A Metairie man accused of sexually molesting a 7-year-old girl says the child came on to him, Kenner police said.
Daniel Paz, 26, of 177 Maryland Ave. was booked Tuesday with three counts of sexual battery and three counts of molestation of a juvenile, said Sgt. Bryan McGregor, Police Department spokesman.
Detective Joseph McRae began the investigation after receiving a tip about Paz and the girl through the Crimestoppers Inc. hotline in September. Paz was an acquaintance of the girl's mother and occasionally babysat the child and her siblings, said Lt. Wayne McInnis, another Police Department spokesman.
The girl was taken to the Jefferson Children's Advocacy Center and Children's Hospital. She disclosed multiple encounters with Paz, McGregor said.
During questioning, Paz admitted to three separate incidents of molestation, including touching the girl inside of her pants and penetrating her with a finger. But Paz told the detective that the girl was the aggressor, McGregor said.
Paz was still being held Wednesday at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna. No bond has been set.
