Voter intimidation refusal to prosecute black panthers, Fast and
Furious, AP wiretap, Fox News wiretap, refusal to use special
prosecutors which were demanded when Bush was in office, lying under

How many examples such as this video does one need before concluding that Obama is a complete fraud?

The Washington TimesTerrorism analysts are rebutting President Obama's assertion that the "scale of the threat" from Islamic terrorists has reverted to pre-Sept. 11, 2001, levels."This is a total fabrication," said Steven Emerson , whose Investigative Project on Terrorism tracks radical Islam. "The 'scale of this threat' in the 1990s never closely resembled the terrorist attacks post 9/11. This is an outright lie."

The Heritage Foundation has been cataloguing foiled terror attacks post-9/11 by Islamic groups. The number: 54.

James Carafano , a military analyst at Heritage , said the 1990s' numbers "were a fraction of that."

Mr. Obama on Thursday delivered a speech at the National Defense University that came close to declaring victory over al Qaeda , saying it is now operating franchise groups.

He also declared an end to the global campaign against terrorism, saying the U.S. would focus on individual cells.

"As we shape our response, we have to recognize that the scale of this threat closely resembles the types of attacks we faced before 9/11," the president said.

Before the Boston Marathon bombing, allegedly conducted by two jihadists, the U.S. was the target of at least five Muslim attacks since 2009 (two of which succeeded) whose plots went undetected by the FBI or CIA:

o Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad opened fire at a military recruiting office in Little Rock, Ark., in June 2009, killing one soldier.

o Najibullah Zazi, who said he was a member of al Qaeda , tried to detonate bombs in New York City's subway in September 2009.

o Army Maj. Nadal Malik Hassan opened fire at a soldier processing center at Fort Hood, Texas, killing 13.

o Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to explode a bomb hidden in his underwear onboard a flight to Detroit in December 2009.

o Faisal Shahzad attempted to detonate a car bomb in Times Square in May 2010.

Mr. Emerson said the U.S. homeland faced no such consistent Islamic plots in the 1990s.

"In terms of the number of attacks, it's like a 100-to-1 what has happened post-9/11 compared with pre-9/11," he said.

Said the Heritage report: "The long war on terrorism is far from over."

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a "flat-out, bald-faced lie" that Obama didn't know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election.

Levin said, "I don't believe for two seconds that Obama wasn't aware of this." He played the audio of Obama saying he learned about it from news reports, and immediately shot back by saying tea partiers in early 2012 voiced concerns the IRS was targeting them. He cited the Washington Examiner , CNS News, and Fox News as examples of outlets that picked up on the news much earlier, as well as himself, saying if he knew about it, Obama must have known.

"It is a flat-out lie that he first learned about the targeting of conservative and tea party groups on that Friday a few weeks ago when it became public. It had been public long before that!"

Levin replayed the clip of Obama and reiterated that the president told a "flat-out, bald-faced lie." He also tore into the "diabolical Carl Levin," who "prodded many investigations" into conservative groups along with Al Franken and others. Levin called them "good little fascists" who "just wanted to put their opposition out of business." Levin also had some harsh words for the Republicans over their "incompetence and timidity" in waiting so long to pursue this scandal.

Fox News Host Tells Listeners to Punch <span class="highlight">Obama</span> Voters 'in the Face'

A host of the Fox News show The Five was so angry that the Justice Department had investigated
one of the network's reporters that she told her viewers on Thursday to
find anyone who voted for President Barack Obama and "punch them in the
face."
"Fox said, we're targets, clearly Media Matters and others have put
us on a target list," Fox News host Andrea Tantaros explained on the
Thursday edition of her radio show. "And they said, 'Oh, Fox is just
crazy! They're just paranoid!' Really? Are we?"
"This is what is happening to our press! This is Obama's America!
It's like the Soviet Union," she continued. "He said he would change the
country. He said it. And a lot of people voted for him."
"And if you see any of those people today, do me a favor, punch them in the face."

After a commercial break, a caller from South Carolina told Tantaros
that he hated Obama, but worried that telling people to punch Obama
voters in the face was sending the wrong message.
"To be clear, I didn't say punch Obama in the face," the Fox News
host pointed out. "You're going to get me arrested with this type of
government."
"If someone voted for him!" she insisted to the caller. "If anyone that you know who voted for President Obama, smack 'em down."

Posted 06:47 PM ET
First Amendment: Even Barack Obama's cheerleaders are gagging at the latest news of spying on reporters. But will they also understand that this is just part of a much broader attack on freedom?

The president told Ohio State graduates three weeks ago to tune out those who warn that "tyranny is always lurking just around the corner." Since then - pardon our paranoia - the news has been thick with warnings.

First was the revelation that the Internal Revenue Service had been targeting conservative groups for extra scrutiny. Next came the news that the Department of Justice had seized two months of phone records at the Associated Press to track down leaks that led to a 2012 story about a foiled al-Qaida bombing plot.

Then it was revealed Justice not only spied on Fox News reporter James Rosen but also labeled him a "co-conspirator and/or aider and abettor" in an espionage case. His "crime" was cajoling a State Department source into giving him information - that is, reporting.

By this point, some of Obama's most loyal defenders are wondering if he's really the "fierce defender of the First Amendment" that his spokesman Jay Carney says he is. The New York Times declared that the administration "has moved beyond protecting government secrets to threatening fundamental freedoms of the press to gather news." Strong stuff, considering the source.

Even stronger is the judgment of James C. Goodale, the lawyer who represented the Times in the Pentagon Papers case. Goodale says the Rosen case "is a further example of how President Obama will surely pass President Richard Nixon as the worst president ever on issues of national security and press freedom."

Goodale gets what many liberals still can't bring themselves to believe - Obama really has no love for the First Amendment. His administration treats freedom of the press as a reward for good behavior, not a sacred right. Up to now, the media have mostly behaved, with a few exceptions such as Fox News. They're now finding out that, when they do take their role as public watchdogs seriously, the administration bares its teeth.

It isn't just press freedom that Obama sees as a problem. The free exercise of religion is also suspect in his view. His tussle with the Catholic Church over birth control coverage is one sign, but not the only one.

In 2011, his administration tried unsuccessfully to get the Supreme Court to kill the longstanding doctrine of "ministerial exception" that exempts churches from anti-discrimination laws.

The case provoked little mainstream-media outrage at the time, and our guess is that the administration will keep trying to weaken churches that don't hew to its idea of the people's will.

This is how tyranny advances: The government progressively limits the freedom of institutions that can challenge its moral authority (the churches) or that reveal inconvenient facts (the press).

The more it succeeds at this, the more it controls what people know and how they think.

This scenario has been unfolding for some time now. A few in the media noticed it early. More are noticing it now. This is one story they must not drop.

Posted 07:10 PM ET
War On Terror: As jihadists bomb Boston, behead a soldier in London and firebomb police in Sweden, President Obama has decided America's actions have offended them and it's time to retreat.

In arguably the weakest national security speech by a commander in chief, Obama denied Thursday that our terrorist enemy is inspired by Islam - while at the same time appeasing Islamic critics by apologizing for drone strikes and agreeing to throttle back on such precision bombings, and close down the terrorist prison at Guantanamo.

He vowed to wind down further military actions in the war on terror, arguing he can protect America through law enforcement actions, instead, as if the threat comes from bank robbers or other common criminals.

His mea culpas and capitulations will only embolden the Islamist enemy. In case you missed the interminably long and rambling speech, here are some of its many pusillanimous lowlights:

o "Force alone cannot make us safe. We cannot use force everywhere that a radical ideology takes root; and in the absence of a strategy that reduces the wellspring of extremism, a perpetual war - through drones or Special Forces or troop deployments - will prove self-defeating."

o "So the next element of our strategy involves addressing the underlying grievances and conflicts that feed extremism."

o "In Iraq and Afghanistan ... thousands of civilians have been killed."

o "Much of the criticism about drone strikes understandably centers on reports of civilian casualties ... It is a hard fact that U.S. strikes have resulted in civilian casualties. And for the families of those civilians, no words or legal construct can justify their loss ... those deaths will haunt us as long as we live, just as we are haunted by the civilian casualties that have occurred throughout conventional fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq."

o "By the end of 2014, we will no longer have the same need for force protection (in the Afghanistan theater), and the progress we've made against core al-Qaida will reduce the need for unmanned strikes."

o "America does not take strikes when we have the ability to capture individual terrorists; our preference is always to detain, interrogate and prosecute."

o "America does not take (drone) strikes to punish individuals" for past terrorist acts; "we act against terrorists who pose a continuing and imminent threat to the American people."

o "Targeted action against terrorists, effective partnerships, diplomatic engagement and assistance - through such a comprehensive strategy we can significantly reduce the chances of large-scale attacks on the homeland."

o "It is false to assert that putting boots on the ground is less likely to result in civilian deaths or less likely to create enemies in the Muslim world."

o "By narrowly targeting our action against those who want to kill us and not the people they hide among, we are choosing the course of action least likely to result in the loss of innocent life."

o "For what we spent in a month in Iraq at the height of the war, we could be ... feeding the hungry in Yemen, building schools in Pakistan, and creating reservoirs of goodwill that marginalize extremists. That has to be part of our strategy."

o "And the best way to prevent violent extremism inspired by violent jihadists is to work with the Muslim American community - which has consistently rejected terrorism."

o "Even after Boston - we do not deport someone or throw somebody in prison in the absence of evidence."

o "Gitmo has become a symbol around the world for an America that flouts the rule of law."

"This war must end."

Not 48 hours before he uttered those final words, an al-Qaida-inspired jihadist who decapitated a war veteran in the streets of London vowed to keep up the attacks on the West.

"We swear by almighty Allah that we will never stop fighting you," said the 29-year-old alleged murdering British Muslim, blood dripping from his butcher's knife. "You will never be safe."

If this president has his way, he may be right.

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden met in the Oval Office on Tuesday with three people who are in the country in violation of U.S. immigration laws but who have received "deferred action" allowing them to stay in the country under the terms of a "memorandum" issued unilaterally last year by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.

While conceding that she had no legal authority to change the "immigration status" of illegal aliens or provide them with a "pathway to citizenship," Napolitano instructed the top officials at Customs and Border Protection, Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement to use what she called "prosecutorial discretion" in not enforcing the immigration laws against certain classes of immigration lawbreakers.

These included illegal aliens who arrived in the United States before their sixteenth birthday, had graduated from high school or served in the military, had not been convicted of "significant" or "multiple" misdemeanors, and had not yet turned thirty.

Before Napolitano issued this unilateral order allowing the illegal aliens to remain in the country in violation of the law, President Obama's allies in Congress had failed to secure passage of the Dream Act, which would have allowed such persons to became legal residents in the United States.

In all, Obama and Biden met on Tuesday with eight people who are advocating immigration reform, according to White House readout of the meeting. The White House readout listed three of those as having received "deferred action." Most others were legally in the United States with relatives who were illegal aliens.

A White House blog entry on the meeting included an official White House photograph of it that carried a caption describing some of the attendees as people "who have received Deferred Action and U.S. citizen family members of undocumented immigrants."

"At the meeting, the president reiterated his commitment to passing a bipartisan, commonsense immigration reform bill this year," said the White House readout of the meeting. "He made clear that while the current bill is not perfect, it does represent an important step towards the broad principles that need to be part of any immigration reform package."

On Tuesday, the Senate Judiciary Committee sent an immigration bill to the full Senate. It includes what its supporters call a "pathway to citizenship," and what its opponents call "amnesty."

"The President and the Vice President thanked participants for their leadership, courage and on-going efforts to move immigration reform legislation forward," said the White House statement about the president's Tuesday meeting.
"The Dreamers shared how their lives have been positively affected by the deferred action process and emphasized that they and their families need a permanent solution that will allow them to fully contribute to the country they call home."

The White House listed the following people as having participated:

- "Angie Kim. Angie is a South Korean immigrant who resides in New York, New York; she received deferred action."

- "Kevin Lee. Kevin is a South Korean immigrant who received deferred action. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California. Both of his parents are undocumented."

- "Justino Mora. Justino received deferred action; he currently resides in Los Angeles, California."

- "Diana Colin. Diana is a legal permanent resident who currently resides in Los Angeles, California. One of her brothers received deferred action."

- "Kate Kahan, Legislative Director, Center for Community Change. Kate is the Legislative Director for the Center for Community Change, a national social justice organization that is a member of the Alliance for Citizenship coalition in support of commonsense immigration reform."

- "Miguel Leal. Miguel is a U.S. citizen who resides in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. He is an Iraq war veteran. Miguel is an immigrant from Cuba; his wife in undocumented."

- "Mehdi Mahraoui. Mehdi came to the United States from Morocco when he was 7 years old. He is a legal permanent resident and lives in New York, New York. His parents and his older sister remain undocumented."

- "Melissa McGuire-Maniau. Melissa's husband is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico. Melissa is a U.S. veteran; she and her husband reside in Winter Park, Florida."

Bob Dane, spokesman for the Federation of Americans for Immigration Reform, said this shows disrespect for the law from the president who swore to uphold the laws of the United States.

"It's staged to reinforce the one message that for this president is unambiguous - violating immigration laws now, in and of themselves, is just entirely inconsequential," Dane told CNSNews.com.

"The laws will not be enforced, and the public just needs to get used to it. Illegal aliens are here. They're proud. They're not going anywhere, and they can sit and stand anywhere they want, including the United States Capitol and the White House, and this president will bend the laws to suit their circumstances, and his political needs, with no regard whatsoever for American workers and taxpayers," he added.

The union of law enforcement officers charged with protecting our nation's borders, the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council, has been highly critical of the program because it makes their jobs almost impossible to perform. But Obama has refused to meet with them on that issue, or the immigration bill currently in the Senate.

On Thursday, Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., co-signed a letter to Obama asking him to meet with the ICE officers.

"To be effective any immigration reform bill must heed the warnings from our federal immigration agents," the letter reads. "Unfortunately, far from being included in the process, ICE officers have been shut out and have even had their day-to-day operations handcuffed by DHS officials to the point of being unable to carry out their sworn duties. These brave whistleblowers have been left with no other option but to file a lawsuit in federal court to fight the abuse of power from DHS leadership."

Press Freedom: The president worries about the "chilling effect" of leak investigations as his attorney general signs the warrant labeling a Fox News reporter as a violator of the Espionage Act. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

'I am troubled by the possibility that leak investigations may chill the investigative journalism that holds government accountable," President Obama said with a straight face in a speech Thursday at the National Defense University. "Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs."

Indeed, investigative reporting should not be a criminal offense - just ask Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, whose digging unearthed Watergate.

Now comes the hysterically funny part:

"I have raised these issues with the attorney general, who shares my concern. So he has agreed to review existing Department of Justice guidelines governing investigations that involve reporters, and will convene a group of media organizations to hear their concerns as part of that review. And I have directed the attorney general to report back to me by July 12."

Well, Mr. President, you won't have to wait until July 12 to find out. NBC News has reported that your attorney general, Eric Holder, personally signed off on a controversial search warrant that identified Fox News reporter James Rosen as a "possible co-conspirator" in violations of the Espionage Act and authorized seizure of his private emails.

In an affidavit in support of a search warrant obtained by FBI Agent Reginald B. Reyes to secure Rosen's Google emails, it was stated:

"There is probable cause to believe that the reporter has committed a violation" of the Espionage Act "at the very least, either as an aider, abettor and/or co-conspirator of Mr. Kim."

Kim is State Department intelligence analyst Stephen Kim, who has been indicted on charges that he leaked to Rosen classified information regarding North Korea's plans to launch more nuclear tests.

Unlike Fast and Furious, the administration's "gun walking" operation that supplied Mexican drug cartels with semi-automatic weapons, which Holder said he never got a memo about, or the seizure of Associated Press emails, a case in which Holder claimed he recused himself, the attorney general cannot explain away the warrant that virtually accuses Rosen of being a traitor.

Justice Department defenders argue that naming Rosen a possible co-conspirator was just a tactic to get at his emails and phone records in order to build a case against the true target of the investigation, Kim.

Is that why, in addition to going after Rosen's email and phone records, Holder and Justice also went after Rosen's parents?

Ever since the Pentagon Papers were published during the Nixon administration, it has been the practice of federal law enforcement to go after people who leak secrets and not after reporters who publish them.

During the Bush administration's successful war on terror, no reporter was accused of a crime despite state secrets being spilled all over the pages of the New York Times, the Washington Post and other outlets.

The administration's pattern of intimidation and abuse of power have a common thread. Obama's animus toward Fox News is well-known, as is his scorn for the Tea Party.

Fox News reporters are accused of crimes for doing their jobs. The Tea Party, which arose in opposition to Obama policies, is targeted by the IRS, the agency tasked with enforcing ObamaCare.

Maybe this is the "Chicago Way," but it's not America's way. Holder has crossed the line and must go.

More revelations of Justice Department crackdown on the press

According to a report Tuesday in the New Yorker , the Obama
administration's investigation into a State Department leak to James
Rosen, the chief Washington correspondent of Fox News, extends well
beyond what was originally thought and includes seizing the phone
records of the reporter's parents and dozens of other individuals,
including White House staffers and other Fox News reporters.
United States Attorney for the District of Columbia Ronald C. Machen,
Jr., the prosecutor in the case of alleged leaker and former State
Department weapons expert Stephen Jin-Woo Kim, has seized records
associated with more than 30 different phone numbers.
The WSWS needs your support!Your donations go directly to financing, improving, and expanding the web site.

DonateBecause
the last four digits of all of the phone numbers have been redacted by
court order, only the three-digit area codes and exchange codes are
available. Five of these numbers have area codes and exchange codes
registered to Fox News. Two of the numbers have area code 202 and
exchange code 456, which belong to the White House, whose switchboard
number is (202) 456-1414.
The US attorney also seized records which correspond to James Rosen's
personal cellular phone, and another set of records which may be from a
number registered to Time magazine.
These revelations come to light after the Washington Post
reported Monday that FBI agent Reginald Reyes filed an affidavit in
support of a warrant request alleging that Rosen himself engaged in
criminal activity in receiving classified information from Kim about
North Korea. A judge granted the search warrant, and the Justice
Department seized Rosen's personal emails and phone records and tracked
his movements.
Rosen was never charged with any crime, while Kim faces a possible
10-year prison term under the reactionary Espionage Act of 1917. Kim has
filed a plea of not guilty.
The New Yorker report relied on a discovery document, in
this case, a list of attached electronic documents related to the
prosecution of Kim, filed in court on October 13, 2011. The document is a
letter from US Attorney Machen to the attorneys defending Kim. It makes
reference to 2,111 pages of unclassified information subpoenaed in the
investigation, including several sets of bank and credit union records,
several sets of Yahoo! Email records and one set of Gmail email
records-the latter appearing to belong to Rosen-, IP address records and
wireless phone records.
Also listed is surveillance video from the American Red Cross, other
surveillance video and security badge information from Kim and media
personnel, apparently including Rosen, though his name is not specified.
The letter indicates that much more documentation of subpoenaed
information, including classified information, will be forthcoming in
the case.
The latest report reveals that the investigation into Kim's supposed
leak was even broader than was initially thought, and this too comes on
top of last week's reports that the DoJ seized phone records for some 21
phone lines registered to the Associated Press in an investigation of a
leak of information on US intelligence operations in Yemen.
Last Tuesday, the director and legal defense directors of the
Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press issued a protest letter to
Attorney General Eric Holder and Deputy Attorney General and copied
Machen. The letter denounced the subpoena of AP phone records as being
overly broad, secretive and illegal. Some 52 press organizations
endorsed the letter, including CNN, Dow Jones and Company, Forbes Inc.,
The New York Times Company and Reuters America LLC.
The Department of Justice is engaged in at least two other leak
investigations at present. One involves the leak of information to the New York Times
about the infamous "Kill Lists" of targets for drone assassination
reviewed by president Obama. The other concerns an attempt by the United
States and Israel to infect the computer systems of Iranian nuclear
facilities with the Stuxnet worm, information which was also leaked to
the Times . The administration has indicted six current and
former officials under the Espionage Act of 1917, more than all previous
administrations combined.
While denunciations of Obama and the Department of Justice abound in
editorials and blogs from news sources all over the political spectrum,
the hostility they express to the president's attack on the free press
is by no means universally held.
Several commentators have come out in defense of "plugging leaks" by virtually any means.

Jack Shafer, writing an opinion column for Reuters , makes
the case that perhaps Eric Holder was right, and the leak for which AP
phone records were subpoenaed could really have been "very, very
serious."
Shafer wrote last Tuesday:

"Journalists gasp and growl whenever prosecutors issue lawful
subpoenas ordering them to divulge their confidential sources or to turn
over potential evidence, such as notes, video outtakes or other
records. It's an attack on the First Amendment, It's an attack on the First Amendment, It's an attack on the First Amendment, journalists and their lawyers chant."
The Washington Post 's veteran national security writer,
former CIA informant Walter Pincus, went so far as to state that whoever
leaked the information around the AP story "not only broke the law but
caused the abrupt end to a secret, joint U.S./Saudi/British operation in
Yemen that offered valuable intelligence against al-Qaeda in the
Arabian Peninsula."
He says later, "It was inevitable that the leak to the AP would
generate an FBI probe. Given past leak investigations in the Bush and
Obama administrations, journalists at the AP and elsewhere know they
could face scrutiny. Like it or not, they are part of a crime. The leaker or leakers had taken an oath under the threat of prosecution to protect the information." (Italics added)
Most significantly, the New York Times on Monday lent space
in its pages to a statement by three former Department of Justice
officials: Jamie Gorelick, deputy attorney general under Bill Clinton;
William P. Barr, attorney general from 1991 to 1993; and Kenneth L.
Wainstain, assistant attorney general for national security from 2006 to
2008. The statement, titled "Stop the Leaks," made a crude and legally
untenable case for the actions of the Justice Department.
"As former Justice Department officials who served in the three
administrations preceding President Obama's, we are worried that the
criticism of the decision to subpoena telephone toll records of A.P.
journalists in an important leak investigation sends the wrong message
to the government officials who are responsible for our national
security."
Apologizing for the Obama administration's gross violations of the First Amendment, the authors continue:

"But after eight months of intensive effort, it appears that they
still could not identify the leaker. It was only then-after pursuing
'all reasonable alternative investigative steps,' as required by the
department's regulations-that investigators proposed obtaining telephone
toll records (logs of calls made and received) for about 20 phone lines
that the leaker might have used in conversations with A.P. journalists.
They limited the request to the two months when the leak most likely
occurred, and did not propose more intrusive investigative steps."
The authors do not address the requirement that the DoJ must first ask for the records in question from the media outlet itself before
issuing a subpoena. They presume that the unsubstantiated assertion by
attorney general Holder that asking for the records would have
jeopardized the investigation: i.e., evidence would have been destroyed.
The letter is significant in its expression of a consensus within the
ruling class that the methods of suppressing any leaks are beyond
reproach. Journalists who would communicate leaks should likewise be
prosecuted, if necessary to protect national security.
