Holder Smacks Down Clueless Gohmert Over Boston Bombings

From this Wednesday's House Judiciary Committee hearing, Darrell Issa wasn't the only one who had a contentious back and forth with Attorney General Eric Holder: Holder smacks down Gohmert over Boston bombings-'You cannot know what I know' :

An already-ugly House Judiciary Committee hearing on
Wednesday turned even nastier when Texas Republican Louie Gohmert took
the wheel on questions related to last month's Boston Marathon
bombing-specifically, about what the FBI did and did not do after
receiving information from Russian intelligence that suspect Tamerlan
Tsarnaev had been radicalized.
Attorney General Eric Holder had already faced a heavy grilling on
both the AP and IRS scandals plaguing the Obama administration this
week when Gohmert began pelting him with accusations that the FBI
shirked a thorough examination of Tsarnaev because of "political
correctness."
"On the one hand, we go after Christian groups like Billy Graham's
group, we go after Franklin Graham's group, but then we're hands off
when it comes to possibly offending someone who has been radicalized as
a terrorist," said Gohmert.
The Texas lawmaker added that though he "appreciated" the concern of
racial profiling, he believes "there were a lot more people in America
concerned about being blown up by terrorists."
Holder fired back that Gohmert was speaking "as a matter of fact" about information not fully available to him.

"Unless somebody's done something inappropriate, you don't have
access to the FBI files," said Holder. "You don't know what the FBI
did. You don't know what the FBI's interaction was with the Russians.
You don't know what questions were put to the Russians, whether those
questions were responded to. You simply do not know that...I know what the
FBI did. You cannot know what I know."
Yeah, old "terror babies" Gohmert is back at it again, fearmongering as usual.

Minnesota Marriage Equality House file 1054 - Moron Mike Frey's Testimony

This is the actual public testimony of "concerned Minnesotan, father, and husband" Mike Frey, given yesterday at a public hearing on marriage equality in the Minnesota State House. His major concern about marriage equality is the cost to Minnesota taxpayers of all the AIDS that same-sex marriage will cause, and he's got a lot of excellent facts to back him up:

handed out to the committee members]

'My name is Mike Frey, and I speak as a concerned Minnesotan, and father, and a husband. And the thing about same sex marriage is that people who are married do have sex. And when same-sex people are married, they do have sex-there's something called sodomy. Sodomy defined in Minnesota is sex by or with the mouth or through the anus. When there is ejaculation into a vagina, there is a barrier there - as in your packet it states there - of a cellular tissue that doesn't allow the sperm, that has an enzyme at the head of it, to penetrate the blood flow. It is designed to go to the egg - that enzyme is designed to burn the outside membrane of the egg cell - go inside the egg, and then deposit the DNA. We call that conception.

When ejaculation occurs inside of a colon - it is a highly absorbent material - the cells do not have a barrier for the sperm, and those enzymes to enter into the bloodflow. When the enzymes enter into the bloodflow and a continued, prolonged, um, environment to that happens these enzymes into bloodflow it causes what we know as AIDS - Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. And AIDS of course brings on common diseases, colds and things, and it magnifies them to a point where it's unhealthy. Not only does it strengthen the disease within the carrier of AIDS - the person that has a destroyed immune system - but it also strengthens the disease that can be spread to the society at large.

There is an example in Los Angeles County, California, where among the gay community a rash almost like boils, and a very raw skin broke out on the hands, feet, butt, mouth of these gay communities and they couldn't find a cure for it for a long time. Their doctors called the Centers for Disease Control and they couldn't find this cure for it. The cure they found, a very extrenuous antibiotic, was Zyvox. It cost $2,400 for one course of use.

I urge you to vote against the changes inside this bill, because it's going to put a health risk for the society at large, and it's going to put a financial burden on the people of Minnesota to be able to support all the diseases that will come out of this. Thank you so much for your time.'

Thanks for all the solid info, Dr. Genius!

All these years, I was under the impression that unmarried straight, gay, and bi people can have sex. And that not all married people have sex. And that lots of straight and bi people are into sodomy. And that lesbians exist. And that the reason half of the world's HIV/AIDS population are female is, in fact, because of our "biological vulnerability to HIV infection" which makes us "twice more likely to become infected with HIV through unprotected heterosexual intercourse than men." GLAD TO HAVE ALL THAT CLEARED UP!

This guy is the fucking worst. I have seen some rank homophobia in my day, and burying it behind Jesus and "tradition" are terrible enough, but burying it behind a garbage science lesson and fearmongering about the public cost of HIV/AIDS is somehow extra terrible.

And, frankly, Mr. Frey had better hope that the government is not persuaded to start legislating against unions whose sexual consequences could cost the taxpayers money, as long as we're still funding public education for schoolchildren.

Anyway. One final thought: Who the fuck are these conservative dudes who imagine cis women have magic vaginas?! We can stop pregnancy after rape with our magic vaginas! We can stop the transmission of HIV with our magic vaginas! We can stop speeding bullets with our magic vaginas!

Would that a magic vagina could stop these dipshits from talking.

The Great Ammunition Myth

MARCH 5, 2013 4:00 A.M.The government is not planning a violent putdown of civil unrest.
By Charles C. W. Cooke

Last year, the Social Security Administration put out a procurement request for 174,000 rounds of ".357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow point pistol ammunition," prompting a few on the Internet to work themselves up into something of a frenzy. "It's not outlandish," claimed Paul Joseph Wilson, one of a team of professional paranoiacs on the Infowars website, "to suggest that the Social Security Administration is purchasing the bullets as part of preparations for civil unrest." "Something strange is going on," harmonized Breitbart's William Bigelow. Even Mark Levin was concerned. "I know why the government's arming up," he deduced. "It's not because there's going to be an insurrection; it's because our society is unraveling."

The Social Security Administration's purchase was by no means an anomaly. A year earlier, the unlikely pair of the Department of Agriculture ( 320,000 rounds ) and the National Weather Service ( 46,000 rounds ) had both put out tenders for ammunition. And slightly less odd, but still staggering, were the FBI's professed intention to purchase up to 100 million "hollow point" rounds and the Department of Homeland Security's concurrent request for 450 million rounds. The Department of Education got in on the weapons-supplying spree, too, purchasing "27 Remington Brand Model 870 police 12-gauge shotguns."

The first question: "Why?" The second: "Should we be worried?"

The appeal of this story is obvious, and that some citizens keep track of such things shows an admirable vigilance. But while a healthy suspicion of government serves these United States better than critics presume, facts remain the stubborn things that they always have been, and skepticism is no virtue at all when it proves impervious to reason. Those who are vexed that the state is stocking up on ammunition - and troubled by fears that this might be a step toward D.C.'s assault on the citizens for whom it works - can relax for now. Whatever the federal government has become, it is not yet plotting violence against the people.

Nonetheless, one could reasonably ask why the Social Security Administration would need any ammunition at all. Are the elderly especially unruly these days? Jonathan L. Lasher, in the SSA's external-relations department, explained to the Huffington Post that the ammunition is "for the 295 agents" in the outfit's office of inspector general "who investigate Social Security fraud and other crimes." Divide the rounds by the number of agents, and you get about 590 per agent; in a given year, that's about ten rounds a week. "Most will be expended on the firing range," Lasher continued.

Okay. And why does the USDA need 320,000 rounds? Because it runs the Forest Service, which covers "155 national forests" and "20 national grasslands" on a total of "193 million acres of land." As well as agents in the field, the outfit has a law-enforcement unit based in Washington, D.C., whose responsibility it is to enforce federal laws and regulations. In context, those 320,000 rounds look a lot less threatening: If the U.S. Forest Service were to distribute ammunition at the same rate as the Social Security Administration, they would have enough for just 542 agents - not bad for an organization that covers an area the size of Pakistan (or twice the size of Japan or Germany).

It's all about scale. Forty-six thousand rounds also sound like a lot for the National Weather Service. (Actually, the ammo was requested by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement, which is overseen by the same department.) In reality, it's not that much. The service has only 63 armed personnel, which brings the purchase out at around 730 rounds per officer. This, suffice it to say, does not present a great threat to the Republic. As the NRA has noted , "more than a few NRA members would use that much ammunition in a weekend shooting class or plinking session." There are enough risks to the right to bear arms and to American liberty in general, the NRA continued, without "inventing threats."

The FBI and DHS's apparently vast orders are deceptively presented by the conspiracy theorists. It is true that in 2011, the FBI ordered up to 100 million bullets for its 13,913 special agents (which works out to 7,187 per agent). And, yes, the Department of Homeland Security - a composite department that oversees USCIS, Customs and Border Protection, FEMA, ICE, the TSA, the Coast Guard, the Secret Service, and the National Protection Directorate - placed a request for up to 450 million rounds for its 65,000 armed personnel (which works out to 6,923 per agent).

But in the real world, ammunition is not divided up and handed out on such a basis. What is bought is stockpiled and then allocated on the basis of need. The DHS's order is expected to last for at least five years, and it was placed up front primarily as a cost-saving measure. Moreover, as the chief of staff to Congressman Lynn Westmoreland (R., Georgia) revealed in a press release in May 2012 that was designed to calm the fears of his constituents:

DHS entered into a contract that allows them to purchase up to 450 million rounds of 40 caliber ammunition over the next five years. They cannot exceed 450 million rounds and are not required to purchase 450 million rounds. Basically, they have a tab with a manufacturer to order more rounds as they are needed over the next five years - not a one-time ammunition order.

Think of it like "that monthly trip to Sam's Club or Costco," he added.

The popular claim that one in five IRS agents is armed is false, too. Only 3 percent of IRS agents - 2,725 people, to be precise - are "special agents" who work on criminal cases. Also untrue, but a popular talking point: The legions of new IRS agents expected to be hired to enforce Obamacare will be armed. I am second to none in wishing that the IRS did not exist, and that, if it must, it did not have Obamacare to enforce. But that is no excuse for fearmongering, and Ron Paul's infamous claim that the IRS was set to hire 16,500 "armed bureaucrats" in order to enforce the new health-care law, not backed up in fact, has launched a thousand deranged e-mail chains.

And the Department of Education? The Washington Post 's Valerie Strauss looked into the question of those shotguns in 2010 and received the following response from the Education Department's Office of Inspector General:

The Office of Inspector General is the law enforcement arm of the U.S. Department of Education and is responsible for the detection of waste, fraud, abuse, and other criminal activity involving Federal education funds, programs, and operations. As such, OIG operates with full statutory law-enforcement authority, which includes conducting search warrants, making arrests, and carrying firearms. The acquisition of these firearms is necessary to replace older and mechanically malfunctioning firearms, and in compliance with Federal procurement requirements.

Fair enough. But here one starts to sympathize with the malcontents. There is a world of difference between the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, or Forest Service and the Department of Education, and that there is no grand clandestine plan for the subjugation of America should by no means be taken to imply that every government action is acceptable. Questions do still abound: Whether it is in possession of one bullet or 1 million bullets, should the federal Department of Education be armed in the first place? If so, why? Should its OIG be investigating external fraud rather than handing it over to the police or the DOJ or the FBI? For those federal departments that play no role in combating domestic and foreign threats - such as the DoE - what would constitute a threat requiring armed confrontation with malefactors?

In 2011, a story about a Department of Education raid went the rounds. Initial versions suggested that the department had commissioned a SWAT team to break into a California home and arrest the estranged husband of a woman who had defaulted on her student loan. Mercifully, this was incorrect. There was no SWAT team involved, nor was the target being investigated for unpaid loans. But the reality was not necessarily much better. Instead, the DoE announced that it had conducted the raid itself , in pursuit of an American citizen that it suspected of "bribery, fraud, and embezzlement of federal student aid funds." It was a disaster; the suspect no longer lived in the house, a fact that special agents eventually discovered after they had smashed in the doors at dawn, thrown the occupant's children into a police car, and kept the suspect's (innocent) husband in handcuffs in a hot squad car for six hours.

As the local ABC affiliate reported , in an attempt to clear up the confusion, "police officers did not participate in breaking door, handcuffing him, or searching his home." Instead, the Department of Education did. Judging by their ammunition purchases, the Social Security Administration and the IRS could have done so, too. That, and not fantasies about a plan to counter phantom civil unrest, is what should concern Americans.

Rep. Keith Ellison Accuses Hannity Of Yellow Journalism

Second video is what set Ellison off:
On this Tuesday evening's edition of Hannity on Fox, Rep. Keith Ellison
let Hannity have it when he made an appearance directly following one of
Hannity's fearmongering video mashups, with President Obama speaking
about the sequester and the damage the spending cuts might do to the
economy, with O Fortuna
playing in the background. Ellison was shocked by what he just watched,
which Hannity asked him to respond to as soon as he came on.
HANNITY: I guess that's what we could describe as
"staying on message." Something the Democratic party, I would argue, is
very good at. Let me ask you...
ELLISON: You're pretty good at it too.

HANNITY: I... I... well thank you.

ELLISON: Quite frankly, you are the worst excuse for a journalist I've ever seen.

HANNITY: I am the what? I didn't hear you.

ELLISON: You heard me.

HANNITY: Say it again. I didn't hear you.

ELLISION: What you just displayed was not journalism. It was yellow
journalism. It wasn't anything close to try to tell the American people
what's really going on. I mean it's just shocking.
HANNITY: Yellow journalism?

ELLISON: You. Yes.

And everything went downhill (or uphill, depending on your view) from
there. Ellison called Hannity a "shill" for the Republican party, which
Hannity denied, saying he's a "Registered Conservative.(c)" (I wasn't
aware we had a "Conservative party" other than the Republican party, but
whatever.)
Of course, Hannity didn't take too kindly to the fact that he was
called out for doing what he does daily on Fox, which is just that --
shilling for Republicans and for lying to his viewers day in and day
out.
After several more minutes of the two of them arguing about the
sequester and who is responsible for our budget deficit and Hannity
still laying that at the feet of President Obama, Hannity finally cut
off Ellison's mic, saying that his "audience deserves better."

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has blasted critics of his appointing a Muslim to the state Surpreme Court as "ignorant" and "crazy" for saying the candidate would implement Sharia Law in the state.

"Ignorance is behind the criticism of Sohail Mohammed," Governor Christie told reports during a press conference Wednesday. "The folks who criticize my appointment of Sohail Mohammed are ignorant."

Christie went on to explain how Mohammed "played an integral role in the post-September-11 period building bridges between the Muslim-American community in this state and law enforcement."

As a lawyer, Mohammed represented several Muslim-American who were "inappropriately detained" by law enforcement after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Christie explained. "The fact of the matter is, there were a lot of people inappropriately detained by law enforcement, post 9/11," he added.

None of the clients Mohammed represented were ever charged by law enforcement, the Republican leader noted.

When asked by a reporter about conservative criticism that charges Mohammed of trying to bring Sharia law into New Jersey, the famously-blunt Christie exploded.

"Sharia law has nothing to do with this at all. It's crazy. It's crazy," Christie said. "The guy's an American citizen who has been an admitted lawyer to practice in the state of New Jersey, swearing an oath to uphold the laws of New Jersey, the constitution of the state of New Jersey, and the Constitution of the United States of America . . . .This Sharia law business is crap. It's just crazy. And I'm tired of dealing with the crazies."

Swine Flu Vaccine Fearmongering
Published by Harriet Hall under Vaccines
sciencebasedmedicine.org

Fear is a curious thing. It often bears no relation to the actual risk of what we fear. When swine flu first broke out in Mexico, people were understandably afraid. Travel was restricted, schools were closed, and so many people stayed home that the streets of Mexico City were empty. As the disease spread around the world, Egypt developed a paranoid fear of pigs and committed national pigicide. They ordered the slaughter of all 300,000 of their country's innocent little porkers, ignoring the fact that the flu is spread person-to-person, not pig-to-person. Now that the disease has officially been labeled a pandemic, fears have switched from the real threat of the disease to an imagined danger from the vaccine.

Some people just plain hate the idea of vaccines - to the point that they are willing to spread old falsehoods, make up new lies, distort the results of studies, misrepresent statistics, and endanger our public health. There are websites like "Operation Fax to Stop the Vax" and even anti-swine-flu-vaccine rap videos. Press releases, e-mail campaigns, talk shows, and blogs are being used to stir up irrational fears. These people are irresponsible fearmongers. They are wrong, and they are dangerous.

Background

The 1918 flu. The flu epidemic of 1918 started as a mild disease in the spring, called the "3-day fever." Most victims recovered in a few days; there were few deaths. Then in the fall, it turned into something far more severe. It was the same flu strain, but it had become more virulent. Some victims died within hours. Healthy young adults were as susceptible as children and the elderly. It affected remote villages as well as urban areas. It attacked 1/5 of the world's population, 1/4 of the US population, and killed 50 million people.

Wartime conditions may have favored the evolution of a more virulent strain. In peacetime, the sicker stay put and the mildly affected move around. In the trenches, the mildly affected stayed on duty and the sicker were sent on crowded trains to crowded field hospitals. Today, places with social upheaval might have similar effects favoring a virulent strain.

The 1976 swine flu. In February 1976 a strain of H1N1 influenza similar to the 1918 strain killed a soldier at Fort Dix. Officials feared a pandemic and over-reacted. In actuality, the H1N1 strain was limited to the Fort Dix area and quickly died out, and another related strain only persisted until March. Nevertheless, a swine flu vaccine was developed and was given to 48,000,000 Americans, 22% of the population. The vaccination program was stopped in December after 532 cases of paralysis from Guillain-Barr'e syndrome were linked to the vaccine and 25 people died. It had been a false alarm, and more people died of the vaccine than of the disease. The risk of getting Guillain-Barr'e from the vaccine was approximately 1 in 100,000.

The 2009 swine flu. Between April 15 and July 24, 2009, there were 43,771 confirmed and probable cases of H1N1 influenza ("swine flu") in the US. There were 5011 hospitalizations and 302 deaths, 39% among those aged 25 to 49, in contrast to the usual flu where 90% of the deaths are in people over age 65. For comparison, the more common strains of flu have been killing around 36,000 people a year in the US. Swine flu has been declared a phase 6 pandemic by the World Health Organization: that is a measure of its spread, not of its severity.

What are the chances that the new swine flu will follow the course of the 1918 flu? We have no way of knowing. All we can do is hope for the best and prepare for the worst. In addition to the annual flu vaccine for the usual common strains, a specific vaccine for the H1N1 strain is being prepared and tested to see whether one or two shots will be needed to produce a satisfactory immune response. So we may be offered as many as 3 shots this year. Supplies will be limited, at least in the short run, so the CDC has announced these priorities:

    * Pregnant women
    * Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age
    * Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
    * All people from 6 months through 24 years of age
    * Persons aged 25 through 64 years who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from influenza.

What if it fizzles out like the swine flu of 1976? That's already ruled out: the 1976 flu had fizzled by March; the new swine flu hasn't shown any signs of fizzling yet. We will be monitoring numbers of cases and vaccine complications very carefully, assessing the risk/benefit ratio, and we're not likely to repeat the mistakes of 1976.

The Lies and Distortions vs. the Facts

I can't hope to address all the misinformation that is circulating, and even if I could, more new lies would come out by the time I finished writing. Here are some of the ones I have heard.

A correspondent in the Netherlands forwarded me an alarmist e-mail that is circulating in Europe.

Claim: It alleges that only one person has died of swine flu in the UK, and it questions whether he really had flu. It tells us "you are slated for vaccination against a disease which poses no credible threat whatsoever."

Fact: As of August 27, the death toll in the UK was 66. As of Sept. 1, 2009, 2184 deaths had been reported worldwide. Most rational people would call that a credible threat.

Claim: Guillian-Barr'e Syndrome is a newly concocted name for a much more familiar condition: Polio.

Fact: Ridiculous! Polio is a distinct disease and its symptoms are very different from those of Guillain-Barr'e syndrome. A diagnosis of polio can be confirmed by finding the actual poliovirus particles in body secretions or cerebrospinal fluid. The last case of "wild polio" in the US occurred in 1979. Polio has been eradicated in most countries; Guillain-Barr'e still occurs regularly in every country.

Claim: Guillain-Barr'e is still being caused by flu vaccines. A study based on the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) found 54 cases of GBS reported after vaccination in the United States in 2004. 57% of these followed flu vaccines and the rest followed other vaccines.

Fact: The VAERS is a voluntary reporting system that accepts all reports of symptoms or illnesses that occurred after vaccination. It even accepted a fraudulent report claiming that a man had been turned into The Hulk by his influenza vaccine. To find out whether the VAERS reports mean anything, it is necessary to compare the incidence of the condition in those vaccinated to the incidence in the unvaccinated. Guillain-Barr'e syndrome affects 1 to 4 of every 100,000 people around the world every year, and the increased risk from vaccines is currently estimated at no more than 1 in a million.

Claim: It usually takes several years to test a drug and show that it is safe, but the swine flu vaccine is going to be fast-tracked for quick approval.

Fact: A new flu vaccine has to be developed every year to respond to the new strains that are constantly evolving. Time does not allow for the same kind of testing we require for approval of a new pharmaceutical. Time is even shorter for the swine flu this year. We have a lot of experience in producing new flu vaccines every year, and there is no reason to suspect that this year's batches will be any more dangerous than usual. Because of fast-tracking, we will be monitoring very closely for side effects. We have a choice between fast-tracking and being prepared for a serious outbreak, or being slow and cautious and totally unprepared.

Claim: 4000 people were afflicted with Guillain-Barr'e Syndrome in 1976.

Fact: At least 1 in 100,000 people would have gotten Guillain-Barr'e syndrome anyway. The excess cases attributed to the vaccine were estimated at 532 (some sources say half of that number), and most of them recovered fully. 25 deaths were attributed to the vaccine.

-------

There are several websites where writers with a bad track record for scientific credibility (like Joseph Mercola and Gary Null) advocate vaccine refusal. The Health Freedom movement wants the government to forget about trying to protect the public and give us the freedom to harm ourselves by using untested, disproven, useless, or even dangerous treatments.

Claim: Legislation allows for you to be isolated or quarantined or "incarcerated in relocation centers" if you refuse vaccination during a declared Pandemic Emergency. This is a violation of human rights and of the Constitution.

Fact: If you have active TB, the government has not only the power but the responsibility to require treatment or quarantine so you don't sit next to me on the bus and cough in my face. If you contract Ebola virus, I sure hope you will be quarantined to reduce the death toll. Quarantine is legal, is mandated by legislation, and is accepted by international law. Sometimes the duty to protect most of the people in a society temporarily trumps a few individual human rights. The government is not going to require quarantine unless there is a serious threat that demands action.

Claim: People should be allowed to "self-shield." For self-shielding you go home lock the doors and stay there. Then you can try to further protect yourself with nano-silver, homeopathic remedies, cold packs, vitamins, flavonoids, zinc, astaxanthin, magnesium, and other stuff.

Fact: A self-imposed quarantine is better than nothing, but I question whether it would be effective in practice. The suggested (untested) remedies might conceivably keep people entertained so they are more willing to stay home.

Claim: The CDC and the American Academy of Neurologists have asked neurologists to be vigilant in looking for cases of Guillain-Barr'e syndrome in people who have been vaccinated. This is an admission that they know the vaccine will be dangerous.

Fact: They clearly said "they do not expect the 2009 H1N1 vaccine to increase the risk for the autoimmune disease" but since this is a concern with any pandemic vaccine, they will be on the alert. This is a good thing. If the incidence starts rising, they will know it earlier and be able to react more quickly than they did in 1976.

Claim: The threat of Guillain-Barr'e is a reason to reject vaccines.

Fact: No one understands what causes Guillain-Barr'e syndrome, but it can develop after an infection, surgery or vaccination. It is possible that people who develop GBS after vaccination might also have developed GBS after natural exposure to the disease. "From both the societal and individual perspectives, the risk of GBS after a flu shot pales in comparison to the risk of serious adverse events if infected with the influenza virus: 60 to 70 cases of GBS vs. 20,000 deaths from influenza. Keeping things on the same scale, people over 65 years of age can choose from a risk of 1 case of GBS per million people or 10,000 cases of hospitalization and 1500 deaths due to influenza."

Claim: Joseph Mercola writes about "Squalene: The Swine Flu Vaccine's Dirty Little Secret." He has claimed that the vaccine adjuvant squalene is dangerous, that the Gulf War Syndrome was caused by the squalene in anthrax vaccines, that squalene is "good" or "bad depending on how it gets into your body: "Injection is an abnormal route of entry which incites your immune system to attack all the squalene in your body, not just the vaccine adjuvant." And the only reason they put adjuvants in vaccines is to save money.

Fact: Squalene is found naturally in the human body. It is a precursor of cholesterol and other compounds necessary to human health. Squalene antibodies were found in Gulf War veterans; but the rate turned out to be no higher in those who had Gulf War Syndrome than in those who didn't. Squalene antibodies were found at similar rates in people who had never been exposed to squalene in vaccines. The anthrax vaccine has been ruled out as a possible cause of Gulf War Syndrome. Anyway, it turns out there was no squalene in the anthrax vaccine!

American flu vaccines do not contain adjuvants, but maybe they should. Adjuvants enhance the body's innate immune response to the antigens in vaccines, making vaccines more effective. And they allow for broader cross-reactivity against viral strains not included in the vaccine. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17931151?ordinalpos=33&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum Mercola says adjuvants are added just to increase profits, but the pharmaceutical and health industries could make far more money treating patients in an epidemic than they could ever make trying to prevent one.

There is a large body of data demonstrating the safety of squalene. Flu vaccines containing MF59, a squalene-based adjuvant, have been used in Europe for 10 years, with 22,000,000 doses given; and no serious adverse events have occurred, only mild local reactions. The vaccine does not raise the incidence or titers of anti-squalene antibodies. The World Health Organization (WHO) considers it safe. http://www.who.int/vaccine_safety/topics/adjuvants/squalene/questions_and_answers/en/index.html

Claim: Flu vaccines are not very effective and don't protect everyone. The effectiveness is particularly low in the elderly.

Fact: This claim is true, BUT... In recent years, flu vaccines have been 75% effective in preventing hospitalizations for flu. 75% is way better than nothing. No vaccine is 100% effective. Flu vaccine is particularly problematic because of the constantly mutating strains of the virus. Nevertheless, the benefits of vaccines are clear. It is true that the elderly are not as well protected by the vaccine (efficacy rates have been estimated at 50% or less): that's why it's so important for younger people to be vaccinated, reducing the prevalence of the disease in the population and thereby reducing the likelihood of the elderly being exposed. In other words, don't just get the flu shot for yourself, get it for Grandma.

Claim: Mercola says "Injecting organisms into your body to provoke immunity is contrary to nature."

Fact: Nature kills people. Doing something contrary to nature is what medicine is all about. It's a good thing.

Claim: "The potential for a weaponized vaccine to be the vector for a weaponized flu cannot be discounted."

Fact: Most far-fetched conspiracy theories are wrong: I have no trouble discounting this one. The potential may be there, but the likelihood is homeopathic.

Claim: People should make their own decisions about their health care.

Fact: One of the basic principles of medical ethics is autonomy: patients have the right to accept or reject any treatment. Modern doctors try to involve the patient in the decision-making process, but most people are ill-equipped to make health decisions on their own without getting information and guidance from a health care professional. In a recent survey, 30 percent of Americans believed that there had been a case of smallpox in the United States in the past five years, and 63 percent thought there had been a case somewhere in the world in the past five years. http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/348/5/426 They didn't know that the last case in the US occurred in 1949 and the last case in the world occurred in 1977 in Somalia. Twenty-five percent thought it was likely that they would die if they got the smallpox vaccine (the actual risk of death from the vaccine is 1 per million). People who are uninformed and scientifically illiterate are not capable of making rational decisions about health matters.

Mercola's advice for preventing flu: Eliminate sugar and processed foods from your diet, take a high quality source of animal-based omega 3 fats like Krill Oil, exercise, optimize your vitamin D levels, get plenty of sleep, deal with stress, and wash your hands.

Fact: Washing your hands is a good idea.

Mercola claims: "Vitamin D deficiency is the likely cause of seasonal flu viruses."

Fact: Now really! Vitamin D deficiency in a human body can no more "cause a virus" than it could "cause a cat." Perhaps he meant vitamin D deficiency could predispose to infection, and there is some research to suggest that it might. Some have claimed that taking vitamin D supplements will prevent the flu, but there is no evidence to support that.

----------

Mercola's claims and arguments were decisively eviscerated on Science-Based Medicine by Dr. Joseph Albietz. http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/?p=851 Not only are Mercola's assertions demonstrably false, but they reveal a profound misunderstanding of immunology. Unfortunately, he reaches a large audience of scientifically na"ive people who believe his every word.

In response to Dr. Albietz's article, there were some interesting comments from readers that further demonstrate the anti-vaccine mindset and the ability to distort information to promote a cause.

Claim: The government is going to mandate that everyone get the swine flu vaccine.

Fact: No such proposal has been made. The government couldn't do it even if it tried, because there won't be enough doses to go around. That's why they've issued recommendations prioritizing who should get the vaccine first.

Claim: George Bush signed an agreement that if a pandemic emergency arose and the President declared a national state of emergency, control of the government would be passed to the United Nations. Blue-helmeted UN soldiers would run our country and the Constitution would be suspended.

Fact: It was simply an agreement to facilitate international cooperation, to share information and enhance collaboration in the event of an emergency. It says nothing about the UN at all, much less about relinquishing sovereignty to the UN or any other organization. The actual agreement can be read online: http://www.spp.gov/pdf/nap_flu07.pdf

The same person pointed out that shots hurt and that alone should tell you something. "Yet you are willing to trust these people with your lives to make a vaccine that the Creator never intended the human body should need, and let them inject it into your body? You people are scary or insane!"

No, it is the anti-vaccine zealots who are scary. They are not insane, just self-deluded and misguided. I hope the swine flu won't develop into a reprise of 1918; but if it does, the false information these people are spreading could be responsible for a great deal of death and suffering. Freedom of speech is a good thing, but this kind of fearmongering is almost as bad as shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

___________________________________________________
Vice President Biden's comment that he would advise against air travel or commuting in any confined space due to flu fears borders on "fearmongering," an airline spokesman said.

By Joshua Rhett Miller

FOXNews.com

Thursday, April 30, 2009

Vice President Joe Biden, discussing the spread of swine flu, said Thursday morning that he would advise against traveling in an airplane or in any confined space -- a comment that an airline spokesman said borders on "fearmongering."

"To suggest that people not fly at this stage of things is a broad brush stroke bordering on fearmongering," American Airlines spokesman Tim Smith said. "The facts of the situation at this stage anyway certainly don't support that."

Roughly 250,000 passengers use American Airlines daily, and not a single one of them has tested positive for swine flu, Smith said.

Biden, a longtime Amtrak rider who commuted daily between Delaware and Washington for decades, said on NBC's "Today" show Thursday morning that he wouldn't necessarily advise family members not to travel to Mexico, but "I would tell members of my family, and I have, I wouldn't go anywhere in confined places right now.

"It's not ... going to Mexico, it's that you are in a confined aircraft when one person sneezes, it goes everywhere through the aircraft. That's me.

"I would not be, at this point, if they had another way of transportation, suggesting they ride the subway," Biden said. "So from my perspective, what it relates to is mitigation. If you're out in the middle of a field and someone sneezes, that's one thing. If you're in a closed aircraft, a closed container, closed car, a closed classroom, it's a different thing."

Biden made his comments the morning after President Obama told the nation not to panic and to continue their daily routine, taking logical precautions such as washing hands frequently and staying home if you're sick. His remarks brought a quick rebuke from at least one airline, mass-transportation industries and industry trade organizations.

James May, president and CEO of the Air Transport Association of America, the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, said Biden's comments were "extremely disappointing."

"Vice President Biden's comment that people should avoid air travel in response to the H1N1 flu outbreak was extremely disappointing," May said in a statement. "The airlines have been working daily with government agencies, none of whom suggest people avoid air travel, unless they are not feeling well. The fact is that the air onboard a commercial aircraft is cleaner than that in most public buildings."

Aaron Donovan, deputy press secretary for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which operates New York's bus, subway and commuter rail system, said both New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg and the MTA's executive director rode the subway Wednesday morning to assuage any fears riders may have.

"There is no reason to stay off the subway," Donovan said in statement to FOXNews.com.

Beth Harbin, a spokeswoman for Southwest Airlines, declined to respond to Biden's comments directly, but said travelers who are fearful of contracting H1N1 can change their travel plans without penalty.

"We are advising customers to use common sense when they travel -- washing their hands, using a Kleenex when they sneeze, that sort of thing," Harbin told FOXNews.com. "People need to make decisions that they feel are best for them. We are urging common sense when traveling, and we feel that if you do, you're certainly safe for travel."

Asked if the outbreak has impacted the airline as of Wednesday, Harbin replied, "It has not affected our operations at this point. We'll just continue to monitor what's going on to see if we need to do something differently."

Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole said in a statement: "While we share the Vice President Biden's concerns about the recent outbreak of H1N1 Flu across the country, no cases of H1N1 have been reported on Amtrak trains or facilities.

"Amtrak is taking this issue very seriously and is working with federal and state authorities. While Amtrak is asking employees to be watchful, we are reminding everyone there is no reason to panic, particularly since the railroad has procedures in place to manage this kind of situation."

Officials from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority declined to comment on Biden's statement. But Biden's remarks are particularly cutting in light of the efforts by the agency to make sure its vehicles are clean and disinfected, including the use of a hospital-grade disinfectant to wipe down surfaces throughout its rail and bus systems. Metrobuses are spot-cleaned with the disinfectant every 14 days; Metrorail trains and station equipment are disinfected daily.

"It is important to remember that there are no reported cases of swine flu in the region," Metro General Manager John Catoe said in a statement Tuesday. "However, Metro is taking precautions to keep riders and employees safe, and I'm being extra careful too before and after boarding a bus or train."

Elizabeth Alexander, Biden's spokeswoman, issued a statement later in the morning to clarify the vice president's comments.

"The advice he is giving family members is the same advice the administration is giving to all Americans: that they should avoid unnecessary air travel to and from Mexico. If they are sick, they should avoid airplanes and other confined public spaces, such as subways," Alexander said.

"This is the advice the vice president has given family members who are traveling by commercial airline this week. As the president said just last night, every American should take the same steps you would take to prevent any other flu: keep your hands washed; cover your mouth when you cough; stay home from work if you're sick; and keep your children home from school if they're sick."

Meanwhile, Chuck Wilsker, president and CEO of the Telework Coalition, a nonprofit organization promoting telecommuting, said his phone has been ringing nonstop with queries from workers who want their bosses to develop telecommuting plans or from supervisors frantically trying to incorporate telecommuting plans before the flu fears spread further.

"I haven't been off the phone in two days," Wilsker told FOXNews.com. "People don't want to get on airplanes right now. If it keeps getting worse, we're going to find fewer and fewer people flying planes. A lot remains to be seen, but if we continue to head in this direction, people are going to have to make adjustments."

Wilsker, who said flu worries could eventually escalate to widespread absenteeism, building closures or quarantines at firms across the country, said he skipped a meeting yesterday he would've otherwise attended, and he called in instead.

"There's just no reason to overexpose oneself," Wilsker said. "And that's what I think was saying. He was saying what a lot of people are thinking."

Online Gallery Fearmongers For Terror Attacks in London, NYC

Friday, January 16, 2009 A bizarre, anonymous and offensive picture gallery currently appearing on the website of the London Telegraph newspaper that tells the story of a terrorist nuke attack on London has left many asking questions about its origin and meaning.

The slide show features on a section dedicated to art, culture, film and music but seemingly holds no artistic credence whatsoever, comprising merely of a series of crude pictures designed to instill fear into the viewer. The only purpose of the gallery is presumably just a continuation of the incessant drone of fearmongering propaganda from the establishment media and authorities about the imminent inevitability of a mass casualty terror attack.

Entitled Blackjack, the gallery begins with a date, June 20 at 2pm, followed by an MI5 logo and the text MI5 report warns government of imminent terrorist attack. This certainly makes sense because MI5 and MI6 have proven themselves adept at controlling terrorist groups and carrying out attacks in the past, including paying Al-Qaeda $100,000 in the mid-80s in a failed attempt to assassinate Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.

After we learn that the attack will be the work of home grown extremists, Islamists and Christian doomsday cultists, the date switches to June 21 at 12pm as a nuclear bomb is loaded onto a white van in London. As Cryptogon.com notes, the fictitious attack occurs during the Summer solstice, the name on the side of the van is New Dawn Presentations and the logo is the Sun. The white van also harks back to the Kingstar (controlled demolition company) van that was pictured near the exploded bus after the 7/7 London bombings.

After citizens panic buy groceries and flee London in droves, on June 22 at 8:03am, the nuke explodes in central London. The images then show the devastation in the aftermath of the attack as the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and Big Ben lay in ruins.

This is only the end of part one and in part two we are promised similar devastation with an image of millions fleeing New York City.

This disgusting and pointless gallery cannot be classed as culture, art or anything of the sort - it is nothing more than gratuitous and macabre pornography for those in establishment, and believe me there are many, that yearn for another 9/11 or worse in order to unravel their contemptuous political agenda.

What kind of sick mind created this and why was it allowed to feature so prominently on a major UK newspaper website? This is vile, vulgar propaganda and downright offensive, especially to the millions of people who live in London and New York City and have already suffered terrorist attacks, both of which were carried out with the complete complicity of the British and U.S. governments, within the past decade.

We need answers as to who created this, what its implausible artistic merit is, and why the London Telegraph allowed it to appear on their website.

We encourage people to make their complaints via this online form. Dont give them your real address, just make up a fake one.

The Perfect Enemy.. Fearmongering???

Ever get tired of hearing this argument about fearmongering? And Whos peacefull and whos not? We hear on one side that a certain group is peacefull but our OWN eyes tell us otherwise. Its like were being told to look away and to acknowledge it is too accept reality. The threat is real the only question is how serious you personally take it. Now yea your more than likely to die in a car wreck, or some other type of accident. None of these however will BRING ABOUT the fall of mankind.. War will come whether you want to fight or not its only a matter of time

If you see a guy pointing a gun at you do you pretend to not see it?

Anyway I actually made 2 vids but I did not want to post WH$#%RE so i combined them got a little lazy on the end part oh well.. Peace to the LL community. And for all the people I know on here hope you had/having a great weekend.

Peace to the allies and Shalom to the enemies :)

Why do they use children to push their agenda? Because children can be made to believe or to say absolutely anything. Children trust adults and don't realize when they're being exploited.

Children and cute little polar bears are used because Global Warming has to be pushed with emotion. Why? Because the "science" isn't enough.
