Jay Devereaux hadn't paid much attention to the daily drumbeat of partisan politics in D.C. He wasn't a Washington nerd, and didn't know who said what during congressional hearings -- nor did he care.

But when news broke that the government was using taxpayer money to bail out Wall Street banks, he started paying attention and didn't like what he was hearing.

So the Florida father and information technology specialist decided to form a group, Unite in Action, to educate people in his area about the issues, he said. It was originally formed as a corporation before Devereaux decided to apply for tax-exempt status from the IRS.

That was two years ago. It was never approved.

"It's all but killed us," Devereaux told FoxNews.com. "We could lose everything. Today, it's me and my organization, but tomorrow it could be you."

Devereaux is among a group of activists, being represented by the American Center for Law and Justice, who are preparing to sue the federal government for the practice of targeting Tea Party groups. ACLJ Executive Director Jordan Sekulow told FoxNews.com he'll likely file the civil suits next Wednesday or Thursday on behalf of more than a dozen Tea Party groups who say they were singled out by the IRS and had their tax-exempt status severely delayed or denied altogether.

The suits, combined with congressional inquiries and an FBI probe, signal that the heated hearing on Capitol Hill Friday - with the outgoing IRS chief - was just the start of a protracted legal and political battle over the scandal.

Sekulow said the number of plaintiffs in the civil suit are growing as is the list of who his organization wants held accountable. It's still unclear whether the organization will file as a class-action or individually in the 17 different states where the complaints originate.

Litigation could take months or years and for some like Devereaux, time isn't on their side.

While initially waiting for IRS approval, Devereaux dipped into his own bank account, maxed out credit cards and even borrowed money from friends so his group could put on a civic-engagement training session at the Omni Shoreham hotel in Washington. His goal was to eventually set up a steady stream of revenue for a tax-exempt nonprofit.

The next time Devereaux heard from the IRS, they had requested details and credentials on every single speaker and all the educational materials provided in the 78 classes held at the hotel. The IRS also wanted information on all 45 vendors, their credentials and a donor list.

Devereaux refused.

Five rounds of IRS letters later, and United in Action's tax-exempt status is still in limbo.

If they are denied, Devereaux's group would owe the federal government "somewhere in the neighborhood of $70,000 in back taxes," he said, referring to money he would owe the government on donations.

"It's more than we have in our bank account," he said.

He's not alone.

Waco Tea Party President Toby Walker said her group applied for a 501(c)(4) status in July 2010. She'd call the IRS from time to time to check on the progress but was basically told, 'Don't call us, we'll call you,' she said.

Then in February 2012, the IRS finally made contact.

Walker said she was asked questions that went well beyond the purview of the agency's authority. They wanted to know everything about the Waco Tea Party group, their relationships with public officials, lists of volunteers and every single news story the group had ever been mentioned in.

Walker said the request was so lengthy and intrusive that had she complied with the demands, she "would have needed a U-haul truck of about 20 feet."

While Walker's group was finally granted tax-exempt status in March 2013, she said a lot of damage has already been done. She said people were afraid to support her group financially because they had not received the IRS-stamped status.

Others were afraid that they might be targeted by the IRS if they supported Walker's group publicly. Having one of the most powerful government agencies angry at them wasn't a risk many people were willing to take. And so the group suffered, she said.

"We spent thousands of our own dollars fighting this," she said. "If this happens to one organization in America, we should all be outraged."

Allegations that the IRS had been targeting conservative groups that applied for tax-exempt status date back years but a government report released Wednesday backed up the claims. The White House has spent most of the week trying to contain the fallout from the scandal. "Americans are right to be angry about it, and I am angry about it," President Obama said earlier this week.

By Friday, two of the agency's top tax officials had been removed from their posts. One, outgoing acting IRS commissioner Steven Miller, was grilled Friday morning in the House Ways and Means Committee by Republican and Democratic lawmakers who demanded answers on why the unfair practice of targeting conservative groups was allowed to continue on his watch.

An epic meltdown on Facebook ,
following a disastrous appearance on "Kitchen Nightmares," put Amy's
Baking Company on the front page of numerous websites. The Facebook
rants went viral, but it turns out owners of Amy's -- Samy and Amy
Bouzaglo -- have a criminal past.

The Bouzaglos have a history of not reacting well to criticism. In an
incident from 2010, Amy insulted and attacked a Yelp reviewer who
panned her pizza and his meal, reports Phoenix's Chow Bella blog .
Amy's response included this rebuttal, "As for you having the Patio all
to yourself unless you have been living on another PLANET it is
summertime in ARIZONA MORON!!! Only TRAMPS and LOSERS want to sit
outside in 110 temperatures!!!!"
But in addition to not reacting well to criticism, it seems Amy of
Amy's Baking Company has been in trouble with the law. While Samy claims
to be a "mobster," his wife served 14 months in jail while paying
$36,294.95 in restitution for bank fraud.

According to the court documents filed in the United States District Court in Arizona ,
"On November 6, 2003, Ms. Bouzaglo (formerly known and identified in
this case as Ms. Bossingham), entered into a plea agreement with the
Government in which she pled guilty to one count of Misuse of a Social
Security Number, a class D felony offense. (Doc. 40). The criminal
conduct occurred on August 16, 2001. Specifically, Ms. Bouzaglo pled
guilty to submitting an application for a line of credit with M & I
Bank using the social security number of another person." Amy was
arrested on Oct. 11, 2002.
The court documents note Amy, following her conviction, had turned
her life around. During the time she committed bank fraud, she had just
lost her mother and was recently divorced. After being convicted, Amy
married Samy, distanced herself from past associates and established
Amy's Baking Company. The documents also note, "Ms. Bouzaglo donates her
time and money to various organizations, such as the St. Nicholas Youth
Organization and the Fraternal Order of Police. She is also very
involved in the Arizona Republican Party and volunteered numerous hours
of her time during the 2006 elections."
Amy's request for a modification of sentence was denied and she
served 14 months in jail, according to the court documents. As part of
the conviction, after jail Amy would have 36 months of supervised
release. The bank-fraud conviction occurred in 2001 and the court noted
she was serving four years of probation "by the Fourth Judicial District
for Colorado Springs for the similar offenses of Theft and Forgery."
Amy's Baking Company was the subject of Gordon Ramsay's "Kitchen
Nightmares" program. While the show sets out to help failing
restaurants, Ramsay had to part ways from Amy's as the owners refused to
believe they were in trouble. Following the episode airing, Amy's
Baking Company soon took to Facebook to right the wrongs of "Kitchen
Nightmares," leading to the viral Facebook posts. They, naturally,
claimed they were hacked.

by Tommy Christopher
9:25 am, May 17th, 2013
Last week, ABC News' Jon Karl reported on emails that he said he'd obtained ,
that purported to show the process involved in developing the talking
points on the September 11 attacks in Benghazi, Libya. Once CNN's Jake Tapper actually did obtain a real email , and the White House subsequently released the actual email chain , Karl's "emails" were revealed to be summaries, provided by a source, which contained invented quotes and significant omissions . On Thursday night's CBS Evening News , Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett reported that a Republican source was behind the invented quotes, which were also leaked to CBS News' Sharyl Attkisson , a fact that Karl did not disclose in his original report, or his followup, and which Attkisson did not disclose, either.
Anchor Scott Pelley began by noting that, at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Erdogan of Turkey, President Obama
"called for tighter security for U.S. diplomatic facilities to prevent
an attack like the one in Benghazi, Libya, last year that killed U.S.
Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans."
Pelley added, "Of course, Benghazi has become a political
controversy. Republicans claim that the Administration watered down the
facts in talking points that were given to U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice
for television appearances while Mr. Obama was running for reelection.
Republicans on Capitol Hill claim that they had found proof of this in
White House e-mails that they leaked to reporters last week. Well, it
turns out some of the quotes in those e-mails were wrong. Major Garrett
is at the White House for us tonight. Major?"
CBS News Chief White House Correspondent Major Garrett then reported
on the source of those invented quotes, and offered his analysis of
their effect on the Republican narrative. "Scott, Republicans have
claimed that the State Department under Hillary Clinton
was trying to protect itself from criticism," Major began. "The White
House released the real e-mails late yesterday and here's what we found
when we compared them to the quotes that had been provided by
Republicans. One e-mail was written by Deputy National Security Advisor
Ben Rhodes. On Friday, Republicans leaked what they said was a quote
from Rhodes. 'We must make sure that the talking points reflect all
agency equities, including those of the State Department, and we don't
want to undermine the FBI investigation.'"
"But it turns out, in the actual e-mail Rhodes did not mention the
State Department," he continued. "It read 'We need to resolve this in a
way that respects all the relevant equities, particularly the
investigation.' Republicans also provided what they said was a quote
from an e-mail written by State Department Spokesman Victoria Nuland.
The Republican version notes Nuland discussing 'the penultimate point is
a paragraph talking about all the previous warnings provided by the
Agency (CIA) about al-Qaeda's presence and activities of al-Qaeda.'"
"The actual e-mail from Nuland says 'the penultimate point could be
abused by Members to beat the State Department for not paying attention
to Agency warnings,'" Major said, adding "The CIA agreed with the
concerns raised by the State Department, and revised the talking points
to make them less specific than the CIA's original version, eliminating
references to al Qaeda and affiliates, and earlier security warnings."
Garrett concluded, "There is no evidence, Scott, the White House orchestrated these changes."

ABC News has, thus far, defended Karl's reporting as "consistent
with" the actual emails, and has not addressed the attribution issue, except to say that
""Karl's report could have been even clearer" that the reporting was
not based on the actual emails. This analysis by Major Garrett, as
respected and objective a journalist as there is, contradicts that
notion.
Here's the clip, from The CBS Evening News :

What kind of presidential candidate can we expect from Republicans in 2016?

2011 was a banner year in stupidity, craziness, and fright from the Republican Party. With seven candidates vying to be more conservative than each other, the atmosphere was perfect for insanity. Throughout the year, each candidate made comments that proved just how out of touch, ignorant, and dangerous the right wing has truly become. It's hard to choose which quotes to list but here are just 25, brought to you by Michele Bachmann, Mitt Romney, Herman Cain, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, and Newt Gingrich.

"They can get married. They can marry a man if they're a woman. Or they can marry a woman if they're a man."
~Michele Bachmann, on whether or not homosexuals can get married.

"The more toppings a man has on his pizza, I believe the more manly he is. A manly man don't want it piled high with vegetables! He would call that a sissy pizza."
~Herman Cain, on manliness. Too bad House Republicans declared pizza a vegetable, and therefore declared Cain, a sissy.

"Our nation needs to stop doing for people what they can and should do for themselves. Self reliance means, if anyone will not work, neither should he eat."
~Michele Bachmann, saying the unemployed should starve.

"Our Founding Fathers never meant for Washington, D.C. to be the fount of all wisdom. As a matter of fact they were very much afraid if that because they'd just had this experience with this far-away government that had centralized thought process and planning and what have you, and then it was actually the reason that we fought the revolution in the 16th century was to get away from that kind of onerous crown if you will."
~Rick Perry, incorrectly stating that the American Revolution occurred during the 1500s. It actually occurred in the 1770s and ended in 1781.

"One of the things I will talk about, that no president has talked about before, is I think the dangers of contraception in this country. It's not okay. It's a license to do things in a sexual realm that is counter to how things are supposed to be. is supposed to be within marriage. It's supposed to be for purposes that are yes, conjugal...but also procreative. That's the perfect way that a sexual union should happen...This is special and it needs to be seen as special."
~Rick Santorum, opposing contraception and frighteningly suggesting that he would love to make pre-marital sex illegal.

"There's no question at times of my life, partially driven by how passionately I felt about this country, that I worked far too hard and things happened in my life that were not appropriate."
~Newt Gingrich, blaming his many affairs on his patriotism.

Indiana Governor Rewards Private Prison Lobby with Draconian Marijuana Punishments

I have a new and self-imposed policy that I follow when I see a news report of some bull-headed politician proposing some law to put low-level drug possessors in prison. That rule? Follow the money, of course.Because something hideous is festering under the surface of these laws. It's the private prison lobby, which makes campaign contributions to secure harsher penalties. You see, these prison companies are in need of warm bodies, since they can put those people to work inside the walls of those prisons. The companies double-dip, too, pulling in a guaranteed sum from the state in addition to whatever they can make with their legalized slave labor. Weed offenders are just the sorts of people these prison profiteers are looking for. They're mostly non-violent people who will comply. They can be put to work without much worry.

This week, Indiana got into the mix, as its governor Mike Pence pushed for changes to legislation on drug crime. Among his suggested changes:

Tougher marijuana possession and dealing penalties could be added to a proposed overhaul of Indiana's criminal sentencing laws by legislators after Gov. Mike Pence questioned whether the plan was strict enough on low-level drug offenders. One proposed change expected to be voted on Thursday would make possession of between about one-third of an ounce and 10 pounds of marijuana the lowest-level felony rather than the highest-level misdemeanor.

Why would this Republican governor suggest policies designed mostly for the destruction of communities and budgets alike? Mostly because he and others are politically aligned with the very prison companies that run the show.
GEO Group is one of the largest private prison companies in the country. Based in Florida, GEO is a nationwide political player. It makes the majority of its contributions in its home state, but it's been known to contribute to federal and state elections in places like California, New Mexico, Virginia, and, believe it or not, Indiana.

Over the last decade, GEO Group has spent more than $3 million in direct campaign contributions, the majority of that money going to Republican candidates and causes. This is most likely on the low end of estimates, too, since many state contribution records are either incomplete or missing altogether.

Indiana is eighth on the list of states where GEO does its spending, as it's sunk more than $60,000 into state elections there. It specifically contributed $12,500 to the 2012 Pence campaign, which doesn't seem like much without context. That contribution made GEO one of Pence's top 30 corporate contributors, ranking in front of US Steel Corp, Caterpillar, and Koch Industries.

The group has also thrown its financial weight behind Brian Bosma, the Indiana State House Speaker, who has been quoted as saying:

"As an entry drug, I think marijuana is more powerful than it's given credit for," he said. "I know some states have taken that step (to legalize it), but I don't find it advisable at this point."Business has been quite good for GEO in Indiana. In 2005, they signed a contract to operate a prison in New Castle. That first contract reads like many that GEO signs with its depraved partners. Indiana guaranteed a prison population roughly 90% of capacity. Or, as the state's excited press release put it:
During the first year of operation, the 2,416-bed prison is expected to house approximately 1,068 security level 1-4 adult male inmates for the Indiana Department of Correction and generate approximately $12.8 million. Under the terms of the contract, GEO will be paid for a guaranteed average daily population of 961 inmates, or 90 per cent of the initial contract capacity, following a ramp-up period of approximately four weeks. Some might argue that private prison companies are worth it. After all, the private market is better equipped to handle things effectively and efficiently, right? Wrong :
State Police responded to the prison around 2 p.m., where inmates set fires outside the cell blocks.Mayor Tom Nipp described the situation as, "A full-scale riot." Nipp says police have set up a perimeter around the prison, assuring residents that no one has escaped.

Video taken by Chopper 13 shows inmates standing near small flames that appear to be mattresses set on fire.

The Indiana Department of Corrections confirms the disturbance involved prisoners from Indiana and prisoners from Arizona. Tear gas was used by correctional officers and State Police to gain control. Police moved hundreds of prisoners outside to an area along the outer fence line while cell blocks were searched for others involved in the riots.

The Indiana governor wants to make possession of small amounts of marijuana a felony because, apparently, we aren't nearly hard enough on those non-violent pot smokers. Or something. Lurking beneath the surface is an insidious actor. The unmentioned hand of political influence guides his actions, as prison corporations like GEO own their candidates and wreck state criminal codes.

yes yes this is a progressive news blog, however if you fact check, you will find no lies, propaganda here. only politicians who want to enslave you for a couple of bucks into their campaign.
governor mike pence is also getting rid of occupational license "eraser bill", claiming its too much regulation, and it slows job growth? right... next time you get your blood drawn in indiana, remember we don't believe in regulations/qualifications. Have you ever seen the classic republican, creepy this is good for you, ram this shit down your throat? yeah i'm tired of these scum.

This is one we got into a lot of trouble for. Filming the Costa Concordia, place of a tragic accident and controversy. TBS went in and filmed the repair works. Watch the ending for launch spot, and the beginning for the disclaimers.

This video was shot at the location of a tragic accident. It is not our interest to gain attention on the backs of those who have lost loved ones. This video is supposed to be a showcase for possible UAV applications. Our goal is to display the stranded ship in a never-before seen way. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who drowned on this day and we are hoping for a swift removal to reveal again the underlying beauty of Giglio Island, Italy.

Republican Congressman Louie Gohmert Defends His Asparagus. (No, Really.)

Things got heated and a bit insane, as they usually do, when Rep.
Louie Gohmert (R-TX) got miffed when Attorney General Eric Holder rather
politely told Gohmert he didn't know what he was talking about, and
that he should refrain some stating as fact what were only Gohmert's
conjectures on what may or may not have occurred. The confontation
happened during a House Judiciary hearing into the Boston Bombing.
Gohmert was disparaging the FBI's handling of the case.
ERIC HOLDER: "You don't know what the FBI did. You don't
know what the FBI's interaction was with the Russians. You don't know
what questions were put to the Russians, whether those questions were
responded to. You simply do not know that. And you have characterized
the FBI as being not thorough, or taken exception to my characterization
of them as being thorough. I know what the FBI did. You cannot know
what I know. That is all."

Gohmert took exception to the fact that his wild allegations would
not be taken seriously as facts, and called for a point of personal
privilege to defend his honor. Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) noted
Gohmert's time had expired but had Holder state again why he considered
what Gohmert had said was untrue, which he did, much to the
consternation of Gohmert.
A visibly flustered Gohmert then tried for another point of personal
privilege, but was rebuked as his time had expired. Gohmert then shouted
over the Chairman one of the best lines of the year:
LOUIE GOHMERT: "I cannot have a witness challenge my character! The attorney general will not cast aspersions on my asparagus!"

The British use this as a joking expression ("cast asparagus" on
something) but somehow I don't think Gohmert was joking at all. He
really is this dumb
