"Inverted totalitarianism, unlike classical totalitarianism, does not revolve around a demagogue or charismatic leader. It finds expression in the anonymity of the Corporate State. It purports to cherish democracy, patriotism, and the Constitution while manipulating internal levers."

Chris Hedges (Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle)

  • Quoted comment by FRUITUS_CUPCAKE: Military occupation. Propping up a corrupt President. Helicopter war. Bad terrain. (mountains as opposed to triple canopy jungle) Enemy in sandals with RPGs, AKs, and no air support. Strategic hamlets (villages). Hearts and minds campaign. Special forces in remote areas dealing with tribes. The ANA bear a lot of resemblance to the ARVN in the way they relate and operate. Opium fields. Pot fields.
The big difference is embedded reporters.

Fact of the matter is, if this IS "won", westerners (mainly Americans) will never be able to walk down a street in this country without an armed guard. You won't be able to take so much as a piss without some
contracting firm or the military watching out for you.

I think it's going to be an interesting summer - especially if the PIGS implode.

    Portugal
    Ireland
    Greece
    Spain
