It's Saturday that means the Retro TV episode of the day is a cartoon.

Generation 1 Transformers originally ran from 1984 to 1987, four seasons, 98 episodes. Some may argue that there is a fifth season. But that fifth season was made up from "best of" episodes already aired in previous seasons, with a few episodes made from the movie. So IMO just repeats. The last original episode aired in the US in 1987. There were spinoffs shows based on the Transformers franchise in Japan up until the 90's too.

I couldn't decide which intro to use. They're short so here are the first four seasons.

Networks pushed hard to have restrictions on merchandising in kids shows lifted. One of the first results of their success to do so was Transformers. GI Joe and the focus of many others kids shows changed significantly in the late 80's as a result too. You can kind of tell. There were actually quite a few kids shows that were created which were little more than half hour commercials for lines of toys. A practice which is still prevalent today.

There are a few kid stars in the Toys R Us commercial. Can anyone name one?
