CLAIM: OBAMA CAMPAIGN CO-CHAIR ATTACKED ROMNEY WITH LEAKED IRS DOCS

by MATTHEW BOYLE 14 May 2013
One of President Barack Obama's re-election campaign co-chairmen used a leaked document from the IRS to attack GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney during the 2012 election, according to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM).NOM, a pro-traditional marriage organization, claims the IRS leaked their 2008 confidential financial documents to the rival Human Rights Campaign. Those NOM documents were published on the Huffington Post on March 30, 2012. At that time, Joe Solmonese, a left-wing activist and Huffington Post contributor , was the president of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Solmonese was also a 2012 Obama campaign co-chairman.

Both the Huffington Post's Sam Stein and HRC described the leak as coming from a "whistleblower." The Huffington Post used the document to write a story questioning former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney's support for traditional marriage. The document showed Romney donated $10,000 to NOM. HRC went a step further than the Huffington Post in its criticism of Romney and accused him of using "racially divisive tactics" in a press release.

Solmonese, then still the HRC's president, said in the release he felt Romney's "funding of a hate-filled campaign designed to drive a wedge between Americans is beyond despicable."

"Not only has Romney signed NOM's radical marriage pledge, now we know he's one of the donors that NOM has been so desperate to keep secret all these years," Solmonese added.

Solmonese resigned his position at HRC the next day and took up a position as an Obama campaign co-chair. He had announced the then-pending resignation from HRC the previous autumn.

NOM announced Tuesday that it will sue the IRS for this alleged leak. Under immense political pressure, Attorney General Eric Holder launched a criminal investigation into the IRS's actions. Congress will conduct ts own investigation .

In early April 2012, NOM published documents which it said showed this leaked confidential information did not come from a "whistleblower" but "came directly from the Internal Revenue Service and was provided to NOM's political opponents, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC)."

NOM discovered that when HRC published its confidential financial documents, it failed to conceal the source of the documents. "After software removed the layers obscuring the document, it is shown that the document came from the Internal Revenue Service," NOM asserted in its April 2012 release.

"The top of each page says, 'THIS IS A COPY OF A LIVE RETURN FROM SMIPS. OFFICIAL USE ONLY,'" the statement continues. "On each page of the return is stamped a document ID of '100560209.' Only the IRS would have the Form 990 with 'Official Use' information."

NOM president Brian Brown argued in that April 2012 release that the leak was made to benefit President Obama's re-election campaign against Romney, his GOP challenger. "The American people are entitled to know how a confidential tax return containing private donor information filed exclusively with the Internal Revenue Service has been given to our political opponents whose leader also happens to be co-chairing President Obama's reelection committee," Brown said.

"It is shocking that a political ally of President Obama's would come to possess and then publicly release a confidential tax return that came directly from the Internal Revenue Service," he declared. "We demand to know who is responsible for this criminal act and what the Administration is going to do to get to the bottom of it."

U.S. says 'no information' Syria rebels used chemical arms

Monday, 6 May 2013

AFP, Washington -

The United States said Monday it was "highly skeptical" of an assertion that
Syrian rebels had used chemical weapons, after a U.N. human rights investigator
suggested the opposition had deployed sarin gas.

Washington also
reiterated that Israel had every right to protect itself and to prevent
sophisticated weaponry from getting into the hands of Hezbollah, following
several Israeli raids on sites in Damascus.

"We are highly skeptical of
suggestions that the opposition could have or did use chemical weapons," said
White House spokesman Jay Carney.

"We find it highly likely that any
chemical weapon use that has taken place in Syria was done by the Assad regime.
And that remains our position," Carney said.

A senior U.S. official
separately said that Washington had no information to suggest Syrian rebels had
"capability or the intent to deploy or use such weapons."

Carla del
Ponte, a former war crimes prosecutor, told Swiss public broadcaster RSI that
"according to the testimonies we have gathered, the rebels have used chemical
weapons, making use of sarin gas."

The senior official also noted that
"Ms Del Ponte does not work on the same expert team, which the United Nations
has assembled to go into Syria as they are two different parts of the United
Nations organization."

Carney also reiterated President Barack Obama's
statement at the weekend that Israel was within its rights to safeguard its
security, though would not directly comment on Israeli military
reaction.

"Israel certainly has the right to be concerned about the
transfer of sophisticated weapons to Hezbollah, and that has been a concern of
Israel's for a long time," Carney said.

The air strikes early on Sunday
near Damascus were the Jewish state's second reported air raids on Syria in 48
hours. An early Friday raid had targeted a weapons storage facility at Damascus
airport.

A watchdog group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told
AFP that 42 soldiers were killed in the strikes and another 100 remained
unaccounted for.

Carney also sidestepped a question about whether the
slaughter of civilians in a civil war that has claimed more than 70,000 lives
amounted to genocide.

"The terminology that may be used by courts or the
United Nations or others, I will leave to them," Carney said.

"But it is
heinous and despicable. It is the kind of action that long ago rendered Assad
incapable of continuing in power with any kind of legitimacy."

Obama is
coming under increasing pressure in Washington from domestic political critics
who are demanding action, including an operation to arm rebels or set up a
no-fly zone to protect civilians.

The White House has said it is
considering all its options, including reviewing its opposition to date to
providing weapons to rebels, but Carney declined to provide a timeline for the
deliberations.

Gabriel Gomez on Saturday demanded Ed Markey take down a web video that features the Gomez briefly sharing the screen with Osama bin Laden.

"Career
Politician Ed Markey has started his campaign with a textbook
despicable political attack to attempt to connect me with Osama Bin
Laden in the minds of voters," Gomez said. "This attack is an insult to
my service and an insult to the intelligence of the people of
Massachusetts. Congressman Markey should direct his campaign to
immediately stop this ad, stop his mudslinging and debate me on issues
that Massachusetts voters care about, the economy and jobs."
The
Markey video highlights Gomez's work for a special interest group
called the Special Operations OPSEC Education Fund that filmed a video
during the 2012 campaign accusing President Obama of politicizing bin
Laden's death.Markey's ad features Gomez defending OPSEC on
MSNBC, and then a clip of the video produced by the group that accuses
President Obama of "politically capitalizing on U.S. national security
operations and secrets."That video clip, originally produced by
OPSEC, includes images of both President Obama and bin Laden. Because it
is shown next to an image of Gomez, the Republican Senate candidate and
the terrorist leader appear on screen next to each other for about
eight seconds.National Republican Senatorial Committee
communications Brad Dayspring suggested on Twitter Friday that the
juxtaposition was intentional, accusing Markey of going "ugly early."
But
the Markey campaign said in a press release accompanying their web ad
that it was intended to show that Gomez isn't above partisan attacks.
The Massachusetts Republican has attempted to position himself as a
moderate in his Senate campaign.
"Gabriel Gomez says he is 'a
new kind of Republican,' but less than a year ago he was a spokesman for
a right-wing, secretly-funded special interest group that tried to
'swift boat' President Obama's handling of the killing of Osama bin
Laden," the Markey campaign said in a release.

Israel Police chief: Wave of attacks on Arabs is despicable phenomenon

Police Commissioner Danino instructs officers to prioritize incidents in which Arabs attacked by Jews -

Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino called the wave of nationalistically-motivated assaults across Israel a "despicable and criminal" phenomenon.

During an assessment meeting at the Tel Aviv District Police headquarters on Thursday, Danino instructed officers to prioritize the treatment of such attacks, adding that the suspects would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

"This is our response to any expression of racism. This is the way to root out the phenomenon," he said.

A senior police official said the recent attacks on Arab citizens "heighten the tension between the sectors, even if not all the attacks are nationalistically-motivated."

On Wednesday two female teachers who work in the same school, an Arab and a Jew, were attacked by young ultra-Orthodox as they were making their way in Jerusalem. The haredim hurled stones and shattered the window of the car the teachers were travelling in. One of the assailants was arrested after he was identified by one of the teachers.

The Jerusalem Magistrates' Court extended the 16-year-old detainee's remand by one day, and he is expected to be released on Friday.

Over the weekend an Arab couple was attacked on one of the shores of Lake Kinneret. Four youngsters from Tiberias were arrested on suspicion of beating the Arab man, Nimer Sharkawi, at dawn Saturday.

Sharkawi was vacationing with his wife in the Kinneret when the suspects approached him. "Friday night we were at the beach and a group of about eight religious teens came in our direction and began shouting 'Arab, get out of the Kinneret,'" Sharkawi told Ynet.

It was later discovered that two of the suspects were involved in an attack on an Arab municipality worker in Tel Aviv last week.

A day after the attack on the municipality worker, a scuffle broke out between a group of Jewish teenage girls and an Arab woman near the Light Rail station in Jerusalem's Kiryat Moshe neighborhood.

The woman, Hanna Amtir (38), filed a complaint with Israel Police. Three teenage girls were arrested in connection with the attack. They were released on bail and banned from entering Jerusalem for a period of one month. The Jewish girls claimed Amtir attacked them first. Police recommended that the State file indictments against the Jewish girls.

The Truth about Jdaidet Artuz ... MASSACRING THE REBELS

The FSA declared their withdrawal yesterday from Jdaidet Artuz, YET they contradicted themselves as they said that the army did a massacre killing 300 people some of which are women and children.
Look at the unarmed dead, and look at the
civilians who were "killed" still alive and praising the army and so ecstatic in their thanks. Also some civilians who were captured and abused by the rebels ( the rebels accused them of being syrian officers and collaborators with the regime) are seen talking in the beginning after the army liberated them.

Every time rebels get
crushed they try to call it a massacre in order to call for external
help or at least to prevent the army from continuing its attack, which, for the past two years,
is what helped them to continually come back and fight after the SAA hurts them badly.. This despicable strategy.

But if they defeat the SAA, they shout ALLAHO AKBAR and mutilate the body of the dead SAA and declare victory and jihad etc etc

The
army should not care what happens on the media anymore, just go on and
finish it completely. If every time they crush the rebels the army is
forced to retreat due to international pressure or media propaganda this conflict will not
end and the civilians will suffer horribly.

Save the civilians and crush the rebels.

RIP to the 11 soldiers who died in this battle and to the 30 executed civilians and soldiers.

NY Times: Terrorist Plots, Hatched by the F.B.I.

By DAVID K. SHIPLER

THE United States has been narrowly saved from lethal terrorist plots in recent years - or so it has seemed. A would-be suicide bomber was intercepted on his way to the Capitol; a scheme to bomb synagogues and shoot Stinger missiles at military aircraft was developed by men in Newburgh, N.Y.; and a fanciful idea to fly explosive-laden model planes into the Pentagon and the Capitol was hatched in Massachusetts. But all these dramas were facilitated by the F.B.I., whose undercover agents and informers posed as terrorists offering a dummy missile, fake C-4 explosives, a disarmed suicide vest and rudimentary training. Suspects na"ively played their parts until they were arrested.

When an Oregon college student, Mohamed Osman Mohamud , thought of using a car bomb to attack a festive Christmas-tree lighting ceremony in Portland, the F.B.I. provided a van loaded with six 55-gallon drums of "inert material," harmless blasting caps, a detonator cord and a gallon of diesel fuel to make the van smell flammable. An undercover F.B.I. agent even did the driving, with Mr. Mohamud in the passenger seat. To trigger the bomb the student punched a number into a cellphone and got no boom, only a bust.

This is legal, but is it legitimate? Without the F.B.I., would the culprits commit violence on their own? Is cultivating potential terrorists the best use of the manpower designed to find the real ones? Judging by their official answers, the F.B.I. and the Justice Department are sure of themselves - too sure, perhaps.

Carefully orchestrated sting operations usually hold up in court. Defendants invariably claim entrapment and almost always lose, because the law requires that they show no predisposition to commit the crime, even when induced by government agents. To underscore their predisposition, many suspects are "warned about the seriousness of their plots and given opportunities to back out," said Dean Boyd, a Justice Department spokesman. But not always, recorded conversations show. Sometimes they are coaxed to continue.

Undercover operations, long practiced by the F.B.I., have become a mainstay of counterterrorism, and they have changed in response to the post-9/11 focus on prevention. "Prior to 9/11 it would be very unusual for the F.B.I. to present a crime opportunity that wasn't in the scope of the activities that a person was already involved in," said Mike German of the American Civil Liberties Union, a lawyer and former F.B.I. agent who infiltrated white supremacist groups. An alleged drug dealer would be set up to sell drugs to an undercover agent, an arms trafficker to sell weapons. That still happens routinely, but less so in counterterrorism, and for good reason.

"There isn't a business of terrorism in the United States, thank God," a former federal prosecutor, David Raskin, explained.

"You're not going to be able to go to a street corner and find somebody who's already blown something up," he said. Therefore, the usual goal is not "to find somebody who's already engaged in terrorism but find somebody who would jump at the opportunity if a real terrorist showed up in town."

And that's the gray area. Who is susceptible? Anyone who plays along with the agents, apparently. Once the snare is set, law enforcement sees no choice. "Ignoring such threats is not an option," Mr. Boyd argued, "given the possibility that the suspect could act alone at any time or find someone else willing to help him."

Typically, the stings initially target suspects for pure speech - comments to an informer outside a mosque, angry postings on Web sites, e-mails with radicals overseas - then woo them into relationships with informers, who are often convicted felons working in exchange for leniency, or with F.B.I. agents posing as members of Al Qaeda or other groups.

Some targets have previous involvement in more than idle talk: for example, Waad Ramadan Alwan, an Iraqi in Kentucky, whose fingerprints were found on an unexploded roadside bomb near Bayji, Iraq, and Raja Khan of Chicago , who had sent funds to an Al Qaeda leader in Pakistan.

But others seem ambivalent, incompetent and adrift, like hapless wannabes looking for a cause that the informer or undercover agent skillfully helps them find. Take the Stinger missile defendant James Cromitie, a low-level drug dealer with a criminal record that included no violence or hate crime, despite his rants against Jews. "He was searching for answers within his Islamic faith," said his lawyer, Clinton W. Calhoun III, who has appealed his conviction. "And this informant, I think, twisted that search in a really pretty awful way, sort of misdirected Cromitie in his search and turned him towards violence."

THE informer, Shahed Hussain, had been charged with fraud, but avoided prison and deportation by working undercover in another investigation. He was being paid by the F.B.I. to pose as a wealthy Pakistani with ties to Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terrorist group that Mr. Cromitie apparently had never heard of before they met by chance in the parking lot of a mosque.

"Brother, did you ever try to do anything for the cause of Islam?" Mr. Hussain asked at one point.

"O.K., brother," Mr. Cromitie replied warily, "where you going with this, brother?"

Two days later, the informer told him, "Allah has more work for you to do," and added, "Revelation is going to come in your dreams that you have to do this thing, O.K.?" About 15 minutes later, Mr. Hussain proposed the idea of using missiles, saying he could get them in a container from China. Mr. Cromitie laughed.

Reading hundreds of pages of transcripts of the recorded conversations is like looking at the inkblots of a Rorschach test. Patterns of willingness and hesitation overlap and merge. "I don't want anyone to get hurt," Mr. Cromitie said, and then explained that he meant women and children. "I don't care if it's a whole synagogue of men." It took 11 months of meandering discussion and a promise of $250,000 to lead him, with three co-conspirators he recruited, to plant fake bombs at two Riverdale synagogues.

"Only the government could have made a 'terrorist' out of Mr. Cromitie, whose buffoonery is positively Shakespearean in its scope," said Judge Colleen McMahon, sentencing him to 25 years. She branded it a "fantasy terror operation" but called his attempt "beyond despicable" and rejected his claim of entrapment.

The judge's statement was unusual, but Mr. Cromitie's characteristics were not. His incompetence and ambivalence could be found among other aspiring terrorists whose grandiose plans were nurtured by law enforcement. They included men who wanted to attack fuel lines at Kennedy International Airport; destroy the Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) in Chicago; carry out a suicide bombing near Tampa Bay, Fla., and bomb subways in New York and Washington. Of the 22 most frightening plans for attacks since 9/11 on American soil, 14 were developed in sting operations.

Another New York City subway plot, which recently went to trial, needed no help from government. Nor did a bombing attempt in Times Square, the abortive underwear bombing in a jetliner over Detroit, a planned attack on Fort Dix, N.J., and several smaller efforts. Some threats are real, others less so. In terrorism, it's not easy to tell the difference.

Teenager Convicted Of Raping 11-Year-Old Girl

A teenager has been found guilty of raping an
11-year-old girl as she made her way home from school in a "vicious and
horrific" attack.

Opemipo Jaji, 18, subjected his victim to a three-hour ordeal and threatened to stab her when she tried to escape.

He followed the youngster from a bus stop in November 2012 and first
forced her into a housing estate before sexually assaulting her.

The court heard he stuffed a school tie and gloves into her mouth to stop her screaming.

The trainee chef later took the girl to Jubilee Park in Enfield, where
he repeatedly raped her, at one point telling her he was close to
killing her.

During his trial at the Old Bailey, Jaji denied the offence, telling
police he had seen the girl on the bus but nothing had happened.

He claimed he had visited the park later that evening on his own and
sat on the grass, which was why he had her blood on his clothes.

"I am just not capable of doing something as despicable and heartless as this," he told the court.

The attack was described as "vicious and horrific" by the Crown Prosecution Service.

Detective Chief Inspector Adam Lowe said: "Jaji posed a great danger to
young girls and, despite the great weight of evidence against him,
refused to accept his guilt and forced the victim to give evidence in
court.

"This was a particularly brutal but unusual attack on an innocent
11-year-old schoolgirl who will, no doubt, continue to suffer the
emotional scars of what happened to her for a very long time."

At the time of his arrest, Jaji had two previous convictions, one
involving an attack on a 12-year-old and another for making an indecent
picture of a child.

He will be sentenced in two weeks' time.

Cape Town Student Newspaper Conducts Poll Asking What Is 'Most Attractive Race'

Cape Town Student Newspaper Conducts Poll Asking What Is 'Most Attractive Race'

Aislinn Laing, Telegraph (London), April 5, 2013

A student newspaper at the University of Cape Town has prompted outrage after conducting a poll to determine the "most attractive race".

The survey of 60 students - 10 each of whom described themselves as white, Indian, East Asian, mixed race, black or "coloured", was carried out by student Qamran Tabo to go alongside an article she wrote for Varsity newspaper entitled "Is Love Colour Blind?"

It recorded that 38 per cent of students thought whites were the most "attractive" race, followed by coloureds, and Indians. The lowest percentage by race was blacks, with eight per cent of votes.

The poll prompted calls for a full apology from the newspaper. The Young Communist League of South Africa's UCT branch lodged a complaint with South Africa's Human Rights Commission, saying the article incited racial division and caused psychological harm to students.

As well as an apology for publishing such "filth", it called on the university to dedicate a month to a "race relations building" programme among its students.

"The article and its alleged survey were always leading to inculcate a culture of one race being the jewel of all others. It is despicable to read," it said in a statement.

UCT's Student Representative Council said greater sensitivity should have been shown to an issue that had "painful historical significance".

Outside the university, those who voiced their disapproval included the celebrated human rights activist Zackie Achmat, who tweeted that it was "racist nonsense"

Frans Cronje, of the South African Institute of Race Relations, said the survey was not racist.

"Funny how the sometime proponents of free speech change when they don't like what is said," he said. "The survey simply reflects what we see in the media and advertising."

Alexandra Nagel, Varsity's editor-in-chief, issued a qualified apology to anyone who was offended but stressed that the article and survey was in the paper's opinion section so should not be taken as fact.

"I am aware of the controversy surrounding the sensitivity of race and I understand that the right to freedom of expression has its limits when used unnecessarily to discriminate against others, slandering religion, race, sexuality," she said. "However, Varsity feels that the writer was not abusing this right nor had the intention of issuing an attack on individual racial groups, but simply pinpointing a matter that is still affecting the lives of South Africans."

Why Cops are "Pricks"

Cry havoc and slip the haters

Anyone ever wonder why cops are such 'pricks'? Every shitty, rotten, horrible, scary situation that exists in life, cops deal with it. Repeatedly. Every friggen' day. Your 'worst day ever' is just another tour to a cop. Car accident, homicide, rape, robbery, baby mama drama, baby daddy drama, family dispute over who gets the last pork chop that winds up with a dinner guest sporting a steak knife in the chest, a kid that goes missing or runs away, a Dad who gets tanked up and uses Mom as a speed bag, a drug overdose, hostage situations...every despicable thing that one human being can do to another is what the police are immersed in every day.

Just recently, police in Newburgh, NY were at the scene where a wonderful upstanding citizen was holding others hostage. Earlier this year, this young man's brother charged the police with a knife (it was the last thing he did on this earth...) and the present hostage situation put the lives of 2 people in peril as the perpetrator ranted and raved. The police charged him and subdued him.

What does his family do? Why, they charge the police of course! Listen, one family member was a savage who tried to kill the police and just a few months later his little brother is threatening the lives of others while he holds them hostage. Just after minimizing the threat from this psycho, they have to hold off his family who tried to rush the police.

Just a little note, when your 'emotionally disturbed' family member is off his/her meds and is a danger to himself or to society and the police have to be called to the scene, try to remember they are the police. If you wanted a social worker or a psychologist, you should have dialed one directly.

This past month, a young NYPD officer gained some notoriety when he bought a pair of boots for what appeared to be a homeless man down on his luck on the streets of Manhattan. It was a selfless gesture and the story went nationwide.

It was an opportunity to see the police in a kinder, softer light and quite a human interest story. Of course the media wanted to know all about the recipient of the benevolence - who was he? What was his 'story'? Well, it was learned that

Mr. Hillman was not (and is not) homeless. He has a nice apartment in the Bronx; he receives Social Security and Veteran's benefits and has a loving supportive family in Pennsylvania. When asked what he did with the boots, he claimed that he hid them because he didn't want to be robbed and that they were valuable (B.S. - he sold them).

Mr. Hillman also claimed that he intends to sue the photographer because he didn't give permission for his picture to be taken and he wants a 'piece of the pie'.

Officer DePrimo said that he was going to keep the receipt in his bulletproof vest as a reminder that no matter how hard a day he was having, he would know that someone else is having a harder time and that he would always be grateful.

Officer DePrimo did an honorable thing, but the death of his innocence and naivte has begun and in its place, cynicism and disdain may have begun its germination.

Stuff like this happens all the time. You call, they come. When they come, it is likely that someone will be leaving in handcuffs. You cannot call the police to a violent situation and expect that in the end, everyone's tears will be dried, hot chocolate and cookies will be handed out to be enjoyed by all and "Kumbaya" will be heard in the background.

They are law enforcement officers. They enforce the law. You do not get to determine how they execute their duties. If you could have handled the scumbag you called them about, you would have.

You couldn't, so just shut the hell up and deal with the fact that your husband/wife/brother/sister/baby mama/baby daddy/child/BFF could very well be spending time as a guest of the municipality who came to answer your call for help.

Cops hang out with other cops. They get each other; they don't have to explain themselves.

They laugh at things other people think inappropriate. Their humor is dark, but they love to laugh. They work second jobs and they are Boy Scout Leaders, lacrosse, football, soccer, hockey and baseball coaches.

The divorce rate in the United States is over 50%, for cops it is significantly higher, and with good reason. They spend twenty -plus years being tired and grumpy from the commute, the crazy hours, the job and pain in the butt bosses. When they walk in the door and the kids yell, "Daddy!" (or, "Mommy!") they 're ready with a big hug, a smile and a "What's up guys?"

How, you ask, do I know these things? I have spent twenty seven years being married to one of them. He is one of those big-mouthed tough guys who know everything. He trusts no one. He is a cop's cop. He has an amazing memory and eye for detail that is astounding. Anyone who has ever worked with him will tell you he is probably a little crazy, but that he is the best cop they ever worked with.

For twenty years, I watched him walk out the door and I always prayed that he would come back. There were some really close calls, but he always made it home. I have never taken that for granted, I know too well the ache and emptiness in the eyes of the survivors of the shield.

For twenty years, I lent my husband to New York City to patrol the streets and to keep the wolves at bay so that the people of that city could live under the blanket of security and safety that his existence provided; all the while knowing that the very citizens he protected resented his presence. In 2010, our son took the oath of office and wears the shield his father wore before him.

Again, I wait each night until I hear the key in the door before I fall into a deep sleep.

Cops ARE pricks. It's what keeps them alive and whole, because if they let all the crap they deal with actually sink in, it would destroy their souls. So they will deal with the things you don't want to believe really happen. They will be physically and emotionally bruised, battered and bloodied. And at the end of each tour when they take off the uniform and close their locker they say a brief prayer of thanks for making it through the day safely.

There is one thing that a cop wants every day when he or she goes into work - just one thing. At the end of tour, they want to go home. That's it, just to make it home where things are normal, boring and safe. When all is said and done, that really is their job - to make it through the day and arrive home safe and sound.

Boston: Pressure Cooker Bombs Hidden In Bags

The explosives were put inside pressure cookers and hidden in duffel bags packed with nails and ball bearings, sources reveal.
The devices used to kill three and injure more than 170 in an "act of terror" were pressure cooker bombs hidden in duffel bags, a source close to the investigation has dislcosed.

The bags had been packed with nails, shards of metal and ball bearings and were placed on the ground, around 100m apart along the finishing stretch of the Boston Marathon route.

The source, who was speaking anonymously, said that law enforcement officials had some of the bomb components but did not yet know what had been used to set off the explosives.

President Barack Obama today labelled the twin-bombing an "act of terror".

Speaking at a news conference, he said: "What we don't yet know, however, is who carried out this attack or why, whether it was planned and executed by a terrorist organisation, foreign or domestic, or was the act of a malevolent individual." http://news.sky.com/story/1078915/boston-marathon-explosions-nails-in-bombs
He added: "What I have indicated to you is what we now know. We know it was bombs that were set off. We know that obviously they did some severe damage. We do not know who did them.

"We don't have a sense of motive yet. So everything else at this point is speculation."

His comments came after FBI special agent Richard DesLauriers vowed: "We will go to the ends of the Earth to identify the subject or subjects who are responsible for this despicable crime, and we will do everything we can to bring them to justice."

The FBI said it was following a number of leads in the wake of the attacks but Mr DesLauriers declined to say whether anyone was in custody.

Omar Jabar tells police his gang planned to place monument, in honor of terror attack on bus No. 405, in West Bank city's central square.

The massive metal monument was ripped from the ground in December following several attempts to steal it over the past few years. It was erected in honor of the 16 people who were killed on July 6, 1989 when Hamas terrorist Abed al-Hadi Ghaneim seized the steering wheel of a crowded Israeli bus en route from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem and ran it off a steep cliff into a ravine near Kiryat Ye'arim.
The terrorist, which survived the accident he caused, was released from an Israeli prison as part of the prisoner exchange deal which secured the release of Gilad Shalit.

------

Omar Jabar, a resident of Abu Gosh, was arrested on suspicion of stealing parts of a monument erected in honor of those killed in the terror attack on bus No. 405 near Kiryat Ye'arim. The Jerusalem Magistrates Court extended his remand by four days on Tuesday. Judge Tamar Bar-Asher Tsaban said Jabar is suspected of defacing a monument, conspiring to commit a crime and stealing property worth more than NIS 500,000 (about $138,000).

The investigation found that the monument was cut apart in two stages over a few days last December and was then stolen for its metal. Jerusalem Police investigators say that during his interrogation Jabar claimed he belonged to a gang that wanted to place the monument in a central square in Ramallah. Police are working with Palestinian elements to see whether parts of the monument were in fact transferred to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.

The massive metal monument was ripped from the ground in December following several attempts to steal it over the past few years. Ghaneim was released from an Israeli prison as part of the prisoner exchange deal which secured the release ofGilad Shalit.

Aziz Tzerafi, whose wife Miriam was killed in the terror attack, told Ynet: "The fact that they wanted to take the monument to Ramallah shows they are despicable. These are people who have no conscience, barbarians; they are not human and I hope those who are caught are prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This hurts the (bereaved) families."
