    Hey I couldn't dig this back up in the thread, must be buried in an avalanche of comments. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your worldly perspective, I simply don't have it. My Dad and uncles fought in WWII and hated the Nazis but none mentioned that they fought for Jewish liberation, only to stop Fascism. After the war was over, they all got to simply leave Europe behind and come home. I guess that is where the cultural divide starts for me.

    Here in America we tolerate radical free speech. Nazis (a fringe group with little to no influence) march on our streets. The Westboro Baptists scream their bilge at the funerals of our fallen soldiers, etc... This is part of our culture and one of the things I still love about my country. It is so very difficult for me to imagine another culture not celebrating this freedom by making speech sacred.

    Although our freedom of speech is under attack, I.E. Executive wiretapping, Patriot act, Fairness doctrine, yada yada. I simply think the canary in the mineshaft of freedom will be dead when dirtbags like David Duke are prosecuted in this country for their words rather than their actions.

    I think the problem is dj is that many people who now pour derision on this type of legislation do not come from Nations that were themselves under Nazi occupation. It happens here in the UK as well. We were bombed, our fighting men died on land, sea and in the air but we were never invaded or occupied. We were never subjected to the arbitrary executions and arrests. We did not watch our neighbours being deported whilst being completely impotent in any effort to stop the 'resettlement' of the clergy, Jews, Gypsies and intellectuals.

    Too many people simply spout off the old mantra of 'we saved your ass' without thinking about the scars left by the Fascists in Italy, Span and Germany only 2-3 generations ago.

    I was there in september 2007 mate. Amazing place and great people despite their poverty. Probably the worst food I have ever had in any country however, apart from my meal in La Guarida. :)
