A Defeat for the Muslim Brotherhood. A Model for Winning.

Political Islam by Bill Warner, Director, Center for the Study of Political Islam

The Muslim Brotherhood was handed a tactical defeat on June 4, 2013 in Manchester, TN. The FBI and DOJ (Department of Justice) appeared at a meeting called by AMAC (American Muslim Advisory Council - Muslim Brotherhood) in Manchester, TN. It was to include a talk by a US Assistant Attorney General and an FBI agent in charge. The meeting was due to a joke posted by a Coffee County Commissioner on Face Book. The DOJ Assistant Attorney General Killian said in a newspaper interview that the joke might be in the category of a hate crime. Over 1200 people came from all over the US to a meeting in a town of 10,000. The web had buzzed about free speech in Manchester and talk radio chimed in.

In the course of the presentation by Killian, several in the audience began to shout our retorts to him. At first some in audience tried to shush them, but the momentum began to build and the shouted challenges increased in numbers and volume. It should be noted that the shouts were factual and knowledgeable. An example: when it was mentioned how hard it was to be a Muslim refugee: "Free medical care, welfare and scholarships tough to take?" When Killian said that DOJ protected voter rights, the shouts were to the tune of: "You mean like protecting the Panthers in Philadelphia?"

There were also knowledgeable shouts about Islam: "We don't care about the religion, it's the politics. No Sharia."
When Killian mentioned Eric Holder, the room erupted with thunderous boos. People were angry about the Feds. The FBI agent presented a better face, but he got blow back as well. Chants of "Ruby Ridge" and "Waco" rang out. This was a "mad as hell and not going to take it anymore" attitude.

There has been both praise and condemnation of the crowd. But to understand it, you had to be there. There was a palpable pent up anger about a long string of corruption out of the Obama White House: the IRS scandals; Major Nidal Hassan's jihad called "work place violence"; vacuuming up everybody's phone records; and more. They felt that the Feds were here to talk down to them, not to answer questions.
The Feds came to talk down to them since they are considered rednecks. Those rural white people who are not politically correct are called rednecks. Rednecks are the only under-class who have no protection or advocacy. They are the only group that can be mocked, ridiculed and made the butt of jokes. The worst of the ghetto blacks are forbidden to be called the equivalent of redneck, the N word. There is no RN word. Nope, they are rednecks, trailer trash, crackers, white trash and worse.
Another measure of society's hatred of rednecks it this: if the shouters in the audience had been black, the media would have said that they were: "Speaking truth to power". They would be reported as victims against oppression and fighters for social justice. But rednecks are called bigots and ignorant haters. Why did the rednecks have to come and oppose political Islam? Simple, our leaders will not do the job.

The leaders in the pulpits of America are professionally ignorant cowards. Ministers and rabbis go to Family of Abraham events with Muslims and tip toe around any criticism. They cry over the Crusades and believe whatever they are told by Muslims. Over 100,000 Christians were murdered last year and there is an ongoing jihad against Israel, but not a word will be spoken to the Muslims about the Islamic crimes. Tears will be shed over graffiti on a mosque, but not one mention of Christians being machine gunned at Christmas services in Egypt.

What university has ever held an event where the jihad doctrine of Islam is discussed? Critical thought and fact-based reasoning are not allowed in their forums and curricula. The history of the deaths of 270 million Kafirs has no place in history departments. Sharia cruelty is not taught in feminist studies. No word about Islam may be spoken without approval from the MSA (Muslim Students Association, a Muslim Brotherhood front.)
Will law enforcement and the military protect us against political Islam? They do not even recognize the existence of an Islamic threat doctrine. All information about Islam in terrorism training must be approved by the Muslim Brotherhood. Will the media protect our civilization in a civilizational jihad? Not just no, but hell no! The media is Islam's mouthpiece and a savage opponent of everyone who opposes Sharia law.

What about American business? Islamic business fuels civilizational war with unlimited funds, just as the Koran commands. As an 11 year veteran counter-jihadist, I am unaware of American business support for the counter-jihadists. There may be small donations, but no systemic funding. Muslims get billions, and our fighters get a thousand. How will that work out?
Well, if the preachers, rabbis, professors, reporters, military, politicians, law enforcement and business are absent in a civilizational war, who shows up? Isolated warriors such as Spencer, Geller, Bostom, and others are the front line fighters. Oh, and Tennessee rednecks.
The Tea Party types and conservatives say that we should always be polite. My personal experience is that I have presented talks about political Islam that are very civil and polite for years. It doesn't make any difference. I am still called a bigot, hater, Islamophobe, racist and merchant of hate. I have been told by community leaders that it is people like me that stir up the terror. They say I am an unpleasant man who frightens people. The Southern Poverty Law Center says that I am one of America's top 10 bigots. "Doing it right" is judged to be immoral. Being nicer may not be the way to win a civilizational war.
Our society has become so wimpy and politically correct that there is no longer any righteous anger. We have become a nation of pleasant liars who are never angered at society's outrages. We are ever so polite to those who destroy our civilization. We are a nation of zombies, but polite zombies. There have been over 20,000 jihad attacks since September 11, 2001, but you don't want to mention that since someone might become uncomfortable or be offended.

For years we have watched as Muslims and dhimmis (apologists) have put on a multicultural love fest with Islam. In every case Islam has dominated. This was the first time in 11 years that the Kafirs dominated the information battle space in Tennessee - the first time.

How do we dominate the information battle space without shouting? Analyze what went right at Manchester. Here is what we and the rednecks did right:

o We showed up. Now is in this case we had 1500 show up, but we cannot use massive attendance as a usual tactic. However, a normal AMAC event would have put out chairs for a 100 people. We don't need but a dozen people to dominate the meeting with information.

o We knew the doctrine of political Islam. We knew when people were lying or telling a half-truth.

o We knew the event was happening. We had intelligence and knew who the players were.

o We opposed the lies by voice, leaflet and signs. This is what rednecks bring to the party-rednecks are not politically correct and speak their minds. (That is part of the reason that they are hated.) They don't give a hoot what the media/government/church types think. This spirit must be carried into every meeting. We must speak up and speak out. This is hard for those who are ruled by being "nice."
We must learn how to co-opt the events without shouting. We must be organized and show up at every public event where Muslims come together with their ignorant dhimmi (apologist) partners. All of these events should become information battles. We should show up with signs and leaflets. If they will not allow signs, then bring cloth banners which can be put into bags and backpacks. We must do these things politely, but with authority like a warrior. And forget about the question and answer session for scoring points - the Q and A is always: write down your questions and we will select the ones we want to answer.

We must invite the Muslim Brotherhood and all of their supporters, such as government agencies and ministers, to our own events to explain their position to us, not in their power position of speaking down to us, but in a round table event centered on fact based reasoning.
The Manchester event was a rough hewn victory. We must learn lessons from it and then show up for every battle against this civilizational jihad.

By DANIEL HENNINGER

The IRS audits and NSA surveillance flow into the same national anxieties.
OPINION June 12, 2013, 6:55 p.m. ET Here is Barack Obama commenting last Friday on the National Security Agency's antiterrorist surveillance programs: "We've got congressional oversight and judicial oversight. And if people can't trust not only the executive branch but also don't trust Congress and don't trust federal judges to make sure that we're abiding by the Constitution, due process and rule of law, then we're going to have some problems here."

Uh-huh.

Herewith a partial list of political groups that said they were subjected to over-the-top audits by the Internal Revenue Service:

Greenwich Tea Party Patriots, Greater Phoenix Tea PartyPatriots, Laurens County Tea Party, Northeast Tarrant Tea Party, Myrtle Beach Tea Party, Albuquerque Tea Party, San Antonio Tea Party, Richmond Tea Party, Manassas Tea Party, Honolulu Tea Party, Waco Tea Party, Chattanooga Tea Party and American Patriots Against Government Excess.

What that target list shows is there was never one "tea party." It was collections of citizens spontaneously gathering all over the country under one easy-to-remember name. Their purpose was to do politics. For that, their government hit them hard.

In January the pollsters at the Pew Research Center reported that for the first time a majority of Americans-53%-now agree that "the federal government threatens your own personal rights and freedoms."

This is far beyond concerns about the size of government. A majority of people now see the government of Madison, Jefferson and Franklin as a direct, personal threat.

So yes, we have "some problems" here.

People ask whether the IRS scandal will damage the president. Who knows? It depends on who talks to avoid prison. The IRS audits matter because they are a destructive event that happened at a particularly unsettled moment in the country's political and social life.

Cynics say presidents have always sicced the IRS on opponents. Perhaps. But those were simpler times. The IRS audit scandal and the NSA's metadata surveillance may be apples and oranges, but for many the distinctions aren't so obvious. We live today inside a constant torrent of big government and big data. No one should be surprised if a political backlash, however inarticulate, forms against both for inconsistent reasons.

Consider what people are asked to absorb in the news flow now-some of it political, some not. Beyond the IRS audits and NSA surveillance we have a Department of Justice penetrating press activity protected by the First Amendment, stories about Iran's hackers accessing the control-room software of U.S. energy firms, China hacking into everything, reports last month of cyberthieves siphoning millions of dollars from ATMs, rivers of email spam that fill inboxes alongside constant warnings to protect yourself against phishing and malware by storing industrial-strength passwords on encrypted flash drives, stories in this newspaper about social-media apps that exist mainly to collect your personal data for sale to advertisers.

Books have been written about governments using Web technology to censor and control their populations. What's good and evil, helpful and menacing, comes at us with equal force from the same technologies. "Dual-use" was formerly a phrase used mostly in the military. We're all living in a dual-use world now.

Electronic sophisticates say it's all good. Sun Microsystems' former CEO Scott McNealy famously said: "You have zero privacy. Get over it." That's what he thinks. This is a sum-of-all-fears environment tailor-made for eventually producing a public backlash. It's already in the water, with Sen. Rand Paul offering a Fourth Amendment Restoration Act, which he says would stop the NSA's data-mining program. That would be the one protecting us all from homicidal Islamist bombers.

Scott McNealy was almost right. Unavoidably, the citizens of the U.S. or any free society will have to reach an accommodation-a modus vivendi-with complex systems created by experts with abstruse knowledge. But if so, those citizens need to be free to talk about the terms of their accommodations. In short, they need to be free to do politics.

Effective antiterrorism programs such as metadata surveillance or for that matter efforts to produce progress through genetic manipulation may seem self-evidently good to their proponents. But these technologies are inevitably controversial and will only survive if they gain public support. Today that means exposing them to politics.

The goal of the IRS audits was to suppress politics, to shut up those "conservative" tea-party groups to increase the odds that Mr. Obama's side would win. One doubts that Mr. Obama's supporters were distressed about it. But this week they're stressed about "an alarming age of surveillance."

Whatever inchoate anxieties predated this presidency are now worse: a politics rife with suspicion and retribution, and most of the people believing the government, for starters, threatens their freedom.

One may hope Mr. Obama has sufficient political skill to protect the antiterrorism structures he inherited. It will be the job of the next president to prevent the public's sense of personal political threat from heading toward 60% and beyond.

Did a Texas court reassert its dedication to law and order? Or did prosecutors take "to the fullest extent of the law" too far?

That's the question some are asking after Wednesday's jury sentencing in the case of 43-year-old Willie Smith Ward, who was sentenced to 50 years in prison for stealing a $35 rack of ribs from a Waco grocery store, then purportedly telling an employee who tried to stop the crime, "I got a knife."

The minor theft is a serious matter, though, because Ward it comes after nine other convictions: "For burglary, attempted robbery, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident and possession of cocaine and four misdemeanor convictions, including two thefts," the Waco Tribune reports .

"This verdict shows that the citizens of this county will not tolerate a continued disrespect and disregard for other people and their property," said Assistant District Attorney J.R. Vicha, who prosecuted Ward with Chris Bullajian. "People who choose to do so will be dealt with seriously and appropriately."

Ward will have to serve a quarter of the sentence before being eligible for parole. He turned down prosecutors' plea offer of 20 years prior to his appearance in court.

On the upside, at least he didn't get the rack . . .

CRAWFORD - Former President George W. Bush needed little help to blaze a trail Friday for 14 veterans mountain biking with him through open prairies, slick ravines and steep canyons.

That's because he brought the third annual Warrior 100K Ride - a three-day mountain biking trek to honor service members injured in Afghanistan and Iraq - to the well-worn paths at his Prairie Chapel Ranch outside of Waco.

But even as Bush welcomed the wounded warriors to his home to thank them for their service, he made clear that his mission to help veterans extends well beyond the trails that snake through his 1,500-acre "slice of heaven."

"You can do more than just ride mountain bikes with veterans," said Bush, who still owns the ranch but lives mostly in Dallas. "You can help a veteran find a job. You can help a veteran who's homeless. You can feed a veteran. You can love a veteran."

The George W. Bush Institute has launched its Circles of Excellence program, which convenes experts to recognize groups that are doing good work with veterans and share those practices with others.

The program's pilot endeavor, which began in February, focuses on helping veterans find jobs. Bush said efforts will soon ramp up on finding "what works and what doesn't" in several other areas that affect veterans.

"It's all aiming to make sure the outpouring of support that's pretty predominant in our country is channeled in a way that's effective," he said.

The Bush Institute has long planned to focus on veterans, and its annual mountain bike ride and golf tournament are ways for Bush to interact with the troops in a personal setting.

The former president took advantage Friday of the ride's second day - a grueling 30-mile course - to share in some competitive banter, encourage the veterans to keep pushing and yell out his favorite trail call: "Yeah, baby!"

Bush, not known for waiting around, teased some of the riders at a pit stop for being slow to saddle. "This isn't a picnic," he said. The veterans said they appreciated the former president's attitude.

"He's one of the guys," said retired Army Staff Sgt. Omar Romney.

Ways to help

As Bush Institute officials searched for ways to help the nation's 22 million veterans, they started looking at the thousands of charities, nonprofits and other groups that assist service members.

"We don't pretend at the Bush Institute that we have all the answers," said Jim Glassman, the institute's director. "But there are a lot of good organizations out there and a lot of good leaders who do have a lot of answers. The issue is getting and distributing those answers."

The institute further defined its mission by creating Circles of Excellence. The program will be developed in more detail when Army Col. Miguel Howe begins in June as the military service initiative's director.

The institute plans to focus Circles of Excellence on jobs, housing, education, families, health care and women's issues. Officials want to aid both veterans looking for help and donors searching for groups to support.

The institute surveyed about 500 veterans on where they've received help and where they need more assistance. The survey found employment to be a top concern for veterans, particularly those who've served since 9/11.

Veterans who have fought in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, both started during the Bush presidency, have come home to an increasingly difficult job market. The economic crisis hit toward the end of Bush's second term, and there has yet to be a full recovery.

The unemployment rate among post-9/11 veterans has decreased in recent months, matching the country's overall rate in April at 7.5 percent. But it averaged 9.9 percent just a year ago, and younger veterans and those with disabilities have an even harder time.

Romney, the retired Army staff sergeant, recalled after Friday's ride the difficulties he faced after his discharge in 2004.

Struggling with physical and mental war wounds, he went to interview after interview with no success. He had thoughts of suicide as he weighed how to provide for his family. He started leaving his cane at home out of fear that it might make him seem unfit for the job.

"It's frustrating," said Romney, who lives in Tennessee. "Nobody wants to hire somebody with a cane."

Romney eventually landed a position with the Defense Department and then the Veterans Affairs Department, though he left his job last year to focus on his health. Having since received his medical retirement, he hopes to find work related to his love of cycling.

Continuing issue

The employment issue isn't likely to disappear anytime soon, especially as more troops return as a result of the military drawdown in Afghanistan. Sensing that urgency, the Bush Institute chose to focus its first Circles of Excellence program on employment.

"Right now there's a passionate interest among individual Americans and business in helping veterans," Glassman said. "But as these troops are withdrawn, the interest of many Americans unfortunately may shift."

The jobs pilot brought together the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Hiring Our Heroes program, American Corporate Partners, Bank of America and Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families.

Bush tapped retired Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to lead the effort.

The group has already made a lot of progress.

The U.S. government has increased its outreach in the last few years by improving its transition assistance program and by giving businesses tax credits for hiring veterans. Private sector groups, such as the U.S. Chamber, have helped tens of thousands of veterans land jobs.

While research has shown that both veterans and potential employers are concerned with how military skills can translate to the civilian workplace, experts said companies are starting to realize the business argument for hiring veterans.

"If you hire some of these men and women, who've done what they've done, they're going to be a cut above the rest," said Army Maj. Kent Solheim, a W100 rider who mentors wounded warriors both in and out of the service.

Now the Bush Institute turns to distilling those successes, finding ways to measure their effectiveness and then detailing how others can follow suit. Early plans are for the institute to host a conference this fall to reveal what's been learned so far from the jobs pilot.

Howe, who got an early start Friday on his new gig as the institute's military service director by hopping on a mountain bike, said the employment research is already leading the initiative into the other areas they want to study.

"What we're finding is that all of these issues are connected," he said. "It's not just the service member or the veteran, but his family. ... Our fighting men and women are the strength of this nation, but those families are the strength of those service members."

Signature events: Former President George W. Bush hosts two annual events to honor wounded veterans: the Warrior 100K Ride, a three-day mountain biking trek in the spring, and the Warrior Open golf tournament in the fall.

Circles of Excellence: The institute recently launched this program to look at ways to help veterans with jobs, housing, education, their families, health care and women's issues. The initiative will convene military leaders, businesses, charities and academics to highlight efforts that work.

Jobs pilot: The institute began its work on veterans and employment in February. The endeavor has brought together the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Hiring Our Heroes program, American Corporate Partners, Bank of America and Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families. It's being led by retired Marine Corps Gen. Peter Pace, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

New director: Army Col. Miguel Howe will come on board as the institute's military service director in June. He attended this year's W100 and even hopped on a mountain bike.
