In 2009, the execise "Advanced Tactical Leadership Course" in United Arab Emirates, saw fights between the latest western aircrafts : F22 Raptor, Eurofighter Typhoon and Rafale.

One of these exercises was confrontating 4 rafales to 4 typhoons.
- 4 kills to 0 in the first match - 4 to 1 in the second.

When facing the F22 in "one on one", 6 duels saw 5 draws, and 1 victory for the Raptor.
A US Air Force officer stated that "the F22 were dogfighting with external tanks, reducing their maneuvering capabilities".

4 years later, this video of F22 vs Rafale, taken from the Rafale OSF, emerges on Youtube, thanks to "H." and http://portail-aviation.blogspot.fr/

TL;DR :
- 0' - 2'20 : explainations (in french)
- 2'20 - 4'50 : dogfight
- 4'50 - end : simulated canon kill

http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/408095/Asylum-seekers-sparked-terror-alert-on-flight

'Asylum seekers sparked terror alert on flight'

A TERROR alert which forced a packed passenger jet to land in the UK was sparked by desperate Syrians escaping the civil war in their homeland, police believe.

Senior officers investigating the drama which unfolded on Saturday are "utterly convinced" the note threatening to burn the plane in mid-flight was a ploy to have it diverted into a British airport.

The EgyptAir Boeing 777 was three hours into a flight from Cairo to New York's JFK airport when a passenger found the words "I set this plane on fi re" and a seat number scrawled in pencil on a paper napkin.

Flight 985, carrying 326 passengers and crew was 10 minutes from UK airspace when New York-based BBC producer Nada Tawfik discovered the warning as she changed her child's nappy in a toilet. The plane then made an unscheduled stop at Prestwick Airport in Ayrshire.

It is understood that the Syrians asked for asylum within minutes of being taken off the plane but all denied writing the threat or placing it in the toilet. They were handed over to the UK Border Agency.

Last night, one well-placed senior Police Scotland officer said: "The natural assumption among those involved in the investigation is that the note was written and left where it would clearly be seen in a quite calculated manner.

"There was a reason for that and it now looks like it was not some idiotic prank but a carefully - or perhaps, desperately - planned move to ensure that some of those on board could claim asylum at the first port of call."

He added: "The investigation will look very closely at the strong suggestion that those who subsequently sought to stay in the UK because of what's happening in Syria caused this entire event at Prestwick.

"It is an obvious line of inquiry and some of my colleagues, at a very senior level, are utterly convinced the motive for the threat was to force the plane to land in an asylum-friendly country."

Last night the asylum-seekers were being held at a secret location facing further questioning by UKBA and Police Scotland officers.

A police spokeswoman confirmed they had sought leave to stay in the UK and had been handed over to immigration officials.

EgyptAir CEO Tawfeek Asi identifi ed the passengers as Syrians but was unable to reveal any further details about them or the occupant of "seat 46D" which was written alongside the fi re threat.

After the alarm was raised, two Typhoon fi ghters were scrambled from RAF Leuchars in Fife to intercept the plane and escort it to Prestwick. The RAF pilots were in contact with the EgyptAir cockpit throughout the descent.

Passengers were surrounded by police, some armed, while sharpshooters covered the area from the airport terminal building.

It took six hours for all the 307 passengers, including four children, and 19 crew members to be processed before the plane resumed its journey early on Sunday after it was searched by police.

Glasgow Prestwick chief executive Iain Cochrane praised his staff and the emergency services for their handling of the incident.

The Home Office, responsible for managing the UKBA, was tightlipped about the asylum-seekers.

Diverted 'Fire Threat' Flight: Five Claim Asylum

Five passengers have claimed asylum after a plane was
forced to make an emergency landing in Scotland when crew were told of a
threat to destroy it.
The EgyptAir flight from Cairo to New York was diverted to Prestwick
Airport by British Typhoon fighter jets after an alarm was raised.
The threat was initially reported to be a bomb on board and the
disposal squad were called out, but it was later revealed to be a threat
to set the aircraft on fire.
It has since emerged that a letter containing the threat was found by a
BBC employee who said it looked like it had been written in "a child's
handwriting".

Police Scotland have now revealed that five out of the 300 passengers from the flight are seeking asylum in Britain.
Flight 985 landed in Scotland on Saturday after the note was found in the plane's lavatory.
The flight was met by a heavy police presence, but no arrests were made
and the flight was eventually cleared to carry on its journey to the
US.

A police spokesman said after the plane was cleared for take-off on
Saturday night: "Officers from Police Scotland have carried out an
extensive search of the aircraft resulting in no suspicious items being
found.
"Passengers and crew are now aboard and the aircraft is continuing its flight to New York.
"Officers continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident."

BBC employee Nada Tafik was on board the plane and said she found a note in a toilet apparently threatening to start a fire.
She told the BBC News Channel: "I'm actually the one who found the note in the rest room.
"When I went in to change my daughter about three hours into the
flight, I found a note by the sink saying 'I set this plane on fire'
with the seat number 46 D written on it.
"So I immediately went to the crew and told them about it.
"It was on a hand napkin written in pencil and the pencil was actually
still there so I told the crew to make sure to keep it so they can get
any fingerprints off of it. They locked the bathroom immediately so that
no one could go into it.
"It almost looked like a child's handwriting or someone who has very
sloppy handwriting, but it was very alarming, especially these days when
everyone is so concerned about safety on flights.
"I said to one of the stewardesses, 'I don't know if this is a prank', they said, 'No, it can't be a prank'.
"Either someone has a very bad sense of humour or, you know, it's very scary."

The Boeing 777, which had been on its way to John F Kennedy airport in
New York was escorted to Prestwick, in Ayrshire, by jets from RAF
Leuchars.
After it landed about 2.30pm yesterday, it took six hours before all
326 people on board were removed from the plane to be interviewed by
police.
Prestwick Airport is designated to deal with emergency incidents and it remained open while the EgyptAir plane sat on a runway.

It follows similar incidents in the last few weeks including one when a
Pakistan International Airlines flight was forced to make an emergency
landing at Stansted.

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft after RAF Typhoon jets were scrambled to escort a passenger plane travelling from Pakistan to the UK.

Police boarded Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight PK709, originally en route to Manchester, after it was diverted to Stansted Airport.

The men being held are aged 30 and 41, Essex Police said.

There has been no official confirmation of what happened on board.

However, PIA said all the passengers were safe.

The plane was scheduled to leave Lahore - the capital of the Pakistani province of Punjab - at 09:35 local time ( 05:35 BST) and had been due to arrive in Manchester at 13:30 BST.

BBC defence correspondent Jonathan Beale said there was a suggestion there had been threats on board during the flight, involving some sort of weapon or bomb - although this has not been confirmed.

Emergency signal
However, one passenger told the BBC that the pilot had informed them there had been threats.

The man said: "We were about half-an-hour away from landing in Manchester and we saw that the plane was taking different actions.

The BBC's Jonathan Beale: "Two men were arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft"
"We did not know anything about it other than the pilots announced that they have landed at Stansted. And we landed, safely. Then he announced that he had a threat from someone, which was why he had landed the plane."

Another passenger, Umari Nauman, told Sky News that cabin crew had said two men had repeatedly tried to get into the cockpit.

"The cabin crew informed us that basically they tried to come into the cockpit a few times and because they had been asked not to do that, they got into a bit of an argument with the crew and made a few threats."

Stansted said the pilot had alerted the authorities to the incident, but the airport did not say what that incident was.

Speaking about the passengers, an airport spokesman said: "They will be taken to a reception centre in the airport where police may wish to interview them about what they have seen. At some point police and the airline will arrange for their onward transportation to Manchester."

Stansted earlier said on Twitter that it was operating normally.

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: "A Pakistan International Airlines aircraft which was due to land at Manchester Airport at 13.30 BST today has been diverted to our sister airport London Stansted, where the authorities are investigating."

A supercell near Booker, Texas (Best Watch in Full Screen)

Video by Mike Olbinski and his account:

It took four years but I finally got it.

A rotating supercell. And not just a rotating supercell, but one with insane structure and amazing movement.

I've been visiting the Central Plains since 2010. Usually it's just for a day, or three, or two...but it took until the fourth attempt to actually find what I'd been looking for. And boy did we find it.

No, there was no tornado. But that's not really what I was after. I'm from Arizona. We don't get structure like this. Clouds that rotate and look like alien spacecraft hanging over the Earth.

We chased this storm from the wrong side (north) and it took us going through hail and torrential rains to burst through on the south side. And when we did...this monster cloud was hanging over Texas and rotating like something out of Close Encounters.

The timelapse was shot on a Canon 5D Mark II with a Rokinon 14mm 2.8 lens. It's broken up into four parts. The first section ends because it started pouring on us. We should have been further south when we started filming but you never know how long these things will last, so I started the timelapse as soon as I could.

One thing to note early on in the first part is the way the rain is coming down on the right and actually being sucked back into the rotation. Amazing.

A few miles south is where part two picks up. And I didn't realize how fast it was moving south, so part three is just me panning the camera to the left. During that third part you can see dust along the cornfield being pulled into the storm as well...part of the strong inflow.

The final part is when the storm had started dying out and we shot lightning as it passed over us.

Between the third and fourth portions we drove through Booker, Texas where tornado sirens were going off...it was creepy as all heck. And intense.

I hope you enjoy this. Once thing I've learned about timelapsing is that I always wish it would be longer or wouldn't end. I wish I had been south and been able to record this storm come at me for 45 minutes.

But I love it the way it is. I wasn't ever certain I'd see structure like this even though it's been such a goal of mine. But we did it.

And by we, I mean myself and my buddy Andy Hoeland, who knows his crap and got us into position so we could chase this storm. Without him along I don't know if I get this timelapse.

HMS Edinburgh, the last of the Royal Navy's Type 42 destroyers, officially bows out of service today, Thursday 6 June.

HMS Edinburgh's White Ensign will be lowered for the last time during her decommissioning ceremony at Portsmouth Naval Base, ending an era which began with the launch of HMS Sheffield in 1971.

The ageing Type 42s, which have served the Navy across the globe for 40 years, have gradually been phased out to make way for the Type 45s, which are among the most sophisticated and powerful warships in the world.

Among hundreds of guests at the decommissioning ceremony today will be Lady Heseltine, HMS Edinburgh's sponsor, and wife of former Defence Secretary Michael Heseltine, who launched the ship on 14 April 1983.

Seventeen of the ship's former commanding officers and dozens of Type 42 veterans will also attend.

Edinburgh's 270-strong ship's company will be on parade during the 50-minute ceremony and will be inspected by Lady Heseltine and senior naval officers.

RAF Typhoon and Hawk aircraft, together with a Sea Fury from the Royal Navy Historic Flight, will perform a flypast before the final lowering of the White Ensign.

HMS Edinburgh's Commanding Officer, Commander Nick Borbone, said:

'It will be a poignant day for all of us associated with HMS Edinburgh. It is also a day of celebration when we remember the 40 years of faithful service that 'The Fighting 42s' have given, manned by dedicated men and women, proud to serve in this world-renowned class of ship.'

Career highlights

Built by Cammell Laird at Birkenhead, Edinburgh was commissioned in December 1985; the 14th and final Type 42 to enter service.

Her first deployment was to the Gulf in 1987, escorting numerous merchant ships safely through the region.

The following year His Royal Highness The Duke of York joined as one of the ship's officers, serving on board during a 6-month round-the-world deployment.

In 1996, Edinburgh rescued the crew of a crippled sailing boat while on patrol in the Gulf. She despatched her Lynx helicopter to rescue all 9 Pakistani crewmen from the vessel after it took on water in stormy conditions and eventually sank.

She took part in the second Gulf War in 2003, supporting Royal Marines ashore and acting as escort to the helicopter carrier HMS Ocean.

The following year Edinburgh deployed to the Mediterranean and was involved in Operation Active Endeavour, monitoring sea lanes as part of the war on terror.

And in 2008, during operations in the Gulf, she seized a drugs cargo - stashed on board a sailing boat - worth several million pounds.

Edinburgh entered refit in 2010 and spent most of the following year in the South Atlantic. She returned from her final deployment - conducting security patrols across the South and North Atlantic - in March.

The end of an era

Type 42 air defence destroyers have been the backbone of the Royal Navy's fleet since the first - HMS Sheffield - was commissioned in 1975.

They have served on operations across the globe, including the Falklands conflict of 1982 and the Gulf War in 1991. As recently as 2011, HMS Liverpool was ordered to Libya as part of the Navy's contribution to NATO's naval blockade of the country during its civil war.

Liverpool supported the no-fly zone by controlling NATO aircraft from the sea, enforced the embargo on arms sales to the Gaddafi regime, and fired 111 high-explosive rounds against targets ashore.
        Type 45 takes the baton

The Type 42s have been replaced by the Type 45 destroyers; the most advanced warships the nation has ever built. Several of the new class of ship have already deployed operationally to the Middle East and across the Atlantic.

Their mission is to shield the fleet from air attack using the Sea Viper missile which can knock targets out of the sky up to 70 miles away if necessary.

The Type 45s can also be used as general-purpose warships; they have huge flight decks to accommodate helicopters up to the size of a Chinook. There's also enough space on board to host a Royal Marines detachment up to 60-men strong.

As for the ship's company, they enjoy 'creature comforts' only dreamed of by their forebears; no sailor lives in a mess square for more than 6 people and there are no communal heads (toilets) or showers.

All Type 45s are based in Portsmouth and will serve until around 2040.

Police have arrested two men on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft today after the plane was diverted to Stansted Airport.

Officers boarded Pakistan International Airlines flight PK709, which is believed to have been carrying 297 passengers bound for Manchester, after it landed at Stansted and removed the men, aged 30 and 41, from the plane.

According to one of the passengers, the aircraft's cabin crew said two men had repeatedly tried to get into the cockpit.

Umari Nauman told Sky News: 'The cabin crew informed us that basically they tried to come into the cockpit a few times and because they had been asked not to do that they got into a bit of an argument with the crew and made a few threats.'

A police spokesman said: 'Essex Police have boarded a passenger plane diverted to Stansted Airport and two men have been arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft. They have been removed from the plane.'

The RAF jet was scrambled following an incident around 10 minutes before the plane, which departed from Lahore, was due to land in Manchester at 2pm.

RAF fighter jets have escorted a Pakistan International Airlines aircraft from Manchester Airport to Stansted Airport, a Ministry of Defence spokesman has said.

A witness speaking in Urdu to Pakistani station Geo TV, said that two men over 6 feet tall tried to enter the pilot's cabin.

Essex Police have confirmed that two men have been arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft after the plane landed safely at Stansted.

There are understood to have been 297 passengers on board flight PK709, who were travelling from Lahore.

The aircraft was heading west towards Manchester when it was suddenly re-routed near York and headed back out to the North Sea, before travelling south to Stansted.

An Essex Police spokeswoman said: "An incident has occurred on an aircraft. Police and partners are responding."

Mashood Takwar, from Pakistan International Airlines, told Sky News that 25 minutes before landing Manchester air traffic control contacted the pilot after apparently receiving some information from British security services.

An MoD spokesman earlier confirmed that Typhoon jets had been scrambled from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

The aircraft is understood to be being held in an isolated stand at Stansted, but the airport is operating as normal.

Sky correspondent Alistair Bunkall said: "It is potentially precautionary, it doesn't necessarily mean there is a direct or real threat. Sometimes this might happen simply because of an incident on board involving a single passenger.

"It would be wrong at the moment to draw any conclusions but an incident nonetheless that the military feel is necessary to carry out this operation to make sure that plane lands safely at Stansted Airport."

UK defence services on tender hooks fearing more terrorist activity?

24 May 2013 Last updated at 14:46 BST.

RAF Typhoon jets have been launched to investigate an incident involving a civilian aircraft within UK airspace, the Ministry of Defence has said.

A Pakistan International Airlines plane has been diverted from Manchester to Stansted Airport, a Manchester Airport spokesman said.

An Essex Police spokeswoman added: "An incident has occurred on an aircraft. Police and partners are responding."

The BBC understands that the plane has now landed in Stansted.

BBC defence correspondent Jonathan Beale said that police were expected to meet the plane at the airport.

The plane, flight number PK709, reportedly left Lahore at 09:35 local time. It was due in at Manchester at 14:00 BST.

The MoD said responsibility for the incident had now passed to Essex Police and the Home Office. The MoD was not able to say how serious a threat there was on board.

Philip Baum, of Aviation Security International, told the BBC: "This is certainly a significant incident, however the fact that fighter jets were scrambled to intercept is not unusual.

"We don't know what the incident was: fighter jets are scrambled when there is a bomb threat, when there is a hijack, when the wrong transponder code is used or if an aircraft cannot communicate with the ground. Often the result is when there is an unruly passenger on board.

"What is interesting in this case is that it would appear that the aircraft was only 10 minutes from landing - these are initial reports coming in - when they decided to divert to Stansted. So to actually change a destination 10 minutes from landing would certainly imply that there was some serious incident taking place."
