I'm all for resistance of a brutal and totalitarian regime like Assad's, but no matter what side you're on, even the most uncivilized cultures can treat their prisoners with respect and dignity. You get little from torture as it rarely yields the information desired and only leads to (if they survive) a lifetime of pain and anguish. War is war, but at least Western powers and some scattered around the world follow the Geneva Convention.
