Why America can't have nice things anymore:

ST. LOUIS, 5/17/12 -- Two teens were allegedly attacked by other juveniles Saturday night at a carnival in the St. Clair Square parking lot that had to be closed due to several disturbances, according to Fairview Heights Police.

In the first case, a 15-year-old girl said she was standing near a carnival ride at 9:10 p.m. when she was attacked by two 17-year-old females. The suspects punched and kicked the victim before fleeing with her phone and money, she told police.

In the second case, a 15-year-old boy said he and a group of friends were approached by a group of 20 juveniles as they walked across the Barnes & Noble parking lot after leaving the carnival.

The second group asked the first group whether they knew someone. After the first group answered, the boy told police he was attacked from behind by one of the juveniles. The boy fell and was kicked and stomped by others, sustaining a broken jaw in the attack, according to police.

Investigators were attempting to identify the suspects in the latter case.

Two off-duty Fairview Heights police provided security at the carnival, but several other Fairview Heights and O'Fallon officers had to be called due to a large crowd of juveniles becoming unruly, police said. The carnival's owner shut down the event about 10 p.m. for safety reasons.

More disturbances were reported as the juveniles left the mall's property.

St. Clair Square's management is cooperating with police with their investigation and at this point has no further carnivals scheduled at the mall, Regional Marketing Director Sean Phillips said.
