The U.S census Bureau no longer considers "Hispanic" or "Latino" a race but a "cultural heritage" So now what will you circle in.. Black, White, Asian, or Native American....The entire South American people and including Mexican Americans are confused. Will they circle Native Americans or choose the other three racial groups?

Brown people of Mexican descent I hope all of you are circling in Native American, you owe it to your ancestors to honor your indigenous blood.

Yet another short chip from Werner Herzog 's excellent documentary ' Happy People: A Year in the Taiga .'

Springtime in the Taiga. Russian trappers and Ket natives alike are getting ready for the coming winter, though it's still only early days.

Some Ket men build a dugout canoe the old fashioned way, an unfortunately dying art.

Plenty of fishing and building from all of them - Spring and Summer is short in Siberia, but the Winter is long, so everybody rushes to get things in order.

Lacking proper insect repellant, the resourceful residents of the Taiga make their own in an ancient manner by producing a tar/oil from birch bark that mosquitoes despise.

So the trapper's skis don't get quite finished yet, but they're finished in time for winter.

Far away across the ocean,

Far beyond the sea's eastern rim,

Lives a man who is father of the Indo-Chinese people,

And his name it is Ho Chi Minh.

/: Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh :/

From VietBac to the SaiGon Delta

From the mountains and plains below

Young and old workers, peasants and the toiling tenant farmers

Fight for freedom with Uncle Ho.

/: Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh :/

Now Ho Chi Minh was a deep sea sailor

He served his time out on the seven seas

Work and hardship were part of his early education

Exploitation his ABC.

/: Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh :/

Now Ho Chi Minh came home from sailing

And he looked out on his native land

Saw the want and the hunger of the Indo-Chinese people

Foreign soldiers on every hand.

/: Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh :/

Now Ho Chi Minh went to the mountains

And he trained a determined band

Heroes all, sworn to liberate the Indo-Chinese people

Drive invaders from the land.

/: Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh :/

Fourteen men became a hundred

A hundred thousand and Ho Chi Minh

Forged and tempered the army of the Indo-Chinese people

Freedom's Army of Viet Minh.

/: Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh :/

Every soldier is a farmer

Comes the evening and he grabs his hoe

Comes the morning he swings his rifle on his shoulder

This the army of Uncle Ho.

/: Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh,

Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Minh :/

From the mountains and the jungles

From the ricelands and the Plain of Reeds

March the men and the women of the Indo-Chinese Army

Planting freedom with vict'ry seeds.

Saudi Arabia's Kingdom Tower will be taller at 3000 feet, but it won't be complete until 2018 -ed

When Forest City Ratner broke ground on the first of its apartment buildings at Atlantic Yards, a 32-story tower at Atlantic Avenue and Dean Street, it was poised to be "the world's tallest prefabricated, or modular, building," according to The New York Times.

But it one crazy Chinese developer makes good on his word, next month that record will be shattered: Broad Sustainable Building says it will begin work on its 220-story, 838-meter (about 2,750 feet) prefabricated tower, which they're calling Sky City, next month, according to Treehugger.

Economically, the building makes absolutely no sense. It will feature over 11 million square feet (or is it 13 million? The facts for this project always seem to be in flux) of floorspace in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province. With more than 7 million inhabitants, Changsha is by no means a small city, but density like this could only possibly pencil out in the densest and most valuable of city cores. And yet, the project appears to be sited outside of the city center, surrounded by acres of open green space.

When the building got a flurry of press last year, we assumed it was just a publicity stunt. BSB did manage to build a 30-story tower in 15 days, so they're not total charlatans, but they did encounter a fair amount of skepticism.

"I don't think it's possible to build as quickly as they claim," structural engineer Bart Leclercq, who's worked on a number of skyscrapers for WSP Middle East, told Middle East Architect. "If they manage to build this structure in three months then I will give up structural engineering. I will hang my hat and retire. I will be eating humble pie as well."

Luckily, Mr. Leclercq won't have to do that: the developers have quietly rolled the time frame back to seven months of construction (or is it six?). Check out the promotional video above.

(And some friendly to BSB: hire some native speakers to do your English-language marketing. The Observer would be happy to offer our services in exchange for a high-floor penthouse. But don't try to stick us with any of those two-digit floors-we know you can do better.)

This is just a fun video I made of my quest for the first Lychee I picked from our Orchard this year

Health Benefits of Lychee Fruit
Lychee a Small But Powerful Berry

Lychee, translated from Chinese as 'gift for a joyful life', surely lives up to its name. The lychee fruit contains vitamins and minerals that promote a healthy diet, it is sweet and delicious and it has been enjoyed joyfully by natives of southeast Asia for centuries.

Lychee A Symbol of Romance and Love

The health benefits of thee fruit has been tried, proven and touted in countries such as China, India and Indonesia, so much so that lychee made its way into ancient Chinese legend. It is believed that the Emperor of the Tang Dynasty would dispatch royal guards some 600 miles to pick lychee in an effort to woo his favorite concubine, to entice her with the sweet, fragrant flesh of the lychee fruit. Today, the lychee fruit in China as a result of such legend, is now a symbol of romance and love.

Anyone who eats the lychee fruit immediately falls in love with it. But if the fact that lychee is so delicious doesn't not convince you to try it, maybe hearing some of the health benefits of lychee will make you give this tropical fruit a second look.

Clinical Studies

Two studies done conclude that the lychee fruit prevents the growth of cancer cells. Lychee contains flavonoids in its pulp which prove very effective against breast cancer in particular. The Zhejiang Gonshang

University and the West China Hospital at Sichuan University in China conducted the studies. So this little fruit that resembles a strawberry can help to protect your body against cancer.

Another health benefit of the lychee fruit is that it is a great source of vitamin C, a vitamin that the body does not produce naturally. Vitamin C helps the body to fight heart disease and cancer. Vitamin C is good for our bones, skin and tissue, and therefore is a very important vitamin to our overall good health.

Through the high content vitamin C content of the lychee fruit, the fruit benefits those suffering from colds, fevers and sore throats. Lychee also helps the body to digest food properly for the best nutrition and an added boost of health.

Lychee, the Chinese believe, also has the ability to relieve pain and shrink swollen glands. People in China treat these symptoms with the lychee fruit using ancient Chinese medicines and they attest to its powers even though there are currently no studies out there that give scientific weight to this argument.

Along with these health benefits lychee also contains phosphorous, calcium, magnesium and protein. Though the lychee fruit is native to Asia, the popularity and reputation of the fruit as a healthful fruit has contributed to the commercial growth of lychee trees in California and Florida. Lychee can be found in Asian supermarkets in cans or dried or they are found in jellies, jams, marmalades or sauces in Asian cuisine.

to all the taiwanese who's overreacting on the recent incident of a filipino(cg) shooting a taiwanese for intruding inside philippine territory allegedly trying to ram a philippine coastguard.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over 10 Pinoy workers in Taiwan accuse employer of abuse(old news)

Over 10 Filipino workers of a glass company in Taiwan accused their
employer of abusing them and forcing them to work in harsh conditions at
the company's factory in Taoyuan County, a report of Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) said.

The Filipino workers of Taiwan Glass Industry Corp. said they were
forced to work for 12 hours a day in temperatures of up to 60 degrees
Celsius, the CNA report said on Monday.
The workers also claimed that their shifts were changed frequently, as often as 12 times a month.

They also alleged that NT$4,000 (P5,750) was deducted from the monthly
pay for accommodation and means although they felt they were constantly
underfed.
They said they were not given hot
showers during the winter in their dormitories and did not have
air-conditioning in the summer.
			 			The
Filipino workers also accused the company of keeping their passports,
not paying them extra for working overtime, and not giving them pay
slips with information in their own language.

Representatives of the Taiwan International Workers Association were
quoted in the CNA report as saying a Filipino worker named Michael was
found dead in a company dormitory April 16.

He died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. A preliminary
investigation by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office ruled out
overwork, it said.

	 Company denies claims

Meanwhile, Taiwan Glass Industry Corp. denied some of the claims,
saying that while there was room for improvement in its working
conditions, it could not accept some of the accusations.

Among the charges it felt were "exaggerated" were claims by the
workers that they were underfed, did not have access to hot showers in
the winter or air-conditioning in the summer and were forced to work in
temperatures reaching as high as 60 degrees Celsius.

The company emphasized hot showers and air-conditioning in employee
dormitories are available and workers are given three meals a day.

It also said that while some parts of its production facility are
exposed to high temperatures, those areas are equipped with air
conditioning to keep the heat down.
		 			As to
claims that a Filipino worker named Michael might have died due to the
harsh environment, it said its initial findings were not consistent with
that claim.
		 			The company said it contacted
the Council of Labor Affairs and the local police station after Michael
was found unconscious in his dorm room on April 16.

The company said in a statement that since it was established 47 years
ago and started hiring foreign workers in 1993, the company has treated
all employees properly and equally.

			 Deeper probe

Lin Shih-teng, a section chief at the Bureau of Employment and
Vocational Training under the Council of Labor Affairs, said inspectors
from the county's Labor and Human Resources Bureau conduct regular
inspections at the factory every three months.

She said the last inspection on March 8 was favorable, but vowed to
inquire more deeply into the matter following the complaints made by the
workers.
Also, she said she will ask
the company to make hot showers available to employees, and to provide
pay slips with explanations written in the workers' native languages.

The CNA report quoted her as saying that if improvements are not made
within a given time, the company will be fined up to NT$300,000 and have
its foreign worker quota reduced. - JLA/VVP, GMA News

Fed up, RNC's Fla Hispanic outreach director becomes Democrat

Presumably few Republican operatives have a better handle on the national Republican party's efforts to court Hispanic voters than Pablo Pantoja, a native of Puerto Rico, and Florida State University alum appointed by the Republican National Committee to oversee H ispanic outreach in Florida last year . He also worked as a field director in the 2010 midterm elections.

Now - amid another debate over immigration reform and a widely touted Heritage foundation study on immigrants touted by a fellow who used to argue that Hispanics have a lower IQ than non-Hispanic immigrants - Pantojo has decided he's more comfortable joining the Democratic party.

Here's an email he sent today:

Friend,

Yes, I have changed my political affiliation to the Democratic Party.

It doesn't take much to see the culture of intolerance surrounding the Republican Party today. I have wondered before about the seemingly harsh undertones about immigrants and others. Look no further; a well-known organization recently confirms the intolerance of that which seems different or strange to them.

Studies geared towards making - human beings - viewed as less because of their immigrant status to outright unacceptable claims, are at the center of the immigration debate. Without going too deep on everything surrounding immigration today, the more resounding example this past week was reported by several media outlets.

A researcher included as part of a past dissertation his theory that "the totality of the evidence suggests a genetic component to group differences in IQ." The researcher reinforces these views by saying "No one knows whether Hispanics will ever reach IQ parity with whites, but the prediction that new Hispanic immigrants will have low-IQ children and grandchildren is difficult to argue against."

Although the organization distanced themselves from those assertions, other immigration-related research is still padded with the same racist and eugenics-based innuendo. Some Republican leaders have blandly (if at all) denied and distanced themselves from this but it doesn't take away from the culture within the ranks of intolerance. The pseudo-apologies appear to be a quick fix to deep-rooted issues in the Republican Party in hopes that it will soon pass and be forgotten.

The complete disregard of those who are in disadvantage is also palpable. We are not looking at an isolated incident of rhetoric or research. Others subscribe to motivating people to action by stating, "In California, a majority of all Hispanic births are illegitimate. That's a lot of Democratic voters coming." The discourse that moves the Republican Party is filled with this anti-immigrant movement and overall radicalization that is far removed from reality. Another quick example beyond the immigration debate happened during CPAC this year when a supporter shouted ""For giving him shelter and food for all those years?" while a moderator explained how Frederick Douglass had written a letter to his slave master saying that he forgave him for "all the things you did to me." I think you get the idea.

When the political discourse resorts to intolerance and hate, we all lose in what makes America great and the progress made in society.

Although I was born an American citizen, I feel that my experience, and that of many from Puerto Rico, is intertwined with those who are referred to as illegal. My grandfather served in an all-Puerto Rican segregated Army unit, the 65th Infantry Regiment. He then helped, along my grandmother, shatter glass ceilings for Puerto Rican women raising my aunt to become the first Puerto Rican woman astronomer with a PhD in astrophysics (an IQ of a genius as far as I'm concerned). Puerto Ricans, as many other Americans still today have to face issues of discrimination in voting and civil rights.

Regardless of what political affiliation people choose, my respect for some remains. I don't expect all Hispanics to do the same (although I would hope so) but I'm taking a stand against this culture of intolerance.

I am also making a modest contribution (here: http://bit.ly/12uf3g8) to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for the efforts in helping protect the rights of immigrants and civil liberties in general.

With warm regards,

-pablo

Hello everyone, today I would like to taste the Durian fruit. It is native in southeast Asian, and it is widely known for having a very bad smell. I've seen Andrew Zimmern on the Travel Channel attempt to eat Durian, and he was not able to. I was really surprised, because he can he almost anything on this Earth. I expected Durian to taste really disgusting, however it did not taste bad at all. I would recommend trying it if you ever had the chance.

I bought the 5 Pound Durian for $11.50 in Middletown, NJ, visit the website: http://www.asianfoodmarkets.com/
