In England we build our houses out of stone, brick, cement ect. not twigs. Little tip for you there ;-)

@Weazy F4 tornado wind speed 207–260 mph (333–418km/h Devastating damage. Well-constructed houses leveled; structures with weak foundations blown away some distance; trains overturned; cars thrown and large missiles generated.

See? They didn't pray or beseige their favorite imaginary deity to break the laws of nature and they still made it through alright.
Good for them. Hope everyone fared well, all things considered.

If it was me you would hear lots of wind, and I don't mean outside.

I saw the aftermath of an F5 tornado in Plainfield IL many years ago. It literally scoured the land and everything on it. F5 is terrible. Hell, even making it through a direct hit by ANY tornado I'm sure will change you.
Voted.

@porcubunny Yeah, I lived not too far from there, in Tinley Park. I remember driving thru there & Lockport and seeing the trees that were still standing stripped of every leaf and their bark. Scary stuff. All you can do is seek cover and hope for the best.

What a sheer fucking display of power.
Still... I noticed the big brick building standing tall and firm....
So a new debate about brick/wood???

@Mikker
We had a cat 2 in England that went through a town of brick built houses, it sucked out whole walls sending bricks in all directions, only concrete structures with steel shutters could survive the power in this one.

@Mikker I agree. I think houses should most definitely be made of brick in the mid west. More expensive short term but cheaper long term. Houses in Europe are built rock solid. It's a shame North America hasn't caught on yet. Everything has to be as cheap as possible here.

@Mikker Maybe but strong winds do weird shit sometimes. I have seen vids of wood houses completly destroyed while the house next door (also wood)suffers almost no damage at all.
Once while driving down a neighborhood that recently got tornado-fucked I saw a house sitting as pretty as a picture until I noticed the whole back of it was gone. Some of the furniture looked as if it had barley been moved.
