation so that the public will say they are genuine men of God whereas that was not what was on board at that moment. But of a true the outcome later tell who is right and wrong; who is speaking of God and of himself. READ MORE

EU donates EUR 5 billion to islamic fundamentalist regime in Egypt

http://europegonemad.wordpress.com/2013/05/17/eu-donates-e-5-billion-to-islamic-fundamentalist-regime-in-egypt/

EU donates EUR 5 billion to islamic fundamentalist regime in Egypt

The European Union decided to give EUR 5.000.000.000 (yes, 5 billion!) to Egypt, to support the process of democratisation in the country.

Let's see what that really means.

The new powers in Egypt want to introduce Sharia, which means woman, christians (koptic), etc.. will be surpressed; and freedom of speech will be non-existing.

Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi officially signed into law a new constitution drafted by his own Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist groups, and which critics say has effectively placed Egypt under strict Sharia Law.

Morsi said now that the new constitution is in place, he can focus on fixing Egypt's internal problems. But others say it will only exacerbate internal divisions and transform Egypt into a pariah state on par with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

While Morsi claims the new constitution contains rights and protections for all Egyptians, its vagueness in certain areas and overt Islamic flavor has lead many to fear that radical Muslim clerics are going to play an increasingly influential role in Egypt, while minority groups and women will suffer.

"It's a disaster," female Egyptian lawyer Nihad Abu El Konsam told German media. "There isn't a single article in the draft constitution that mentions the rights of women."

"This constitution will set Egypt 100 years back," added Abu El Konsam, noting that the Muslim Brotherhood had purposely left "open doors" that will result in Egyptians being placed under an extremist form of Islamic rule.

Hamdeen Sabahi, an opposition leader who placed third in Egypt's presidential election, said the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamists have "stolen" Egypt's pro-democracy revolution, but he remains hopeful that they can be toppled.

In the meantime, "Morsi may have been elected democratically, but he is not governing democratically," charged Sabahi in an interview with the Associated Press.

Evidence of that was seen in Morsi's reaction to ongoing opposition to his new constitution even after it passed the referendum. The president issued a thinly-veiled warning that public demonstrations against his rule must end, because the people were tired of it.

Morsi tried to accuse all who oppose him of being responsible for the nation's continuing economic woes, a tried and true tactic used by all of recent history's most successful despots.

The threats seemed to be working. While the run-up to the referendum saw hundreds of thousands protesting daily in central Cairo and even marching on the presidential palace, now that it has been signed into law very few are taking to the streets.

As for the European Union: the Task Force, co-chaired by EU High Representative Catherine Ashton and Egyptian Foreign Minister Kamel Amr declared: "In support of the ongoing democratic transformation, Egypt and the EU will work together to overcome the socio-economic challenges, thus setting an example for the region and beyond."

Catherine Ashton said she was delighted with the results of the Task Force: "The past two days confirm the EU as Egypt's main partner in its historic transition. The Task Force is a new type of European diplomacy, mobilising all EU assets and working with both the public and private sectors."

The European Union committed also to provide additional financial support to Egypt worth nearly EUR800 million for 2012-2013 (EUR303 million in grants and EUR450 million in loans). This is on top of the EUR449 million already provided for the period 2011-13.

The European Investment Bank announced potential lending of up to EUR1.7 billion for 2012-13, and a new Task Force fund, which can provide funds of up to EUR60 million for countries in transition.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development confirmed the start of operations in Egypt and announced plans for lending of up to EUR1 billion per year

What kind of presidential candidate can we expect from Republicans in 2016?

2011 was a banner year in stupidity, craziness, and fright from the Republican Party. With seven candidates vying to be more conservative than each other, the atmosphere was perfect for insanity. Throughout the year, each candidate made comments that proved just how out of touch, ignorant, and dangerous the right wing has truly become. It's hard to choose which quotes to list but here are just 25, brought to you by Michele Bachmann, Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, and Newt Gingrich.

"They can get married. They can marry a man if they're a woman. Or they can marry a woman if they're a man."
~Michele Bachmann, on whether or not homosexuals can get married.

"The more toppings a man has on his pizza, I believe the more manly he is. A manly man don't want it piled high with vegetables! He would call that a sissy pizza."
~Herman Cain, on manliness. Too bad House Republicans declared pizza a vegetable, and therefore declared Cain, a sissy.

"Our nation needs to stop doing for people what they can and should do for themselves. Self reliance means, if anyone will not work, neither should he eat."
~Michele Bachmann, saying the unemployed should starve.

"Our Founding Fathers never meant for Washington, D.C. to be the fount of all wisdom. As a matter of fact they were very much afraid if that because they'd just had this experience with this far-away government that had centralized thought process and planning and what have you, and then it was actually the reason that we fought the revolution in the 16th century was to get away from that kind of onerous crown if you will."
~Rick Perry, incorrectly stating that the American Revolution occurred during the 1500s. It actually occurred in the 1770s and ended in 1781.

"One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country. It's not okay. It's a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. is supposed to be within marriage. It's supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal...but also procreative. That's the perfect way that a sexual union should happen...This is special and it needs to be seen as special."
~Rick Santorum, opposing contraception and frighteningly suggesting that he would love to make pre-marital sex illegal.

"There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate."
~Newt Gingrich, blaming his many affairs on his patriotism.
