      <title>What Is Libel? - A brief guide on what to avoid,</title>

      <description>What Is Libel?
by  David Taylor
 What is libel? How can I avoid trouble?

Because nonfiction often deals with real people, the freelance writer needs to understand the restrictions placed by law upon the use of names of people in published texts, in print and on the Internet. How far can you go legally? Can you change the names and be safe? Public figures seem to be fair game, but what about government agencies and their employees?

Such questions touch upon one of the most complex issues that a journalist must face today. It's also an area where you can't afford to make mistakes. For example, it's true that public figures are treated differently; so are public officials. But the differences between the two can be fine.

Luckily there's a good guidebook for us: the &quot;Briefing on Media Law&quot; portion of The Associated Press Stylebook. And if you want to know what it says, you've got to go to the library or pay for it. You can order it online at the AP's web site. Accept no substitutes.

Here is a brief guide to libel and slander as I've come to understand them through cases I've been involved with as an editor (none of which we ever lost):

 Libel, Slander and Defamation
Libel can be personal libel or trade libel, which is also known as &quot;product disparagement.&quot; Product disparagement can include a product, service or entire company.

Libelous statements, whether against persons or products, are published statements that are false and damaging. Slander is the same as libel in most states, but in spoken rather than written form.
The terms &quot;libel&quot; and &quot;slander&quot; are often subsumed under the broader term &quot;defamation.&quot; It is a tort (a wrongful act) to harm another's reputation by defaming them.

How do you know if you might defame someone or something in what you are about to publish? There are three tests which the defamatory statement must meet in order for a plaintiff to prevail in a suit against you and your publisher:

  Untrue. In order to be defamatory, the statement must be untrue. If the statement is true or substantially true, then it is not defamatory, and the case is over.

  Damaging. In order for the plaintiff to prevail, the statement must have caused real and substantial harm to the person or business. The plaintiff must present evidence of the substantial harm done.

  Knowingly false. The plaintiff must also show that the defendant knew the statement was untrue, but published or broadcast the statement despite that knowledge. From this brief explanation, you can deduce that the best way to avoid a libel charge, or to defeat it, is to:
  Write only that which is true and can be shown to be true through your meticulous research and note taking.

  Keep all research for a period of years, depending on the statute of limitations that applies where you are. In sum, you can say or publish just about whatever you wish in our open society--so long as it is true. Public Official vs Public Figure
The same liberal rule applies to both categories: To prevail in a libel case against you, in addition to showing that your statement is untrue and caused significant harm, a public official or a public figure must also prove &quot;malice&quot; -- that you acted in reckless disregard to the facts known to you and with intent to harm.

Obviously, because of this stipulation, you enjoy considerable protection when it comes to public personages, since proving malice (intent to harm) places a heavy burden on the prosecution.
Who are these public people? The status of &quot;public official&quot; is relatively easy to determine from public records. The trick comes in determining who falls into the category of &quot;public figure.&quot;

The courts have determined that there are two types of public figures:
  A &quot;general purpose public figure&quot; is someone who enjoys social prominence. Entertainers are in this category.

  A &quot;limited purpose public figure&quot; -- someone who has intentionally placed themselves into prominence, such as a vocal activist on a given issue. The reasoning is that the press has a First Amendment duty to report on such newsworthy people, and therefore published statements warrant such protection.

Who is a private person? None of the above. Now you see why lawyers get the big bucks.

ATTORNEY DEMANDS THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF THE SOCIAL
 SECURITY ADMINISTRATION CONDUCT AN INVESTIGATION AND PRODUCE PUBLIC
RECORDS REGARDING THE FRAUDULENT USE OF A SS NUMBER BY BARACK OBAMA THAT
 COMES BACK TO A DECEASED MAN

The following correspondence was sent from Dr. Orly Taitz Esq. to Mr.
Patrick O'Carroll Jr, the Inspector zgeneral of the Social Security
Administration requesting the he conduct an investigation into Barack
Obama's use of a dead man's social security number and the apparent
coverup of this fact and refusal by Social Security Administration
employees to release public records concerning a specific social
security number.

Via federal Express

Copy via FAX 410-597-2101

Dear Mr. O'Carroll,

Please find enclosed a copy of the complaint filed with the office of
the Inspector General of the Department of Treasury as well as with the
Judiciary Committee of the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of
representatives.

The summary of the complaint is that Mr. Barack Obama has used in his
2009 tax returns a Connecticut Social Security number 042-68-4425, which
 was never assigned to him, which failed both E-Verify and SSNVS and
which was traced to an immigrant from Russia Harrison J. Bounel, born in
 1890, presumed to be deceased with no surviving relatives.

I filed multiple complaints with the SSA and even traveled to the CT
office and discussed the matter with employees. On March 26, 2013 I
traveled to Stamford Connecticut where the number in question was issued
 and met with employees of the Social Security Administration:
Representative Madeline Mercado, Assistant Manager Mrs. Sheridan (she
refused to give her first name) and General Manager Mrs. Booker (she
refused to give her first name). I demanded an explanation, why SSA is
refusing to release the SS-5 for an extremely aged individual over 120
years old. I was told that this is a protected number and local office
has no access to the information.

I was shown a computer screen that stated that in case of any inquiries
in regards to this number, employees of the SSA are supposed to call a
specific number at the SSA Headquaters. (it was a 410- MD number). So,
there is clearly a gate keeper at this number.

This gatekeeper happens to be one Dawn Wiggins, as all the
correspondence and FOIA requests in regards to the Social Security
number 042-68-4425, which are sent from different parts of the country
by different individuals and investigators seeking information on
Harrison Bounel and Barack Obama, are always being handled by one SSA
employee, Dawn Wiggins, while FOIA requests in regards to other Social
Security numbers are handled by different employees.

I was advised that General Manager Booker and Assistant Manager Sheridan
 contacted the headquarters of the Social Security administration and I
will receive a response from the headquarters. Over 30 days passed and I
 did not receive any information. I demand investigation of this
flagrant Social security fraud and actions by Ms. Wiggins, who clearly
knows that Mr. Obama is using a stolen Social Security number.

Moreover, according to a sworn affidavit of licensed investigator Susan
Daniels attached herein, according to national databases at some point
Mr. Obama also used Social Security number 485-40-5154 issued to Lucille
 Ballantyne, mother of former Chief Actuary of the Social Security
Administration Harry C Ballantyne. I called Mr. Ballantyne and inquired
if he knew that according to National databases Mr. Obama used the
Social Security number of his deceased mother.

Reaction of Mr. Ballantyne was highly suspect. Any individual confronted
 with such information would have shown signs of disbelief, anger,
however Mr. Ballantyne was not surprised, and he laughed and
stated:&quot;They have no rights&quot;.

I asked him:&quot;Who has no rights?&quot;

He stated &quot;Dead people have no rights&quot;. When I tried to ask more
questions, Mr. Ballantyne stated that he cannot talk to me anymore. I
believe that Mr. Ballantyne is the SSA employee, who is responsible for
the change of the information in the databases and needs to be
investigated.

I demand computer tracing of any changes in the computer file of Harry
J. Bounel to ascertain which SSA employees were involved in this most
egregious case of SSA fraud and identity theft. While computer records
can be easily changed, the original wet ink SS-5 application cannot be
changed, which explains why Social Security administration is refusing
to provide SS-5 for Harrison J. Bounel, even though he would be 123
years old, if he would be alive today and according to SSA own &quot;120 year
 rule&quot; this SS-5 application has to be released.

I demand release of SS-5 of the SSN 042-68-4425 for Harrison J. Bounel.

 CONCLUSION: Based on the attached complaint and exhibits I demand an
immediate release of SS-5 of SSN 042-68-4425 of Harrison J. Bounel, as
well as investigation of Barack Obama for his use of a fraudulently
obtained Social Security number which failed both E-Verify and SSNVS and
 immediate investigation of SSA employees Dawn Wiggins, former Chief
Actuary Harry C. Ballantyne and former Commissioner Michael Astrue for
criminal cover up of Social Security fraud and in being complicit in the
 usurpation of the U.S. Presidency and the position of the Commander in
Chief by Barack Obama, aka Barry Soetoro, aka Barack (Barry) Soebarkah,
who is using a fraudulently obtained Social Security number.

Respectfully,

Dr. Orly Taitz, ESQ

      <title>HOW A SUICIDE IN MIAMI GAVE BIRTH TO &amp;quot;HEARTBREAK HOTEL&amp;quot; AND THE RISE OF ROCK N' ROLL</title>

      <description>
10:27 AM  XAVIANT HAZE

Miami is a world famous Mecca of sun, sand, sex and fun outlandish decadence. It's also a very dark town, haunted by real life zombies , third world-esque poverty and a long history of racial segregation and violence . Because of this entropic mix Miami boasts an impressive musical resume, birthing a mix of pirates, tropical wanderers and wayward sons that over the decades have created some of the most groundbreaking, influential and varying musical styles. With a long history of music innovation and violence, it's no wonder that Miami shows up as the spark that helped create Rock n' Roll - in the form of a Suicide note.
Late one night in some neon faded Art Deco beach hotel, an anonymous man killed himself leaving behind only a crumbled note in one of his jean pockets. On the note where the words &quot;I walk a lonely street&quot; his last ode to a cruel world. Little did he know his sacrificial death would soon give birth to a whole new generation of music lovers. His unidentified corpse was shown on the cover of the Miami Herald with the headline asking, &quot;Do You Know This Man?&quot;
When exactly this suicide happened can't be confirmed and a search of the Miami Herald Digital Archives hasn't provided any help. We know that it was sometime in 1955 when Steel-guitar player, singer-songwriter and failed dishwasher repairman Tommy Durden read the Herald suicide article while working a gig in Jacksonville, Florida. Durden believed the suicide note's line had a dark blues quality and scribbled it down as a future song lyric. He showed the article and the lyric to his friend Mae Boren Axton, herself a songwriter, TV personality, radio host and publicist. Mae immediately was drawn to the lyric, deciding that naturally at the end of a lonely street one would find a &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; and with that verse, a light bulb of creativity exploded in the warm Florida air.
Mae wrote the rest of the lyrics while Durden worked out the melodies on his guitar. Within an hour the duo had composed one of the most important songs in the history of music. But Mae was more than just a schoolteacher and part-time songwriter; she was a visionary who saw the 'big picture' before anybody else. That 'big picture' was Elvis Presley and way before the Colonel turned him into a money making machine, Mae Axton was convinced that Elvis was going to be the biggest thing to hit America since the Model-T Ford.
Mae first encountered Elvis during a tour she helped set up in Jacksonville, Florida when the relatively unknown Memphis singer was a last minute replacement booked to open for country recording star Hank Snow. As Elvis began his set, Mae Quietly blended in with the crowd at the Gator Bowl, and watched in awe as twenty-year old Elvis completely blew the audience away with his mix of hillbilly swag, bluesy crooning and pelvic shaking lunacy. After his performance, teenage girls chased Elvis back to the dressing room while managing to completely tear off the young stud's shirt. The forty-year old Mae had never seen anything like that in her entire life. Nobody had. She quickly helped get Elvis booked for a return show on July 28, 1955, which caused excessive lines of teenage girls waiting to get inside and irate local preachers screaming about the dangers of Elvis's shaking hips.
After another smashing performance Mae interviewed Elvis for a local radio station. She was influential in helping get Elvis's first record &quot;That's alright Mamma&quot; radio airplay in Florida and during the interview the 'King' gratefully acknowledges this fact...
&quot;Well, thank you very much, Mae, and I'd like to personally thank you for really promoting my record, because you really have done a wonderful job, and I really do appreciate it because if you don't have people backing you, people pushing you, well you might as well quit.&quot;

After the interview Mae boldly declared to Elvis that she would write his first number one hit. After concluding the &quot;Heartbreak&quot; writing session with Durden, a local Country singer named Glenn Reeves stopped by for a visit and was immediately put to work by Mae. She asked Reeves to record a demo of the song with her tape recorder in the style of Elvis Presley, Reeves wasn't a fan but being a good friend did the song anyways. The fact that Reeves even knew who Elvis was, is a testament to how much buzz the 'King' had created for himself in the South. After finishing the song, Reeves thought &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; was weird and that Elvis &quot;wouldn't go far&quot; and declined any credit or association with the song. Mae had no intention of ever using Reeves anyways; she just wanted something to show Elvis in the hopes that he would record the song. She approached the popular country duo The Wilburn Brothers and offered them a chance to record a better quality version of &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; but the duo declined, calling the song &quot;Strange and almost Morbid&quot;. With no choice but to hunt down the kid on her own, she headed to Nashville where Elvis was being honored as the most promising male country star of 1955 at the annual Country Music Disc Jockey Convention.
By this time the Colonel Tom Parker had weaseled his way to becoming Elvis's manager, and shortly after Thanksgiving of 1955 secured for Elvis a record deal at RCA.
Since Mae had worked with Tom before as a publicist in the early 50's she was on familiar terms with the Memphis slickster. It's even rumored that Mae is the only person in the world that the notorious Colonel Tom Parker has ever apologized to. After talking with Tom about a song she wanted Elvis to record she was told where to find the kid, and headed out in the rain towards the Andrew Jackson Hotel.

Elvis was relaxing in his room and in a jovial mood when Mae showed up with her tape-recorded demo. Upon hearing the rough sounding tape Elvis shouted, &quot;Hot dog, Mae! Play it again!&quot; mesmerized as he played the track about ten times in a row. Elvis said the song reminded him of Roy Brown's &quot; Hard Luck Blues &quot; and agreed to record a version. Mae was delighted and the next day they sat down with the Colonel to hammer out a deal. Though the team of Mae and Durden are responsible for penning the song, Elvis's name appears on the finished record as a third writer. It's common knowledge that the Colonel often insisted his boy get co-writing credits in exchange for cutting a song. Always securing a steady stream of publishing checks for the two of them. However this wasn't the case, Mae was so confident that &quot;Heartbreak&quot; would help establish Elvis as a star she insisted on a shared credit in order to help Elvis buy a house for his mother in Florida. With formalities out of the way Elvis began to rehearse the song and added it his live repertoire, changing one line of the lyric, from &quot;they pray to die&quot; to &quot;they could die&quot; while performing the song for the first time in Swifton, Arkansas on December 9.
The small club was packed with over 200 people and Elvis oozing with confidence after singing with RCA rocked the club to the floor. The club's owner and everyone there could sense that something fresh was happening. The 20-year-old Elvis was already a regional star but he had yet to appear on national television. That night in the Arkansas club, Elvis burned through some tracks he'd recorded for Sun, a few covers, and then introduced his new song in that familiar Southern drawl, &quot;I&quot;ve got this brand new song and it's gonna be my first hit.&quot; His words were prophetic.

A month later Elvis entered the recording studios at RCA, where he was scheduled to record five songs in two days. The studio at 1525 McGavock Street was RCA's first permanent recording facility in Nashville, a town still years away from becoming the recording center of the musical universe. Surprisingly, up to then there were only a handful of studios in town. It wasJanuary 10th, 1956 and Elvis Presley who two days prior just turned 21 was ready to begin recording his debut single for RCA.
Mae was also present during the session; interested in watching Elvis record live and curious to how her song would end up sounding. At Sun Records, Elvis had been backed by Sentry Moore on guitar and Bill Black on bass. Later a drummer was added -- a position eventually filled by D.J. Fontana on a permanent basis. At RCA, the Elvis combo was joined by legendary Nashville guitarist Chet Atkins on rhythm guitar and future Grammy winner Floyd Cramer on piano, along with a gospel trio consisting of Ben and Brock Speer of the Speer Family and Gordon Stoker of the Jordanaires.
They recorded on monaural equipment (single track) and the studio was somewhat of a live room with a curved ceiling that created low frequency problems causing bass notes to be boomy and roll around for a long time. They were always in search of a dead spot for the bass. They also had several large curtains hanging on the walls to help &quot;deaden&quot; the room. They employed the use of movable &quot;wall-like&quot; baffles to isolate instruments to minimize sound bleeding into other mics. During that first session RCA was anxious to recreate the &quot;slapback&quot; echo effect that Sam Phillips had created at Sun. To add them to Elvis's vocals Chet and engineer Bob Farris created a psuedo &quot;echo chamber&quot; by setting up a speaker at one end of a long hallway and a microphone at the other end and recording the echo live. It sounded strange to hear it as they were recording live because at Sun studios Sam used to add the effect afterwards.
This technique failed to add anything special to the first two songs they recorded &quot; I got a Woman &quot; and &quot; Money Honey &quot; but as soon as they tried it out on &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; goose pimples suddenly appeared on everybody's skin. The heavy overdubbing of echo and the drummer's rim shots created a powerful atmosphere of upbeat despair that effortlessly matched Elvis's heart-rending vocal. It was a perfect blend of haunting lyrics and ghostly music set to the penetrating crooning of a man destined for greatness.
During the opening lines to each verse when Elvis sings acapella, his voice is penetrating, dejected, and completely captures the alienation of disaffected youth. The dark track sounded like it belonged more on a Doors album than a lead single for RCA in 1956. The gloomy song was markedly different from anything Elvis had done previously at Sun Records and when his former label boss Sam Phillips heard an acetate from the Nashville session, he pronounced &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; a &quot;morbid mess.&quot; Biographer Donald Clarke writes:

The sound quality of that first session was not good, and 'Heartbreak Hotel' is the worst of them all. Chet Atkins played rhythm guitar and Floyd Cramer was added on piano, together with an entirely unnecessary vocal trio led by Gordon Stoker, lead singer of the Jordanaires. Scotty Moore's guitar sounds exceptionally, irritatingly tinny, Cramer is too prominent and the whole track sounds like it was made underwater in a breadbox. It was a disgraceful recording for 1956 but a good song for Presley.

On hearing the new songs, the RCA executives in New York freaked out and wanted to scrap the sessions. They told producer Steve Sholes to turn around and head straight back to Nashville to re-record the tracks. Sholes later stated, &quot;They all told me it didn't sound like anything, it didn't sound like his other records and I'd better not release it, better go back and record it again&quot; But Elvis was unfazed and begged the grey-haired executives to trust his instincts and release &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; as a single. Promising that if it sank he would be at their mercy for any song they wanted out of him. Elvis had that Southern charm, and he had it in spades. The RCA 'brass' relented and pressed ahead with the release, albeit with sizeable suspicions. Elvis clearly believed in it, certain that the song was the right one to catapult him into the big time.
It was properly mastered and released as a 45 single with the B-side &quot; I was the One &quot; on January 27, 1956 and went nowhere despite Elvis making his network television debut on the Dorsey Brothers Stage Show.
For the first month of its release &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; barely registered on the pop charts and seemed to prove that the RCA executives were right. But that all changed when Elvis finally had the chance to perform the song on the popular Milton Berle Show. This performance from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hancock in San Diego California, rocketed Elvis to superstardom. His good looks, unique voice and swiveling hips sent the blonde-haired, blue-eyed Californian girls into a frenzy of screams, faints and tears. The men had never seen anything like it and the San Diego Police Chief announced that if Elvis ever returned to his city and performed in the way that he did he would be jailed for disorderly conduct.
Like a meteor blast Elvis had hit the mainstream. The fateful string oftelevision exposure (a new medium) undoubtedly helped propel &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; to the number-one spot on Billboard's best-seller list 45 days after its release, where it stayed #1 for eight weeks. The song also reached number one on the country chart and number three on the R&amp;amp;B chart. It became Elvis Presley's first Gold record selling more than a million copies just as Mae Axton had predicted. Considering this is the song that really introduced rock to the mainstream (white public) it's amazing how dark the lyrics really are...
 Well, since my baby left me,
 I found a new place to dwell
 It's down at the end of lonely street
 at Heartbreak Hotel
 You make me so lonely baby,
 I get so lonely,
 I get so lonely I could die
 And although it's always crowded,
 you still can find some room
 Where broken hearted lovers
 do cry away their gloom
 You make me so lonely baby,
 I get so lonely,
 I get so lonely I could die
 Well, the Bell hop's tears keep flowin',
 and the desk clerk's dressed in black
 Well they been so long on lonely street
 They ain't ever gonna look back
 You make me so lonely baby,
 I get so lonely,
 I get so lonely I could die
 Hey now, if your baby leaves you,
 and you got a tale to tell
 Just take a walk down lonely street
 to Heartbreak Hotel

&quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; put Elvis on the map, and helped forever alter the landscape of Popular Culture. He would perform the song during most of his live shows between 1956 and 1977, including a blistering rendition on his 1968 comeback special.

Elvis performed it for the last time on May 29, 1977 at the Civic Center inBaltimore, Maryland. The song and  alternative takes  have been released on almost every Presley compilation album since the 60's. In 1979, following Presley's death, author Robert Matthew-Walker wrote, &quot;Heartbreak Hotel became one of the legendary rock performances. For many people it is Elvis Presley, and it continues to excite and fascinate listeners. Heartbreak Hotel is a classic performance, yet when it is analyzed it appears so simple that one cannot recall a time when one did not know it.&quot;
&quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; is one of the most influential songs of all time. It single handedly ushered in the era of Rock n' Roll and influenced every key rock artist in its wake. In a 1975 interview, John Lennon recalled his friend Don Beatty introducing him to Presley's music. Lennon said that his family rarely had the radio on, unlike other members of The Beatles who grew up under its influence. Beatty showed Lennon a picture of Presley that appeared along with the charts on the New Musical Express magazine, and Lennon later heard &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; on Radio Luxembourg. Lennon said:

When I first heard &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot;, I could hardly make out what was being said. It was just the experience of hearing it and having my hair stand on end. We'd never heard American voices singing like that. They always sung like Sinatra or enunciate very well. Suddenly, there's this hillbilly hiccuping on tape echo and all this bluesy stuff going on. And we didn't know what Elvis was singing about... It took us a long time to work what was going on. To us, it just sounded as a noise that was great.

George Harrison credits &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; with handing him a &quot;rock n roll epiphany&quot; when in 1956, at age 13, he overheard it being played at a neighbor's house while riding his bike. Thus, it was &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; that turned Harrison from a relatively well-mannered schoolboy into a guitar-crazed truant who would audition for John Lennon's Quarrymen the following year.

The Rolling Stones' guitarist Keith Richards stated in his 2010 autobiography,Life, that &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; was one of the first rock and roll influences he had. Apart from Presley's impact on him, Richards was even more impressed by Scotty Moore's guitar playing, as well as the rest of the band. Richards says:

Good records just get better with age. But the one that really turned me on, like an explosion one night, listening to Radio Luxembourg on my little radio when I was supposed to be in bed and asleep, was &quot;Heartbreak Hotel.&quot; That was the stunner. I'd never heard it before, or anything like it. I'd never heard of Elvis before. It was almost as if I'd been waiting for it to happen. When I woke up the next day I was a different guy.

Led Zeppelin's lead singer Robert Plant stated that the song &quot;changed his life&quot;. He recalled hearing it for the first time when he was eight years old:
It was so animal, so sexual, the first musical arousal I ever had. You could see a twitch in everybody my age. All we knew about the guy was that he was cool, handsome and looked wild.

Critic Robert Cantwell wrote in his unpublished memoir Twigs of Folly:
The opening strains of &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot;, which catapulted Presley's regional popularity into national hysteria, opened a fissure in the massive mile-thick wall of post-war regimentation, standardization, bureaucratization, and commercialization in American society and let come rushing through the rift a cataract from the immense waters of sheer, human pain and frustration that have been building up for ten decades behind it.

Paul McCartney says, &quot;It's the way Elvis sings it as if he is singing from the depths of hell. His phrasing, use of echo, it's all so beautiful. Musically, it's perfect.&quot;
With &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; a certifiable smash Elvis Presley was on his way to superstardom. Over the years he begged Mae to write another song for him, but feeling she could never top &quot;Heartbreak&quot; Mae declined, content that her initial hunch about Elvis was right.
Mae continued to write other minor hits through the 60s and 70s while maintaining a career as a schoolteacher and community activist. Proud to have set Elvis on his way but completely nonchalant about writing one of the most groundbreaking songs ever. In a 1982 interview, the song's co-writer Tommy Durden said the song, &quot;has paid the rent for more than 20 years.&quot; Citing its cultural significance the Grammy's inducted the song into their Hall of Fameand when then presidential candidate Bill Clinton (the first black president) made his famous appearance on The Arsenio Hall Show in 1992, he chose &quot;Heartbreak Hotel&quot; to play on his sax. He killed it, got the crowd hyped and secured the gig for the presidency...

And to the deserted soul who took his own life in Miami, never knowing that his suicide note &quot;I walk a lonely street&quot; would forever change the world by helping to shape &amp;amp; create the phenomena of Rock n' Roll - Thank You. Sadly, your loss was our gain. C'est la vie...

      <description>Quote `` I was deeply honored when the Blue Angels selected me for their &quot;Key influencer of youth&quot; program and took me for a ride in St Cloud, MN prior to the air show June 2010. I was treated like royalty. It was a blast! Like a really intense roller coaster ride with a big view. Fighting off the G forces by tightening all my leg &amp;amp; stomach muscles and &quot;hick breathing&quot; worked great, but man was I worn out that afternoon. I got lucky and did not feel the least bit sick or black out at 7.2 G's. All those years of trampoline and freestyle skiing paid off. I am very grateful to the Navy Blue Angels, C.J. my pilot, Travis the crew chief and everyone involved. Thanks, it was a great experience``.

      <description>

Once government is ensnared in every aspect of life, a bureaucracy grows increasingly capricious. By Mark Steyn
Speaking at Ohio State University earlier this month, Barack Obama urged students to pay no attention to those paranoid types who &quot;incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity.&quot; Oddly enough, in recent days the most compelling testimony for this view of government has come from the president himself, who insists with a straight face that he had no idea that the Internal Revenue Service had spent two years targeting his political enemies until he &quot;learned about it from the same news reports that I think most people learned about this.&quot; Like you, all he knows is what he reads in the papers. Which is odd, because his Justice Department is bugging those same papers, so you'd think he'd at least get a bit of a heads-up. But no doubt the fact that he's wiretapping the Associated Press was also entirely unknown to him until he read about it in the Associated Press. There is a &quot;president of the United States&quot; and a &quot;government of the United States,&quot; but, despite a certain superficial similarity in their names, they are entirely unrelated, like Beyonc'e Knowles and Admiral Sir Charles Knowles. One golfs, reads the prompter, parties with Jay-Z, and guests on the Pimp with a Limp show, and the other audits you, bugs your telephone line, and leaks your confidential tax records. But they're two completely separate sinister entities. So it's preposterous to describe Obama as Nixonian: Beyonc'e wouldn't have given Nixon the time of day.If you believe this, there's a shovel-ready infrastructure project in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you. In April last year, the Obama campaign identified by name eight Romney donors as &quot;a group of wealthy individuals with less than reputable records. Quite a few have been on the wrong side of the law, others have made profits at the expense of so many Americans, and still others are donating to help ensure Romney puts beneficial policies in place for them.&quot; That week, Kimberley Strassel began her Wall Street Journal column thus:

Try this thought experiment: You decide to donate money to Mitt Romney. You want change in the Oval Office, so you engage in your democratic right to send a check.

Several days later, President Barack Obama, the most powerful man on the planet, singles you out by name. . . . The message from the man who controls the Justice Department (which can indict you), the SEC (which can fine you), and the IRS (which can audit you), is clear: You made a mistake donating that money.

Miss Strassel wrote that on April 26, 2012. Five weeks later, one of the named individuals, Frank VanderSloot, was informed by the IRS that he and his wife were being audited. In July, he was told by the Department of Labor of an additional audit over the guest workers on his cattle ranch in Idaho. In September, he was notified that one of his other businesses was to be audited. Mr. VanderSloot, who had never previously been audited, attracted three in the four months after being publicly named by el Presidente . More to the point he attracted that triple audit even though Miss Strassel explicitly predicted in America's biggest-selling newspaper that this was exactly what the Obama enforcers were going to do. The &quot;separate, sinister entity&quot; of the government of the United States went ahead anyway. What do they care? If some lippy broad in the papers won't quit her yapping about it, they can always audit her, too - as they did to Miss Strassel's sometime colleague Anne Hendershott, a sociology professor who got rather too interested in Obamacare and wrote about it in the Journal and various small Catholic publications. The IRS summoned Professor Hendershott to account for herself, and forbade her husband from accompanying her, even though they filed jointly. She ceased her political writing.

A year after he was named to the Obama Dishonor Roll, the feds have found nothing on Mr. VanderSloot, but they have caused him to rack up 80 grand in legal bills. This is what IRS defenders (of whom there are more than there ought to be) mean when they assure us that the system worked: Yes, some rich guy had to blow through the best part of six figures fending off the bureaucrats, but it's not like his body was found in a trunk at the airport or anything, if you know what I mean, Kimmy baby.

Mr. VanderSloot is big enough, just about, to see off the most powerful government on the planet. Most of those who've caught the eye of the IRS share nothing in common with him other than his political preferences. They're nobodies - ordinary American citizens guilty of no crime except that of disagreeing with the ruling party. Yet they were asked, under &quot;penalty of perjury,&quot; to disclose the names of books they were reading and provide the names and addresses of relatives who might be planning to run for public office - a kind of pre-enemies list. Is that banana-republic enough for you yet? Not apparently for Juan Williams, fired from NPR for thought crime a couple of years ago, but who was nevertheless energetically defending the IRS exertions on Fox News on Thursday evening.

Left-wing groups had their 501(c)(4) applications approved in weeks, right-wing groups were delayed for months and years and ordered to cough up everything from donor lists to Facebook posts, and those right-wing groups that were approved had their IRS files leaked to left-wing groups like ProPublica. The agency's commissioner, a slippery weasel called Steven Miller, conceded before Congress that this was &quot;horrible customer service&quot; - which it was in the sense that your call is important to him and may be monitored by George Soros for quality control.A civil &quot;civil service&quot; requires small government. Once government is ensnared in every aspect of life a bureaucracy grows increasingly capricious. The U.S. tax code ought to be an abomination to any free society, but the American people have become reconciled to it because of a complex web of so-called exemptions that massively empower the vast shadow state of the permanent bureaucracy. Under a simple tax system, your income is a legitimate tax issue. Under the IRS, everything is a legitimate tax issue: The books you read, the friends you recommend them to. There are no correct answers, only approved answers. Drew Ryun applied for permanent non-profit status for a group called &quot;Media Trackers&quot; in July 2011. Fifteen months later, he'd heard nothing. So he applied again under the eco-friendly name of &quot;Greenhouse Solutions,&quot; and was approved in three weeks.

The president and the IRS commissioner are unable to name any individual who took the decision to target only conservative groups. It just kinda sorta happened, and, once it had, it growed like Topsy. But the lady who headed that office, Sarah Hall Ingram, is now in charge of the IRS office for Obamacare. Many countries around the world have introduced government health systems since 1945, but, as I wrote here last year, &quot;only in America does 'health' 'care' 'reform' begin with the hiring of 16,500 new IRS agents tasked with determining whether your insurance policy merits a fine.&quot; So now not only are your books and Facebook posts legitimate tax issues but so is your hernia, and your prostate, and your erectile dysfunction. Next time round, the IRS will be able to leak your incontinence pads to George Soros.

Big Government is erecting a panopticon state - one that sees everything, and regulates everything. It's great &quot;customer service,&quot; except that you can never get out of the store.

      <description>Second Amendment activist, James Kaleda, was forcefully removed from a hearing on a new gun control bill in NJ during his testimony.

Notice in the video the legislators laugh as they have their security (armed with guns of course) remove Kaleda before he finished his testimony.

Kaleda receives a standing ovation from the gallery during his ejection.
So this is how liberty dies, to a thunderous applause?

No matter your views on gun control, someone should have the right to finish their testimony before Big Brother forcibly removes them from the hearing for daring to present a view separate to theirs.

By the way this was a hearing for a bill that would enact gun confiscation in New Jersey.

It was passed.

      <title>Saudi Arabia, Wahhabism &amp;quot;A Must Read&amp;quot;</title>

      <description>Saudi Arabia, Wahhabism and the Spread of Sunni Theofascism

 Amb. Curtin Winsor, Ph.D.

The United States has largely eliminated the infrastructure and operational leadership of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terrorist network over the past five years. However, its ideological offspring continue to proliferate across the globe.

American efforts to combat this contagion are hamstrung by the fact that its ideological and financial epicenter is Saudi Arabia, where an ostensibly pro-Western royal family governs through a centuries-old alliance with the fanatical Wahhabi Islamic sect. In addition to indoctrinating its own citizens with this extremist creed, the Saudi government has lavishly financed the propagation of Wahhabism throughout the world, sweeping away moderate interpretations of Islam even within the borders of the United States itself.

The Bush administration has done little to halt this ideological onslaught beyond quietly (and unsuccessfully) urging the Saudi royal family to desist. This lack of resolve is rooted in American dependence on Saudi oil production, fears of instability in the kingdom, wishful thinking about democracy promotion as an antidote to religious extremism, and preoccupation with confronting Iran.

 Background

Wahhabism is derived from the teachings of Muhammad ibn abd al-Wahhab, an eighteenth century religious zealot from the Arabian interior. Like most Sunni Islamic fundamentalist movements, the Wahhabis advocated the fusion of state power and religion through the reestablishment of the Caliphate, the form of government adopted by the Prophet Muhammad's successors during the age of Muslim expansion. What sets Wahhabism apart from other Sunni Islamist movements is its historical obsession with purging Sufis, Shiites, and other Muslims who do not conform to its twisted interpretation of Islamic scripture.

In 1744, Ibn Abd al-Wahhab forged an historic alliance with the Al-Saud clan and sanctified its drive to vanquish its rivals. In return, the Al-Saud supported campaigns by Wahhabi zealots to cleanse the land of &quot;unbelievers.&quot; In 1801, Saudi-Wahhabi warriors crossed into present day Iraq and sacked the Shiite holy city of Karbala, killing over 4,000 people. After the Saudis conquered Mecca and Medina in the 1920s, they destroyed such &quot;idolatrous&quot; shrines as the Jannat al-Baqi cemetary, where four of the twelve Shiite imams were buried (on the grounds that grave markers are bida'a, or objectionable innovations).

In return for endorsing the royal family's authority in political, security, and economic spheres after the establishment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 1932, Wahhabi clerics were granted control over state religious and educational institutions and allowed to enforce their rigid interpretation of sharia (Islamic law).

Wahhabism was largely confined to the Arabian peninsula until the 1960s, when the Saudi monarchy gave refuge to radical members of the Muslim Brotherhood fleeing persecution in Nasser's Egypt. A cross-fertilization of sorts occurred between the atavistic but isolated Wahhabi creed of the Saudi religious establishment and the Salafi jihadist teachings of Sayyid Qutb, who denounced secular Arab rulers as unbelievers and legitimate targets of holy war ( jihad ). &quot;It was the synthesis of the twain-Wahhabi social and cultural conservatism, and Qutbist political radicalism- that produced the militant variety of Wahhabist political Islam that eventually (produced) al-Qaeda.&quot;

The terms Islamofascism and theofascism have been frequently misused by Westerners to refer to virtually all forms of radical Islamism, but they are fitting appellations for Wahhabism today. The sect's rejection of individual liberties, disparagement and reduction of women's rights and status, disregard for the intrinsic value of human life, and encouragement of violence against unbelievers, are unparalleled among Islamic fundamentalist movements.

Former CIA Director R. James Woolsey has used the term &quot;Sunni theocratic totalitarianism,&quot; a term that highlights both the movement's &quot;will to power&quot; over the most minute aspects of Muslim daily life and its global ambitions. He also notes that its adherents do not raise the banner of Islam in pursuit of specific national, political, or territorial gains. Al-Qaeda's second in command, Ayman al-Zawahiri has sharply rebuked the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas and Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood for participating in national elections.

During the 1970s, Wahhabi clerics encouraged the spread of this revolutionary and atavistic ideological synthesis into Saudi universities and mosques, because it was seen as a barrier to the threat of cultural Westernization and spread of corruption that accompanied the 1970s oil boom. Consequently, the royal family and their religious establishment looked for a cause with which to deflect the growing zealotry from Wahhabist theofascism, a danger highlighted by the seizure of the Grand Mosque at Mecca by heavily armed Islamic Studies students in 1979. The diversion that the royal family seized upon was the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan.

The Saudis financed a large-scale program of assistance to the Afghan mujahideen , in coordination with the Pakistan's Inter Service Intelligence agency (ISI) and the CIA, while funding radicalized madrassas to disseminate neo-Wahhabi ideology and literature in the sprawling Afghan refugee camps of Pakistan. They also dispatched thousands of volunteer jihadis from Saudi Arabia and other Arab countries to fight alongside the mujahideen.

These so-called &quot;Arab Afghans&quot; dispersed to far-flung areas of the world after the Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan in 1988. They pursued further victories against &quot;unbelievers&quot; in the name of Islam, and they were accompanied by militant Wahhabi preachers. These elements would form the backbone of al-Qaeda. Al-Qaeda was initially headquartered in Sudan, but returned to Afghanistan in 1996, following the seizure of Kabul by the Taliban. This was a new Afghan force, recruited in Wahhabi madrassas and, trained by the Pakistanis. Its goal was the establishment of a model Wahhabi state in Afghanistan.

The Saudi royal family revoked bin Laden's Saudi citizenship (in response to heavy American pressure), but did little to interfere with Wahhabi &quot;charities&quot; in the Kingdom and abroad. These entities raised money for al-Qaeda, while the religious onslaught of Wahhabism continued to receive government sponsorship and funding. Osama bin Laden is widely believed to have reached an agreement with Prince Turki al-Faisal, then-chief of Saudi National Security and Intelligence in the mid 1990s, whereby al-Qaeda would not target the Kingdom, and the Kingdom would not interfere with al-Qaeda's fundraising or seek bin Laden's extradition. In fact, Al-Qaeda abstained completely from attacks on Saudi targets within the Kingdom prior to 9/11.

Terrorist attacks and clashes between Saudi police and Islamist militants have erupted erupting periodically since May 2003, after the Saudi Government began cracking down on underground cells in the Kingdom (under pressure from Washington). However, it appears that most Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist groups still respect this quid pro quo Hundreds of members of the Saudi royal family jet around the world without fear of assassination. The country's vulnerable petroleum industry has only once been targeted by terrorists, and then in a less that serious manner. In return, and notwithstanding its limited cooperation with Washington in restricting terrorist financing, the Saudi monarchy has maintained its commitment to propagating Wahhabism at home and abroad, providing the terrorist underground with a growing flood of eager recruits.

 Wahhabi Indoctrination

&quot;Man . . . requires proper instruction and a fortunate nature, and then of all animals he becomes the most divine and most civilized; but if he be insufficiently or ill educated, he is the most savage of earthly creatures.&quot;

 Plato It is estimated that well over one-third of Saudi Arabia's public school curriculum is devoted to Wahhabi teachings. Passages from Saudi textbooks quoted in the American media after 9/11 generated much controversy. One textbook, for example, informed ninth grade students that Judgment Day will not come &quot;until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them,&quot; while another stated that it is &quot;compulsory&quot; for Muslims &quot;to consider the infidels their enemy.&quot;    Embarrassed by the revelations, the Saudi government purported to launch a comprehensive review of its educational curricula and pledged that all such references would be removed. Last year, however, Freedom House published an exhaustive report on the new curriculum, concluding that it &quot;continues to propagate an ideology of hate toward the 'unbeliever,' which include Christians, Jews, Shiites, Sufis, Sunni Muslims who do not follow Wahhabi doctrine, Hindus, atheists and others.&quot;

Some analysts dismiss the relevance of this indoctrination on the grounds that &quot;conforming to an ultra-conservative, anti-pluralistic faith does not necessarily make you a violent individual,&quot; but this reasoning is fallacious. If only one percent of the 5 million Saudi students exposed to these teachings resort to violence, this would produce 50,000 jihadis. Not surprisingly, bin Laden himself denounced foreign interference in Saudi school curricula in an April 2006 audiotape.

Moreover, these teachings are reinforced by Wahhabi clerics in Saudi Arabia, who advocate jihad against enemies of &quot;true&quot; Islam - outside the kingdom.&quot; Incitement to violence against Shiites is particularly common. In December 2006, a high-ranking cleric close to the Saudi royal family, Abdul Rahman al-Barak, denounced Shiites as an &quot;evil sect . . . more dangerous than Jews and Christians.&quot;

In November of 2004, twenty-six clerics, most of whom held positions as lecturers of Islamic studies at various Saudi state-funded universities, issued a call for jihad against American forces in Iraq. Two Saudi officials denounced the fatwa in interviews with the Western media, but no retraction was made in Arabic to local media outlets. Months later, a Saudi dissident group released a videotape showing the Chief Justice of Saudi Arabia's Supreme Judicial Council, Saleh bin Muhammad al-Luhaidan, advising young Saudis at a government mosque on how to infiltrate Iraq and fight US troops, as well as assuring them that Saudi security forces would not punish them after their return. While Luhaidan publicly retracted his statements, videotapes of prominent Saudi clerics exhorting the public to wage jihad in Iraq and elsewhere continue to surface.

 Exporting Hatred

While Saudi citizens remain the vanguard of Islamic theofascism around the world, the growth potential for this ideology lies outside the Kingdom. The Saudis have spent at least $87 billion propagating Wahhabism abroad during the past two decades, and the scale of financing is believed to have increased in the past two years as oil prices have skyrocketed. The bulk of this funding goes to the construction and operating expenses of mosques, madrassas, and other religious institutions that preach Wahhabism. It also supports the training of imams; domination of mass media and publishing outlets; distribution of Wahhabi textbooks and other literature; and endowments to universities (in exchange for influence over the appointment of Islamic scholars). By comparison, the Communist Party of the USSR and its Comintern spent just over $7 billion propagating its ideology worldwide between 1921 and 1991.

Wahhabism has made less headway in the former Soviet Republics of Central Asia, despite the fact that decades of Communist rule had weakened their traditional Islamic institutions. Several successor governments, especially the Uzbekis, have cracked down harshly on militant Islamist groups, while encouraging educational systems in the Hanafi tradition that promote tolerant and peaceful Islam. Africa is also a critical area of Wahhabi expansion, as it offers a multitude of &quot;failed states&quot; and communal cleavages ripe for exploitation, most notably in the Sudan and Nigeria.

In all of these areas, the central dynamic is the same - it is the overwhelming wealth of Saudi Arabia that enables the Wahhabi sect to proselytize on a global scale, not the intrinsic appeal of its teachings. Throughout the world, moderates echo the assessment of Somali journalist Bashir Gothar, who writes that his country's tolerant Sufi-infused Islamic culture has been: &quot;swept aside by a new brand of Islam that is being pushed down the throat of our people - Wahhabism. Anywhere one looks, one finds that alien, perverted version of Islam.&quot;

 Wahhabism in the West

Wahhabi proselytizing is not limited to the Islamic world. The Saudis have financed the growth of thousands of Wahhabi mosques, madrassas, and other religious institutions in Western countries that have fast-growing Muslim minorities during the past three decades. Wahhabi penetration is deepest in the social welfare states of Western Europe, where chronically high unemployment has created large pools of able-bodied young Muslim men who have &quot;become permanent wards of the state at the cost of their basic human dignity.&quot; This is a perfect storm of alienation and idleness, ripe for terrorist recruitment. The perpetrators of the 2005 London subway attacks were native-born Britons of Pakistani descent, recruited locally and trained in the use of explosives during visits to Pakistan. The Dutch Moroccan who murdered Dutch filmmaker Theodor Van Gogh in 2004 (for producing a film critical of Islam) was also a product of Wahhabi indoctrination.

The Wahhabis have had less traction in the United States, which lacks the masses of unassimilated young people that exist in Europe. US welfare laws no longer allow able-bodied young men to have indefinite periods of government subsidized unemployment and immigrants (both Muslim and non-Muslim) tend to find a more stable niche in American society.

Nevertheless, Wahhabi penetration of US mainstream Islamic institutions is substantial. A 2005 Freedom House Report examined over 200 books and other publications distributed in 15 prominent Saudi-funded American mosques. One such publication, bearing the imprint of the Saudi embassy and distributed by the King Fahd Mosque in Los Angeles, contained the following injunctions for Muslims living in America:

Be dissociated from the infidels, hate them for their religion, leave them, never rely on them for support, do not admire them, and always oppose them in every way according to Islamic law.

 hoever helps unbelievers against Muslims, regardless of what type of support he lends to them, he is an unbeliever himself.

Never greet the Christian or Jew first. Never congratulate the infidel on his holiday. Never befriend an infidel unless it is to convert him. Never imitate the infidel. Never work for an infidel. Do not wear a graduation gown because this imitates the infidel.

Although Saudi-funded religious institutions have been careful not to incite or explicitly endorse violence since 9/11, they unapologetically promote distrust toward non-Muslims and self-segregation. In effect, they are trying to reproduce in America the kind of social conditions that have fueled radicalization and terrorist recruitment in Europe.

While the Saudi ambassador in Washington said last year that his government was undertaking a &quot;very intense review&quot; of all missionary activities in the United States, it is clear that the Saudis are concerned primarily with avoiding bad publicity, not abandoning their drive to dominate Islamic institutions in America.

 Causes of American Inaction

The Bush administration has been reluctant to put serious pressure on the Saudis to stop propagating Wahhabism, despite the enormous threat to American security posed by Sunni theofascism. There are several reasons for this.

The first is American dependence on the kingdom's abundant oil reserves, which enable to the Saudis to maintain roughly 3 million b/d in spare production capacity. This spare capacity has been called the &quot;energy equivalent of nuclear weapons,&quot; because it puts the Saudis in a unique position to compensate for disruptions in supplies from other producers and discourage price gouging - a service provided to the United States (and other industrialized nations) in exchange for protection. However, the argument that a firm public stance against Saudi propagation of religious hatred might lead the kingdom to retaliate economically is spurious. Saudi Arabia's use of the oil weapon would alienate the entire industrialized world, while threatening the relative economic prosperity that preserves stability in the kingdom.

Some politicians and writers have voiced concern that pushing the Saudi royal family to curtail the Wahhabis could lead to terrorist attacks on the country's vulnerable petroleum infrastructure or lead to the collapse of the monarchy, which would produce an even worse outcome - a Saudi state controlled exclusively by religious fanatics. While these are serious risks, it must be borne in mind that most Wahhabi radicals view the monarchy (and its oil fields) as a golden goose. It is only by disguising Saudi Arabia as a 'friendly nation' that they have been able to go as far as they have in spreading their atavistic perversion of Islam.

Such concerns reveal a tendency to imagine or spin the Saudi royal family as fundamentally pro-Western. Prince Bandar bin Sultan, who served as ambassador to the United States from 1983 to 2005, has played an important role in masking Saudi - Wahhabi realities. His personal charm, Washington Post journalist David Ignatius writes, &quot;many American leaders and even presidents to forget that he represented a secretive, repressive Muslim kingdom that survived because it had made a pact with 'puritanical' Wahhabi clerics who despised America.&quot;

Bandar was also instrumental in the growth of what Daniel Pipes has called a &quot;culture of corruption&quot; that renders the executive branch of the American government &quot;incapable of dealing with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the farsighted and disinterested manner that US foreign policy requires.&quot; Pipes points to a &quot;revolving door syndrome&quot; afflicting senior diplomats and policymakers who deal with the Saudis in their official capacities.    Very often, they have enjoyed lucrative post-government careers working as consultants for Saudi businessmen and companies, or running Saudi-financed nongovernmental organizations. &quot;If the reputation then builds that the Saudis take care of friends when they leave office,&quot; Bandar once reportedly told a close associate: &quot;you'd be surprised how much better friends you have who are just coming into office.&quot;

Unable or unwilling to combat the spread of Sunni theofascism at its main source (Saudi Arabia), the Bush administration launched a democracy promotion campaign intended to eradicate political conditions receptive to its global spread. However, rather than building stable and less oppressive systems resistant to religious extremism in Afghanistan and Iraq, the accumulating shortfalls of American intervention in both countries have made them magnets for jihadist recruitment.

 The Question of Iran

The Bush Administration's reluctance to challenge the Saudis after 9/11 initially encountered impassioned objections from conservative and liberal commentators alike, but the outrage has tapered off as attention has became increasingly focused on Shiite Iran and its nuclear program which is hipped by Israel. In the view of the administration, the Iranian threat to American national security not only supercedes the threat of Sunni theofascism, but supercedes it to such a degree that a more accommodating policy toward Saudi Arabia is warranted. However, while the prospect of militant Shiite clerics in possession of nuclear weapons is understandably disconcerting to many Americans, the Iranian threat is mitigated by several important factors.

For all of the shrill and unsettling words of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, his government's foreign policy is driven more by Iranian nationalism than Shiite Islamism (this is evident, for example, in Tehran's support for the predominantly Christian nation of Armenia in its dispute with Shiite Azerbaijan). This is not surprising, as Iran (known as Persia prior to the twentieth century) has existed in one form or another since biblical times, while it embraced Shiite Islam just 500 years ago. While Ahmadinejad exploits Iranian nationalism to win public support in his confrontation with the West, it can easily turn against him if he were to embark on a global adventure. Wahhabi clerics may support the Saudi royal family as a necessary evil in order to protect their global proselytizing mission, but they recognize no Saudi Arabian &quot;nation&quot; whose interests take precedence over their agenda. Such is not the case in Iran.

Furthermore, Shiite Islamism does not exhibit theofascist tendencies. Radical clerics in Iran have been responsible for horrendous abuses of power, but they do not regard non-Shiite Muslims as &quot;unbelievers&quot; who must be systematically purged. Basically in Islam Christians and Jews are considered as belivers and in Quran are referred to as &quot;the people of book&quot;. Even within the Shiite world, there is no prospect of a Wahhabi-style Iranian takeover of religious discourse because unlike the Sunnis, Shiite Islam is rigidly hierarchical. Iraqi and Lebanese Shiites gladly accept Iranian financial and military support, but they are fiercely loyal to their own clerical establishments.

An even greater fallacy is the widespread belief in Washington that a strong relationship with Saudi Arabia is an asset in confronting Iran. On the contrary, coddling the Saudis makes it more difficult for the United States to deal with Iran. The Bush administration's refusal to hold Saudi leaders accountable for their incitement of Wahhabi jihadists (who have murdered far more Shiites than Americans, mostly in Iraq and Pakistan) is a source of deep resentment in the Shiite world. It is no surprise that the only two major public demonstrations against Al-Qaeda in the Islamic world after the 9/11 attacks were both organized by Shiites (in Tehran and Karachi, Pakistan).

It is interesting to note that the recent escalation of US - Iranian tensions has made the Saudis less accommodating about Iraq than ever before. Reports that the Saudi Government is threatening to openly fund and arm Sunni insurgent groups if American forces withdraw from Iraq are a case in point. In effect, the Saudis are signaling to the Bush administration that they will thwart any American plan to cede control of Iraq to its Shiite-dominated, democratically-elected government, while signaling to the Sunni insurgents in Iraq that they can reject American efforts to broker a political settlement and not be left to face the consequences alone.

 Iran has no history of direct aggression against its neighbors, and unlike Saddam's Sunni-dominated Iraq, they have never used weapons of mass destruction during invasions of neighbors or against their own people. The strongest argument for this approach lies with the extent that Iran craves recognition of its actual status as the historically authentic nation state in the Middle East. Iran has long aspired to be and probably will be the region's predominant Islamic regional power. On the other hand Iranians are the most pro American and pro west people in the middle-east, although the recent Israeli pushed American forced sanctions are damaging this view.

 The Road Ahead

Washington will eventually have to face the reality that derailing Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons (and, more broadly, its emergence as the predominant Islamic regional power) may be impossible over the long-term, and possible in the short term only at the expense of fatally undermining efforts to contain the spread of Sunni theofascism. The United States would do better to find a mutually acceptable means of working with this reality, rather sustaining a deadlocked confrontation by conditioning its willingness to normalize relations with Tehran on the abandonment of its nuclear aspirations. US - Iranian engagement will greatly enhance American leverage over the Saudis, as well as check the threat of Sunni theofascist terrorism in Iraq and, to a lesser extent, Afghanistan. Saudi officials have urged the Bush administration not to talk with Iran because they know that a reduction in US - Iranian tensions will draw more attention to their unbridled export of Wahhabism.

Reducing American dependence on Saudi oil must also be part of any comprehensive strategy for addressing the threat of Sunni theofascism. Although President Bush has expressed commitment to developing alternative energy sources, the surplus production capacity of the Saudis enables them to lower prices as necessary to ensure that this will not be cost effective for a long time. Barring radical breakthroughs in fuel technologies, an optimistic forecast would have bio fuels (ethanol, synthetic diesel and bio oil) making up to 30% of US petroleum equivalent needs by 2030. For the short to medium term future, only conservation can significantly alter American petroleum dependency.

Without the billions of dollars in Saudi funds, the ideological, political, and psychological edifice of Wahhabi theofascism will begin to crumble, particularly if a concerted effort is made by the Bush administration to promote moderate Islamic institutions (a recent study by the RAND Corporation offers some insightful recommendations). Ultimately, the devil is not in the details - it is the administration's broad lack of resolve in confronting the threat of theofascism, not the lack of viable methods of combating it, that imperils American security.

      <description>Malcolm Shabazz Reveals FBI Harassment

 UPDATE: Malcolm-Latif Shabazz was killed in a robbery in Mexico today, May 9, 2013, exactly two months after publishing this account about alleged FBI harassment. http://freespeakblog.blogspot.com/2013/05/malcolm-shabazz-killed-in-mexico.html

FROM OUR BROTHER MALCOLM-LATIF SHABAZZ:

MY STATEMENT CONCERNING THE HARASSMENT FROM THE POLICE/FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION WHICH RESULTED IN MY UNJUST ARREST AND DETAINMENT IN FEBRUARY 2013, AND PLACED A HALT ON MY TRAVEL TO TEHRAN, IRAN TO PARTICIPATE IN THE INTERNATIONAL FAJR FILM FESTIVAL.

I sincerely appreciate the care and concern of the People over my well-being after Press TV's report of the most recent events which have transpired regarding the F.B.I.'s harassment of me.

Given the storm of lies, and half-truths that come with being associated with being the descendant of El Hajj Malik el Shabazz, also known as Minister Malcolm X, any and everything that I do; great or small, good or not so good, real or imagined is subject to controversy. However, in this missive I will take this opportunity to properly &amp;amp; fully disclose what transpired.

In the beginning of 2012 I had been informed that I was under investigation by the F.B.I.'s Counter Terrorism Task Force Unit located in Goshen, N.Y.

The agents of this division-and in collaboration with others-have visited several residences of which I was known by them to frequent. However, they would never come when they knew me to actually be there. They would leave their cards with the residents asking them to tell me to call them, and then would tell surrounding residents to observe the house and to notify them if they saw me.

These are the homes of long-time friends, and very close supporters. Yet, when federal agents begin knocking on someone's door on multiple occasions to snoop, and ask questions, whether one is guilty of an offense or not, it's enough to coerce people into distancing themselves from you. This cheap tactic employed by the F.B.I. is a means of agitation &amp;amp; harassment. They seek to neutralize my networking abilities.

They have visited locations in California, Chicago, Miami and most aggressively in New York.

People were advising me that if I had nothing to hide, then I should just contact them as requested and cooperate. Though I must say that in these kind of matters I am of a particular ethic. For one, I have been engaged in no criminal activity of their concern, and they could have located me if they so chose. Secondly, I don't recognize the authority in them beckoning me.

It wasn't even until my mother informed me that they had been contacting her that I truly became agitated. She advised me to see what they had to say, and so I obliged the next time they came around looking for me. My encounter was with 2 federal agents of Goshen, N.Y.'s Counter Terrorism Task Foci Unit. The primary agent identified himself as Special Agent Tom Brozicky.

They expressed concern over-as they put it-my &quot;international travels&quot;; I have lived and studied in Damascus, Syria for over a year, and now the U.S. is instigating conflict within the very same region; I went on ex-congresswoman/former presidential candidate Cynthia Mckinney's delegation along with Dr. Randy Short to Libya, and met with Leader Muammar Gadhafi one week prior to N.A.T.O. intervention. And I was most recently getting ready to travel to Tehran, Iran to be a participant of the International Fajr Film Festival and give a lecture addressing the issues of Hollywood and violence:

- Modern Violence and Terrorism,

- Provoking clashes between religions and populations

I was picked up by authorities after I filed for a visa to Iran, and two days prior to my departure, a detective squad from the City of Middletown Police Department surrounded me in the street about two blocks from where I was residing. They asked me my name, and I gave them an alias, but they were already well aware of who I actually was. I didn't tell them my real name because I didn't know what was going on. When I was brought before a Judge of City of Middletown court I was surprised to be informed that I was being charged with Grand Larceny, and False Impersonation charge. Then I was sent to jail, and told to appear again seven days later. Then following court date the bogus charge of Grand Larceny, which they only put to justify stopping me in first place, was dropped. And they left me to face the False Impersonation. I was offered 90 days for the offense of giving the authorities the wrong name which I declined before bailing out after 2 weeks.

When I was being held within the belly of the beast on trumped up charges, to my rescue came the journalist at Press TV, based in Iran. My relationship with the powerful and progressive news outfit began in April of 2012, and prior to that I had discussions with their journalist regarding current events internationally. I developed a positive rapport with some of them and as a result, I was invited to travel to Iran to discuss the impact of Hollywood in stereotyping Muslims, Iranians and African people. From January 15th through 18th, 2013, I was a featured interviewee for the Press TV documentary &quot;The Facade of the American Dream.&quot;

Prior to my date of departure to Iran, Lifetime television released a television bio-picture called &quot;Betty &amp;amp; Coretta&quot; which was a sensationalistic misrepresentation of my grandparents, my mother and me. This film, aside from being poorly acted and shallow in depth, also threatened to inflame old controversies and open unhealed wounds and to remind the public of sad outcomes without ever identifying B.O.S.S.I., the C.I.A., F.B.I. and other forces that set the climate for my grandfather's assassination and made my family a long-suffering casualty of COINTELPRO and other anti-Black repression programs. Naturally, anything done to stir up old hatred of The Shabazz Family will impact me as the namesake, and first male heir of Malcolm X, and whether I am high or low in fortunes does not exempt me from this reality.

The formula for a public assassination is: the character assassination before the physical assassination; so one has to be made killable before the eyes of the public in order for their eventual murder to then deemed justifiable. And when the time arrives for these hits to be carried out you're not going to see a C.I.A. agent with a suit &amp;amp; tie, and a badge that says &quot;C.I.A.&quot; walk up to someone, and pull the trigger. What they will do is to out-source to local police departments in the region of their target, and to employ those that look like the target of interest to infiltrate the workings in order to set up the environment for the eventual assassination (character, physical/incarceration, exile) to take place.

For several months prior to my arrest in late January, 2013 I faced a pattern of harassment from law enforcement which is usually reserved for important figures.

On Thursday, November 1, 2012 @ 11:53pm in the park circle area of Middletown, N.Y. I was stopped by officers of the Middletown Police Department, and given a ticket for &quot;J-Walking&quot; (crossing in the middle of the street), which then escalated into a &quot;Disorderly Conduct&quot; supposedly because of the exchange of words that I had with the officers. I told them that they couldn't possibly be serious for writing me a &quot;J-Walking ticket&quot;, that I didn't appreciate how they were treating me and that they shouldn't be looking at me as less of a man because they were in police uniform. For this

I was arrested, the officers stole the little amount of money that I had on me, they then stripped me and threw me in a freezing precinct cell for the remainder of that early morning. I was finally taken before the &quot;Judge Steven Brockett&quot; around 1:30pm. He gave me an unreasonable bail, and then ordered that I be remanded to the Orange county Jail.

This penalty may seem a bit extreme or harsh to most of you, but here is where it gets worse: On Tuesday, October 30th, exactly 2 nights prior to this incident, the same officer &quot;J Berman&quot; who wrote me the ticket for &quot;J-Walking&quot; &amp;amp; &quot;Disorderly Conduct&quot; stopped me coming from out of a store in the same area, and questioned me as to what I was doing.

I told him that I was coming out of the store. He asked to see what I bought which was a pack of sun flower seeds. I had actually just so happened to be eating a few while he was talking to me, and I spit one of the shells on the ground. At this point officer &quot;J Berman&quot; threatened to write me a ticket for littering. Needless to say, I was dumbfounded, but I went home that night.

Yet, it still doesn't even begin there. I had an encounter with other officers of the Midletown Police Department one week prior to officer &quot;J Berman's&quot; threats to write me a ticket for spitting a sun flower seed on the ground: I was coming out of a restaurant with my mother, and her friend. As the 3 of us entered the car to leave two police cars converged on our vehicle, and boxed us in. My mother was petrified. With guns drawn I was then ordered to step out of the back seat. I asked them why to which they replied that I had several warrants for my arrest. I told them that they were mistaken, but I still complied with their request. Humiliated in front of all on-lookers, I was then thrown on the car while the officers ripped through my pockets. After they were done they said that it was my lucky day because I actually didn't have any warrants at all, and so I was free to go! One of these officer's name was &quot;R. Ribeiro&quot;...

You may wonder if it could possibly get any worse than this. Well, it does! Approximately three weeks prior to the public humiliation of my mother, and me by &quot;R Ribeiro&quot; and another officer of the Middletown Police Department I found myself subject to the discrimination &amp;amp; prejudice of Mayor Joseph M. Destefano of Middletown, N.Y. himself. A friend, and I went out to eat at a restaurant in Middletown, N.Y. which is owned by the Mayor, and to our surprise he appeared from nowhere and asked us to leave. When we inquired as to why he stated that officials of the Middletown Police Department told him not to let us patronize his establishment. Mind you that this goes without incident.

As I stand for the people, God-Willing, I would pray that the same people wouldn't hesitate to stand for me. If these unjust &amp;amp; heinous actions are tolerated &amp;amp; allowed to be done to me without recourse, then no one is safe. Just as Huewy P Newton of the Black Panther Party stated that police are in the white community to protect &amp;amp; serve, yet occupy ours like a foreign troop ... I tell you that we shouldn't fall victim to the conditioning of feeling inferior or fearful at the presence of law enforcement for no apparent reason.

With that being said, I was not arrested by federal agents. I was taken in by a squad from the City of Middletown, N.Y.'s Police Department. I was not being held in an &quot;undisclosed location&quot; so to speak. I was actually being held in the Orange County Jail in Goshen, N.Y. However, from the time that I was booked at the precinct, to standing before a Judge the next day who told me to come back in seven more, to being processed at the Orange County Jail and up until seven days later I was not permitted to make any calls to notify anyone of my status; as though I had just been kidnapped from of the street.

Unfortunately, until this day my family hasn't been fully abreast of my situation as I haven't had the opportunity to properly consult with any of them. Dr. Randy Short, who notified Press TV of my situation, is a close comrade of mine who was on our delegation in Libya. Media reports from Press TV about my situation were not intended to create controversy. In reality, I have a few associates that are affiliated with this reputable International media outlet, and they had expected to meet with me in Iran. So when I disappeared and rumors spread, the inability to get concise information from a credible source prompted them to rouse public attention on my behalf, for which I am grateful.

In April of 2012,I had the opportunity to be a guest analyst/contributor on Press TV. This network has a large following all over the world, and millions find it's news, documentaries and programming to be both an educational, and insightful alternative to the conglomerated, and highly biased mainstream American &amp;amp; British news media. Regarding the Source magazine, nothing that they published was vetted by me, and was made by persons, at best, vaguely familiar with my situation. Further, I have never had an affiliation or relationship with The Source, nor have they ever directly consulted with me about anything.</description>

Police hire state registered confidential informants to beat up, kill,
and set up police targets. It is for retaliation, revenue collection,
property confiscation, and to protect the racketeering turf,
prostitution rings, heroin and crack cocaine trafficking, house break-in
 rings, vandalism for charging property owners fines for having broken
windows and damaged siding, and for making police, lawyers, government
insiders, organized crime, international bankers, and corporate
criminals more money. So what does that have to do with Libya, Hillary
Clinton, and the murder of US Libyan Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens ]?

Were rocket propelled grenade launchers and shoulder fire missiles
gotten into the hands of alleged Barack Obama and international banker
run Al Qaeda? Is there to be attacks on US Aircraft in the US to put the
 US under Martial Law where DHS and military contractors can run check
points to further rip off and abuse all Americans? Why is the US
Department of Homeland Security buying billions of rounds of ammunition
and driving wheeled tanks on US roads?

Was Chris Stevens murdered to cover up a CIA and international banker
plot? Should Hillary Clinton be prosecuted. Should Obama and US Attorney
 Barack Obama be prosecuted for their roles in the taxpayers scammed out
 tax dollars for the ATF' &quot;Fast and Furious&quot; program/Psy-Op to end the
2nd Amendment? Should Obama and Eric Holder be prosecuted for being
accessories to murders having facilitated guns getting into the hands of
 Mexican Drug gangs to commit murders?

Were Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton, Arkansas State Police brass, and
other Clinton cronies cocaine traffickers for the CIA and international
bankers. Did Hillary Clinton order the murder of citizens who knew too
much?  Meet the Clintons ]

Should Hillary Clinton be prosecuted for her role in the lying, cover
up, and the murder of Christopher Stevens? Should Hillary and Bill be
prosecuted for their roles as druglords and kingpins and for their past
murder spree?

 A post to go with the below video ]

Vermont US Senator Patrick Leahy shut up after the Connecticut version
of the CIA allegedly sent him Antrax in a letter. Was Leahy terrorized
into being a puppet for international bankers and US police organized
crime? What do former US Attorney, former Connecticut State Police
Commissioner and now Judge John A. Danaher III and former UConn student
Tomas Foral have to do with the Anthrax Hoax back in 2001? That story ]

Top U.S. Diplomat in Libya Knew Benghazi Was Terrorism
Daily Beast

For
 eleven days after the 9/11 anniversary assault on the U.S. diplomatic
facility in Benghazi, top Obama administration officials told the public
 that the assault stemmed from a protest of an anti-Muslim YouTube
video. That was the public line from the White House in the closing
weeks of a presidential election season, but it was not the view of
several State Department officials at the time or the U.S. personnel on
the ground in Libya.

At a hearing of the House Oversight and
Government Reform Committee on Benghazi Wednesday, Trey Goudy, a
Republican from South Carolina, read into the record an email from Beth
Jones, the acting assistant secretary of state for Near East Affairs.
The September 12 email-disclosed for the first time on Wednesday-said
Jones had spoken to Libya's ambassador to Washington who said the attack
 was the work of former Gadhafi regime loyalists. Jones said she told
the ambassador: &quot;The group that conducted the attacks, Ansar al-Sharia,
is affiliated with Islamic terrorists.&quot;

Jones was not the only
one who viewed the attack as the work of terrorists. Gregory Hicks, the
deputy chief of mission at the U.S. embassy in Tripoli at the time, said
 there were no reports from U.S. personnel in Libya there was a
demonstration. In often-dramatic testimony, Hicks provided new details
of the attack in the evening of Benghazi. He said he had no doubt the
assault on the U.S. compound in Benghazi at the time was a terrorist
attack, noting that Ansar al-Sharia had claimed credit for the assault
on its twitter feed. Indeed, the U.S. embassy in Tripoli believed it
would be attacked next. Hicks said embassy personnel smashed hard
drives, loaded weapons into armored vehicles and that the 55 embassy
employees in Tripoli that evening were gathered in a safe annex all in
anticipation of the attack. http://www.infowars.com/latest-on-ben...

      <title>&amp;amp;quot;That Hezbollah ever killed American soldiers and civilians is only spouted by Zionists.&amp;amp;quot;</title>

      <description>Read a comment response to me earlier today: That Hezbollah ever killed American soldiers and civilians is only spouted by Zionists.

Hezbollah is a resistance movement dedicated to defending Lebanon and to supporting the right of return of Palestinians - who incidentally are mostly Sunni and Christian, not Shia like Hezbollah.

 Delusions of grandeur from a terrorist supporter . historically inaccurate to the point of disbelief. I dont care about your fantasies, or of the pending equalisations of &amp;quot;America did this&amp;quot; or &amp;quot;America did that.&amp;quot;

Hezbollah have committed attrocities, they are terrorists and at best oppression-fighters (because freedom-fighter would assume they fight for freedom, rather than as clearly stated a religious theocracy).

Hezbollah has hijacked planes, they have kidnapped israelis and americans, they have been responsible for a number of suicide attacks.

But the comment clearly states that they never hurt a hair of an American. How is this possible when if hezbollah was responsible for the two explosions in Beirut on October 23, 1983 that killed 241 American Marines and 56 French servicemen sleeping in their barracks. Can't pull the wool over the eyes of any man or woman with access to google.
