<title>Our Moral Decline: Blood-Lust in the Streets of Libya Suffices For Justice</title>

      <description>Patrick Henningsen
Infowars.com
October 20, 2011

It appears that Libya's former leader Muammar Gaddafi may have been handed down his final verdict by NATO rebels, but it's perhaps an even more bloody awful fate already suffered by a morally detached western civilization.

The man who liberated his country from the tyrannical monarchy of King Idris back in 1969... was tried and sentenced by bullet today.

Gaddafi modeled himself after Omar Mukhtar , The Lion of the Desert, the only other man who has led a genuine, independent Libyan resistance, fighting against a brutal Italian colonization in 1927. Yet, our media tell us it's just another dead tyrant.

This has become the new narrative in the US and western Europe now, where foreign leaders and other non-state actors with brown skin are given lengthy trials through press briefings by suited politicians in places like Washington, London and Paris, echoed by the corporate media until an antagonist is born for public consumption.

Following the White House's comical staged hoax of SEAL Team 6's gallant raid on long-dead Osama bin Laden, and with no evidence to show it actually happened other than President Obama's TV speeches- we get the next public assassination. After all, Obama's far-fetched tale of the bin-Laden mission somehow vindicated all those innocent lives ruined by US incarceration and outright torture of thousands of young men since the War on Terror officially began in 2001.

Al Jazeera will no doubt play the shaky cell phone video of the man being stripped and dragged through the streets of Sirte by the NATO rebel mob. Somehow they believe, Gaddafi's brutal post-mortem will vindicate their careless efforts and somehow make right the thousands of innocents who have perished- so that Libya can finally become part of the globalist, debt-based, neoliberal economic IMF system.

The west and its banking elite have nothing left to plunder other than middle class pension funds and incomes, so it is relying on countries in the east and south in order to refill its sadly diminishing coffers.

The same treatment was given to Iraq's Saddam Hussein. Like Gaddafi and Osama bin Laden, he worked hand in hand with America's CIA and Britain's MI6 in order to help western intelligence agencies achieve their operational goals, and thus the foreign policy objectives of the US, Great Britain and Israel. Grainy cell phone videos of Saddam's circus execution somehow vindicated those in the west who liquidated so many innocent Iraqi lives since 1991, and arguably before.

This is the new trend in dispensing due process, in a declining western civilization where blood-lust suffices for justice.

After the protracted media trials of both Slobodan Milosevic and Saddam Hussein, globalist power-brokers will never allow their war criminals to stand trial and spill the beans on all their dirty little secrets.

Over the last few decades, both Americans and western Europeans have become well-trained media consumers, and absorb their talking points much in the same way that grade school children dutifully repeat after their teachers and walk in single file. As adults, their teachers are CNN, FOX, the BBC, and the newest addition to the state information corps, US CENTCOM's own Al Jazeera. None of them have any genuine moral or ethical perspective left in their editorial vision. The corporate networks will reserve any real humanitarian compassion for a handful of trapped miners, baby seals, missing Caucasian children and Amanda Knox.

Our new teachers have taught the dutifully-minded among us that when the mob labels a head of state or non-state actor as a tyrant, then regime change must take place, and that this man deserves to die. They have taught us that one dead US soldier is worth more in headlines than 100 dead brown skinned Iraqis, Afghanis, Palestinians, or Libyans- women and children included. That is the overwhelming power of the 21st century media.

Will Libya have anything near the stability it enjoyed over the last 30 years? Will its people enjoy the mountain of state benefits available to them under the Gaddafi rein? Will Libyans be able to retain ownership of their country's bounty of natural resources, and see the state reinvesting its profits back into their country for the benefit of future generations?

History has taught us that the answer to each and every one of these questions is of course...no.

History has written all over the sands of the Maghreb of North Africa, and Libya in particular. It has always been under the thumb of one empire or another- from the Romans, the Spanish, the Vatican's Knights of Malta, the Ottomans, and Mussolini's Italy.

Libya's first brush with America came in the early 19th century, when war broke out between the United States and what was then referred to as Tripolitania, in what came to be known as the Barbary Wars . Only this time around the Barbary pirates are on the other side of the fighting, and they are known the world over by the name of 'NATO'.

It's only fitting that this latest chapter of history should be written as follows...

It was clear from day one that the Anglo-American empire, along with its clients like Qatar, were actively supporting and planning to bring destablization to the country. From the very first days of the civil war in Janurary 2011, before the shell casings had even hit the ground, western envoys and consultants worked with known al-Qaida fighters and criminals in Libya to form a new NTC government, a new central bank and a new state oil holding company. NATO were deployed to give brutal air support to these new gangs of rebel paramilitaries, and for nearly 10 months, both those groups killed, tortured, raped and looted everything in their path.

Meanwhile, offshore transnational corporations from the US, Europe and Qatar carved up the country's assets. Months followed years of instability, infighting and acts of internal retribution followed. The poor became poorer, the rich became richer, organized crime blossomed and thousands of middle class Libyans were allowed to immigrate to the UK, France and Italy.

This would come to be known as Libya's liberation.

What it means

The UN issued the citation, and NATO came in with the tow truck. Make no mistake, in the real world, NATO is the USA and the USA is NATO. It's a politically correct way of using military force without being seen to be acting alone as an imperial aggressor. But what about the NTC's death squads, the theft, the rape, the torture and destruction of citizens' property, business, and whole lives?

To pass the buck a little further, NATO's goals and end-game is handed over to Libya's NTC, this way everyone's asses are covered.

Politicans in Washington, London and Paris should be proud. They got everything they wanted, and with no dirt under their nails.

If no one in the US, UK, France, the UN or NATO's technicians of death are held accountable for the sacking and looting of Libya- the crime of the 21st century, then expect that they will simply move forward, and do it again, and again. So who's next? Syria?

There is no more moral highground, no more western values, no beliefs to use as a back-stop for western civilization.

Was Gaddafi guilty? Is that it, a bullet? He will never be afforded the same trial that anyone reading this article would expect as their god-given right. So what makes any among us believe that we deserve any of these so-called rights?

Who are we kidding?

<description>SIRTE, Libya - Libyan strongman Muammar Qaddafi has been captured, a Transitional National Council military commander said Thursday.

&quot; He has been captured. He is badly wounded, but he is still breathing,&quot; Mohamed Leith told AFP, adding that he saw Qaddafi himself and that he was wearing a khaki uniform and a turban.

Qaddafi was said to be wounded in both legs, according to Reuters, which said he was detained near Sirte.

Libyan TV channel Libya lil Ahrar also said that he was in custody.

However,  the TNC's UK spokesman, Mahmoud Nacua, warned that there was &quot;not enough information&quot; to confirm Qaddafi's capture, and a former TNC spokesman in  Britain , Guma al Gamati told Sky News that &quot;this is not confirmed.&quot;

Sirte, Qaddafi's hometown and the last bastion of his supporters, was the last holdout against TNC forces. The town's capture, which both military officials and new regime political sources said was expected later Thursday, would pave the way for the TNC to officially take control of Libya and move its headquarters away from its Benghazi stronghold in the east to the capital, Tripoli.

<description>(March 26) A distraught Libyan woman stormed into a Tripoli hotel Saturday to tell foreign reporters that government troops raped her, setting off a brawl when hotel staff and government minders tried to detain her. Journalists badly beaten too.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
BENGHAZI, LIBYA - The mother of a woman who burst into a Tripoli hotel and said that she had been raped by government militiamen hailed her daughter as a hero Sunday and said government officials offered her money and a house to change her story.

Libyan government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said Sunday night that Obaidi had been freed from government custody and was at home in Tripoli with her sister and brother-in-law. Her parents lacked communications with the sister and could not confirm that she had been released.

The incident highlighted the difficulty of gaining accurate information in a city where authorities go to great lengths to prevent journalists from talking to ordinary Libyans, forbidding them to leave their hotels without a government minder.

On Saturday, Obaidi attempted to break through that barrier by slipping into the Rixos hotel in Tripoli, where the foreign media corps is staying, and confronting journalists at the breakfast buffet.

Disheveled, weeping, bleeding and bruised, she shouted that she had been raped by 15 militiamen after being detained at a checkpoint because she comes from the eastern city of Benghazi, the epicenter of the revolt against Moammar Gaddafi's regime.

Before she could finish her story, security guards and government minders, waiters and waitresses overpowered her, and she was taken away in an unmarked car.

<description>In Saudi Arabia the labor minister recently remarked that 86 percent of the jobs done by the eight million foreign workers in the country are not suitable for Saudis. This includes many sanitation and personal service jobs. But that's six million jobs and expatriates, especially those from the West, commented (among themselves, not to Saudis) that most of these jobs were done, in the West, by Westerners. Some of the expats noted that Westerners doing their own dirty work were usually well paid for it, but in some countries legal or illegal migrants were let in to do the unpleasant jobs for lower wages. This is what the Saudis do, and they then take some of the money saved to pay for the generous unemployment benefits for Saudis who cannot find suitable work. The resulting high unemployment rate worries government officials, especially in the case of the foreigners doing highly technical jobs in the oil industry, defense or handling finances. This has led to the Saudization program in the early 1980s. This program has had little success for several reasons. First, businesses are allowed to pay foreigners less than what Saudis will work for. Second, there are a lot of &quot;dirty&quot; jobs that Saudis will not or cannot (because they are women) take. Third, not a lot of Saudis are qualified for the high-skill jobs where the government is particularly anxious to replace foreigners with Saudis. The lack of skills has to do with the education system, which is largely controlled by Islamic conservatives. Technical subjects are downplayed and religious studies emphasized. Young Saudis are encouraged to concentrate in religious studies in college. Many students go along with this, in part because it's a lot easier than majoring in science or engineering. Then there's the work ethnic, which is not nearly as good as seen in foreigners. This is in part a self-inflicted problem. Since all of the oil states in Arabia are monarchies, the rulers quickly found that the most effective way to remain in power was to keep their subjects pampered and happy. In other words, spread the oil money around and pay attention to public opinion. Most of the public backs the use of foreigners and the continued use of oil money to make life easy for the locals.

For example foreign workers are brought in to handle most jobs (like training pilots and maintaining weapons) that require high skill levels, a lot of effort, and lots of experience. This importation of foreign experts for piloting warplanes and maintaining them is very common in the Arab oil nations because the locals tend to avoid heavy physical or mental labor. While many Arab men see being a fighter pilot as glamorous and worthy of some effort, the training required discourages most who attempt it. Some Gulf Arab states insist that Arabs occupy those fighter plane cockpits but foreign trainers and maintainers are ordered to do what has to be done to keep the pilots alive and the planes in one piece. Pilot skill and capability has a lower priority.

It's not just Saudi Arabia that is having these problems. Last year, in the wake of the rebellion that overthrew the Kaddafi dictatorship, a lot of Libyans found themselves out of work. The unemployment rate was believed to be about 30 percent. Yet there are over a million foreign workers in Libya, and a million government employees. The foreigners comprise 20 percent of the population, and nearly half the workforce. There are plenty of jobs for Libyans, but most of the jobs require work most Libyans will not do. As a result, most of the jobs are held by foreigners, often illegal immigrants from Egypt and other African nations to the south. The revolution is unlikely to change this.

This is not an unusual situation in the Arab oil states. In Saudi Arabia, the unemployment rate is 12 percent, but many of those men are unemployed by choice. Arabs tend to have a very high opinion of themselves and most jobs available to poorly educated young men, do not satisfy. Thus most Saudis, and Libyans, prefer a government job, where the work is easy, the pay is good, the title is flattering, and life is boring. In the non-government sector of the economy, 90 percent of the Saudi jobs are taken by foreigners. These foreigners comprise 27 percent of the Saudi population, mostly to staff all the non-government jobs. This means most young Saudi men have few challenges. One might say that many of them are desperate for some test of their worth, and a job in the competitive civilian economy does not do it. Thus al Qaeda appealed to this by urging Saudi men to come to Iraq and fight for Islam. Since few of the volunteers had any fighting skills, most arrived and were talked into being suicide bombers.

The Saudi employment situation is not unique. The UAE (United Arab Emirates) has foreigners occupying 99 percent of the non-government jobs. The unemployment rate is 23 percent, but only a tenth of those are actually looking for a job. A survey indicated that most of the unemployed are idle by choice. Kuwait is more entrepreneurial, with only 80 percent of the non-government jobs taken by foreigners. The other Gulf Arab states (which have less oil) have a similar situation.

This problem is recognized by Saudi leaders, who realize that the oil will eventually run out and if there are no other economic activities providing jobs, it will be a social and political disaster. The government is trying to change attitudes and change education policy, but is running into a lot of resistance from Islamic conservatives and indolent young Saudis who do not want to give up the good life for hard work and responsibility. Many women would like to take some of those job opportunities, but Saudi Arabia abides by relatively recent customs that prohibit women from working outside the home. Before the oil wealth became a factor 60 years ago, women were very active in the economy. Even the early growth of Islam was financed by a wealthy female merchant, who was also the wife of the prophet Mohammed. Despite all that, the conservative clergy insist that the women stay home.

<title>Russia NOT the West supplying missiles to FSA</title>

<description>Syrian rebels appear to have Russian SA-24 shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles. At least that's what recent photos from Syria appear to show. Syrian rebels have kept their cause in the news, at least on the Internet, by sending a constant stream of cell phone photos and videos. Some of the recent videos indicate rebel fighters carrying Russian SA-24 missiles. Actually, they might be SA-14, SA-16, or SA-18 missiles in some cases. Whatever missile they have, this is bad news for the Syrian Air Force and apparently accounts for the recent change in tactics. That is, the Syrians are staying at higher altitudes which make their unguided bombs even less accurate.

Syrian rebels have been seen with these portable missiles for several months now but until recently these were all believed to be older SA-7 missiles captured from Syrian troops. SA-24s have never been seen outside of government control until recently (when they were spotted in Gaza). This happened earlier this year, Israel spotted some of the 480 Russian Igla-S (SA-24) missiles that had been sold to Libya and stolen from military warehouses during the rebellion there last year. Older SA-7s were taken as well. Some SA-7s and SA-24s have shown up in Gaza in the hands of Islamic terrorist group Hamas. Most Israeli and NATO helicopters and aircraft are equipped with missile detection and protection (lasers or flares) systems. Such systems on Israeli AH-64 helicopter gunships operating over Gaza are thought to have defeated several SA-24 attacks in the last year but, unlike the recent attack, there was no photographic proof.

Last year Russia supplied Libyan missile serial numbers, which were distributed to counter-terrorism officials worldwide with the admonition to be vigilant. Apparently the SA-24 thieves sold many of the SA-24s to Iran, which in turn gave some to Hamas and Hezbollah (another Iran backed Islamic terror group in Lebanon). Hezbollah has been operating in Syria but there's no reason for them to have SA-24s with them (unless their commanders believed all the Iranian and Russian media reports that the rebels are supported by Israel and the United States, such assistance possibly including air support). No Middle Eastern or NATO country has bought SA-24s (only Brazil, Libya, Russia, Slovenia, Venezuela, and Vietnam have). The new Libyan government may have recovered some of the SA-24s its predecessor (Kaddafi) bought and shipped them to the rebels (along with the many other weapons Libya has been sending the rebels). Wherever they came from, there is little doubt that the SA-24s are there.

The SA-24 entered service eight years ago and is considered one of the most dangerous Russian portable anti-aircraft missiles. The SA-24 is a post-Cold War upgrade of a design that was introduced at the same time as the American Stinger. SA-24 weighs 19 kg (42 pounds) and fires a 11.7 kg (26 pound) missile for up to 6,000 meters (19,000 feet). The 14.3 kg Stinger fires its 10.1 kg missile out to 8,000 meters, but both systems have similar resistance to countermeasures and a warhead of about the same size (2-3 kg/4.4-6.6 pounds). The SA-24 in the hands of terrorists could bring down helicopters and airliners taking off. The SA-24 is a heat seeker but it does not just go for the engine exhaust but rather any part of the aircraft. This makes the SA-24 more dangerous because if they just go for the engine exhaust these missiles often do little damage.

Then there are the other Russian missiles seen in Syria. The SA-14 is 1.52 meters (4.7 feet) long, weighs 15.9 kg (35 pounds), and has a max range of 4,100 meters. It can't hit anything above 2,300 meters (7,100 feet) and has a 1.36 kg (3 pound) warhead. It entered service in 1974, and is called the Strela-3 by the Russians. The primary advantage of the SA-14 over the SA-7 is improved reliability and a better sensor, which can more easily defeat countermeasures. The SA-18 entered service in 1980, and the SA-16 three years later (yeah, that appears out of sequence but that's a long story). Both are incremental improvements on the SA-14 and roughly the same size and weight. The current version of the SA-7 weighs 15 kg (33 pounds) has a max range of 4,000 meters and max altitude of 2,300 meters.

Against jet fighters or large transports with powerful engines, the missiles that just home in on heat cause some damage to the tailpipe but usually fail to bring down the jet. This was first noted during the 1973 Arab-Israeli war where the Egyptians fired hundreds of SA-7s at Israeli A-4 light bombers. Most of the A-4s, with their 11,187 pounds of thrust engines, survived the encounter. Larger jets, like the F-4 and its 17,000 pound thrust engines, were even more difficult to bring down when only the engine exhaust was targeted. Smaller commercial jets, like the 737 or DC-9 (each using two 14,000 pounds of thrust engines) have proved vulnerable. But a 757 has much larger engines with 43,000 pounds of thrust and the 747 is 63,000. Moreover, the rear ends of jet engines are built to take a lot of punishment from all that hot exhaust spewing out. Put a bird into the front of the engine and you can do some real damage. But these older missiles homed in on heat and all of that is at the rear end of the engine. Since the 1970s, about 40 commercial aircraft have been brought down by Russian portable anti-aircraft missiles (usually older SA-7s), killing over 500 people. But more recent missile designs go for any part of the aircraft, although engine heat is still used to find the aircraft.
