By Brad Wilmouth
June 17, 2013 18:21
On Saturday's Melissa Harris-Perry on MSNBC, substitute anchor Ari Melber hosted a panel of liberals fretting over Republican efforts to restrict abortion, with one guest even theorizing that Republicans are motivated by a racist desire to prevent white women from having abortions as a way of "reproducing whiteness, white supremacy, white privilege."

Melber seemed quite accepting of University of Pennsylvania Assistant Professor Salamisha Tillet's preposterous idea of pro-lifers being motivated by racism as he responded:

And you're talking not only then about a potentially religious view about life, you're talking about social control. I mean, that goes to some of these programs that are different than just necessarily a position that people disagree with. They also say, no, we need to go into the doctor's room, we need to tell women under threat of, as I mentioned, criminalization of their doctor's conduct or as a prerequisite to doing anything, how they should analyze their medical care, whether to have an ultrasound. Do you think that is a piece of it, too, the social control, Raul?

Without noting that a disproportionately large percentage of women who have abortions are minorities, Assistant Professor Tillet theorized that Republicans are in a "panic" because of the growing number of minorities and characterized "women of color" as being "caught in the fray" when Republicans try to restrict abortion. Tillet:

Well, I think, the Census just released data, so part of it is the changing racial demographics in the United States. For the first time in American history, children born under the age of five are racial, the majority of them are racial and ethnic minorities in the U.S.

So I think that there's a kind of moral panic, a fear of the end of whiteness that we've been seeing a long time in that I think, you know, Obama's ascension as President kind of symbolizes to a certain degree. And so I think this is one response to that sense that there's a decreasing white majority in the country and that women's bodies and white women's bodies in particular are obviously a crucial way of reproducing whiteness, white supremacy, white privilege. And so I think it's just a kind of clamping down on women's bodies, in particular white women's bodies, even though women of color are really caught in the fray.

As the group discussed the issue, there notably was an image of a giant uterus with the GOP elephant symbol inside it displayed on screen behind them.

Earlier in the show, Melber used the kind of rhetoric that would make regular host Melissa Harris-Perry proud as he teased the show charging that there is a "Republican obsession with controlling your uterus."

He later plugged the segment:

Coming up next, gird your loins. Republican lawmakers are coming, and they're coming for reproductive rights fast and furious.

After recounting efforts to restrict abortion in several states, Melber continued:

So don't let the talk of a more women-friendly party fool you, and don't believe them when they say that jobs and the economy are clearly the main thing they're focused on. This is the mainstream Republican mission now, with the backing of the House Speaker and a slew of governors who could be serious presidential candidates in 2016. So, as we said, make no mistake and gird your loins, this is what Republicans are about.

Below is a transcript of the relevant portion of the Saturday, June 15, Melissa Harris-Perry show on MSNBC:

ARI MELBER: This morning, my question: would a linebacker by any other name smell as sweaty? Plus, the Republican obsession with controlling your uterus. And New York's billionaire mayor -- an ally or fair weather friend? But first, President Obama stares down the haters to get a big win.

(...)

MELBER: All right, coming up next, gird your loins. Republican lawmakers are coming, and they're coming for reproductive rights fast and furious. And we're going to talk to Michael Bloomberg's deputy mayor about the billionaire's big plan to make money talk and the guy safety battle. More Nerdland at the top of the hour.

(...)

MELBER, AT 11:00 A.M.: House Republicans have begun a plan to limit and potentially ban types of abortions after the first 20 weeks of pregnancy. This nationwide ban is scheduled to get a vote next week. Now the House has the votes to pass it, of course. The Senate will not have those votes. And even if it did, this is still a Republican dream bill because our President, President Obama, would veto it.

(...)

MELBER: And to pick up on Salamishah's point, I want to put up a pretty striking image on the screen here that goes to the idea that, yes, in many ways, choice keeps winning in federal elections, at least with President Obama being re-elected, and yet, when you look at the numbers, here's this chart, you have abortion laws spiking in 2011 and 2012. There it is. You see just a huge increase. Cristina, why is that happening even as the national political discourse is clearly favoring the President's approach?

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR CRISTINA BELTRAN, NEW YORK UNIVERSITY: Right, right. I mean, I think it's a fascinating issue. I think about sort of what you're talking about in terms of the idea of a kind of hysteria and a kind of a magical thinking like that, like that logic is sort of interesting. Like are they so feeling disempowered in some critical ways that this is one way for them to go after something where they feel like they have critical agency in doing this stuff.

MELBER: What do you, you mean the Republicans losing at the political level generally makes them want to act out?

BELTRAN: Yeah, really want to try to enact a vision of the world in which women's bodies, you know, are treated this way. Like I think that's part of it. But I think the other part I was thinking about that I'm continually interested in is that, politically, it's horrible for working class women, women in rural areas. I mean, but what it also does is it produces a collective sense of women having a collective sense of threat, right?

MELBER: Sure.

BELTRAN: Which is really interesting when you think about the deep diversity of women in this country, the fact that these kinds of laws create a sense that women are kind of a bloc is really interesting politically for Democrats. I mean, I think every time they do this, Hillary Clinton should send them a gift basket because it's incredibly good for-

MELBER: Which is a weird cycle of backlash. What do you think, though, of that theory?

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR SALAMISHA TILLET, UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA AFRICANA STUDIES: Well, I think, the Census just released data, so part of it is the changing racial demographics in the United States.

MELBER: And you're talking not only then about a potentially religious view about life, you're talking about social control.
*NO graphic footage*

I always believed a woman has the right to terminate a pregnancy based on a number of reasons ..... mostly on the condition it was conducted early into a pregnancy, or where the health of the mother and/or baby was in jeopardy and required emergency action, or in some cases ethical reasons.

But, having watched this item, it is disturbing to think that some people in the medical profession consider termination of a 24-week pregnancy nothing more than procedural.

I was astounded to hear some of the comments from the medical fraternity, and to learn of some of the procedures and outcomes.

Correction .... I was shocked.

While there is no graphic footage in the video, the images and quotes are compelling enough to be thought provoking, even disturbing.

In the latest black eye for the scandal-ridden State Department, a whistleblower claims she was run out of the foreign service after complaining about a consul general's alleged office trysts with subordinates and hookers.

Kerry Howard says she was bullied, harassed and forced to resign after she exposed US Consul General Donald Moore's alleged security-threatening shenanigans in the Naples, Italy, office.

As the post's community-liaison officer, Howard was charged with keeping workplace peace and advising higher-ups on the state of morale, but when she revealed allegations about her boss, State Department officials swept it under the rug, according to an Equal Employment Opportunity complaint she filed with the department's Office of Civil Rights.

"It's cover-up after cover-up. It's absolutely hideous," she told The Post. "When our diplomats disrespect the Italians by hiring and firing them because they have seen too much - or use them for 'sex-ercise' - we have to question why we have diplomats abroad at taxpayer expense."

Howard is just the latest whistleblower to allege that Hillary Rodham Clinton's State Department allowed sexual misbehavior to continue unchecked.

Last week, The Post reported that Aurelia Fedenisn, an investigator at the department's inspector-general office, wrote a memo outlining eight cases of supposed sexual misconduct, but that they were removed from an IG report.

The allegations included US Ambassador to Belgium Howard Gutman soliciting prostitutes, including minors, and at least seven agents in Clinton's security detail hiring hookers while traveling with her to Russia and Colombia.

The soap opera in Italy unfolded in the fall of 2010, when Moore became the Naples consul general after serving in the same capacity at the US Embassy in Port au Prince, Haiti. As a senior foreign-service officer, Moore could make as much as $179,700 a year, State Department data says.

Within days, he allegedly bedded a consulate employee, a single mom who fell in love with him.

Howard detailed the alleged affair in certified letters to members of Congress, including California Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer, in December, said Howard's lawyer, Lawrence Kelly.

"More and more intimate details of their relationship became common knowledge," Howard wrote, adding that the staffer became pregnant and wanted to keep the baby, but that Moore insisted she get an abortion.

"She informed anyone within earshot that she had had the abortion and had her tubes tied at his instruction," Howard wrote. "Morale continued to sink as this soap opera played out in our workplace on a daily basis."

With the affair rumors swirling, Howard's supervisor, Pamela Caplis, instructed Howard to keep quiet, Howard claims.

"I have already informed Frankfurt," Caplis allegedly said in what Howard claims was an attempt to head off the complaint.

Still, on a February 2011 trip to Rome, Howard told the US Embassy's management officer, Frank Ledahawsky, that morale was "very bad" because of the alleged affair.

"We have to save his career," Ledahawsky allegedly said.

Shortly after the meeting, Moore was allegedly called to Rome and ordered to end his relationship with the employee.

Howard thought her troubles would be over, but she became a target instead.

Howard, who made about $16,000 annually in her part-time position, said that her office was moved five times without notification and that she was excluded from meetings and forbidden from attending a staff photo-op with Sen. John McCain.

Howard says Caplis grilled her for the names of staffers speaking about Moore's relationships and, in one meeting, screamed she was a "backstabber."

Colleagues ganged up on her, and one State Department security officer told her, "You better be careful, because they are out to get you," according to Howard's affidavit in the Office of Civil Rights investigation.

Howard said the situation got even uglier when Moore became her direct supervisor in February 2012 after Caplis was reassigned.

"Try not to be so perfect, and try to be less present in the consulate," Moore warned, according to Howard's affidavit.

Meanwhile, bachelor Moore began a relationship with another subordinate, and "continued a pattern of other relationships which threaten the security of the consulate," the affidavit said.

"The female visitors to the consulate, if they are logged properly, will provide a starting point for a broader inquiry," she hinted.

Howard was clearer, however, in a recent memo to Feinstein.

"It is also now known that the consul general entertains prostitutes, escorts and married women in his residence during the day during work hours," she wrote.

"These women enter and leave the consulate via the front entrance . . . His household staff are required to clean his bathroom and change his linens after each woman leaves."

Only Sen. Rand Paul's (R-Ky.) office replied to Howard's letters.

In an e-mail, Rand aide Brett King wrote: "I received your message this morning regarding actions at the Consulate in Naples, Italy. Do we have your permission to share this information with other government agencies?"

Howard resigned in May 2012.

"I was left with no choice," she said in her affidavit. "I was forced to leave or suffer continued harassment and humiliation."

Two months later, she filed the Equal Employment Opportunity complaint. Kelly said an independent investigator is close to concluding her probe, which included affidavits from seven former Italian consulate employees.

Moore is still assigned to Naples. His office referred questions to the State Department, which declined to comment.

How can it continue to be maintained that Islam is peaceful and "good for women?" Not only does the Koran sanction discrimination and bigotry against women, as well as wife-beating , but Islamic or sharia law includes the right to marry females of any age and to have sex with girls as young as nine years old . Women are considered worth one-half of men, if that, and female sexuality is viewed as so perilous that women in fundamentalist areas and families must wear oppressive clothing. Moreover, around 140 million women and girls worldwide have their genitals hacked off or otherwise mutilated, the bulk of which female genital mutilation is justified in the name of Islam .

Now, Islamic states have rejected legislation by the United Nations Human Rights Council that would outlaw violence against women, including rape within a marital situation. It is claimed that not beating and raping women, therefore, is "un-Islamic," which means that beating and raping women is Islamic. Again, how will defenders of Islam keep up the charade of "peace" and benefit for females?

Below is the Kuwait News Ageny report on this latest disgrace involving the world's most misogynistic ideology. The highlighted paragraphs concern the "right" of men according to Islamic law to beat and rape their wives, as well as the ability of a rapist to escape prosecution by "marrying" his victim, whether or not she is willing. Also rejected were sections of the resolution that "subdued" the prosecution of rape victims for "moral crimes or slander." It need not be pointed out that the prosecution and imprisonment of rape victims is among the lowest forms of barbarism in the world. Yet, here these various Islamic states are acknowledging that such anti-woman savagery is part of Islam.

Will women's organizations finally pick up the ball on this issue, or will they continue to pretend dishonestly that this problem doesn't exist? Until we tackle the religious ideology driving this sexism, misogyny and gynophobia , we will never end the abuse of women and girls worldwide. Let us have no more irrational and immoral defenses and pandering that only allow for this suffering to continue.

Islamic states frown on Islam-opposing paragraphs of UNHCR violence against women resolution

GENEVA, June 14 (KUNA) -- Islamic member states of the United Nations Council for Human Rights (UNHCR) rejected on Friday paragraphs violating the Islamic law in the council's resolution on the elimination of all forms of violence against women , noting that the member states must make sure that their laws and national policies are consistent with the rejected demands.

The rejections include the paragraph, which gives women "the right to control matters concerning their sexual lives as well as their reproductive health without coercion, discrimination or violence." They also rejected the paragraph that allows performing judicial proceedings in cases of rape within marriage , the abolition of provisions that require the matching of certificates and allow the rapist to escape prosecution by marrying him to his victim as well as subduing victims of sexual violence to prosecution for moral crimes or slander .

The Islamic countries also frowned on the paragraph that urges abortion in the context of the provision of health care services to rape victims, rape avoidance and other forms of violence against women and girls.

This resolution calls on the states to demonstrate their commitment to the prevention of sexual violence through the enhancement of women's human rights, protection, equal participation in communities to men, in addition to taking necessary action to make sure that women are active in decision-making, including matters of peace processes, transitional justice, democratic transition and constitutional reform.

It also urges the states to increase measures taken to protect women and girls from all violence forms, including sexual violence by addressing issues related to their safety and security through several means such as awareness, involvement of local communities, enacting laws to prevent crime, as well as the provision of infrastructure, public transportation and health facilities, street lighting and improvement of urban planning. state senators in Wisconsin on Wednesday silenced Democratic lawmakers
while passing a bill requiring women to undergo an ultrasound procedure
before being able to receive an abortion.
Wednesday's Senate session began with state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout
(D) reading letters from several constituents who opposed the bill.
"The idea of - quote - small government is in direct conflict with
big government Republicans sticking their nose my vagina," one voter
named Suzanne wrote. "How can we get the conservatives - mostly men - to
quit blaming women, many times girls, solely for unwanted pregnancies?"

A
second letter pointed out that the bill's provision excluding rape and
incest would not be effective because only 16 percent of rapes were
reported to police.
Vinehout said that she had been touched by the letters because she had also been a victim of sexual assault at the age of 15.

"And if we truly want to make abortion rare, Mr. President, why are we defunding Planned Parenthood?" the Alma Democrat asked.

Republican state Sen. Mary Lazich, who sponsored the legislation,
however, encouraged her fellow lawmakers to ignore "the theatrics
surrounding" Vinehout's presentation and then launched into an
impassioned speech of her own.
"If you have a loved one that's thinking about terminating their
pregnancy, for crying out loud, you want them to have full information,
you want them to have an ultrasound, you want them to know what's going
on in that womb and what they're doing, and that they're not going to be
able to change that for the rest of their life!" she exclaimed. "They
make that decision, it's over! It's over in a few minutes. And then
later on they can live with the fact that they terminated their
pregnancy and it was the best thing for them or they killed their child
and they made a horrific decision and they regret it and they wish they
never would have done it!"
Following Lazich's remarks, Democrats tried to continue debate but Senate President Mike Ellis (R) called for a vote.

"It's non-debatable! Call the roll!" he shouted. "You're out of order!"

"You're out of order!" someone on the Senate floor shouted back.

"You're interrupting a roll call! Sit down! Right now!" Ellis yelled, repeatedly banging his gavel in anger.

"I understand you're afraid of this debate," Minority Leader Chris Larson (D) reportedly said, but his microphone was cut off, according to The Associated Press .

In the end, the bill passed 17 to 15 along party lines. It was
immediately referred to the state Assembly, and Gov. Scott Walker (R)
has said that he will sign it into law.

20-Week Abortion Bill Advanced By All-Male Congressional Panel (jobs, jobs, jobs)

Republicans in the House Judiciary subcommittee voted on Tuesday to
expand Rep. Trent Franks' (R-Ariz.) proposed D.C. abortion bill to apply
to the whole country and advanced the bill favorably to the full
committee. The bill would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy in
the United States in all cases except those in which the mother's life
is in danger.

All four Democrats on the panel voted against advancing the
Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, arguing that it is
unconstitutional and allows no exceptions for rape victims, incest
victims, women whose health is endangered by a pregnancy, and cases of
severe fetal anomalies. The 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe vs. Wade
protects women's ability to have an abortion up until the fetus is
viable outside the womb, which is usually believed to occur around the
24th week of pregnancy.

Reps. John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Ted Deutch (D-Fla.) said they
objected to the fact that all of the lawmakers debating the abortion
bill are men and that none are doctors. "It is totally out of order for
us to determine a medical question like this under the guise of acting
as members of the very vital House Judiciary Committee," Conyers said.
"No good has ever come from an all-male committee deciding the law about
a woman's body. This is not appropriate."

Deutch said that watching "a group of men" make medical decisions on behalf of women is "hard for people to take."

"To insert a role of politics in all this, in what for
has gone from the greatest exulation they may have felt as a married
couple to the depths of despair at learning they have found themselves
in a situation they have to make that painful decision, is just not what
we should be doing," he said.

All six Republicans on the panel voted in favor of the amendment to
expand the bill nationwide. They argued that fetuses can feel pain after
20 weeks of pregnancy, a claim that is medically disputed ,
and suggested that the Supreme Court might eventually come around to
their side on the abortion issue. Franks challenged the notion that his
bill is part of what the Democrats have called a Republican "war on
women."

Late-term abortions "have been happening hundreds of times every
single day for decades in America," he said. "Those who incomprehensibly
call trying to change this a 'war on women' overlook the fact that
roughly half of these babies that are so torturously killed each day are
just little tiny women."

Jon McNaughton: Liberalism is a Disease .

.

http://www.jonmcnaughton.com/

.

I like to paint pictures that express how I feel about what is happening in America.

We

have a disease. It's infecting every aspect of our society and it's

time we did something about it. Some of these people I really like and

some I don't, but for the sake of our health, our children and our

sanity, we need to take drastic action quickly.

What if we could

bring them all together, put them on a deserted island and quarantine

them for say a hundred years? They believe they have all the answers to

everything. But every liberal idea I've ever seen has led to total

failure. If they were right, their new island home would be a utopia

before long. Let's look at the most liberal communities in the country.

New York City, Detroit, Chicago...how are they doing? Yes, I say let's

quarantine them and let nature take its course.

You might have this disease if you believe:

We

should remove guns from law-abiding citizens who have a right to

protect themselves, and leave them in the hands of criminals who will

acquire the firearms illegally anyway they can. How many gun-free zones

do you know that have low murder rates?

The same liberals who

are trying to save us, turn around and demand abortion rights for women

at the expense of over 53 million human lives.

Raise the national

debt to meet the continued demand for welfare and entitlement spending

at the expense of our country's economic future.

Fight a war

against terrorism without identifying who the enemy is because of

political correctness and then allow illegal aliens to cross the border

by the millions.

Provide kid glove treatment to Islamic radicals

and unfriendly regimes and then show religious intolerance to Jews and

Christians.

Allow a minority of Gay Rights Activists to dictate the definition of marriage and force Christians to comply.

Use environmentalism to thwart the energy interests of Americans at a time of great financial stress and national security.

McNaughton Answers to Liberal Questions:

Why are you making fun of these people?

Most

of my paintings are serious in nature, (although liberals find them

amusing) this one is more of a satire. This means to me, that although

it is humorous on the surface, the underlying message is very serious.

Liberals use humor relentlessly as a tool to suppress conservative

ideas. As always, if my paintings can cause someone to think about or

debate the serious issues, it was successful.

Are you selling prints of this?

No,

there are copyright restrictions. There are some things more important

than money. My hope is to help people wake up to effects of liberalism

in America.

Do you think all liberals are bad?

Well, yes,

but I'm talking about their ideologies, which are destructive. I have

many liberal friends. I know many good people that for some unfortunate

reason are infected by the disease.

How did you decide whom to include in the painting?

I

chose well-known liberals in different fields that influence Americans

every day. There are many more who I could have included that I think

are spreading the disease. Perhaps, some liberals will be pleased if

they were included in the painting; like a "badge of honor."

Why is Satan in the painting? Are you saying these people are Satanic??

I

don't know that. Perhaps most of them are just deceived. Satan is

what I call the "Number One Liberal." Liberalism is about control.

Satan wants to promise you everything in exchange for your freedom. He

uses lies; deceit and compulsion to have you do his bidding. In the

end, you are left with nothing. How has any liberal idea ever ended

well? It is instant satisfaction at the expense of your soul. Yes,

liberalism is a disease.

This is a video OF Six-Time All-Pro NFL Player Matt Birk Speaks at the Minneapolis Stand Up for Religious Freedom Rally June 8, 2012. About 2,000 attended this event.

Baltimore Ravens offensive lineman Matt Birk is pro-life - so when it came time for the Ravens to visit President Barack Obama for the annual congratulations to the Super Bowl winners, he decided not to go.

The pro-life NFL player explained his decision:

"I wasn't there," Birk told The Power Trip. "I would say this, I would say that I have great respect for the office of the Presidency but about five or six weeks ago, our president made a comment in a speech and he said, 'God bless Planned Parenthood.'"

Birk, who also took a public stance during the recent gay rights movements that swung through our country last year, is a very open and public Catholic and claims that he took offense to these comments that were made by President Obama. So much so, that he declined a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet and be honored by the President at the White House.

"Planned Parenthood performs about 330,000 abortions a year," Birk explained. "I am Catholic, I am active in the Pro-Life movement, and I just felt like I couldn't deal with that. I couldn't endorse that in any way."
