May 17, 2013 -The booming tourism industry aimed at putting people on the peak of Mt. Everest has radically changed the lives of Nepal's Sherpas. National Geographic Young Explorer and photographer Max Lowe recently spent two months in Nepal's Khumbu region, documenting some of those changes.

Gurkha fights 40 dacoits in Indian Train

I havent's seen this story here in Live Leak. For those who likes badass stories you might like this one. Another one of those legendary stories about these brave people of Nepal. Indians should respect all Nepalese instead of just Gurkhas. And stay away from our women and children you perverts. Sorry for the rant.

Bishnu Shrestha wasn't looking for a fight on the evening of 2 September
2010. As his express train roared through the darkness of the jungles
of West Bengal, this Nepalese ex-soldier sat quietly, looking out the
window into the calm stillness of the night sky above. The 35 year old
veteran was finally on his way back home, having just retired from his
position as a Naik (Corporal) in the 7th Battalion of the 8th Gurkha
Infantry - a famous, battle-hardened regiment of ass-whompers that had
produced balls-out awesome war heroes like Lachhiman Gurung ,
and a unit in which Shrestha's own father had served during Vietnam.
One in a long line of warriors, Bishnu himself had seen plenty of combat
in Iraq, Afghanistan, and probably a half-dozen other locations that
may never be declassified, and now, after having spent a good part of
his adult life crushing his foes with the stock of his assault rifle and
charging enemy positions armed with a bayonet and his ultra-badass
kukri knife, he was looking forward to finally seeing an end to the
constant fighting, settling down, and building a family in the quiet
mountains of his homeland. On this evening he rode the Maurya Express, a
passenger train appropriately sharing it's name with historical badass
Chandragupta Maurya, enjoying the serenity of the Indian night.

India, China facing off as Tibet is no longer a buffer zone: Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay

In his rare appearance before a Washington audience, the head of the Tibetan administration in exile said that though he has no complaints or regrets, but he wish India could have done more for Tibet.
India and China are increasingly facing off each other because Tibet is no longer a "buffer zone" between them, the leader of Tibet's exiled government has said, noting that "pre-1949 there was hardly even a policeman on the border".

Highlighting the importance of the strategic Himalayan region for India, Tibetan Prime Minister Lobsang Sangay said, "There was never incursion in '40s and '30s because India and China were never next to each other. Tibet always served as the buffer zone. Now they are facing off each other."

Tibet, he said, is geopolitically very important and referred to the recent, Chinese Army incursion in Indian territory.

The head of the Tibetan administration in exile said that though he has no complaints or regrets, but he wish India could have done more for Tibet. However, he did not elaborate it.

"Tibet is very much linked to India's security. The 4,000, to 5,000 kilometres of border that we have with, China has always been the threat, so hence the border dispute. Pre-1949 there was hardly even a policeman on the border. There was no need for one," he said on Wednesday.

"Now, the military buildup that is going on and the billions of dollars India has spent on its border security, which could rather be spent on other humanitarian or educational projects. So India's security is very much linked to Tibet issue.

"The Chinese government in China says Tibet is one of their core issues. And all the more, India should say Tibet is one of the core issues for India, as well," Sangay said in response to a question at the Council on Foreign Relations, a Washington-based Indian think-tank.

"Now the military buildup is very high. According to Indian media reports, there are 23 military division on the Chinese side or the Tibet side, 11 military division on the Indian side; five military airfields on Tibet side, only one airfield on the Indian side; and China has build a seaport in Pakistan, they're building one in Sri Lanka, attempting to build one in Bangladesh and Burma," he said.

"Thereby India is surrounded by sea, air now. With the train from Beijing to Golmud to Lhasa onto Shigatze to Nepal, maybe to border of Bangladesh also. So by sea, air and land, the two countries are facing each other. Historically, it was not the case. And it's geopolitically very important," the Tibetan leader said.

Responding to a question, the democratically elected Tibetan leader, who was born and brought up in India said that he wished New Delhi could have done more.

"I was born and brought up in India. India has done the most for Tibetans because largest number of Tibetans are in India. The Tibetan administration also is in India. And also on humanitarian ground, India does more than any country in this planet for Tibetans. So we always say India is our host; we are their guest," he said.

"As for Indian tradition a guest should be content with what he was provided, so we don't want to complain. But given a choice, we wish India does more than what it does. But it's not a demand. It is not a complaint. It is just a request because actually, they do the most for us," he said.

"As far as my administration is concerned and the Indian leadership, we have very good relationship in the last 18 months or so. Even though I left America for 16 years, I built a very good relationship, and I've seen firsthand how much sympathy and support the Indian people and the leadership have for Tibet. So India is doing a very good job. Now, we wish they do more," Sangay said.

Tenzing-Hillary Airport (VNLK) also known as Lukla Airport.
Elevation: 9,383 ft / 2,860 m
Runways: 06/24 Length: 460 m / 1,500 ft Surface: Asphalt
Runway 06 is only used for landings and Runway 24 is only used for take-offs.
Due to the elevation of the terrain surrounding this airport, there is no possibility of a successful go-around or short-final. There is high terrain immediately after the northern end of the runway and a steeply angled drop, of about 2,000 m (6,600 ft) at the southern end of the runway, into the valley below. The airport is popular because Lukla is the place where most people start the climb to Mount Everest Base Camp. It is also rated as the most dangerous airport in the world.
It's one hell of an airport!
