NORTH MIAMI, Fla. -- A man has been arrested on animal cruelty charges after police said he punched a puppy.
David Henry Lucero, 26, faces a felony charge of cruelty to animals with intent to kill in the Sept. 5 incident.
According to the arrest form, Lucero punched the 3-month-old puppy in the head. The form said Lucero caused the puppy "to suffer excessive and unnecessary pain."
A witness told police that Lucero had said earlier, "The punk dog will be dead soon," while choking the animal with both hands. The arrest report said the witness had to pry Lucero off the dog.
Lucero appeared in bond court Wednesday. His bond was set at $5,500.
