Iran has said it will be the first country in the Muslim world to have a nuclear power plant once the Bushehr facility is running.
"The Bushehr power plant should have become operational a long time ago. The project was delayed because of technical and financial problems from the Russian side," the Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Gholam-Reza Ansari said.
According to the envoy, once it is comes on-stream, the plant will create new conditions in Iran and the region.
"The shipment of nuclear fuel from Russia to Iran and the completion of the plant are being accomplished in accordance with the contract between Moscow and Tehran. The implementation of the project is sure to improve Russia's stance and reputation as a rising global power," the official added.
"The project is in full compliance with international law and has been under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for 11 years," he noted.
Ansari said the recent US National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) report confirms the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear activities and an earlier IAEA report on Iran's full cooperation with the agency provided Russia with the best opportunity to fulfill its contractual obligations.
