Regarding your recent post about the surge in Iraq and Afghanistan:
Afghanistan is a totally different war.
Iraqis fight for their country, the afhan guerillas fight solely for religion. This is the one factor that changes everything. The taliban would rather you kill every single last one of the pashtun fighters than to raise the white flag and surrender. It is literally hopeless, we might as well pull out right now and save trillions of dollars.
Also, all of the insurgents from Iraq (Chechens, northern Africans, persians, Europeans, Bosnians, Saudis, Egyptians, etc) have all packed up and set up shop in AFG, which makes Afghanistan a pain in the ass to fight a war in.
