"I never told these people they could use my name for this," Charles Ramsey said in a written statement released through attorney, Patricia Walker. The restaurant where Ramsey worked as a dishwasher initially created a special burger named his honor, called the Ramsey Burger. Then more than a dozen area eateries had decided a larger tribute was due. Ramsey said he doesn't endorse the northeast Ohio restaurants that are offering burgers bearing the Ramsey name, or that are promoting a lifetime of free burgers for him. The owner of the restaurant group said in a statement Friday evening that it will drop the burger from the menu, The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer reported. "We are saddened to hear that Chuck did not take this - or the offer of so many Cleveland restaurants to give him free meals - in the spirit we intended," Scott Kuhn of the Driftwood Restaurant Group said in a statement, the newspaper reported. Ramsey was called a hero after helping Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight break out of the house May 6. Homeowner Ariel Castro faces charges. His defense team has said he will plead not guilty. The statement from Ramsey's attorney said he has not authorized any merchandise. "Ramsey encourages people to do things that will help the victims," the statement said. It's unclear whether Ramsey would be accepting free burgers. Local McDonald's franchisees in Ramsey's neighborhood have offered him complimentary food at their restaurants for the next year, a spokeswoman for Oak Brook, Ill.-based McDonald's Corp. confirmed Thursday. Ramsey had noted in an interview with a local TV station that he was eating McDonald's when the scene unfolded. He also spoke of it in a 911 call. Since his first interview on local TV, Ramsey, a dishwasher at a Cleveland restaurant, has become an Internet sensation. The restaurant produced a t-shirt with Ramsey's face and the words "Cleveland Hero" on the front, netting $21,000 for a fund set up for the women, who were held captive for about a decade. Ramsey was not available for comment on Thursday. He has had brushes with the law in the past, including domestic violence convictions. Amanda Berry, her six-year-old daughter, and two other women, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight, were discovered in the house of former school bus driver Ariel Castro on May 6. In 1936, United Auto Workers members occupied a General Motors factory in Flint, MI, beginning what came to be known as the Flint Sit-Down Strike. The action led to the organizing of the automotive industry and helped spur the modern labor movement in the United States. Today, workers are striking in Michigan once again, but the picket line isn't in front of an automotive factory. Following surprise strikes in New York, Chicago and, earlier this week, St. Louis, fast-food workers across Detroit walked off the job today, demanding the right to form a union and a base-pay rate of $15 per hour. The growing momentum of these fast-food strikes suggests that a new approach to labor actions may be gaining traction and proving successful. Rather than waiting until they've built support from a majority of a store's or company's workers, they stage actions by a minority of the workforce designed to inspire their co-workers. Rather than publicly identifying the campaign and its organizers with a single international union, these union-funded efforts turn to allied community groups to spearhead organizing. Rather than training all their resources on a single company, they organize against all of the industry's players at once. This strike may be taking place in Michigan, but the tactics couldn't be more different than those of the UAW. Today, speaking from his Princess Alexandra Hospital, he said: "Tell the kids out there to tell your parents if you find anything unusual. Just don't pick it up at all.""If you ever find anything with white powder in it with bearings in it, do not pick it up. It is a bomb.""I had no idea it was a bomb. It just blew up in my face", Michael said. "The tiniest powder, right, it goes into a huge flame. Right. And that was a golf ball, packed."He said the blast happened after he went to a nearby house with friends."Basically we all went around there.
