LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A Louisville man accused of beating his girlfriend's 4-year-old son is now charged with murder.
Johnny Juliot pleaded "not guilty" during a court appearance Monday.
Juliot is also charged with criminal abuse and tampering with physical evidence.
Juliot is being held at Metro Corrections on a $500,000 cash bond. The victim's mother said she was doing errands when Juliot is accused of abused her son.
"The last thing my son told me was that he loved me and said he'd see me when I got home," said Tara Hack.
When Hack returned to her Louisville home last week, her son, James Anthony "Tony" Hack, was having a seizure. Her boyfriend, Juliot, was supposed to be taking care of the boy while she was gone about two hours.
"Johnny come running around the corner with my baby limp in his arms, saying, 'Come on, hurry, let's go to the hospital; the baby has blood coming out of his mouth,'" she said.
The couple took Tony Hack to St. Mary's Hospital. He was later rushed to Kosair Children's Hospital.
While at the hospital, Juliot left.
Doctors told Hack her son had been abused, calling it the worst case of child abuse they've ever seen.
"I lost it," Hack said. "I never in my mind thought my son was beat."
Police said Tony Hack suffered skull fractures and bruising throughout his body and that he died as a result of injuries from being beaten by Juliot.
Hack said she recently met Juliot through a friend. She admits Juliot was abusive toward her but never thought he would hurt her child.
"He never showed signs of being mean at all to my child to my face, never. He was so good to my kids in front of my face and behind my back he did this," she said.
Hack also said she was not aware of Juliot's criminal history, which includes various domestic violence charges.
"When the detective told me everything, I was shocked. I didn't know of all the past history. Like I said, I didn't know him very long," she said.
Since her son's death, Hack has been wearing a blanket that still has the boy's scent on it.
"He followed me everywhere. He was my sidekick," she said. "Always told me how much he loved me."
