Incredible IDF restraint in the face of a barrage of large stones

Here is a video of IDF soldiers showing incredible restraint in the face of a deadly barrage of stones. Several of the soldiers are even injured by the stones but still show restraint; you can see at 0:55 for example one of the soldiers get hit by a boulder in the leg, despite this he still retains his cool and goes for non-lethal equipment in the vehicle.

Any normal army or police force would have likely resorted to lethal force in such a situation when cornered.

Israeli Motorists Shocked When Nazi Flag Seen Flying Near Palestinian Mosque

Israeli settlers on their morning commute got quite the eyeful Monday morning when they saw a swastika-emblazoned red flag flying near a mosque in Beit Omar, a Palestinian village outside of Hebron.

Thousands of residents of Jewish settlements near Hebron and Bethlehem in Judea (the southern West Bank) drive to and from work on the road from which the flag was visible.

The Tazpit News Agency, which photographed the flying Nazi flag, reports residents "were astounded" to see the symbol under which millions of Jews were massacred during World War II now being prominently displayed by residents of a Palestinian town.

Uri Arnon, who saw the flag, told Tazpit News Agency: "I felt we were going back 75 years, losing our hold on the land. The Arabs no longer feel the need to hide their murderous tendencies, announcing out loud that they wish to destroy us."

Aryeh Savir of the Tazpit News Agency tells TheBlaze, "The IDF's Coordination Office of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) latest response is that they are waiting for members of the Palestinian electricity company to come in and remove it because it is on power lines."

Beit Omar, also known as Beit Ummar, is located in a part of the West Bank known as Area B in which the Palestinian Authority runs the day-to-day civilian affairs, while the IDF is responsible for military and national security related issues.

There has been a history of Nazi sympathies among some Palestinians. Most notoriously, thePalestinian leader Haj Amin al Husseini who served as Grand Mufti of Jerusalem during the 1920s and 1930s, was an outspoken Nazi collaborator and even met with Adolf Hitler. He also recruited Muslims to serve in the SS. This famous photo with Hitler was taken in 1941.

Just last week, Columbia University Professor Joseph Massad was widely criticized for posting a column on Al Jazeera's website in which he claimed that Zionism is anti-Semitic and that there is an "affinity between Nazis and Zionists." Due to the outpouring of criticism, Al Jazeeraremoved the column form its site over the weekend.

Syria crisis threatens Palestinian refugeesPro- and anti-Assad factions seek support of Palestinians in Lebanon's refugee camps as tensions there rise over Syria.
Zak Brophy Last Modified: 16 May 2013 10:49

The Palestinian community in Lebanon is socially vulnerable and politically divided

Beirut, Lebanon - The Palestinian refugee camp of Shatila is perilously wedged along one of Lebanon's many sectarian fault lines.

Black Islamic flags adorn the lampposts when approaching this small slum from Sunni strongholds to the north, while expansive Shia ghettoes border the camp immediately to the south.

In recent months, an increasing number of clashes have erupted in and around Shatila, as rival Lebanese factions fight for the loyalty of the socially vulnerable and politically divided Palestinian camps.

The Syrian civil war and rising Shia-Sunni discord in Lebanon are exacerbating the pressure. "These are concerted efforts to provoke a response," explained Fathi Abou al-Ardat, secretary for the Fatah movement and the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) in Lebanon.

On May 12, clashes - described by local residents as the most intense fighting yet - erupted between groups inside Shatila and neighbouring Shia communities. Volleys of gunfire were exchanged for several hours, and the army encircled the camp with armoured personnel carriers.

"We know the Palestinians are divided and some groups are exploiting that to stir things up here. We are not taking the bait, but these groups have to know that if they push too hard we will run all over them like we did in 2008," said Abu Ali, a resident of the Rihaab district, a predominantly Shia neighbourhood on the edge of Shatila.

 Palestinian refugees struggle in Lebanon

Although Shatila was founded as a Palestinian refugee camp, many non-Palestinians now live there as well.

Ahmad, a 20-year-old Shatila resident with little education and scant work prospects, reasoned: "Us Sunna reacted strongly and started to boil over when we saw the killing in Syria. This caused clashes with Shia because they are helping with the slaughter of our people there."

Losing faith

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad comes from the Alawite sect - an offshoot of Shia Islam - and the powerful Lebanese Shia group Hezbollah supports Assad.

Like many of his peers, Ahmad has lost faith in the traditional Sunni leadership and places his trust instead with more religiously conservative and combative leaders such as Sheikh Ahmad Assir, who have been trying to garner support from predominantly Sunni Palestinians.

"There are more and more of us prepared to follow Assir," said Ahmad. "More and more people are becoming increasingly religious. Everyone is preparing himself for what may come."

The Palestinian camps in Lebanon consist of basic, overcrowded homes, their people victims of decades of war, neglect and abuse. In Shatila, the buildings are so cramped that sunlight is a rare commodity. The smells of garbage and sewage foul the air and unemployed youth fill the cramped alleys.

"We are seeing increased efforts to recruit from our youth. There is desperation and anger here, so whatever they pay they will find people to say 'yes'. They think we are cheap," said Ayman Zaher, a youth worker in Shatila.

All of the major Palestinian political parties have adopted, and until now managed to maintain, a policy of neutrality in Lebanon regardless of their stance on the conflict in Syria. However, in Ein el-Helweh, the largest and most populous camp in Lebanon, armed groups such as Jund al-Sham, Jabhat al-Nusra and Asbat al-Ansar have found a safe haven under the protective wing of powerful local families.

Their number of followers may not be huge, but their hard-line ideology and links to like-minded movements in Lebanon and Syria make Ein el-Helweh a particularly worrying flashpoint for Palestinians and Lebanese alike.

"There is so much pressure on the camps and they are ready to explode, especially Ein el-Helweh, which could go off before there is a wider conflict in Lebanon. There is so much provocation from the Islamist groups there and I'm not sure if the PLO can keep a lid on it," warned Mutuwalli Abu Naser, a Palestinian journalist and playwright from Yarmouk camp in Damascus, who now lives in Lebanon.

SpotlightIn-depth coverage of escalating violence across Syria Syrian influence

On the other side, Hezbollah and its allies have also been working to secure the allegiance of Palestinians in Lebanon.

Until withdrawing its troops from Lebanon in 2005, the Syrian government was influential in many of the camps through various Palestinian allies. Since the Syrian withdrawal, Hezbollah has by-and-large maintained Syria's leverage in the camps, even though the stance of several Palestinian groups has shifted since the start of the Syrian uprising.

"Hezbollah works by a very low profile without making noise, because they work with the Palestinians from a security background, not a political one," explained Edward Kattoura, a political analyst at Pursue, a Palestinian think-tank.

Many of the Palestinian camps are located in Hezbollah-dominated areas, especially in Beirut, South Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley.

Recently, Shaker Berjawi - a Sunni "strongman" in Beirut who earned his battlefield stripes in the Lebanese civil war - decided to move the headquarters of his pro-Syrian Arab Movement Party to the edge of Shatila, indicating the importance of the camp's support. While maintaining a local influence over the years, he has switched political allegiances numerous times, and he is now aligned with the Hezbollah-led camp.

"It seems people use us as mercenaries, whether it be for one side or the other. When he opens up his office at the entrance to the camps, he is sending a message that the camps are part of his fight," said Kattoura.

'Sacrificial lamb'

But many Palestinians in Lebanon are driven by nationalist rather than sectarian sensibilities, and the camps may be able to stay out of internal Lebanese conflict.

"Most of Lebanese have a view of the camps as a source of militia fighters and criminals. There is destitution and desperation, it is true, but in fact they are much less sectarian than most of Lebanese society," said Moe Ali Nayel, a Lebanese writer and activist who regularly works in the camps.

"The Palestinians are used like a sacrificial lamb in Lebanon. Lebanese groups like to have Palestinians up front and then the blame can be put on us. "

- Marwan Abdulal, Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine

And the Palestinians' time in Lebanon has cruelly taught them while their loyalty is dear, their blood is cheap, whether it be the massacre at Sabra and Shatila at the hands of Christian militias in 1982, the "War of the Camps" from 1985-87 between the Shia Amal Movement and Palestinian refugees, or the bombardment of Nahr Bared camp by the Lebanese army in 2007.

"The Palestinians are used like a sacrificial lamb in Lebanon. Lebanese groups like to have Palestinians up front and then the blame can be put on us," said Marwan Abdulal, member of the political bureau for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

The Palestinian camps can hope to stay detached from the conflict in Lebanon as long as the fighting is constrained to the prevailing pattern of intermittent local clashes and firebrand speeches.

However, should the situation escalate, residents will be hard pressed not to get dragged into the affray.

"It will be very difficult for the camps to stay aside if this descends into a serious fitna ," warned the PLO's Fathi Abou al-Ardat.

"The general atmosphere, the speeches, all of it is setting the stage for a fitna . In reality, it is already here."

In the West Bank, Gaza and refugee camps across the Arab world, Palestinians marked "Nakba (the catastrophe) Day" - the day Israel was founded, on Wednesday.

In Palestinian towns, at exactly noon a memorial siren was sounded, its length 65 seconds, one second for every year Israel has existed.
In the afternoon hours, Palestinian youths began clashing withIDF forces in a number of locations in the West Bank. They hurled stones at security forces who returned fire with riot dispersing equipment.

Clashes broke out in Qalandiya in north Jerusalem, in the Al-Arub refugee camp near Bethlehem and in the Pawer refugee camp near Hebron, as well as Turmus Eia, east of Ramallah.

Palestinian assailants near the West Bank village of Hursa hurled a Molotov cocktail at an IDF jeep patrolling the area. The jeep was torched and four IDF soldiers were lightly injured.

A few Palestinians attempted to reach the site where an outpost had been erected, near the village of Al-Azaryia in E-1 southeast of Jerusalem. According to them, the IDF and Border Guard forces prevented them from reaching the site, where they planned to plant trees and wave Palestinian flags.

Clashes broke out near Jerusalem's Old City, where eight Arab protesters were detained so far. Three officers were injured in rock-hurling incidents, all lightly.

In Ramallah, hundreds took part in the main procession, from the grave of Yasser Arafat towards the city's square bearing his name. There, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas gave a televised speech.

Abbas said that Palestinians will not agree to any arrangement that compromises their right to a free and sovereign state in the areas under Israeli control since 1967. Abbas further added that the Palestinians will continue to fight for a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital and a just solution for Palestinian refugees.

In the Gaza Strip, "Nakba Day" was marked with a memorial siren in the morning hours.

Afterwards, processions were held in a number of districts in the strip.

Book about killing gentile children becomes bestseller in Israel

JERUSALEM - A Jewish rabbi has issued a book giving Jews permission to murder non-Jews, including babies and children, who may pose an actual or potential threat to Jews or Israel. "It is permissible to kill the Righteous among non-Jews even if they are not responsible for the threatening situation," Rabbi Yitzhak Shapiro, who heads the Od Yosef Chai Yeshiva in the Yitzhar settlement in the occupied West Bank, wrote in his book "The King's Torah."

He argues that goyem (a derogatory epithet for non-Jews) may be killed if they threaten Israel.

"If we kill a Gentile who has sinned or has violated one of the seven commandments - because we care about thecommandments - there is nothing wrong with the murder."

Rabbi Yitzhak Shapiro - co-author of the book

Shapiro, who heads a small Talmudic school at the settlement of Yitzhar near Nablus, claims his edict "is fully justified by the Torah and the Talmud."

The anti-goyem edict seems to come in response to the arrest by Israeli police of a Jewish terrorist who has confessed to having murdered two Palestinian shepherds in the West Bank.

The terrorist, an American-born immigrant named Yaakov Teitel, also confessed to have tried to assassinate leftist Jewish figures.

Police considered the arrest an important achievement in combating Jewish terrorism, which experts contend thrives on religious edicts issued by rabbis affiliated with the religious-Zionist camp.

Nearly 16 years ago, a Jewish terrorist named Yigal Amir assassinated then Israeli Premier Yitzhak Rabin.

Moreover, numerous innocent Palestinians have also been murdered in cold blood by Jewish terrorists.

In 1994, Baruch Goldstein, a notorious Jewish terrorist, murdered 29 Muslim worshipers inside Al-Ibrahimi Mosque in the West Bank town of al-Khalil.

Non-Humans

The controversial edict is backed by numerous rabbis affiliated with the so-called national-religious camp as well as the Talmudic seminary in West Jerusalem, known as Merkaz Ha'rav.

Among the rabbis who have publicly supported the edict are Yitzhak Ginsburg and Ya'akov Yosef.

Ginsburg had written a leaflet glorifying murderer Goldstein and called him a "saintly figure."

Shapiro's views on how Palestinians and non-Jews in general ought to be treated according to Jewish religious law (halacha) are widely looked at as representing the mainstream not the exception in Israel.

During the Israeli onslaught against Gaza earlier this year, Mordecahi Elyahu, one of the leading rabbinic figures in Israel, urged the army not to refrain from killing enemy children in order to save the lives of Israeli soldiers.

He had even petitioned the Israeli government to carry out a series of carpet bombing of Palestinian population centers in Gaza.

"If they don't stop after we kill 100, then we must kill a thousand. And if they do not stop after we kill a thousand, then we must kill 10,000. If they still don't stop, we must kill 100,000, even a million. Whatever it takes to stop them."

According to Israel Shahak, author of "Jewish History, Jewish Religion: the Weight of Three Thousand years," the term "human beings" in Jewish law refers solely to Jews.

Many Jewish orthodox rabbis, especially within the national-religious sector, view international conventions incriminating the deliberate killing of civilians and destruction of civilian homes and property as representing "Christian morals" not binding on Jews.

In 2006, the Rabbinic Council of Jewish Settlements in the West Bank urged the army "to ignore Christian morals and exterminate the enemy in the north (Lebanon) and the south (Gaza Strip).

Such manifestly racist and hateful edicts don't raise many eyebrows in Israel, neither among the intelligentsia nor in the society at large.

Israel ministers: 'Price tag' attacks to be tried as act of terror

Justice minister Livni, Interior security minister Aharonovitch to bring before the cabinet initiative by which 'price tag' crimes be dubbed terroristic acts. The initiative is part of a larger shift intended to bolster police and Shin Bet action against "price tag" offenses against Palestinians and Arabs in general -

An initiative to change the legal standing of "price tag" attacks to that of an act of terror will be brought before the cabinet next week, according to a resolution devised by Justice Minister Tzipi Livni, Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich and representatives from the police and security forces.

The initiative is part of a larger shift intended to bolster police and Shin Bet action against "price tag" offenses in the West Bank and Israel.

In the State budget that was passed this week, Aharonovich managed to secure funds for some 50 additional police officers who will be enlisted to a special unit focused entirely on nationalistically-motivated crimes, aimed at battling the phenomenon of "price tag" offenses.

Minister Livni has recently met with several settlement representatives in order to gain support for the initiative.

Sources within the Internal Security Ministry stressed that the initiative's intent was to target nationalistic crimes of any kind, but that the main effort was to foil "price tag" acts executed by Jewish outlaws.

A source familiar with the details added that police and Shin Bet were interested in cooperating "in order to prevent crimes of this sort and fight the phenomenon."

According to a formal statement issued by Livni's office Thursday, "Minister Livni, Internal Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovich and Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein discussed nationalistically-motivated crimes today. Representatives from the State Prosecution, the IDF and Shin Bet also attended the meeting."

The statement added that the ministers and the attorney general fear that "price tag" offenses could harm the ties with Israeli Arabs.

Events of the Last 48 hours:
- Russia's Pacific Fleet Enters The Mediterranean For First Time Since The Cold War.
-CIA chief John Brennan met Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon in an emergency unplanned meeting.
- USS Kearsarge, carrying 1,800 marines and a consignment of 20 V-22 Osprey helicopters, docks at the Israel's red sea port of Eilat.
-Rocket and mortar attack from Syria on Israeli positions in the Golan.
-Transfer of game changing weapons to Hezbollah from Syria.
-Eminent defeat of Israeli and NATO backed terrorists in Homs
-Buk, Pantsir and S-300 systems are now fully operational and online in Syria.
- Israel tries to bribe and appease China by lending them their new US delivered F35 jet fighters

On Tuesday, President Bashar Assad was quoted as saying the Golan will be the "front
line of resistance" after giving radical Palestinians under his wing
permission to install missiles there against Israel. Unidentified Syria
military sources vowed to attack the Israeli army vehicles crossing the
line to evacuate wounded terrorists in need of medical care.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Netanyahu ended
their three-hour meeting in Sochi Tuesday, May 14, at loggerheads on
Syria. In fact, Putin warned his guest that Israel and its army, the
IDF, were heading for war with Syria in which Russia might well be
involved - and not just through the advanced S-300 anti-air missiles
supplied to the Assad government. The case Netanyahu and Military
Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Aviv Kochavi put before Putin and Russian
foreign intelligence chief, SVR Director Mikhail Fradkov, fell on deaf
ears.

The Israeli prime minister countered with a warning that Israel would
continue to strike advanced weapons in Syria that were destined for
Hizballah. And if President Bashar Assad hit back for Israel's May 5
bombardment of weapons stores on Mount Qassioun near Damascus, Israel
would intensify its bombardments of Syrian military targets and weapons
until Assad was left to fight off rebel assaults empty-handed.

Putin rejected this threat as implausible.

Neither Putin nor Netanyahu put all their cards on the table, but the
conversation ended with the Russian leader fully confident that his
capabilities for safeguarding Assad were greater than Israel's ability
to destroy him.

In the end, Netanyahu and his party arrived home Tuesday evening with
a bad feeling. They were certain that Moscow had given Assad the green
light to go through with his threat to make the Syrian Golan and the
Horan of southern Syria "a front for resistance" - i.e. the platforms
for embarking on a war of attrition against northern Israel with the
help of a flow of advanced weapons to Hizballah.

The Syrian ruler is strongly encouraged to adopt this path by Tehran.
Hizballah's leader Hassan Nasrallah has embraced it. And the radical
Palestinian leader, Ahmed Jibril, head of the Assad-satellite Popular
Front-General Command, has eagerly offered his services. And indeed, Wednesday, the day after Netanyahu's trip to Sochi,

Jibril's group let loose with mortar fire on the Israeli Mt. Hermon ski
site, firing from a Syrian army position.

Israeli military sources confirmed later that these were no stray
shells from a Syrian-army-rebel battle as in former cases, but a
deliberate attack. In Jerusalem, it was taken as a direct consequence of
Moscow's account to Assad of the conversation between the Russian and
Israeli leaders. They concluded that Assad took it for granted that he
was now at liberty to go on the offensive against Israel.

Wednesday night, Netanyahu's office reacted to this deterioration with a swift and strong warning.

Israeli media were informed bluntly that if the Assad chose to retaliate
for Israel's air strikes, he would be removed from power.

That same night, "a senior Israeli official" contacted The New York Times with
a more detailed warning quoted by the paper: "If Syrian President Assad
reacts by attacking Israel, or tries to strike Israel through his
terrorist proxies, he will risk forfeiting his regime, for Israel will
retaliate."

Within hours, early Thursday morning, May 16, Jerusalem had its answer from Damascus.

A Palestinian group calling itself "Martyrs of the Abdel Qader
al-Husseini Brigades" (named for the commander of a Palestinian force
fighting Israel in its 1948 War of Independence) claimed responsibility
for the "rockets" aimed at an Israeli military observation post in the
Golan Heights. They were fired in honor of Nakba Day, said the statement
released in Damascus "We are not celebrating but avenging the blood of
our martyrs."

A video showing the launch was appended .

Palestinian terrorist groups habitually use made-up names when claiming
attacks, a practice often followed by al Qaeda, but this one was easily
identified by Israel and taken to mean that Assad had begun using what
the Israeli official referred to in The New York Times as "his terrorist proxies."

Depending on the next move decided on by Prime Minister Netanyahu,
Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon and Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz,
this incident could mark the tipping-point of a slide towards a war
confrontation against Israel by Syria, Hizballah and other Assad
proxies.

All Wars Are Bankers' Wars . Not in School History Books Strangely.

A web of control - with fingers in every pie

The influence of Jewish moneylenders has been woven into the history
of the West for centuries and runs like a thread throughout all events,
hidden in many guises, yet ever present.
An insidious, dangerous, secret coterie that works behind the scenes.
But, like a jigsaw puzzle, out of the mesh of intrigue the pieces fit
together to form a pattern.
Thread Number One: England

The watershed for Europe was the Reformation. Henry VIII of England
was in need of a son and a new wife. Thomas Cromwell was happy to
oblige. The split away from the old church, brought the Bible into
prominence and thereby increased Jewish influence.
After an embargo of almost 400 years, Jews were allowed to return to
England in 1656 thanks to a "financial arrangement" between Oliver
Cromwell and the Jewish Sanhedrin.
As a "National Debt" is an essential first ingredient of financial
control, and wars are the prime cause of debt, it took only to 1693
before England found herself unable to meet her commitments, thanks to
the continental wars of William of Orange which had been financed by
the Jewish moneylenders of Amsterdam.
Despite the many dissident voices against the establishment of the
Bank of England, (i.e. a method whereby the State finance was taken out
of the control of the State and into the hands of bankers) the bill
went through the House of Commons and, although the House of Lords
asserted it was intended to enrich usurers at the expense of the
nobility, the Bank came into being and was founded in 1694.
Fueled by the gold and silver bled from South America that poured
into Europe to fill the coffers of the bankers, the Industrial
Revolution produced a false face of prosperity whilst at the same time
destroying cottage industry, producing urban factory squalor and
commencing the start of economic control by the moneylenders.

This phase continued into the mid-nineteenth century when the first
Jewish Prime Minister, Benjamin Disraeli, commented: "...the world is
governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who
are not behind the scenes..."
The stage was now set for the British Empire and underneath the Pomp
and Circumstance came the steady infiltration into the economics of the
east - and its riches.
Max Weber, a historian, published "The Protestant Ethic and the
Spirit of Capitalism" (By that time usury had achieved respectability
under the new title of Capitalism.) In his book he claimed that
Protestantism - more specifically, its Calvinist branches - promoted
the rise of modern capitalism.
In England the need to muzzle the old ruling order was achieved, not
by assassination or execution as in France and Russia, but by erosion,
i.e. via a Land Tax and then by marriage. Lord Rosebery started the
trend by marrying a Rothschild and Arthur Balfour, the signatory of the
fallacious "Balfour Declaration", set the stage for the creation of
Israel. The trend towards the formation of a new Jewish aristocracy
continues with Blair's "title for money" policy, orchestrated by the
chief fundraiser for the Labour Party, "Lord" Levy.

Queen Victoria may have been the Empress of India but it was Disraeli the agent of the "City" of London who engineered
the means whereby the east was conquered using the manpower of the British Isles.
Thread Number Two: France
In France the monarchy foundered on bankrupcy, stemming from Louis
X1V's continental wars. Necker (supposedly Protestant but probably of
Jewish origin) lauded as a financial genius, employed the dangerous
tactics of using ruinous short-term loans at exorbitant interest to
shore up the shaky finances, which spelt ultimate disaster.
At the same time the necklace conspiracy engineered through
Cagliostro (a Freemason) and the Jewish jewellers, Bassenge and Bohmer,
fueled anger against the extravagance of the queen. The dismissal of
Necker led to the attack on the Bastille, and the aristocracy - a much
more top heavy group than the English variety - were effectively
eradicated by the guillotine.

France by this time had acquired a National Debt and the Bank of
France was created in Paris in 1800. Napoleon wanted the country to
break free from the power of the bankers and the debt. According to
him: "when the Government is dependent on bankers for
money, the bankers, not the leaders of the Government, are in
control.... The hand that gives is above the hand that takes. Money
has no motherland. Financiers are without patriotism or decency. Their
sole object is gain."
In 1806, he remarked: "By what miracle did whole provinces of France
become heavily mortgaged to the Jews, when there are only sixty
thousand of them in this country?" (MSS of Napoleon, 1811.)
In 1882 the collapse of the Union Gen

Syria: Civilians Come Under
Fire From Rebels

Sky's Foreign Affairs Editor Tim Marshall witnesses a crowd of pro-regime demonstrators being shot at by rebels in Damascus.

By Tim Marshall, Foreign Affairs Editor

We knew what was coming and so wore flak jackets and helmets. The demonstrators knew what was coming, had no protection, and still walked straight into the line of fire.

The demonstrators were predominantly Syrian Palestinians, many from the Yarmouk district of Damascus who had fled when it was taken over by opposition forces eight months ago.

Syria: Civilians Come Under Fire From Rebels
esident insisted the rebel fighters were not Syrian nationalsSome screamed at us: "Please tell the world the truth! We don't want the fighters here, we want the army to kill them!"

A few carried the portrait of President Assad, others the Syrian or Palestinian flag.

One woman called the Free Syrian Army (FSA) "dogs" and said the men in Yarmouk were not Syrians but from Chechnya and Afghanistan. We could not verify this.

The armed men in Yarmouk had warned the demonstrators not to approach saying they would open fire.

The fact that a few Syrian army soldiers were accompanying the demonstrators made that a certainty.

About 1,000 people were in the demonstration. A few religious leaders and women were in the front rows as they approached where the opposition forces had a clear field of fire.

The shooting began almost immediately. A man went down, followed by others. The army officer who had insisted on escorting us was hit by shrapnel.

Civilian demonstrators flee the gunfireThe demonstrators broke ranks and fled back across no man's land, some of the women crying with fear.

As they passed us a man stopped and shouted that he was sure the fighters were not Syrians but men paid to come to Damascus and kill people. Another man shouted that they were "animals".

More soldiers arrived taking up positions facing the opposition forces. Heavy machine gun fire rumbled around the area mixing with the crack of sniper's bullets and the rattle of semi-automatic weapons.

Tim Marshall in DamascusThere were occasional explosions. The firefight went on for more than an hour.

The army later claimed to have killed 10 fighters and said three soldiers were injured along with at least five civilians.

I've been in areas held by Syrian FSA fighters where there was clearly support for the opposition forces, but almost two years ago I first came across areas where the FSA was feared by the population and the Syrian Army viewed as liberators.

It's impossible to gauge the numbers of people who fall into the two camps. All we could do was report what we saw on this day, in this place.

15.5.2013 Occupied Golan, Syria

Thanks to @Brani_Child on Twitter for the link

From Maan News
The Abdul Qader al-Husseini brigades on Thursday claimed responsibility for an attack from Syria on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The military wing of the Free Palestine Movement said it had received permission from Syria to launch the attack, following recent Israeli attacks on Syria.

The brigades said in a statement that militants fired projectiles at dawn on Wednesday to mark the anniversary of the Nakba -- or catastrophe -- of Israel's founding in 1948, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were forced or fled from their homes.

"We are avenging all our martyrs that we lost in our war with the Zionist enemy," the brigades said in a statement.

The group posted a video online showing what it says is footage of the attack. Ma'an is unable to verify the content of the footage.

Unknown Palestinian group fires rockets at Israel from Syria (Video)

An unknown Palestinian organization called The Halal Brigades Abd el-Qader el-Husseini posted a video on Wednesday documenting what it claims is the firing of rockets from Syria toward an observation point in the Golan Heights. The group was apparently referring to the mortar shells that landed in the Mount Hermon region yesterday.

The organization claimed the attack was launched to mark Nakba Day, in which Palestinians mourn the "catastrophe" of Israel's inception in 1948.
"We are not celebrating, but avenging the death of our fallen," the group said in a statement.

The organization, which is affiliated with the "Free Palestine Movement," said the "rocket attack" was launched to commemorate "Palestinians killed" during Nakba Day events last year, but the most recent deaths of Palestinians on Nakba Day took place two years ago. "We are telling our Zionist enemy that this is a campaign of settling scores," the group said in the statement.
The video clip, which is dated Wednesday, shows two launchings carried out in the dark. However, the authenticity of the footage has not been verified. The group claims it launched the attack at 5:30 am, while the mortars hit the Mount Hebron region at 6:15 am. A few days ago the Palestinian organization said it managed to hit an Israeli radar station, but its claims have not been confirmed by any other source.

Israel estimates the mortar landings on Wednesday were the result of errant fire from Syrian territory conducted during battles between Syrian army forces and rebels trying to overthrow President Bashar Assad. The battles on the Syrian side of the border, near the Druze village of el-Hadr, not far from Majdal Shams, have intensified in recent weeks.
Syrian, Iran and Hezbollah have threatened to open another front against Israel in the Golan Heights in response to the recentairstrikes on Damascus, which were attributed to Israel.

London-based Arabic newspaper Al-Hayat on Thursday quoted a "knowledgeable source in Tehran" as saying that Iran has convinced Assad to provide Hezbollah with all the military equipment it needs should the Lebanese Shiite movement decide to confront Israel in the Golan. The source said Iran had also persuaded Assad to allow "any interested party" to wage a jihad - or holy war -against Israel from the Golan region.
