KABUL, August 15 (Xinhua) -- Two foreign soldiers were killed in restive eastern Afghanistan on Wednesday, the coalition confirmed in two separate statements.

"A U.S. Forces-Afghanistan service member died following an improvised explosive device (IED) attack in eastern Afghanistan today,"the U.S. forces said in the statement.

Earlier Wednesday, another soldier with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) was killed in an insurgent attack also in eastern Afghanistan, the ISAF said in a statement, without giving more details.

Violence has been on the rise since Taliban launched an annual spring offensive on May 3.

A total of 289 foreign soldiers with majority of them Americans have been killed in Afghanistan so far in 2012.
