As of 10:25 a.m., the eastbound Platt Bridge was finally open to traffic, but only one westbound lane was creeping past the site of an earlier fiery accident.
The closure began before 9 a.m. and involved two burning vehicles: a tow truck and a van.
The reopening of the bridge was delayed when one of the vehicles caught fire again as it was being removed.
Video just before 9 a..m. showed firefighters battling wild flames engulfing a tow truck. Minutes later, the flames were successfully extinguished, leaving the truck and a van behind it spattered with white flame-suppressing foam.
"That tow truck is going to need a tow truck itself," quipped a traffic reporter.
Then flames erupted around one of the van's back tires.
