One of the most classic lines from a creationist EVER!

Quoted comment by geopolitik: why are some atheists obsessed with religion/god?

I'm not obsessed with it. I'm just extremely offended by irrational people. I have no problem with people having faith in private. But if somebody posts something saying:

    1. Atheism is a religion
    2. I'm going to burn in hell because I don't believe
    3. Western civilization or America is based on religious values
    4. Morality is based on religion

    then i get upset.

My beef is mostly with people who are so religious that they try to interfere with the progress of science and education. I have no problem with people who have a private relationship with God. In my opinion that's how God would want it if he did exist.

So you want it your way or no way I am getting from this..
You want to take all religious factors out of America and forgetting that America was borne by religious men with godly convictions and morals...

You want to take God out of the whole USA and replace it with the god of evolution and all its teachings of non-creation.

Progress of science what a laugh. Every time "scientist" comes up with an explanation for an event ten years later they have to say that they calculated and back pedal on their previous statements.

Science is irrelevant. We are the Borg. Resistance is futile. Your culture will adapt to service ours. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.

I'm down as long as you implant one of those cool laser pointers in my skull.

And about the progress of science I think this can sum up how I feel.

"In my humble opinion, I think this is dangerous. If one looks at all of our journals from 50, 30, or even 10 years ago, much of the research results (and sometimes the methods used to arrive at them) are now considered wrong. It used to be wrong (and fatal) to treat heart failure with beta-blockers, and now it's considered wrong (and perhaps fatal) not to. The list goes on and on. To retract an article because it is found to be wrong sends the wrong message. Science is a dialogue. Experiments and observations are never perfect, and knowledge evolves. This attitude by the editors of Cell, especially given their interaction with the authors as described below, is just plain wrong and could very well result in squelching the very scientific discourse that their journal purports to facilitate.

Wrong methods and results, just like failed experiments, can greatly benefit science by allowing the spotlight to shine on the correct methods and results. This action by the editors of Cell makes the reader believe that there was some misconduct (and perhaps there is more to this story than we know from the text below), that the authors deliberately misspoke in their article. If there was proven misconduct, then the article should be retracted and the author(s) sanctioned. If the editors and reviewers made an honest mistake, then the editors of Cell should point it out in an editorial in Cell, discuss why the editors and reviewers believe it was an error, and let the authors respond. I thought that this was the type of discourse that journals%u2014especially the "letters to the editor" section%u2014are for.

I hope none of the other editors on this WAME listserver emulates this inappropriate behavior by the editors of Cell."

    William M. Tierney
Co-Editor-in-Chief, Journal of General Internal Medicine

This is why I am not religious. Religion refuses to evolve. People make mistakes. That's part of being human. Religion was created by man yet claims to be perfect...

I'd rather believe in science. At least it is open to correction and seeks to improve itself.

No, I believe the 1st amendment is the most important part of the constitution. I strongly believe in the freedom of, and from, religion. I try not to ridicule people for believing in God. I just ridicule them for rejecting science because of a belief in God.

The real question is why do they Preach more than those that are religious.
The funny thing is when you ignore them they resort to name calling.
You must believe as they do, LOL. Listen to one and you will see that it to is based on Faith also because Evolution can not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. My proof follows......

    What's up with the block?

Where is your comment on my proof of evolution? You challenged me to post it, I posted it twice. You not only failed to respond you blocked me...

Why am I blocked? When did I resort to name calling?

You may notice that you are not blocked on my page. I have only blocked a handful of trolls who harassed me. I never block people who wish to debate.

Blocking is for those who are incapable of open debate.

I have no problem being religous, but I do not put that in my avatar. And like you I apreciate atheists that keep their lack of relationship with to themselves...You to Enti. No disrespect intended, but avatats souch as this are aking for attention just like, if not more so, those that have their faith reflected in theis.

Also, our founding documents credit our rights to be granted by "Natures God", and gaurantee from infringement by our government. even yours.

The founding documents were also written before Darwin, before the structure of the atom was understood, before anybody had the slightest clue what DNA was, before we even knew of all the planets in our solar system, let alone had the idea of an expanding universe etc.

There wasn't really a valid hypothesis that could stand up to the idea of God back then.

I appreciate the rights outlined in the document, but the mention of God as a source of these rights has no foundation, nor does it makes these rights any more valid.

I'm not afraid of "asking for it". I'll debate any theist any day. I base my world view on facts alone. I'm proud of it. If somebody has a problem with my non-belief in magic then bring it on.

No problem with it, just pointing out a little hypochracy in your position. I have freinds that are atheists, and they are very moral people. I don't have God in my avatar because I don't feel the need to advertise my position, as you say it is a personal thing. Also, debating religion online with a stranger is kind of like trying to explain the beauty of a sunset at the beach blind cave people that speak a different language....it just loses something in the translation.....

Well I'm actually advertising my faith in the flying spaghetti monster, not atheism. I believe in the one true God. The holy trinity of noodles, marinara, and meat balls is self evident. Well, actually there isn't really any evidence for him, but since when did that matter? All the other religions don't need evidence. so why do I? After all, isn't that what faith is all about? The delusional belief in a something we all know is totally impossible... I mean it's not like my religion believes in the story of Noah's Ark...

I feel it is my first amendment right to fabricate, cherry pick, and embellish supporting evidence for my deity just like other religious people do. Now quit persecuting me for my ridiculous, unfounded beliefs. I have a first amendment right to believe in childish stories.

    RAmen

But seriously, don't look too deeply into my avatar.
