Remember: Hillary Clinton Fired From "Watergate" For Lying...

The now-retired general counsel and chief of staff of the House Judiciary Committee, who supervised Hillary when she worked on the Watergate investigation, says Hillary's history of lies and unethical behavior goes back farther - and goes much deeper - than anyone realizes.

Jerry Zeifman, a lifelong Democrat, supervised the work of 27-year-old Hillary Rodham on the committee. Hillary got a job working on the investigation at the behest of her former law professor, Burke Marshall, who was also Sen. Ted Kennedy's chief counsel in the Chappaquiddick affair. When the investigation was over, Zeifman fired Hillary from the committee staff and refused to give her a letter of recommendation - one of only three people who earned that dubious distinction in Zeifman's 17-year career.

Why?

"Because she was a liar," Zeifman said in an interview last week. "She was an unethical, dishonest lawyer. She conspired to violate the Constitution, the rules of the House, the rules of the committee and the rules of confidentiality."

How could a 27-year-old House staff member do all that? She couldn't do it by herself, but Zeifman said she was one of several individuals - including Marshall, special counsel John Doar and senior associate special counsel (and future Clinton White House Counsel) Bernard Nussbaum - who engaged in a seemingly implausible scheme to deny Richard Nixon the right to counsel during the investigation.

Why would they want to do that? Because, according to Zeifman, they feared putting Watergate break-in mastermind E. Howard Hunt on the stand to be cross-examined by counsel to the president. Hunt, Zeifman said, had the goods on nefarious activities in the Kennedy Administration that would have made Watergate look like a day at the beach - including Kennedy's purported complicity in the attempted assassination of Fidel Castro.

The actions of Hillary and her cohorts went directly against the judgment of top Democrats, up to and including then-House Majority Leader Tip O'Neill, that Nixon clearly had the right to counsel. Zeifman says that Hillary, along with Marshall, Nussbaum and Doar, was determined to gain enough votes on the Judiciary Committee to change House rules and deny counsel to Nixon. And in order to pull this off, Zeifman says Hillary wrote a fraudulent legal brief, and confiscated public documents to hide her deception.

The brief involved precedent for representation by counsel during an impeachment proceeding. When Hillary endeavored to write a legal brief arguing there is no right to representation by counsel during an impeachment proceeding, Zeifman says, he told Hillary about the case of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas, who faced an impeachment attempt in 1970.

"As soon as the impeachment resolutions were introduced by (then-House Minority Leader Gerald) Ford, and they were referred to the House Judiciary Committee, the first thing Douglas did was hire himself a lawyer," Zeifman said.

The Judiciary Committee allowed Douglas to keep counsel, thus establishing the precedent. Zeifman says he told Hillary that all the documents establishing this fact were in the Judiciary Committee's public files. So what did Hillary do?

"Hillary then removed all the Douglas files to the offices where she was located, which at that time was secured and inaccessible to the public," Zeifman said. Hillary then proceeded to write a legal brief arguing there was no precedent for the right to representation by counsel during an impeachment proceeding - as if the Douglas case had never occurred.

The brief was so fraudulent and ridiculous, Zeifman believes Hillary would have been disbarred if she had submitted it to a judge.

Jack Teitel's attorneys say court that handed down life sentence overlooked his mental state.

First Publish: 5/21/2013, 2:10 PMAttorneys for Yaakov "Jack" Teitel have appealed his life sentence to the Supreme Court. Teitel was sentenced to two life terms and 30 years in prison for two murders and a string of bombings.

He has been dubbed the "Jewish terrorist" in the media due to the
fact that he targeted Arabs, Christians and members of the far Left.

Teitel's attorneys say the court that handed down his sentence
ignored findings regarding his mental health that could have proven
diminished responsibility.

Teitel committed the first murder for which he was convicted
in the mid-1990s, as an American tourist in Israel. He later became a
citizen, and in 2006 resumed his attacks with several bombings that
caused injury but no fatalities.

Four months ago judges Tzvi Segal, Moshe Drori and Yoad Cohen convicted Teitel and determined that his mental state did not diminish his responsibility for the crimes for which he was convicted.

Judge Yoad Cohen, who handed down his sentence wrote, "Any human, as a
human, and certainly any Jew as a Jew, must uphold the commandment 'you
shall not murder' for racism, particularly in light of the bitter and
tragic fate of the Jewish people in recent
generations. Racism based on a person's ethnic background or religious
affiliation is completely unacceptable, in Judaism as well."

Another video about the 1811-1812 New Madrid earthquakes, this time produced jointly by the USGS and the state of Tennessee with more of a focus on Tennessee itself.

The 1811-1812 New Madrid earthquakes were an intense intraplate earthquake series beginning with an initial pair of very large earthquakes on December 16, 1811. These earthquakes remain the most powerful earthquakes to hit the eastern United States in recorded history. These events, as well as the seismic zone of their occurrence, were named for the Mississippi River town of New Madrid, then part of the Louisiana Territory, now within Missouri.

There are estimates that the earthquakes were felt strongly over roughly 50,000 sq mi, and moderately across nearly 1 million square miles. The historic 1906 San Francisco earthquake, by comparison, was felt moderately over roughly 6,200 sq mi.

The 1811-1812 earthquakes

The four earthquakes

December 16, 1811, 2:15 a.m. (M ~7.2 - 8.1) epicenter in northeast Arkansas. It caused only slight damage to man-made structures, mainly because of the sparse population in the epicentral area. The future location of Memphis, Tennessee experienced level IX shaking on the Mercalli intensity scale. A seismic seiche propagated upriver, and Little Prairie (a village that was on the site of the former Fort San Fernando, near the site of present-day Caruthersville, Missouri) was heavily damaged by soil liquefaction.

December 16, 1811, 8:15 a.m. (M ~7.2-8.1) epicenter in northeast Arkansas. This shock followed the first earthquake by six hours and was similar in intensity.

January 23, 1812, 9 a.m. (M ~7.0-7.8) epicenter in the Missouri Bootheel. The meizoseismal area was characterized by general ground warping, ejections, fissuring, severe landslides, and caving of stream banks. Johnson and Schweig attributed this earthquake to a rupture on the New Madrid North Fault. This may have placed strain on the Reelfoot Fault.

February 7, 1812, 4:45 a.m. (M ~7.4-8.0) epicenter near New Madrid, Missouri. New Madrid was destroyed. At St. Louis, Missouri, many houses were severely damaged, and their chimneys were toppled. This shock was definitively attributed to the Reelfoot Fault by Johnston and Schweig. Uplift along a segment of this reverse fault created temporary waterfalls on the Mississippi at Kentucky Bend, created waves that propagated upstream, and caused the formation of Reelfoot Lake by obstructing streams in what is now Lake County, Tennessee.

Susan Hough, a seismologist of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), has recently estimated the earthquakes' magnitudes as "right around magnitude 7. Possibly a bit below, possibly a bit above, but not as big as 7.5."

Eyewitness accounts

John Bradbury, a Fellow of the Linnean Society, was on the Mississippi on the night of December 15, 1811, and describes the tremors in great detail in his Travels in the Interior of America in the Years 1809, 1810 and 1811, published in 1817.

After supper, we went to sleep as usual: about ten o'clock, and in the night I was awakened by the most tremendous noise, accompanied by an agitation of the boat so violent, that it appeared in danger of upsetting ... I could distinctly see the river as if agitated by a storm; and although the noise was inconceivably loud and terrific, I could distinctly hear the crash of falling trees, and the screaming of the wild fowl on the river, but found that the boat was still safe at her moorings. By the time we could get to our fire, which was on a large flag in the stern of the boat, the shock had ceased; but immediately the perpendicular banks, both above and below us, began to fall into the river in such vast masses, as to nearly sink our boat by the swell they occasioned ... At day-light we had counted twenty-seven shocks.

Eliza Bryan in New Madrid, Territory of Missouri, wrote the following eyewitness account in March, 1812.

On the 16th of December, 1811, about two o'clock, a.m., we were visited by a violent shock of an earthquake, accompanied by a very awful noise resembling loud but distant thunder, but more hoarse and vibrating, which was followed in a few minutes by the complete saturation of the atmosphere, with sulphurious vapor, causing total darkness. The screams of the affrighted inhabitants running to and fro, not knowing where to go, or what to do-the cries of the fowls and beasts of every species-the cracking of trees falling, and the roaring of the Mississippi- the current of which was retrograde for a few minutes, owing as is supposed, to an irruption in its bed- formed a scene truly horrible.

John Reynolds (February 26, 1788 - May 8, 1865) who was the 4th governor of Illinois, among other political posts, mentions the earthquake in his biography My Own Times: Embracing Also the History of My Life (1855):

On the night of 16th November, 1811, an earthquake occurred, that produced great consternation amongst the people. The centre of the violence was in New Madrid, Missouri, but the whole valley of the Mississippi was violently agitated. Our family all were sleeping in a log cabin, and my father leaped out of bed crying aloud "the Indians are on the house" ... We laughed at the mistake of my father, but soon found out it was worse than the Indians. Not one in the family knew at the time that it was an earthquake. The next morning another shock made us acquainted with it, so we decided it was an earthquake. The cattle came running home bellowing with fear, and all animals were terribly alarmed on the occasion. Our house cracked and quivered, so we were fearful it would fall to the ground. In the American Bottom many chimneys were thrown down, and the church bell in Cahokia sounded by the agitation of the building. It is said the shock of an earthquake was felt in Kaskaskia in 1804, but I did not perceive it. The shocks continued for years in Illinois, and some have experienced it this year, 1855.

The Shaker diarist Samuel Swan McClelland described the effects of the earthquake on the Shaker settlement at West Union (Busro), Indiana, where the earthquakes contributed to the temporary abandonment of the westernmost Shaker community.

Consequence of the 1811-12 earthquakes

Sand blows were common throughout the area, and can still be seen from the air in cultivated fields. The shockwaves propagated efficiently through the firm midwestern bedrock, with residents as far away as Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and Norfolk, Virginia, awakened by intense shaking. Church bells were reported to ring as far as Boston, Massachusetts and York, Ontario (now Toronto), and sidewalks were reported to have been cracked and broken in Washington, D.C. There were also reports of toppled chimneys in Maine.

Disaster relief

A request, dated January 13, 1812, by William Clark (famous for his exploration of the American West with Meriwether Lewis and the Corps of Discovery from 1803 to 1805), then the governor of the Louisiana Territory (the territory was renamed the Missouri Territory soon after the quake to eliminate confusion with the new state of Louisiana), asked for federal relief for the "inhabitants of New Madrid County."

Whereas the Catalogue of miseries and afflictions, with which it has pleased the Supreme Being of the Universe to visit the inhabitants of the earth there are none more truly awful and destructive than Earthquakes ... The inhabitants of the late District now County of New Madrid, in this Territory, have lately been visited with several calamities of this kind, which have deluged large portions of their country and involved in the greatest distress many families, whilst others have been entirely ruined ... In the opinion of the said General Assembly provisions ought to be made by law for or cashiered to the said inhabitants relief, either out of the public fund or in some other way as may can meet to the cost demand availability of the General Government.

This is possibly the very first request that the U.S. Federal Government had received for aid from one of its territories.

Slave George murder

The earthquakes helped bring to justice the murderers of George Lewis (commonly known as "Slave George"). George was slain on the night of December 15-16, 1811 by two nephews of Thomas Jefferson, Lilburn Lewis and Isham Lewis, who were also relatives of Meriwether Lewis. After killing him with an axe in front of other slaves, George's owners intended to burn his remains, but the first New Madrid earthquake interrupted their effort, and so the corpse was interred in a brick chimney. The murder might well have escaped discovery by authorities, except that the January 23 and February 7 quakes caused the chimney to partially collapse, exposing George's remains. Lilburn and Isham Lewis were quickly investigated, arrested and charged. Lilburn killed himself; Isham escaped from jail and probably died during the War of 1812.

Geologic setting

The underlying cause of New Madrid earthquakes is not well understood, but modern faulting seems to be related to an ancient geologic feature buried under the Mississippi River alluvial plain, known as the Reelfoot Rift.

Reelfoot rift

The New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ) is made up of reactivated faults that formed when what is now North America began to split or rift apart during the breakup of the supercontinent Rodinia in the Neoproterozoic Era (about 750 million years ago). Faults were created along the rift and igneous rocks formed from magma that was being pushed towards the surface. The resulting rift system failed but has remained as an aulacogen (a scar or zone of weakness) deep underground. Another unsuccessful attempt at rifting 200 million years ago created additional faults, which made the area weaker. The resulting geological structures make up the Reelfoot Rift, and have since been deeply buried by younger sediments. But the ancient faults appear to have made the rocks deep in the Earth's crust in the New Madrid area mechanically weaker than much of the rest of North America.

This weakness, possibly combined with focusing effects from mechanically stronger igneous rocks nearby, allows the relatively small east-west compressive forces that exist in the North American plate to reactivate old faults, making the area prone to earthquakes.

Since other rifts are known to occur in North America's stress environment but not all are associated with modern earthquakes, (for example the Midcontinent Rift System that stretches from Minnesota to Kansas), other processes could be at work to locally increase mechanical stress on the New Madrid faults. Stress changes associated with bending of the lithosphere caused by the melting of continental glaciers at the end of the last Ice Age, has been considered to play a role, as well as downward pull from sinking igneous rock bodies below the fault. It has also been suggested that some form of heating in the lithosphere below the area may be making deep rocks more plastic, which concentrates compressive stress in the shallower subsurface area where the faulting occurs. There may be local stress from a change in the flow of the mantle beneath the NMSZ, caused by the sinking Farallon Plate, according to one model.

Seismic zone

When epicenters of modern earthquakes are plotted on a map, three trends become apparent. First is the general northeast-southwest trend paralleling the trend of the Reelfoot Rift, in Arkansas, south of where the epicenters turn northwest. This is a right-lateral strike-slip fault system parallel to the Reelfoot Rift.

The second is the southeast to northwest trend that occurs just southwest of New Madrid. This trend is a stepover thrust fault known as the Reelfoot Fault, associated with the Tiptonville dome and the impoundment of Reelfoot Lake. Epicenter locations on this fault are more spread out because the fault surface is inclined and dips into the ground, towards the south, at around forty degrees. Slip is towards the northeast. Motion on this fault in the 1811-1812 series created waterfalls on the Mississippi.

The third line, extending northeast from the northwestern end of the Reelfoot Fault is another right-lateral strike-slip fault, termed New Madrid North.

The epicenters of over 4,000 earthquakes can be identified from seismic measurements taken since 1974. It can be seen that the earthquakes originate from the seismic activity of the Reelfoot Rift. The zone which is colored in red on the map is called the New Madrid Seismic Zone.

Recent earthquakes

4000 earthquake reports since 1974

The zone remains active today. In recent decades minor earthquakes have continued. New forecasts estimate a 7 to 10 percent chance, in the next 50 years, of a repeat of a major earthquake like those that occurred in 1811-1812, which likely had magnitudes of between 7.5 and 8.0. There is a 25 to 40 percent chance, in a 50-year time span, of a magnitude 6.0 or greater earthquake.

Recurrence potential

In a report filed in November 2008, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency warned that a serious earthquake in the New Madrid Seismic Zone could result in "the highest economic losses due to a natural disaster in the United States," further predicting "widespread and catastrophic" damage across Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and particularly Tennessee, where a 7.7 magnitude quake or greater would cause damage to tens of thousands of structures affecting water distribution, transportation systems, and other vital infrastructure.

The potential for the recurrence of large earthquakes and their impact today on densely populated cities in and around the seismic zone has prompted research devoted to understanding the New Madrid Seismic Zone. By studying evidence of past quakes and closely monitoring ground motion and current earthquake activity, scientists attempt to understand their causes and recurrence intervals.

The lack of apparent land movement along the New Madrid fault system has long puzzled scientists. In 2009 two studies based on eight years of GPS measurements indicated that the faults were moving at no more than 0.2 millimeters (0.0079 in) a year. In contrast, the rate of slippage on the San Andreas Fault averages as much as 37 mm (1.5 in) a year across California.

Media being denied FOI requests for materials in David Gregory's ammo magazine case

If there is one lesson I have learned over my decade and a half
at Judicial Watch, it is this: you must never overestimate the hypocrisy
of the Left--especially in covering for their own.

Lest you have even the slightest doubt, cast an eye to the outrageous
behavior of District of Columbia Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan when
he allowed NBC-TV's David Gregory to walk away scot free for a firearm
offense, even while openly acknowledging "the clarity of the violation
of the law."

We don't know for certain what prompted Nathan to decline to prosecute
Gregory. We do know that, according to the Washington Post, until the
Republican sweep in 2010, he had been the House Democrats' top lawyer.
We also know that he was appointed attorney general by D.C. Democrat
Mayor Vincent Gray. And we know that some legal experts have questioned
why Nathan did not recuse himself from the case when it was discovered
that he had a personal relationship with David Gregory's wife. Clearly
more information was required.

On January 14, 2013, William A. Jacobson, founder and author of the
outstanding blog website, Legal Insurrection, submitted a District of
Columbia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the D.C.
Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and Office of the Attorney General
(OAG) seeking access to the following records:

  1. The January 9, 2013 letter from Lee Levine on behalf of David
Gregory, referenced in the letter datedJanuary 11, 2013 from Attorney
General Irvin B. Nathan to Mr. Levine which was publicly disclosed on
that date.

  2. All communications between the District of Columbia Office of
Attorney General and/or Metropolitan Police Department, on the one hand,
and legal counsel for David Gregory and/or NBC News, on the other hand,
with regard to the incident involving the display on television by Mr.
Gregory of an alleged high-capacity ammunition clip (the "Gregory
incident").

3. All documents in the possession of the MPD and OAG regarding the
Gregory incident, to the extent not exempted from disclosure under
applicable law, including but not limited to witness statements,
evidence review and possession records, interview notes, and forensic
testing.

On February 20, 2013, OAG informed Jacobson that it was withholding
certain requested records, including the January 9, 2013, letter from
NBC attorney Lee Levine, as well as responsive emails between OAG and
MPD. (We just learned the letter from Levine was made available to the
media, but is being withheld from us!)

The OAG also withheld in their entirety an affidavit and a warrant
responsive to the Jacobson FOIA request. On April 17, 2013, MPD informed
Jacobson that it was withholding responsive records as well. This past
week, Judicial Watch filed a FOIA lawsuit on Jacobson's behalf asking
that the Court to declare OAG and MDP in violation of the law and to
order them to produce the records without further delay.

The known facts in the Gregory case are simple. On Sunday December 23,
2012, the "Meet the Press" host interviewed the National Rifle
Association's Wayne LaPierre concerning firearms policy in the United
States. During the course of the interview, Gregory exhibited a
high-capacity ammunition clip. The possession of such an ammunition clip
is in violation of the law of the District of Columbia.

Gregory displayed the ammunition clip despite the fact that, according
to the D.C. Office of the Attorney General,"NBC was clearly and timely
advised by an MPD (Metropolitan Police Department) employee that its
plans to exhibit on the broadcast a high capacity magazine would violate
D.C. law, and there was no contrary advice from any other federal
official."

Some argued that, in accordance with D.C. law, Gregory should have been
charged with a weapons violation and taken into custody, as other
alleged offenders have been. The MPD failed to do so, however, and in
early January announced that it had completed its two-week investigation
and presented the case to the OAG "for a determination of the
prosecutorial merit of the case."

On January 11, 2013, after just two days of deliberation, Attorney
General Nathan sent a letter to NBC saying that his office would not
prosecute Gregory, "despite the clarity of the violation of this
important law." The Attorney General added, "There is no doubt of the
gravity of the illegal conduct in this matter..."

Yet, in what surely must be one of the most glaring non sequiturs I've
seen, Nathan then refused to prosecute Gregory. And the Washington
Times' outstanding editorialist Emily Miller well summed up the
absurdity of the situation when Gregory first committed his violation:

The District came up with its overly restrictive laws in response to the
Supreme Court overturning the capital city's 30-year gun ban. The
statutes shouldn't apply just to regular people but to the rich and
powerful as well. The District should either repeal its over-the-top
restrictions or send a squad car to take David Gregory into custody.

The way Gregory's prosecution decision was handled undermines confidence
in the fair administration of justice. If Gregory shouldn't be
prosecuted then no one should be - and the law should be rescinded. Our
client Prof. Jacobsen also is seeking justice in the public interest:

"The documents being withheld will help shed light on the details of
this highly publicized non-prosecution, which raised issues as to
whether well-connected and famous D.C. insiders were treated as any
other citizen in a similar situation. I appreciate Judicial Watch
assisting in this search for the truth."

Let's hope the courts put an end to this cover-up.

May 21, 2013 01:11 AM By Lauren Williams

Supporters of Hezbollah and relatives of Hasan Faisal Sheker, an 18-year-old Hezbollah member, carry the coffin during his funeral in Nabi Sheet near Baalbeck May 20, 2013

BEIRUT: The defected Syrian General and head of the opposition Supreme Military Council has issued a stern warning to the Lebanese government to stop Hezbollah forces from entering Syria or risk bringing the Syrian war to its doorstep.

In a broad-ranging interview via telephone from Jordan, where he is holding talks ahead of Thursday's "Friends of Syria" meeting, Gen. Salim Idriss lashed out at Hezbollah as religious extremists, while also claiming President Bashar Assad's government had lied about gains in the strategic city of Qusair over the weekend.

"The devil's party is attacking Syrian territory, slaughtering the Syrian people to help the criminal Bashar's forces," he said, referring to Hezbollah.

"They lied, they were not able to enter Qusair and the number of theirs killed was in the dozens," he said of fierce battles Sunday in the city, 40 km from the Lebanese border. "Their dead are lying on the streets."

Idriss said the Free Syrian Army was well armed and being reinforced, determined to defend the city.

"We respect Lebanon's sovereignty and we don't want to bring the battle to Lebanon, but our patience is running out," he said. "We want the Lebanese president to guarantee that Hezbollah will not enter our territory."

It is unclear if Idriss' warning implies a further escalation or simply a continuation of the repeated shelling of Hermel and other Bekaa Valley areas by rebel groups over the past month.

"These are religious extremists with no respect for the integrity of Lebanon, who have built a state under the state," he said of the party.

The general, touted by the U.S. as the best chance for unifying disparate opposition groups on the ground, also said the role of the extremist Nusra Front, labeled a terrorist organization for their links with Al-Qaeda, was exaggerated.

"There are no more than 5,000 fighters with Nusra,' Idriss said, "But there is an obsession in the Western media and a sophisticated propaganda campaign that overstates their role."

He said the military council did not work with Nusra, adding that efforts to unite rebel brigades under the council's umbrella had made headway, with "around 90 percent" of rebel forces now under its command."

The military council is appealing to the U.S. and other Arab backers of the opposition for more and heavier weapons to topple Assad. Concerns about the growing influence of extremists and a string of videos showing rebel human rights abuses have prompted concern among U.S. lawmakers that weapons could fall into the wrong hands.

"We condemn their practices which are against our law and our traditions. We are exerting efforts to educate the FSA on lawful practices and telling them not to put anyone on trial until the regime has fallen," he said.

He said there was evidence Nusra was infiltrated by the regime to legitimize fears of a Sunni extremist takeover, but admitted their methods, which have included extrajudicial killings, torture and suicide attacks, had tarnished the reputation of the opposition.

"There are suspicions that they are not working with the revolution, but are serving the regime interests."

Idriss appealed for all foreign fighters in Syria to leave, and pointed to the role of Hezbollah as "religious extremists' and a "foreign militia" to counter the regime's claims that the uprising was backed by foreign extremists.

"What is more dangerous: Hezbollah or Nusra?" he asked.

Idriss was doubtful the peace conference proposed by the U.S. and Russia: "The only discussion point is when and how Assad will leave and when the commanders of the criminal armed forces will be brought to trial."

Referring to an interview Assad gave with an Argentinian newspaper this week in which he said he would "not stand down," Idriss said a political solution appeared unlikely.

"The majority of Syrians don't want violence, but they don't want Assad. Unfortunately it seems the only way to unseat him is militarily."

"The fighters on the ground, the martyrs, who have spilled their blood, are ready to fight for another 100 years."

Al Arabiya

The rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) held Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah personally responsible for the situation in the Syrian border town of Qusayr, as sectarian tension was on the rise in neighboring Lebanon.

"We announced that Hassan Nasrallah will be held personally responsible for the current situation because he in person is meeting with all of before they head to Qusayr," FSA spokesperson Louay Almokdad told Al Arabiya English. "We are today calling Nasrallah a killer of the Syrian people."

Clashes between forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad - along with Lebanese ally Hezbollah - and the rebels raged into a second day Monday in the strategic town of Qusayr, which is between Damascus and the coast.

"It has reached the audacity and extent of criminal behavior that Nasrallah met with 1,200 of his fighters in the southern suburbs before they headed to ," the FSA spokesperson said, adding the Hezbollah chief has distributed "tokens of motivation on which Shiite slogans - Yatharat al-Hussein - were written to each of his fighters."

"We are certain these are fighters of Hassan Nasrallah. They are no longer Hezbollah, they are fighters of Hassan Nasrallah and Ali Khamanei."

However, the FSA spokesperson also said that, along with Hezbollah, were fighters from other Lebanese groups, including the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and the Baath Party.

The Syrian rebels have repeatedly warned that they will hit Hezbollah targets on Lebanese territory if the latter does not withdraw from Syria and have called on the Lebanese government to put a stop to Hezbollah intervention.

The Lebanese government: a state of paralysisHowever, according to Imad Salamey - a professor of International Affairs at the Lebanese American University in Beirut, the Lebanese government cannot do anything to stop the powerful Party of God.

"The Lebanese government has been and continues to be in a state of paralysis, which mostly works in Hezbollah's interest," Salamey told Al Arabiya English on Monday. "The government cannot stop Hezbollah, and the army stopping Hezbollah from intervening in Syria will definitely not be the case."

"Hezbollah is being dragged further into the Syrian conflict, and it is not going to end in Qusayr," he said, adding that the movement "was dragging Lebanon into a civil war."

" involvement in the Syrian issue, no matter what the pretext, will only drag Lebanon into the conflict because the Lebanese are divided ."

At least three people were killed and 40 injured in two days of fighting in Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli, where an Alawite minority lives. Lebanese Sunnis mostly sympathize with the revolt against the government of Bashar al-Assad, whose minority Alawite sect is an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

GMO Crop Sabotage on the Rise: French citizens destroy trial vineyard

GMO Crop Sabotage on the Rise: French citizens destroy trial vineyard

GMO grapevines destroyed (AFP)

By Rady Ananda
Food Freedom

Early Sunday morning, French police stood helpless as sixty people, locked inside an open-air field of genetically modified grapevines, uprooted all the plants. In Spain last month, dozens of people destroyed two GMO fields. On the millennial cusp, Indian farmers burned Bt cotton in their Cremate Monsanto campaign. Ignored by multinational corporations and corrupt public policy makers, citizens act to protect the food supply and the planet.

The French vineyard is the same field attacked last year when the plants were only cut. But the security features installed after that incident kept authorities at bay while the group accomplished its mission yesterday.

Speaking for the group, Olivier Florent told Le Figero that they condemned the use of public funds for open-field testing of GMOs "that we do not want."

Pitching tents in the rain near France's National Institute for Agronomic Research (INRA) site in Colmar the night before, the group waited until 5 AM before converging on the site and locking the gates behind them. They uprooted all 70 plants, then submitted to arrest.

This is the second attack on GMO crops to make international news this year. In July dozens of people destroyed two experimental corn crops in Spain. In an anonymous press release , they wrote, "This kind of direct action is the best way to respond to the fait accompli policy through which the Generalitat, the State and the biotech multinationals have been unilaterally imposing genetically modified organisms."

In the late 1990s, Indian farmers burnt Bt cotton fields in their Cremate Monsanto campaign. Monsanto did not disclose to farmers that the GM seeds were experimental. "Despite the heavy use of chemical fertiliser, traces of which still can be observed in the field, the Bt plants grew miserably, less than half the size of the traditional cotton plants in the adjacent fields."

After the Haiti earthquake this year, Monsanto offered 475 tons of hybrid corn and terminator vegetable seeds in partnership with USAID. In June, 10,000 Haitian farmers marched in protest of the "poison gift" which produces no viable seeds for future plantings and requires heavy chemical inputs. Haitian farm leader Chavannes Jean-Baptiste observed that the biotech plan makes farmers dependent on multinational corporations.

In the US, GMOs were secretly foisted on the public in the mid-1990s, and only now is the US Supreme Court addressing the scourge. In June, the high court upheld partial deregulation of GM alfalfa , which permits limited planting while the USDA prepares an Environmental Impact Statement. Natural and organic alfalfa supply is threatened by the very real potential of GM contamination. This would destroy the organic meat and dairy industry.

Last Friday, a federal court took a tougher position on GM sugar beets. Judge Jeffrey S. White revoked USDA approval of the GM beet , while allowing for its planting this year only.

Also this month, a British farmer exposed that milk and meat from cloned animals had secretly entered the food supply.

Public opposition to GM crops has grown in recent years as more evidence surfaces that DNA-altered crops:

Require massive chemical inputs which destroy local biodiversity and poison the water tables; Cross-pollinate with natural and weedy crops; Create superweeds ; and Have been shown to cause organ damage , sterility , and diabetes and obesity in mammals. Meanwhile, President Obama has stacked his Administration with biotech insiders going so far as to appoint Islam Siddiqui as Agriculture Trade Negotiator. Siddiqui is a former pesticide lobbyist and vice president of CropLife America, a biotech and pesticide trade group that lobbies to weaken environmental laws.

The US is pushing hard at the world to accept GM foods. Recently, the American Farm Bureau Federation called for stronger sanctions against the European Union for its GM crop ban.

But as governments and trade agreements circumvent the will of the people, some take matters into their own hands. The rise in GMO crop destruction is a clear indication that the world's people reject chemical and genetic pollution of the food supply and the environment.

Sharp rise in jail terms for Afghan rape and abuse victims

Statistics obtained from Afghanistan's Interior Ministry by the campaign group Human Rights Watch reveal the number of women and girls convicted of 'moral crimes,' which include running away from home has increased by 50 per cent in the last year from 400 to 600.

Many of the 600 women jailed in the last year are victims of sexual assault and domestic abuse whose only crime was to run away from their assailants, the group said.

It called on the Afghan government to enforce its own Elimination of Violence Against Women (EVAW), and to stop its judges punishing female victims.

Although it is not a crime in Afghanistan for women to run away, the group said the country's judges, including members of its Supreme Court, regard women who run away from their homes as criminals. Many of them who flee rapes and other assaults have been charged with seeking sex outside marriage, known as Zina in Afghanistan.

Those jailed for Zina include women and girls who have been raped or forced into prostitution, the group said.

Earlier this year Human Rights Watch released its report I had to Run Away, which revealed that half of all women and 95 per cent of girls in Afghan jails had been convicted of 'moral crimes' of running away or sex outside marriage.

A report by Oxfam found that 87 per cent of Afghan women had suffered sexual and physical abuse and been forced into unwanted marriages.

Earlier this year a 22 year old woman, Gulnaz, who was jailed for Zina after she was raped and impregnated by her cousin's husband decided to marry her attacker to spare her daughter the stigma of being born out of wedlock. She had been 'pardoned' for her crime by President Karzai and released following an international outcry.

"Four years after the adoption of a law on violence against women and twelve years after Taliban rule, women are still imprisoned for being victims of forced marriage, domestic violence, and rape. The Afghan government needs to get tough on abusers of women, and stop blaming women who are crime victims," said Brad Adams, Asia director of Human Rights Watch.

The group called on President Karzai to issue a decree clarifying that 'running away' is not a crime and other crimes, like Zina should not be used to punish runaways.

The 2009 Elimination of Violence Against Women law, which was inctroduced by a presidential decree, has yet to be passed by the Afghan parliament which voiced its opposition once again on Saturday. Islamic conservatives in the parliament are opposed to provisions which make it illegal for a father to stop his daughter marrying a man of her choice.

They also oppose for women who have fled sexual abuse and violence and claim they are 'immoral' houses of prostitution and casual sex. Some support amendments which would legalise forced and child marriages and domestic assaults in some circumstances.

Last year just over one in five of 470 violence against women cases resulted in conviction.

A man who set up a video camera to capture paranormal activity in his kitchen instead recorded evidence of his partner engaging in a sexual relationship with his 16-year-old son, the Supreme Court heard today.

A 28-year-old woman -- who cannot be named for legal reasons -- pleaded guilty to five counts of having sexual intercourse with a young person.

Crown Prosecutor Jackie Hartnett told the court in October last year the woman had gone to her stepson's room to discuss his driving lessons.

Although the pair had previously had a strained relationship, tickling led to kissing and then to intercourse, the prosecutor said.

The following day, the woman's de facto partner set up a video camera in a bid to capture evidence of paranormal activity in the house, but forgot to turn it off.

When he returned from work and reviewed the footage, he saw his son and the woman kissing and cuddling.

He questioned his partner, who downplayed the incident but his son confessed that they had sex three times in the preceding days.

The man called the police and the woman admitted during a video recorded interview to having sex with the boy twice and admitted knowing he was sixteen.

Ms Hartnett told the court that in the following weeks the woman followed the boy to another part of the state where they had sex several times in a hotel room.

Defence lawyer Steve Chopping said his client has been in a relationship with the boy's father for 11 years and the couple had a young child and the incident had split the couple up.

The woman had been under the mistaken impression the age of consent was 16 and was ashamed and embarrassed at her conduct and was working on reconciling with her former partner.

"She accepts this is not a relationship which can or will continue," he told the court.

Justice David Porter remanded the woman in custody and will sentence her on Monday.

FSA Heroes, Lions, Mujahideen Generals/Commanders Get Flogged For Raping Virgin Goats

Confirmed reports coming in from all around the world, including independent, honest, truthful media outlets, that 2 FSA supreme commanders/generals were caught with their pants down, raping 2 male virgin goats last night.

The 2 commanders stated they were tired of their monogamous homosexual relationship and wanted to bring some 'spice and excitement' to their monotonous sex life.

CNN journalist interviewed the two generals before the public flogging, performed in full accordance with Sharia Laws, and asked them why they chose to penetrate virgin male goats, to which the men replied: "Well it's very simple actually - we have very small penises, so any female goat orifice would not provide adequate pleasure for us, the male goats were untouched and uncorrupted - plus they closely reminded us of our child soldiers and chai-boys, so it was only natural for us to act this way."

During the flogging, one FSA Lion commander proceeded to pretend he was swimming like a fish in the dirt, while his younger counterpart asked for more punishment, including sewing his orifices closed to prevent the older FSA Hero general from molesting him in his sleep without his knowledge."

World leaders are reacting to these shocking news - President Obama requested that all public floggings must stop immediately until US contractors can supply clean dirt to Syria for public floggings/executions. The president was quoted as saying "No man deserves to swim like a fish in dirty dirt - America will not stand for it!"

His Russian counterpart, President Putin, made an official announcement offering "Safety and non-penetration guarantee with immediate Russian visas to all Syrian goats under FSA control, regardless whether they are sunni or shiite goats, male or female..." and concluded with "While my American adversary is concerned with the quality of dirt, I as a true humanitarian, only care about the most important factor in this conflict - the safety of these innocent goats!"

Stay tuned for follow up story regarding massive FSA loses all over Syria.

"Early in 2007 Seymour Hersh in his report "The Redirection" published in
the New Yorker that the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia and others were
gathering, funding, arming, and deploying a front of violent sectarian
extremists, many with ties to Al Qaeda, to undermine, destabilize, and
eventually lead to the overthrow of the governments of Lebanon, Syria,
and Iran. The violent campaign was rolled out publicly in the wake of a
similarly premeditated geopolitical ploy, the so-called "Arab Spring,"

By: Seymour M. Hersh
March 5, 2007
The New Yorker

In the past few months, as the situation in Iraq
has deteriorated, the Bush Administration, in both its public diplomacy
and its covert operations, has significantly shifted its Middle East
strategy. The "redirection," as some inside the White House have called
the new strategy, has brought the United States closer to an open
confrontation with Iran and, in parts of the region, propelled it into a
widening sectarian conflict between Shiite and Sunni Muslims.
To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush
Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in
the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has co"operated with
Saudi Arabia's government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations
that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is
backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations
aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has
been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant
vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.
One contradictory aspect of the new strategy is that, in Iraq, most
of the insurgent violence directed at the American military has come
from Sunni forces, and not from Shiites. But, from the Administration's
perspective, the most profound-and unintended-strategic consequence of
the Iraq war is the empowerment of Iran. Its President, Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad, has made defiant pronouncements about the destruction of
Israel and his country's right to pursue its nuclear program, and last
week its supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on state
television that "realities in the region show that the arrogant front,
headed by the U.S. and its allies, will be the principal loser in the
region."

After the revolution of 1979 brought a religious government to power,
the United States broke with Iran and cultivated closer relations with
the leaders of Sunni Arab states such as Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi
Arabia. That calculation became more complex after the September 11th
attacks, especially with regard to the Saudis. Al Qaeda is Sunni, and
many of its operatives came from extremist religious circles inside
Saudi Arabia. Before the invasion of Iraq, in 2003, Administration
officials, influenced by neoconservative ideologues, assumed that a
Shiite government there could provide a pro-American balance to Sunni
extremists, since Iraq's Shiite majority had been oppressed under Saddam
Hussein. They ignored warnings from the intelligence community about
the ties between Iraqi Shiite leaders and Iran, where some had lived in
exile for years. Now, to the distress of the White House, Iran has
forged a close relationship with the Shiite-dominated government of
Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki.

The new American policy, in its broad outlines, has been discussed
publicly. In testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee in
January, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said that there is "a new
strategic alignment in the Middle East," separating "reformers" and
"extremists"; she pointed to the Sunni states as centers of moderation,
and said that Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah were "on the other side of that
divide." (Syria's Sunni majority is dominated by the Alawi sect.) Iran
and Syria, she said, "have made their choice and their choice is to
destabilize."

Some of the core tactics of the redirection are not public, however.
The clandestine operations have been kept secret, in some cases, by
leaving the execution or the funding to the Saudis, or by finding other
ways to work around the normal congressional appropriations process,
current and former officials close to the Administration said.
A senior member of the House Appropriations Committee told me that he
had heard about the new strategy, but felt that he and his colleagues
had not been adequately briefed. "We haven't got any of this," he said.
"We ask for anything going on, and they say there's nothing. And when we
ask specific questions they say, 'We're going to get back to you.' It's
so frustrating."

The key players behind the redirection are Vice-President Dick
Cheney, the deputy national-security adviser Elliott Abrams, the
departing Ambassador to Iraq (and nominee for United Nations
Ambassador), Zalmay Khalilzad, and Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the Saudi
national-security adviser. While Rice has been deeply involved in
shaping the public policy, former and current officials said that the
clandestine side has been guided by Cheney. (Cheney's office and the
White House declined to comment for this story; the Pentagon did not
respond to specific queries but said, "The United States is not planning
to go to war with Iran.")

The policy shift has brought Saudi Arabia and Israel into a new
strategic embrace, largely because both countries see Iran as an
existential threat. They have been involved in direct talks, and the
Saudis, who believe that greater stability in Israel and Palestine will
give Iran less leverage in the region, have become more involved in
Arab-Israeli negotiations.
The new strategy "is a major shift in American policy-it's a sea
change," a U.S. government consultant with close ties to Israel said.
The Sunni states "were petrified of a Shiite resurgence, and there was
growing resentment with our gambling on the moderate Shiites in Iraq,"
he said. "We cannot reverse the Shiite gain in Iraq, but we can contain
it."

"It seems there has been a debate inside the government over what's
the biggest danger-Iran or Sunni radicals," Vali Nasr, a senior fellow
at the Council on Foreign Relations, who has written widely on Shiites,
Iran, and Iraq, told me. "The Saudis and some in the Administration have
been arguing that the biggest threat is Iran and the Sunni radicals are
the lesser enemies. This is a victory for the Saudi line."
